I wanted to support companies that attempted to stick around my neighborhood during and after the worst of the pandemic so I came here and bought a great pair of prescription eyeglasses here in October of 2021, less than 1 year ago, for around $450.. the frames were around $275 if I recall and I got "single vision" transition lenses in them. Love them! Told others how much I liked them. Thought I'd be a customer for life! Unfortunately I need to change the prescription so I stopped in to ask what the cost of new lenses would be. I was shocked and frankly appalled when I was told they'd be about $400. Just for the lenses. Are you kidding me? We ALL know you new to make money on transactions but that's ridiculous. So much for establishing any brand loyalty. They obviously do not care about loosing customers at these prices. Shameful. read more

I've been coming here solely at the Bleecker street location since 2010. Beautiful and alluring storefront in Greenwich village. I always find awesome and unique glasses here. Apparently, their custom frames are exclusively crafted. I've come in for an annual appointment with no plans to get anything and walked out with a new purchase. Some specs come in a limited quality. My glasses usually double as sunglasses and I get many compliments on them. The workers (particularly Yan) have a good eye and make great recommendations. At this particular branch, they have an eye doctor that comes in Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They accept most eye insurances (Eyemed, Spectera, Davis, Superior, NVA, Blue cross). read more

Worst corporate customer service I've experienced in a long while. Never blame the customer for your mistakes, lie, accuse, then wish them luck. UPDATE: Just had an incredible conversation with someone in corporate. Seems like bad customer service is limited to the person answering their emails. In a nutshell, too much time passed between my initial purchase for SEE to fix their mistake. The first prescription was wrong, then they called the wrong phone number, but why should their own mistakes be a factor? I had no problem with the staff in the SoHo store, they were great. The problem was they wanted to charge me to change the prescription, using the lapsed time and corporate policy as the excuse. I said no to the charge and left with glasses that I cannot use. I reached out to their corporate office. Although I was complementary of their staff and said I only want to let them know how I disagreed with their policy, things went downhill, quickly. In a series of emails, customer service manager Sarah, continue to ignore the mistakes made at SEE, accuses me of lying and mistreating their employees, then politely told me to eff off. read more

The frame was recommended by the See sales team based on my prescription, but the lens kept falling out. I brought it back and was told to get a one replacement lens, which I was charged extra for. When I went back again with the same issue of the lens keep falling out, I asked for a replacement frame and a refund of the cost of the replacement lens. It's frustrating to know that this company does not fix their mistakes and wants me to pay an additional 50% for a new frame for a faulty frame and recommendation." As a customer for 4 years, this location becomes so disappointing in terms of customer care. Only Yan and the Ophthalmologist can help you to get outstanding service! The store manager, Lisa, and the front desk girl, Jodi are going to make you feel miserable. Good luck if you need something to be done on time or they address what you need through the phone. I wasn't expected to spend almost $1500 for some pair of eye frames and hear the staff is yelling at you in front of each other and no one would show any appropriate reaction. Instead, they tell me to be quiet and not reflect how I felt about their behavior. How disappointing. I have come here for years, and always loved the unique and beautiful frames. But even more, the friendly, helpful, patient service. Since the pandemic, that has disappeared. Unresponsive on the phone. When you do manage to get them, they are so rude, and they say they'll call you back, and they don't. I had a few pairs of non See brand sunglasses that needed repair. I walked in and was greeted by Hayley. She said that she could repair my glasses as I waited. Within 5 minutes she installed new screws on the arms of my favorite sunglasses. I said thank you and asked how much would it be. To my surprise she said no charge! I love the large selection of gorgeous & unique frames at See and have been a customer for years. I recently bought four pair of glasses from the Upper West Side store. Two were the same frame in different colors. I was told when I ordered them that they would be raised up to fit my face with permanent rubber inserts on the nosepiece. When they arrived 3 weeks later, they did not fit. They fell down my nose and caused pain behind my ears. I do not live in the city but I stayed overnight to continue seeking adjustments from every See store in NYC! The staff at every location was always pleasant and helpful, but the adjustments just did not last. I later found out that some plastics do not hold adjustments for longer than an hour or so. I left the city with my cruel/painful glasses and called See asking for advice. I had two pair of glasses I could not use. I was told all sales are final. I went to an optometrist in my area and was told the glasses from See were not my size, were too heavy for my face, and were not fixable. I bought a new pair of lovely, comfortable glasses and will have to give the two from See to the Lion's Club. I won't return to See except maybe to buy frames, they do have really cool options, but never again will I buy lenses there. BUYER BEWARE! read more

I went to SEE Eyewear with my new prescription when I needed new glasses; I went there seven months ago and ordered three pairs of glasses. I went to the Columbus Avenue store and ordered three costly glasses. The reader's glasses had to be revised twice as the first time they were made incorrectly, but the progressives' glasses they redid three times, and each time the glasses' prescription felt the same like nothing had been changed. The sales lady claims that she revised them, but I wonder if they were as they were similar and incorrect all three times. She tried to force me to take the wrong glasses, telling me I would get used to them. The problem was that the bottom part of the progressive lens, where I was supposed to be able to read, was very blurry each time. The saleslady tried pushing the glasses up on my nose, so they hit my eyelashes. I repeatedly asked for a new, more experienced person to help but was referred to Sophia, the "regional" director, who never returned my many phone calls. The store manager, Jason, was so rude and unhelpful and never offered to help and had not once one of caring as he acted like I was a nuisance when I spent close to $2,000 on three pairs of glasses. I have called corporate, and they also do not return calls and have acted like this is something they can not handle. They did not offer me a new eye exam or try a more experienced person. They gave up and said we can not help you. Buyer, Beware, they want to sell you an overpriced product; the people here do not care about correctly making glasses. It seems the hours upon days upon years of starting at a computer have taken their toll. The headaches, the squinting, you know how it goes. Thus, today is the dawn of a new era in my life. I have glasses. Mind you, they're only reading glasses, but still - this is the first day I have ever owned any kind of spectacles. See was the first place that popped into my mind. Having long been a big fan of their friendly/funky frames, I called to see if they did eye exams. They do! I made an appointment, and after a quick but thorough exam, they recommended a pair of "readers" as they call them. They figured that would help. After a fun session of trying on and a full consultation of the staff. I picked a fun, classic tortoise shell (pictures to come). My bottom line - I wouldn't advise shopping here if you're from out of town. I came in while visiting from out of town and I enjoyed the experience in the store - I tried on tons of frames and everyone was very helpful, efficient, etc. I loved the eye Dr - she was very thorough and kind. However, when I got the glasses, they were supposed to be progressives. I tried them on and noticed no difference from my normal glasses. I was told that they would be different and I would need to get used to them as there would be three different magnifications in the glasses for sight at different distances. Really and truly, there was absolutely no difference - no magnification when I looked towards the bottom of my lens, no decreased peripheral vision - everything was just the same as my regular glasses (except the price!). I went to a local optometrist to have them looked at and they were very confident that the lenses were NOT progressives. They compared my lenses to a pair of progressives and showed me the difference - it was easy to see that there were different magnifications in the progressive lenses in my hometown store. I called the company line and left a message, and the store from which I made my original purpose called back and seemed irritated that I had done so. They insisted that they check every pair of glasses and that there was no way my lenses were wrong. The next day, I got a call from an otherwise pleasant eye doctor who again explained that I would simply need to get used to the lenses - I again explained there was nothing to get used to as there was absolutely no difference in my progressives vs my old lenses! To their credit, they sent me a return label and I returned my glasses to have them inspected and remade. When they arrived back to nyc, I was told that they *were* progressives, they weren't sure what my problem was, but that they would increase the magnification slightly and return the new pairs to me. Ok, thank you. Got them in today, ahead of schedule, but I still see no difference. I don't see the hallmarks of the lens that I was shown in my hometown optometrist. I don't see any improvement in reading fine print. I don't notice any difference at all when I look up to when I look down. I don't know what's wrong with this place or these lenses, but if I lived closer I"d probably go in again to have them explain to me why I paid extra for progressives that make no difference in my sight. Since I live out of town and have a life outside my need for glasses, I'll just keep the regular lenses and let it go - but I won't buy from SEE again while wandering in other cities! read more

After spending thousands of dollars here, I have happily switched to Warby Parker. The reality is SEE is awful, aside from its chic styles. They are expensive. They have a short endurance. Customer service is erratic to unsympathetic. (They really do not want to be bothered after a sale.) The bathroom is a sty. And, any 21st century business that opens its door on a 90 degree day is environmentally Trump-ist. SEE is all about the sale. I have returned several times for loose hinges and deteriorating temples. Lenses scratch easily, despite obsessive care. The manager could care less. She makes poor excuses. It's hard to reach corporate in Detroit. It's hopeless. It's indifferent. SEE is simply awful. Do not waste your money here. The customer comes last. Far last. I had a wonderful experience at See a year ago while visiting a friend in LA. The frames were unique and varied, the salespeople friendly and helpful, and clear in their explanation of prices and additional features. Needing a new pair of frames, I wandered over to the Bleecker Street location for a cool new pair. To my chagrin, the frames were more homogenous than I'd previously seen, and the salesman was bored and aloof. I managed to snag what I thought was a great Groupon deal - $200 off a full set of frames - and ended up paying $268 AFTER the discount. The salesman told me if I got the regular lenses, they would "stick out" and that I'd have to get the upgraded pair in order for them not to (I don't see why I would have to pay extra for lenses that lay normally?) and charged me for anti-reflective lenses without querying if I wanted them. Overall a really disappointing experience at a store I thought would be a go-to for years to come. read more

GUESS WHO HAS SLIGHT ASTIGMATISM? Ugh, it's me. I found out waayyy back in, um, June. I didn't fill my prescription right away for two reasons: (1) I was poor at the time. Still am, actually, but Papa's got a brand new plastic card to swipe. (2) But more importantly, I sort of have a fear about glasses, and how I look in them. I've been near-sighted since high school, ever since I realized I couldn't read the board* and also when the DMV reluctantly let me pass the vision test even though they said, "But you should get it together and see an optometrist." Ah, Pennsylvania. Letting a blind sixteen-year-old drive. Bless your heart.** So you'd think that after years of having glasses, picking them out wouldn't be so painful. It should be fun! A visually pleasing candy shop! Literally! But I just don't think I look good in them. What I desperately needed was a place that could help me pick out the right frames. A place that puts a little more thought into personal attention than, say, Lenscrafters. (I'm looking at you, lady who sighed and gave up on me two years ago. "I just don't know. That's all I have. Good luck.") After a friend had a good experience at a SEE store in Boston, I promptly took advantage of my half day before Thanksgiving and went in open-minded, ready to finally get it over with. The employees are extremely helpful, excitable, and best of all, more than willing to help you honestly pick out a pair of frames. "You're wearing them; they're not wearing you." Bless your heart. Even better: They were having a great deal, where if you bought one pair of frames, you'd get $200 (or something equally ridiculous) off another pair. I nabbed another pair of frames from the 50% off shelf for free. Two pairs for the price of one! And here I thought you were going to win again, New York. The best part? My glasses were ready THREE days later. Granted, my prescription is pretty weak, so maybe that helps speed up the process, but that is some fast turn-around. And I really do love both pairs, something I say free of any trepidation. So thank you, SEE, for helping me tighten up my vision again and for making me feel geek chic and trendy. I was dragged in here one night when I was passing by with a friend who had been on a passive hunt for new sunglasses. Their selection is undoubtedly very trendy and modern. A salesman was quickly at our service and spent a fair amount of time with us as she tried on different frames. There was a couple in their 40s (50s?) sitting in there who I assume to be the managers or owners or something like that. The man seemed to be torturing this younger salesman helping us ("oh you didn't show her the ____ frames?"; "you didn't tell her about the special this week"). It was as if they were giving him a hard time for the sake of it, which was very uncomfortable. Also, neither parties seemed to be giving my friend sound advice on what looked best on her. Granted, I'm not up on the latest eyewear fashion, but given my friend's shape and complexion, I couldn't let her purchase some of the stuff they were having her try. Update: The did replace the the second broken pair. This place has cool glasses, and eager sales people. They are friendly and seemingly helpful...that is as long as you are purchasing. I should know, i have bought 5 pairs there and referred countless people to them. For style and selection i have always sang their praises. With that said, they are not so good on the clinical side of eyewear. Yes, there are 2 sides. One does like to look great in glasses, more importantly, at least to me, I want to see well from looking out of them! And know that if I, a loyal customer, have a problem with my glasses (especially at $500+/pair) they are there to help me. After all the whole purpose of glasses is really to SEE not to be seen. Dont get me wrong, I do like to look good in my eyewear. 3 out of the 5 pair I have purchased there did fine. It is the other 2 I have issue with. Most recently, the temple fell off of my most recent purchase, still just under warranty period. I love the glasses, so I took them by to have them repaired. Surprise...the sales girl said they were broken. Well, I am no genius but they were in 2 pieces. She did put the piece back on, but in no way repaired them. They are crooked and the spring is broken, and they slide off my face. She agreed that they were not repaired properly, as she is not a technician, only a salesperson. She told me that they do not repair their glasses and that even under warranty, since this pair was discontinued, all she could do was replace them with a new design at 1/2 off. (not clear exactly what 1/2 off means since there are several charges in creating a pair of glasses for me) OK, move to pair number 2 that I have had problems with. First they put both a tint and transitions lenses in them and said they would be fine for any use. They ended up way too dark and the progressive portion was totally off. They did swap out the lenses but did not get the placement of the power correct, so when I wear them, (if I want to see out of them) they sit way too low and the power is not centered with my eyes. I went back 3 times to have them corrected and they have never been right and they will not fix them. Problem is, I love the frames. So I deal with wearing them too low and moving my head around to see somewhat properly through them. Is that fashionable? lol I only returned to buy another pair because they offered $100 off. And I do like the frames there. Lets face it, while $100 does help, when the frames are $300, +200.+100, +??, not so much of a discount especially when the tech part is hit or miss. My time going back, and back again for futile adjustments is worth something. While I do like the store, and the salespeople, this place is not serious when it comes to vision. Fashion may be important but if I cant SEE whatt the point of having a great pair of glasses. Maybe its best to purchase at See and go elsewhere for the medical portion. read more

Loved the look of the frames I got from See about a year ago, except I'm going with two stars for two reasons: 1) Even after going back to have them adjusted, every time I got myself into a looking-at-something-short situation, the glasses would free fall from my face. Maybe they were suicidal, I don't know, but grocery shopping while pinning your glasses to your nose is not my idea of low-maintenance vision correction. 2) I did not get the vision exam at See, but had my normal optometrist send over my prescription. I started getting headaches after wearing the glasses, so I visited my optometrist. She put the glasses in some calibrator and said that they were a quarter point or degree or something off of the prescription. She said that this was the maximum allowable variance, so I probably couldn't take them back, but I might notice some discomfort. Which I did. read more

I've visited SEE in both San Francisco and New York now and I have to say it's quite the different experience. I absolutely loved the SEE in San Francisco -- the people there were generous, informative, and fantastic in customer service. They made you feel completely comfortable and never pressured you to make a decision or to buy a pair of glasses -- stayed attentive and took as much time as you needed to help you make the right decision no matter what the glasses cost. On the other hand this particular SEE on Bleecker in New York was a travesty of an experience. The second we walked in we were ignored and seemingly purposefully. There were at least three salespeople, one of which wasn't doing anything but chatting it up with another salesman. The other two was semi-helping other customers but every person that walked through those SEE doors got an exuberant "Hello!" While we got nothing. Maybe it's because they didn't know we were there, or they didn't know we were interested in buying a pair of glasses? No. We made eye contact with at least two of the salespeople multiple times and they did nothing but look away. I didn't realize that we were playing snobbery games. We walked around the store, trying on glasses, trying to get some attention for at least 40 minutes. NOTHING. I'll be spending my $200+ on our 3rd pair of SEE glasses in San Francisco. Eh. SEE lured me in with a nice window display, trendy graphic design, and a coupon in Lucky magazine that gave me 20% off glasses. They have a wide range of styles and lots of plastic frames that DON'T make you look emo. I made my choice after a couple of visits. I have obscenely thick lenses and was told they would put an edge coating on them that would match my frames, thus making them appear less thick. The salesperson was very attentive... when I was looking around. He told me the glasses should arrive in 7-10 days and they would call me when they come in. Over 2 weeks later, I didn't get a call so I checked up with them. They said the color on the edge coat didn't match the frame so they sent it back for lenses without edge coating. They took that off the price, but I wish they would have given me the option then to pick a frame that was easier to match. I'm glad I got the glasses because I need a back up when my contacts dry. Yet, because the whole issue I explained really failed to mask the thickness of the lenses, I don't wear them out. Though I wasn't thrilled with SEE, i gave it 3 stars because it was still better then getting glasses through my optometrist. read more

There really is such thing as the perfect pair-- it can make or break your look. Maybe a little like a wedding dress, a lo can look okay, but there is always that one that's really just YOU (note: I am NOT nor have I ever been married... but word on the street is...). Anyway, as a slave to the fashion industry for almost my entire life I really appreciate and honest relationship with sales associate and consumer. I'm sorry, NOT telling me my ass looks fat in those jeans isn't doing YOU any favors cause when I come to my senses and return them, well yes, I WILL blame you. Luckily, SEE doesn't sell jeans and if they did, at least they would be honest. I tried on almost the entire store and Joey was quite frank with me about what was flattering and what wasn't. I loved my glasses so much that I ended up bringing a couple of friends by to get some new specs. Even though the place was busy, I was quickly greeted so I could start my eye exam. This is where things got a little sketchy. It was not terribly clear that I could not use my insurance with the Groupon, but considering it was $200 in glasses for $50, I was OK with using the Groupon for a pair of sunglasses. The eye doctor could not have had less of a personality and behaved like it was a burden that he had to waste 8 minutes on me. It was the quickest eye exam I have ever had. We did pick out two pairs of glasses, but when it came time to sort out the payment using the coupon for one pair and my insurance for the second, the clerk did not apply my insurance right. I love my glasses! You can see them in my photos, and I think they're fabulous. The store is based in Michigan, my home state. I have to support my home team, and SEE makes it easy. They have great service, great selection, and amazing groupon deals. I got a great deal here two months ago - $187 for my sweet tortoise shell frames, anti-reflective single vision lenses - I took my friend there to find the perfect specks, his first pair. He stopped by SEE before I got there, then went to another place. I met him at the other place and dragged him and his insurance card right back to SEE. The first pair he tried on were perfect. He tried on at least 15 pairs, which helped him make the decision that the first pair were indeed the pair he liked best. The sales lady was sporting some funky glasses and red lipstick on her teeth, but she was happy and helpful. She even compared our groupon vs his insurance to find the best price. Best glasses shopping experience, felt more personal than a Cohens or Lenscrafters. I would have given 5 stars, but when I ordered glasses they didn't come when promised. read more

whoa. The world is now in HD again which is absolutely amazing. I just got my glasses from SEE and love them. They have a ton of cool frames to choose from and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. We went around trying a ton of different glasses and found the right ones for me. I want to write more, but excuse me while I go check out my brand new world around me.... update 10 days later... I cant tell you how many times ive been complimented on my new glasses. I even got a free snack (the ones you have to pay for..obviously) on American Airlines because the stewardess liked them so much and it sparked a conversation about glasses. True Story. read more

Lisa the store manager is very AGGRESSIVE. She just tells you the most expensive option for your glasses. I asked if there were cheaper glasses or what were my options and she was difficult. I left without buying anything because I did not feel comfortable. Be sure you check and ask prices because they charge the most expensive stuff without asking you. I am not coming back. read more

The person at the register did not know what she was doing. I had to wait 15 minutes because she claimed the "computer wasn't working." But when her co-worker finally helped her, he had no problem. What she really should have said was "I don't know what I'm doing, you're going to have to wait until the person who does can help you." If that had bee all though, I probably wouldn't be writing this review. When I questioned my bill, which I thought was just going to be an eye exam, but apparently was a contact fitting as well, even though I did not wear any contacts through the exam, the man (the one who knew how to use the computer) pointed at my prescription and said "what do you think this is for??" Instead of explaining the charges to me WITHOUT an attitude. I still do not trust that the charges are justified and will get on the phone with my insurance as soon as I finis this review. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, I've lived in NYC for 5 years and every year I go to a new eye doctor trying to avoid leaving feeling like I'm being ripped off and every year I fail. Eye doctors are worse than mechanics, they're all a bunch of con artists. read more

Outstanding Service! Very friendly and funny staff! Three years ago I bought my first pair of glasses here. I came back a few weeks ago hoping for a new look. Turns out they had my prescription on file. Painless eye exam procedure- shout out to Dr. Lin who was very nice and also very cute. Their floor staff helped me find a new pair within a few minutes. Then yesterday I came in to get replacement frames for an older pair: they spotted the glasses as I pulled them out of my pocket and instantly unearthed the exact same frames. I came in here to look around for some new sunglasses. I know it's Winter, but it's always good to plan ahead. SEE has designs that you can only find here. They actually designed it themselves. Sunglasses are $99 and they are actually good quality sunglasses. For that price, I was kinda leaning to gets some Ray Bans, but I was told to come back again to see the new stock. The staff was really helpful and the layout and look of the store is really pleasing to the eye. I will definitely come back and check out the new styles. read more
