I always forget about this place and FINALLY went with my dad last Friday. To start the bartender was lovely. Her cosmo was excellent and dad loved his Manhattan. We started with the waygu carpaccio. The meat was absolutely delicious. I do think it would have been better on a crostini. The crunchy thing it came on tasted like a rice cake and had the same texture. I got the lobster risotto. I don't care much about lobster, I think it's overrated but I LOVE risotto. This dish was beyond reproach!! The flavors are so incredibly deep and rich. Reminded me a bit of étouffée which I also love. Dad had a bite and also thought it was outstanding. Dad got the bolognese which he enjoyed. I really wish I had room for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch crème brûlée. Our server was just as delightful as the bartender and had a very nice smile. Oliver's is without a doubt the best restaurant in Buffalo; and I have tried just about all of them all. Ask anyone in the know, and they will tell you the same without hesitation. On top of the consistently stellar service, the chef is always eager to try new things and take you along with him while he experiments and perfects his craft. At the same time, they have plenty of staples, many of which are unique to the restaurant. Get the Decadence of Egg (an Oliver's classic) and the octopus (my personal favorite); and be brave and try the specials, they never disappoint. The oysters are always great and from the right areas, as it should be, and the the lobster risotto is fantastic. This is more of a personal preference, but skip the wagyu and go for the filet or (even better) the duck, which is undoubtedly the tastiest duck you will have in Buffalo. Do not be scared away by the valet. The staff will welcome you with open arms and treat you like family. My date had to leave for an hour-long work call once after we arrived, and the staff treated me as a friend and kept me occupied while I waited. Pro tip: We like to arrive a little before our reservation and have a drink (or two) at the bar before. read more

It's been quite awhile since I'd been here and my wife had never been so I decide to surprise her and take her here for her recent birthday! The service, from the valet, coat check, server and bus person were excellent and very welcoming! We started with cocktails while we looked over the menu! I ordered the Cesar salad and she had the oysters. Both were excellent! We had to try the spinach loaf and we're happy we did! We ordered the half loaf and it was huge! I won't do Oliver's justice with my review but I'll try. I took my dad here on his first time back to Buffalo in 10 years along with my boyfriend, who despite being a lifelong Buffalonian had never been - they were both fully impressed. I regret but taking more photos but we were so excited to eat everything. First, staff was on point, extremely hospitable and knowledgeable. We ordered oysters, a tomato gelatin out of curiosity and octopus - we enjoyed them all. Then my boyfriend and I split the Caesar salad (they'll happily plate this for you separately). It was insanely delicious - my boyfriend said he'd happy t have that as appetizer, entree and dessert. The freshest anchovies, thinnest parmesan flakes and these insanely light and fluffy potato croutons. We got Bolognese and two dishes of agnoletti for entrees and the agnoletti was a smaller portion but I was fine with that as we'd gotten so many small plates already. We were stuffed by dessert but had to order as the food had been so epic. The desserts we're surprisingly large portions and I probably should've taken mine to go but it was delish. Olivers was a nice change of pace from somewhere like Russell's in buffalo. I had over of their weekly specials, the Elk with a mashed potato and brussel sprouts. My appetizer was a cabbage rolls, which was so good! Be Everything was well prepared and staff was excellent. They're drinks were great and I had a great time. Dessert was so good, I wish I had that cake another time because I was filled up. I also had a piece of steak and a spoonful of the lobster risotto w/scallops, and I was not disappointed. We went to Oliver's around Easter time this year and they had this fantastic special of pierogi and short rib. I would consider that the star of the show! Oliver's restaurant is a favorite of ours. I wanted to do something special for my wife's birthday and decided on taking 4 other couples to dinner with us. I contacted Oliver's. They provided us with their chef's table. This table is in a small room off the kitchen that comfortably seats 10. Planning for our gathering was made easy by the staff at Oliver's. Their pastry chef made a wonderful birthday cake. I was able to have appetizers ready for my guests when we arrived. Our server managed to keep the needs and requests of the 10 of us constantly addressed. The evening was flawless. Our server somehow managed to to have all 10 entrees on the table within a minute or two of the first being served. Each of the 10 entrees was perfect and served as ordered. It had been quite a while since my last dining experience at this restaurant. After this evening, I was left wondering why I waited so long to return. The service from the entire staff was incredible. The staff strived to make this dining experience very personal despite the crowd. A key contributor to this evening was the sommelier, Anthony. He took the entire experience to the next level with his wine knowledge, culinary suggestions and general demeanor. We started with the pear tarts which were very nice. I'm quite a fan of blue cheese, the sweetness of the pears was a nice complement. Next, we had the gazpacho which pretty much "ruined" the rest of the dinner. This was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The blend of cool temperature and the heat of the curry was made mellowed with the flavor of the crab. This is to die for. Next, the Oliver's salad. It was very nice and well portioned. (Split for two) Finally, the duck entrée was a huge knock out. The meat was cooked to perfection and the flavors were perfectly blended. The scallops were on top a delightful bed of creamy couscous that was balanced with corn, watercress and pickled onion. No dessert, unless you are the type that believes a good glass of port wine counts. The restaurant port selection is not lacking and bolsters the already extensive wine list. Leaving our port wine selection in the hands of Anthony was an excellent choice. I highly recommend this restaurant for its atmosphere, service, people, food and wine. read more

We went to Oliver's for my husband's birthday dinner. We were greeted and immediately seated in a very nice circular booth. Our server was very professional, friendly and attentive. We ordered a great bottle of wine Orin Swift Palermo very smooth tasting one of our favorites. We started with the decadence of egg, which was delicious. Next we shared a salad, shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque all were delicious. When we share our soup and salads they always take the time to divide into two separate portions. For our main course I had the sea bass that was fresh and delicious! My husband had the spring pea Agnolotti pasta this was delicious as well. For dessert we shared a chocolate pots de creme. Been coming here almost annually for over five years. Service was always exceptional especially with the waiter Charlie. He will be missed for his knowledge of the menu including the farm sources, as well as the wine list which is superior to many in the area. The chef changes the menu regularly and but this evening we had their succulent Duck Breast and a delicious sous vide and grill finished Wagyu short rib. Daughter loved the shell pasta and bolognese sauce. Dessert was their chocolate taco and it was a textural treat with French pressed coffee. On Sundays their half price wine bottle selection cannot be beat. Had the Huet Vouvray which was too good to miss even with the red meat off-pairing. Highly recommended. I had not been to Oliver's since before COVID. I was pleased to find they had not changed. Service, ambiance, food...it was all spot on!

My first experience here was absolutely phenomenal. Can't say enough about the service and the excellent food. Celebrated some life milestones with a friend here on a very very snowy evening, and as we pulled up front we were pleasantly surprised with the valet service. I was wearing heels, and was so happy to avoid the ice and snow. Once we entered, there was also a coat check, and very fast seating with our reservation. We mentioned it was our first visit, and the manager brought us some really nice champagne on the house. Off to a fabulous start. I ordered a tommy collins from the bar, and we started with an onion toast appetizer which was absolutely brilliant. The fresh made butter was great on the rolls, and our courses arrived quite fast. I had the largest steak, a 16oz CAB ribeye, with a demi glace. Even the demi glace was perfect with layered flavors. My friend ordered the chilean sea bass, and it was cooked absolutely perfect. The crisp on the sear was great, and the risotto was a nice addition. For dessert, we had a creme brulee along with some coffee. This place is not cheap HOWEVER I do not mind paying for the service and absolute quality dishes. I can not wait to return here. read more

I've now gone here for dinner and been back a few times so I'm going to update my review. I'm a fan of Oliver's. They do food really well; it's definitely very pricey though and you have to be prepared to splurge if you're going to come here. Alternatively, you can feast on some small plates and they have some of the best charcuterie in the whole wide world. I've also had their beets, king crab and chicken liver small plates. Very delicious. My wife and I came here to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We started with some appetizers and each ordered a main dish. The King Crab had bits of king crab, guacamole, tomato, cilantro and was plated in a very delicious and beautiful way. The waiter even split it between my wife and I on two plates so they could retain the presentation which was nice. The chicken livers were my favorite. Grilled liver with bits of onion, local tomatoes, First Light Creamery cheese; all presented in a gorgeous way. For my dinner, I had the Bolognese ($24), while my wife enjoyed the scallops and grilled fish ($38). The Bolognese was fantastic. Very firm and perfectly cooked. The tomato and meat sauce accompanying it was delightful and savory. For dessert, we shared the Strawberry Galette. An ice cream cake with a shortcake underneath it and some delicious preserves. Bravo! I hope I can find an occasion to dine here again real soon, but it's truly something I feel like I have to save up for if I'm going to consider ordering some of the larger plates. However, if you go with just the small plates -- you can get a really nice and fancy meal and share it between a few people! Valet parking is always an added plus, because after drinking a few glasses of delicious champagne, the less I have to walk in heels, is the less chance I have to topple over! My date ordered the U.S.D.A Prime N Y Strip Steak served with fingerling potatoes, caramelized cauliflower, crispy pancetta & Smoked paprika aioli for $46. Both were cooked to perfection! The lobster tail was like a dream come true, that i never wanted it to end, and the shrimp were perfect texture and temperature. I savored every orgasmic bite.....and yes, a mouthgasm is something that rarely happens to your taste buds in Buffalo!!! . The steak was perfectly made,fingerlings potatoes were OK, the caramelized cauliflower was to die for, and the Smoked paprika aioli mmmmmhhhhmmmm!!! I was too full for dessert.....I didn't want to chance of having to be rolled out of there like the blueberry from the Willy Wonka Candy Factory, soooo one more glass of delicious champagne didn't hurt to add to my current heaven status/food coma I was already in, lol ***My only small request would be to bring back Vueve Cliquot Champagne, there is a gy-nourmous empty bottle in the middle dinner area, and I really wanted to take it home, since they don't serve my favorite champagne there anymore. We are back, for a curb side pick up. Everything we ordered was delicious. We had the braised meatballs, crab cakes,and spinach loaf bread! All were good. We both had the seafood bouillabaisse for dinner. The flavor of each part was great, large serving. We got the flourless chocolate cake and I had the tiramisu, great way to finish this style of dinner. You handled the curb side to my trunk with no contact. Thanks. Oliver's knew it was our anniversary ( we were there last year) we recieved a anniversary card and bouquet of flowers from the wonderful people at Oliver's. I had dinner here last Saturday and forgot to post review so here it is... First off, I love this place! It's in my top 3 here in Buffalo. The service is always impeccable, the drinks are masterfully crafter and the food is just amazing. It all shows simply by the bread they serve- a garlic, Parmesans, stuffed with spinach ciabatta. It's amazing! On this night I had ordered several bottles of wine as we had a nine person party. We started with the steak tartar and oysters. Only wish we ordered more. For dinner, I had the feature for the night, ox tail Bolognese. It was nice that I had option of a small portion vs large, this gave me the chance to include a large chaser salad, with delicious anchovies- perfect. Overall, my party had a wonderful time and cannot wait to go back. read more

"Date night" calls for a special place... and so I was more than happy when my fiancé suggested we have dinner here. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table-for-two. Our waiter was as friendly and helpful as could be. We were given crispy breadsticks of sorts as we perused the menu. We decided to start with cocktails and a cheese board. My sparkling rose' brut was lovely.... and the four cheeses were interesting and delicious. I wish I could remember the names of them, but sadly I can only remember that one was a type of bleu, one a type of brei, one an edam of sorts, and the last a fabulous melding and goats' milk and sheeps' milk separated by olive ash. The cheese board also contained bread crisps, toasted pistachios, mixed berry jam, and local honey. Yum! For my entree I chose the Chicken Milanese (marinated tomato, cucumber, red onion, baby arugula, and reggiano cheese with a balsamic reduction). Sadly there were no tomatoes. When I pointed that out to the waiter he brought me a plate with grape tomatoes cut in half. Weird! The dish was tasty, but the chicken could have been crisper and hotter. My fiancé's Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and veggies was perfect in every way. But mine paired more perfectly with the white Bordeaux we chose. The desserts sounded so good that we just had to have two of them. Honey Cake (with brûléed banana, toasted meringue, whipped cream, and banana ice cream) for him.... and Chocolate Olive Oil Cake (with fresh berries, toasted coconut, and blood orange sorbet) for me. Both desserts were and artistic masterpiece to look at, and even tastier to eat. And, the waiter brought us little glasses of late harvest dessert wine as a special treat. After tip our bill was almost $400 but we ordered a lot of food to try for a birthday celebration. There was 3 of us. Two of us had 2 drinks each. All of the food was beyond just delicious but there were some unique stand outs that you want when you know the bill is going to up there. For appetizers we got the octopus (oh, that sauce) and the Decadence of egg (what????) (trust me, go and get it). The spinach bread I would stop in and pick up to take home anytime I'm passing by if they let me. Filet mignon, lobster risotto and duck were all perfectly cooked. One of our desserts was the Robins egg nest which looked just like a blue robins egg in a nest but was made with white chocolate with wonderful insides. We have 2 birthdays the first week of August and always try pick a high end restaurant to try out. Oliver's is top of the list hands down. Second was La Palette in Toronto (minus the ambiance). The lamb was so good, I wanted another. We also got chocolate cake, and their signature spinach bread. The cake was good, and the bread was okay. I've always experienced the wait staff to be attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and chalk full of good recommendations. The bartenders can be a little gruff like in a '50's bar scene in a movie sort of way. When it comes to the food....where do I begin? Everything I've had has been excellent. Lamb Chops? Melt in your mouth tender. Mushroom Risotto? Creamy, cheesy, rich and filling. Filet Mignon? Juicy and packed with flavor. Spinach Loaf? Best bread dish I've ever had! Like with any fine dining establishment, price is a factor. Oliver's is no different and eating good ain't cheap. A meal for two will likely run in the $100 range give or take. We are legacy diners at Olivers. We also used it for almost every major family event as well as Thanksgiving and even Christmas to go during the pandemic. It's hard not to give it five stars because it's probably the best restaurant in town. With the remodel, it's lost some of its charm. While the food is consistently good, I'd love to see a little more fancy and a little more creativity. Not creative spins on the same American fare. Oliver's has been on our list to check out for a long time. We finally went last night for our anniversary dinner. I made reservations for 7:15pm - got there 5-10 minutes early and were greeted by the friendly maitre D. He asked if we wanted to head to the table right away and we did. (Btw there is complimentary valet parking) It was a nice and cozy 2 person booth table, which I liked, although I did not like the location of it (it was right off of the bar, lots of traffic of people coming and going). When I made the reservation on OpenTable.com I actually specified that it was our anniversary and that i would like a booth in a nice location. Perhaps it was my fault that i didn't specify what i meant by a "nice" location, but I just assumed that it wouldn't be a table right by the bar where other patrons and waitstaff are constantly walking by. They definitely made up for this in that the maitre D notified our waiter that it was our anniversary so the bar sent over 2 half glasses of free champagne. They also sent us some sashimi style salmon - not the best, but it was the thought/gesture that counted! Our waiter was an older guy who really knew his stuff. He recommended an amazing bottle of syrah (L'ecole 2010) even though we were originally going to go with a bottle half the price. I am fond of L'ecole wines though so we decided to splurge and go with the recommendation. Even though we enjoyed our time there and did not feel rushed at all, at times it did feel like our waiter had a story every time we asked a question or made a selection. Nevertheless, we enjoyed chit-chatting with him. We got the grilled octopus as an appetizer. At $15, the portion was EXTREMELY small. The presentation and the way they garnished everything was superb, as was the taste. But, I honestly felt like even at a high-end restaurant, that dish should have been double the size for the price. For our entrees, I got the duck and my fiance got the filet mignon. Both were SUPERB. My duck was succulent and had a slightly charred/crispy exterior yet tender and juicy interior. It was the best duck I have ever had in the US. It came with rappini or broccolini and ginger sticky black rice. I am salivating just writing about it! My fiance's filet mignon was also cooked perfectly and came with mashed potatoes and some wild mushrooms and greens. The outside of the filet was also slightly charred/crispy with the inside being extremely moist and flavorful. We both cleaned our plates. Sadly we did not have any room for dessert, but it is definitely something that I'll try and save room for next time because some of the pics i've seen on here look absolutely wonderful! We also found out that on Sundays, all of their wines are 1/3 off! It used to be half off (darn it!) but they have confirmed that it is now only 1/3 off. They do have a very extensive wine list! Sorry to have to write this but what a disappointment. I wanted to have the Blue Collard Worker. The burger in the nickel city chef competition. I called Olivers to verify availability and it was confirmed they were serving at dinners. We were seated promptly but it did take our waiter almost 15 min to bring our drinks then another 15 and we still had no bread or even ordered When the menus arrived the burger was not in there. The waiter had never heard of it but did go ask the chef. He came back only to tell me they were not serving it anymore. By now I am frustrated with time sitting there and now, what I came for, on my birthday, was not available. The waiter asked where I saw it so I showed him the site with the burger. He went to talk to the manager. BUT instead of the manager or chef coming out to apologize they sent the poor waiter. We decided to leave before going any further. I appreciated the waiter trying, that is why they get one star. But just a terrible way to operate and then not care enough to apologize yourself. I expected more out of Olivers. read more

Oliver's is one of only a handful of places in Western New York with a professional, career wait staff, in contrast to other places that are staffed by people on a career path other than the hospitality industry. From the maître d' to the bus staff and the waiters, they understand courtesy and protocol and the proper way to set a table, pour wine, serve drinks and present food. The bartenders know how to properly mix a drink and know which glass is used for which cocktail and wine. Most of the patrons understand the nature of this rare and upscale place and come appropriately dressed in suits and ties, etc. The food is excellent, although the menu is rather limited, but ever-changing. Our waiter, Carl Senior, knew the ingredients of each and every item on the menu about which we posed a question. His knowledge, attentiveness and expertise added to the dining experience. Even the valet knew which doors to open first, and how to present the keys. A special shout out to the dessert chef, Carly, for an extraordinary Napoleon with shaved strawberry rhubarb ices, passionfruit, and triple layer of philo dough with alternating custard and whipped cream. We visited on Easter and aren't from the area. My daughter reserved us the chef's room. It was perfect for our party of 7 and made the meal that much more special. Devin our waiter was spot on with meal and wine recommendations. He would be in his league in a high end NYC restaurant. We ordered pasta dishes, and steaks and all of them were delicious especially the braised rabbit bucatini that I ordered. Desserts were original and delicious, our youngest ordered a "robins egg" custard that looked almost too good to eat. We had an excellent 3 course dinner at Oliver's on a weeknight. Our server did not arrive at our table swiftly , but I think that the host forgot about us, until a waiter noticed us sitting there without menus or water. All was fine once we were waited on, and the service was very good. The shared cheese platter was very enjoyable as a starter ,and we had a good list o wines to choose from. Th sparkling (dry) Rose' was so good that I had two glasses. Our entrees of Flank Steak and Duck Breast were well prepared. We finished the meal with an excellent Pavlova dessert and pressed coffee. The price of dinner was expensive, but his is a fine dining restaurant and to be expected considering the quality o the food served here, in a nicely decorated quiet restaurant. Appetizers were great, steak was not. It was over cooked and not made to simple requests. Extremely disappointing.
