Great service! Many years ago I bought a pair of Oliver Peoples frames at an eyeglasses store in Madrid and they recently needed some TLC...or so I thought. When I brought the glasses in to this location, the clerk informed me that while they might be able to fix them, this frame had reached its end of life. While that wasn't great news - nothing seems to last forever - they informed me that I could purchase the exact frame and get it 50% off...and they would transfer my lenses as well. Deal! While I love Oliver Peoples glasses, I have had the most disappointing experience with this store. I bought two pair there last December. I was told that I should expect it to take 10 business days to receive my glasses. I did not receive my first pair that I purchased until 15 business days after purchase - nearly a week delayed. And no apology was offered by the staff when I called to inquire after them. I am STILL waiting for the second pair that I purchased to arrive, and it has been a month (20 business days, over four weeks) since I purchased them. No word from the store, no word from the Oliver Peoples company at large, whom I emailed through their website, as well. I just don't understand why one would pay thousands of dollars for glasses when many comparable options exist for a tiny fraction of the cost with better customer service. read more

On my recent trip to NY I decided to do a little hoofing it in SoHo when I came upon this sweet storefront. Not knowing the brand I went in to take a look since I needed a new pair of lighter colored sunglasses to replace a pair I'd lost. I spent a total of 10-15 minutes in the store and although the 2 employees were helping other customers they could have said hello or done anything more to acknowledge me than what they did which was give me the sideways stink-eye. WTF man. The inside of the store was maybe 15 feet wide if that so it was seriously cramped quarters and it wasn't like they didn't see me. They just opted to be snooty and forget their customer service sensibilities. If someone walks into your store, assume they are their to buy your product and treat them as such. This is something that should be addressed. As far as the frames were concerned, I did find one I was interested in but given the employee attitude I ended up walking out without buying a $400 pair of sunglasses. Customer lost. read more

Honestly I didn't consider going to OP because I expected to get the corporate runaround about warranties, upsell, etc. It's rare to find any places that will do repairs these days in our disposable world (landfills, Pacific Garbage Patch, global warming etc) So imagine my surprise when they had me fixed up in five minutes and sent me on my merry way. And I do mean MERRY because it's almost Christmas -- I was so grateful I pulled a box of chocolates from my tote bag stash of gifts reserved for clients and friends that I happened to be delivering that day. So my old eyeglasses were kind of a curse. The coating on the lenses chipped away precisely after the 1-year warranty was up, a screw fell out of them that can only be obtained in Paris, and the cord that made up the bio-mechanical hinge joint broke from wear and costed $120 to replace. And if that wasn't enough, none of my friends or family actually liked my glasses, and they always caused my nose to be red from the weight. I needed something different. A different eyeglass shop, a different style of glasses, and preferably a pair without such high maintenance costs. Enter Oliver Peoples. They have fashionable, even trendy eyewear that they sell for agreeable prices, so I was eager to check them out. Unwittingly though, I went on a Saturday which is a really busy day in SoHo for shopping. It was a bit chaotic in the small space of a boutique to try on glasses in front of a mirror with all of the people there ambling about. Nonetheless, I found a really friendly staff member who pulled frames for me to try on. He was very helpful in finding frames that fit my face well and that would generally look good on me. He didn't try to up-sell either. I was able to try on glasses that had a bold look, innocuous looking glasses, and so forth. I ultimately settled on a very light pair that blend in with my face pretty well, that both my girlfriend and I thought looked pretty nice. The whole process was painless and did not draw out too long. Total cost of frames and lenses with all of the perks like transition, anti-glare, etc. was $835. This was a pretty good savings over my last pair from Eyes on Broadway. I am happy! Also, when I went back to pick up the glasses, the gentleman that helped me try them on was especially adept. He could just look at my eyes, and determine the adjustments that needed to be made to the nose rests and stems to make for a perfect fit. He was really great about explaining how to care for them too. He was so knowledgeable about glasses, a byproduct of 16 years of experience and a general interest in what he does for a living. I was impressed. I definitely recommend checking out Oliver Peoples! (Only 4 stars, because the boutique had more of a mall feel to it on my first visit, and I prefer to avoid groups of people when I am shopping.) read more

I've always loved OP's line of glasses and sunglasses. Previous to visiting this store, I was already the proud owner of a studious pair of brown frames from them. So it was hard to resist a visit, especially as I was on the hunt for a new pair of sunglasses anyway. The saleswoman was super friendly and walked me through a few pairs to try on before giving me the stamp of approval. I like that sort of touch. After trying on a few pairs, I went with one of their Paul Smith labels (those who know me know that I love Paul Smith as well). Dang. I want to like Oliver Peoples so much. I used to be a super-fan and I bought two pairs of sunglasses from them in the past. I concur with most of the comments here on Yelp. Though I wouldn't say the staff was rude, I would say that the service was lukewarm. It always has been and always will be. I don't blame the staff. I blame Oliver Peoples. I don't know what salary their employees are making but if it is a low salary I could see why, what we see as customers as the staff not caring is really a front for Oliver Peoples not caring about their staff. Imagine working your ass off and making $11 an hour in NYC, and no matter how hard you work or how many eyeglasses you sell it is still just $11 and hour. Oliver Peoples needs to incentivize their staff. How about giving their staff a considerable commission on every pair of frames and lenses sold? I'm sure if the Oliver Peoples, with their outrageously expensive prices, could certainly afford to pay a commission, but then again, are we dealing with Oliver Peoples or their evil parent company, Luxottica? In any case, a commission based business will separate the staff that merely wants to hang out from those who really want to earn money. Maybe instead of ignoring people who walk in the door employees would smile, greet every single person and offer to help them if help is needed. What a concept! ... but, even with this said, I am willing to look over the lukewarm service because I used to love Oliver Peoples. Their designs are so drool worthy; elegant, edgy, just sheer class. Their lens colors; complicated, earthy and weighted. I have not had a pair of Oliver Peoples eyeglasses in many years and so I wanted to get reacquainted. They are not the same. I picked up one pair of glasses and noticed the hinges were single-barreled and when I picked up another pair I noticed the hinges were double-barreled. Why? Because though Oliver Peoples stamps their trademark on their frames, their frames are not made by Oliver Peoples. Their frames are made by a second party. Oliver Peoples will tell you that some frames are made from acetate (Mazzucchelli?) but other frames are made from cheap polycarbonate plastic. Which is which? You have to ask. I needed Progressive lenses. How much? $615! Just for lenses. Oliver Peoples uses their own in-house optical lens facility and I was told that their lenses are "based" on Shamir Autograph lll lenses which you could buy elsewhere for around $300. What's more? Are the lenses Shamir Autograph lll or, perhaps, are they the cheaper ll versions? This kind of information does not sit will with me and I had to pull teeth from the staff just for them to offer me this information. Folks, if you get progressive lenses you better get a guarantee of what you are getting. Perhaps the worse part of my visit to Oliver Peoples isn't the lukewarm service or the price gouging. Like I said, it is worth it to me because I think the frames are really that beautiful and are worth the pain and sacrifice. What made me more angry than anything was the branding. I remember the day when I used to walk into Oliver Peoples and study their frames like they were sculpture. Form follows function. Oliver Peoples frames used to be pure form and pure elegance. Every angle, every curve, and every surface had consequence. Not any more. Now on the temple their is a long, narrow strip of metal embedded into the plastic frames with the Oliver Peoples logo on it. Ugh! Logos! Don't worry, I was told. You don't really see it when the frames are on. Wow, Oliver Peoples really has taken a back seat to Luxottica. How is this experience any different from walking into Lens Crafters and seeing Prada, Ray Ban, Polo, Bulgari, and Armani plastered on all their eye frames? It's not. Oliver Peoples is now just another niche arm of the Luxottica brand. So sad. read more

First, the positive: This shop has wonderful, super awesome frames. I love the designs and I will come here again to buy frames. The clerks were really great at helping me find frames that fit my face. Love them for that. Now, the negative: I've never had a more frustrating experience in any eyeglass shop ever in my life. I've never had to spend months getting the right lenses into my frames ever. AND I've never had store clerks try to convince me as hard as these folks had that it wasn't their fault that I couldn't see properly. I think the problem is located in the fact that this place doesn't have an onsite optometrist. The clerks don't really know what they're talking about and find it easier to place the blame elsewhere. They kept convincing me that my prescription was off when it really wasn't. I ended up getting my lenses refitted at another shop (with the same prescription) because I simply got tired of dealing with them. read more

As an update to my bad experience with OP not honoring their warranty on scratched, 2 month old lenses beacuse the manager said they "looked induced"; my optician (Federal Hill Eyecare) just delivered the new lenses for me in 5 days at $151.40 instead of the $200 from Peoples, handed me the glasses and said "here you go, you have a two year warranty -no questions asked". If you like the Peoples frames, do yourself a favor, dont let them do the lenses, take them to your trusted professional. read more

Worst customer service ever! Snooty sales reps who whispered to each other while I was talking to them. Too cool to explain things nicely, just assumed that I know everything about glasses. And they dared charge me more than $400 (w/o thinness) for the prescription lenses ONLY and told me it's the average price in the neighborhood! I said bye-bye. And guess what, I got the exact OP frame I wanted with a pair of thin lenses from an optical store a few blocks away, for $490 IN TOTAL! I'm not giving my money to OP retailers! read more

I bought a single pair of sunglasses from this store several years ago and since then I've had to bring them in a number of times since i have a tendency to drop, scrape and step on all things i come in contact with. This store has been exceptional to me. Always happy to replace small parts and reshape my glasses for free. Once i brought them in because i broke one of the temples and they just gave me a brand new pair. I've never received such a level of service before. I cant recommend this place enough. Awful, awful, awful customer service. I went in with cash to spend, wanting to purchase two new pairs of glasses. I was ignored for a very long time and had to fight for an associate. Once I got to try on a pair of glasses, I was quickly forgotten about. I even asked a sales associate to ring out my purchase--and was ignored! It is safe to say I walked out there without a new pair of glasses. The store only had one other customer. Go to all of the other boutiques that carry OP and would love your service. I've purchased two frames from this store, both attractive; the staff (a female, I recall) was polite and helpful. Not so for after-care. The frames purchased here broke from relatively low impact - one falling onto carpet and breaking at the bridge, another onto a granite counter and oddly cracking at the rim. I expected better stress resistance from OP. Management was not helpful, 'snooty' (as described by other reviewers), insisting all fault was due to the user, not the manufacturer. Of course use induces stress - the point of a product to resist wear, no? - but to insinuate that I handle glasses inappropriately (one-handed removal from face?) is a rude assertion. Little respect and no goodwill (eg discount, promotion) for a return customer. So no return customer. If I absolutely crave OP, I'll buy online, or from another store. read more

I thought I'd posted a review before; I guess I made a mistake from my mobile smartphone. Anyway, about a month ago, I went into OP with a bag full (5 pairs) of stretched-out, off-kilter, in need-of-repair OP & Paul Smith sunglasses, and the store was buzzing with customers. Not one, but two technicians worked on my glasses, even personally fitting and re-fitting me until they were all perfectly adjusted. And in the end, didn't charge me a dime. This is why I have always patronized designer goods -- for the customer service long after the purchase. I visited this store on 10/11/10 looking for Tycoon's frame. I usually don't feel comfortable shopping in the high-end stores, but I was warmly welcomed and salespeople helped me to find out everything I needed. I loved that the salespeople were not too pushy and let me to check out the frames first. The associates were extremely rude in communicating that I could not try them on until the following Monday. If you want to skip the quirky vintage set and head straight for some basic, flattering frames, this is a great place to go. I found at least two pair that I loved, and they had plenty of styles for different tastes. If I could afford to, I probably would have walked out with two pairs from here, and grabbed a fun vintage pair somewhere else. The prices aren't low, it should be said, but they are fairly standard for new frames in a boutique. Service was great - not too pushy or hands on, but I got good advice and suggestions when I needed it. One of the pairs I liked best was the first that the salesman had me try on, so I believe that they know what they're up to in this place. read more
