The other day I walked in there with my boyfriend from Toronto we were out for a day of shopping I remember a French optician that worked in this particular store I couldn't remember her name and when I asked about her the current worker told us that she moved to Paris. I was sad about that but when ironically an hour later walking a couple blocks away (Who did I see ?) I seen the same French optician working at another optic store what horrible public relations This service is a total downgrade to lie like that This is the McDonald's of optics. Very disappointed with Barton Perreira. I purchased a pair of frames for my vision glasses due to their design and with their history with Oliver Peoples (which I have owned several pairs over the years). The frames developed a crack along the top seam making it impossible to ever change lenses. I reached out via their corporate site and followed up with several emails, in which I never got a response. Eventually after calling both stores in NYC, multiple times, I was handed off to an individual who said they were just a wholesaler and had no further contact information. Worth every penny are the Barton Perreira Cassady eyeglass frames I purchased via the Manhattan store of my old stomping grounds and had mailed to me at my current home near Boise Idaho. These frames are the most expensive by a little of any I have purchased in my...well...many decades of wearing glasses and are among my favorites of all time and perhaps the most comfortable ever. I am, fer-shure, not the uber-hip, young, sleek model of their ads. I'm old enough to remember the tears in my gradeschool teacher's eyes when he told us President Kennedy had been killed and it was just two years later that I put on my first pair of glasses. So with the life experience to appreciate excellent design and quality, I also appreciate balancing my budget to factor in purchase of these high quality and price to match frames. Life is short. I can't take it with me. I'll invest some of it in great design and comfort in eyeglasses. B-P BACKSTORY: This is a luxury brand started by colleagues and friends Bill Barton and Patty Perreira, he formerly executive for Oliver Peoples and Optical Shop of Aspen and she design director with experience at both. About Bartpn Perreira's luxury positioning they are clear in their marketing. When one notes Stephen Colbert on his recent cover shoot (was it for GQ or Vanity Fair?) wearing Barton Perreira eyeglasses one can surmise that is so. And when one knows that this brand is going to be featured as worn by the characters in the upcoming James Bond film (which was supposed to be released in April 2020 but pandemic delayed until time unknown 2021) one might intuit it s also an uber-hip brand creating designs that are both ahead of the pace for being current and timelessly of their time at the same time. Also this is one of the few independently owned eyeglass frame companies, unlike the big conglomerates who mass produce several brands, and the attention to materials and quality of construction is more than excellent. HOW I ENDED UP HERE: Had I known all of the above when I called this Manhattan store to talk to someone about a frame style I saw in an eyeglasses seller in my city but about which the staff at that store knew nothing ("Does this frame come in other sizes?" Don't know. "What other colors is it offered in?" Don't know. "These frames are beautiful quality material, what other styles does the manufacturer make?" Don't know.) I might have been too intimidated to make a purchase given I am absolutely not in that hip buyer set. But ignorance is bliss at times and I decided to email the retail shop in a city familiar to me, Manhattan, to find out more. The store staff replied back immediately to answer my questions and through serendipity I was connected to Elisabeth who at the time (early 2020) ran this store, was passionate about and so well versed in the brand, and also a stylist of first order in helping me to choose just the right color in the frames in which I was interested which she agreed would be a perfect choice for my face and in a smaller size (one of 3 size options) that worked perfectly to be "me". Also this was particularly "sweeeet", while the retailer in my city told me they would require a non-refundable $240 deposit (half their store's retail price) to order a pair of these frames to try for size and color - that is if I didn't like them the retailer here would not refund my deposit - Elisabeth was happy to send me 3 colors to consider that she thought the best for me after I sent her a photo (right she was, they were all great and none of them would have been my choice without her help) and I paid only express shipping back and forth on the frames to send back the two I didn't keep. THEY DO LENSES TOO, I THINK: I have a super complicated prescription and so I like to have my lenses done by a local optical shop that I know is excellent at that (alas, this local optician does not carry B-P frames although I wish they did) but I believe B-P can do the lenses too if you want to order those with your frames. I'LL BE BACK: I'm soon to be in the market for another pair of frames and if I can get the same assistance through this Manhattan retail shop as I did for my first pair, I'll buy B-P frames again. IF I COULD WAVE A MAGIC WAND: The manager at my local optician was not enthusiastic when I told him I was buying frames via mail to bring in for lenses. He had seen too many poor quality 'disasters' (he's talkin' to you Warby-Parker) via that route. But when he saw the B-P fames he said "These are beautifully made and fit you perfectly." I think so too and if I could wave a magic wand I would move the local retail for Barton Perreira to this top quality for service and optical business instead of the one they currently use where the staff discouraged me from ordering to try these frames. The worst pair of glasses I've ever purchased, so uncomfortable and they don't fit squarely on my face. My lens keeps cracking on the top of the frame and the optometrist says the warranty is over and I am stuck with these broken uncomfortable frames. Stay away! read more

I purchased my first pair of Barton Perreira frames in 2014 and have been a loyal customer of the brand ever since. The quality, fit, and finish of each pair is second to none. However, I wanted to focus my review on the Upper East Side location; specifically the store's manager Alline. From my first interaction with her, she blew me away with her knowledge, helpfulness, and her warm personality. Over the past couple of years, I've stopped in the store every few months or so, either to buy a pair of glasses, get my existing frames adjusted, or just to browse around. Each time I come in she greets me by name as if I'm an old friend, making me feel welcome and comfortable. When my local optician attempted to adjust my frames and ended up making the fit worse, I took them to Alline and she instantly saw what was wrong and fixed them for me within two minutes. I cannot say enough good things about the service I've received from her, and in fact I've told many friends and family members about how incredible she is! Alline is a huge reason why I will continue to shop at Barton Perreira. read more

This is an excellent Barton Perreira store with incredible service. Alline went above and beyond for me in finding a rare style of Barton Perreira sunglasses from over 10 years ago that I was looking for. She is so responsive and knows every detail of the sunglasses. She shipped me the sunglasses in lightening speed and they were beautifully packaged when they arrived. I would recommend this store and ask for Alline as she knows what she's doing and provides great service. read more

I have always appreciated the quality of Barton Perriera frames. I wanted to buy a sunglass clip to go along with a pair that I purchased. I called this location to order the clip and the person that I spoke with acted like she was doing me a favor and did not want to be bothered. My sister and I had the best experience at this luxury eyeglass shop this past weekend. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon to see if we can find some sunglasses before our upcoming trip to Hawaii. My sister has not had a ton of luck when looking for eyewear and was really pressing to find a pair that fulfilled all of her needs and of course fit her face. Well we were pleasantly surprised to encounter a eyeglass store that had a vast selection to choose from in all types of styles and colors in high quality materials. The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant throughout our entire experience, they were very knowledgeable in regards to their products which allowed us to purchase with confidence and ease. I can't say enough positive things about my experience at Barton Perreira. I used to own Oliver People eyeglasses but the color on them faded and needed a new pair of glasses. I came across this store and was greeted immediately by very friendly workers. I have since purchased two pairs of eyeglasses from Barton Perreira and I regularly get compliments from people. Even though I live downtown, I come to this store to get my glasses adjusted as they do the best job. TLDR - should be zero stars, don't shop here I bought two pair of frames plus lenses from this store. When I tried the frames on in the store (after the lenses had been made), they fit correctly and the frames seemed fine. They were then put into cases by a store employee. When I took them out the next day, the pair I was planning on wearing had been bent to the point of being unwearable. When I went to back to the store to have them looked at, the frames were still bent (this time in the other direction) after four separate attempts to fix them. At this point I gave back both pairs of frames and asked for a full refund. The next day I received an email from Bill Barton himself (or at least from his email account) which accused me of trying to commit insurance fraud. I don't think I have ever had a company accuse me of a crime for trying to return a clearly defective product. I sent an admittedly frustrated email in reply saying that I would forgo any refund if he would apologize for his comments. He refused. Insofar as it's relevant, I've been wearing glasses for twenty years and have never had a problem like this. read more

I want to express my deepest gratitude for my wonderful experience at the Barton Perreira store earlier this week. As soon as I entered the store I was greeted by their attentive staff. From that moment, I knew I was going to be satisfied with my visit. Their greeting seemed sincere and not forced, which you don't find most places you shop at nowadays. The gentleman there assisted me with finding me the perfect pair of sunglasses. He walked me through various styles, providing insight into the backstory behind the names of each particular style. Many of them are influenced by musicians like Lauryn Hill and Amy Winehouse... As a devout music listener, I immediately found myself identifying more with the brand. That to me is important when selecting items I am going to wear, as they are an extension of who I am and who I aspire to be. As I tried on various styles (some of which I picked and some his own selections), he let me know which frames were more flattering on my face given its contours. He was dead on with the points he was making. I found myself being very agreeable and I was impressed by his knowledgeability. The craftsmanship of the glasses is second to none. Despite the walkthrough I was given, I went with a style I found three years ago which the gentleman located with ease. The people at Barton Perreira will bend over backwards to find you your perfect frame. And it actually isn't such an arduous task for the employees or customers, seeing the variety of styles and colors on display at the Barton Perreira store. You can see for yourself the attention to detail and breadth of sophistication that goes into the glasses just by observing what's on display at the store. And you will have a great time doing so with some of the most professional people I've ever encountered in all of my sunglass shopping. BP is for the masses...
