Paul replaced the lens in glasses I purchased elsewhere free of charge. And this was a difficult job, an acetate pair of Persol Steve McQueen editions with an incredibly precise fit, took many attempts using a special device to heat for pliability. I offered to pay several times but he just doesn't believe in charging for services like this. Another local eyewear store quoted $25, which I would have happily paid, but it sounded like they were going to have some random tech do it using a blowdryer which scared me off. One review for that shop recommended Caserta so that's where I called next. Had a wonderful time chatting about the history of eyewear, perusing a collection of vintage frames (many not for sale), doing projects for movie sets and the like. Have met folks w/ obsessions like this concerning vintage guitars or mid-century furniture, this is a first concerning eyewear and it was a total blast. I mentioned a particularly difficult pair of sunglasses I'm looking for that are not currently in circulation in the US and he took my number and said he'd look through his channels to see if he could find a pair. If anyone is going to do it, it would be someone like this. Also would love to run down some of the vintage frames and find something totally unique around the time of the birth year. I have been getting my glasses from Caserta for more than ten years, ever since I was captivated by some French vintage teal blue frames they had in the window. It took me a while to write this review. When I went here they did not have an eye doctor on staff. Huge mistake on my part to continue as the progressive glasses I paid $600 for did not work. They told me they would rebuild but I had to get a second script from a different doctor. This costs more time, trouble & money. Then, they redid the glasses and guess what they still don't work. But now I am out of options so those glasses have been sitting in my house unused. Total waste of money. Meanwhile took the script to Cohen's Fashion Optical who found out I get a pair of glasses partially covered by my health insurance (who knew) and their progressives work better made with the same script. The lesson here is never again will I buy progressives and never will buy from these stores which essentially are eye glass frame stores. It's all about the frames and after you buy them it's your problem. read more

Stumbled in here after a full day of searching for glasses. The selection was amazing, the three places I visited before combined didn't have the different types of frames they carried. I finally found a pair I was in love with, but wasn't a huge fan of the glossy finish. "No problem," Paul said, "I can sandblast them and make them matte. Come back in a week and I'll have them ready for you." A week later the frames came back, they look amazing, and, best yet, with the styling they're one of a kind. I can't thank these guys enough. This place is awesome for two reasons - the range, and the workmanship. I walked past Caserta when I first moved to New York a few months ago. Instantly the selection of modern and vintage frames made me wish I had a reason to get new glasses. Sure enough a few weeks later my specs broke. Maybe I'm fussy, or maybe my head is a funny shape, but I usually visit a few stores before I find what I want. That wasn't the case here. I found a frame that I loved immediately. They were well priced and Paul turned the prescription around in about four days. When I went in to pick up my new frames, he spent about half an hour adjusting the fit. After a few days of wearing them, I can say it's made a huge difference. No sore eyes, no sore ears, just a pair of specs that fit perfectly and help me avoid the cracks in the sidewalk when I'm getting rad on my skateboard. I can't recommend Paul highly enough. It's always nicer to go for a small business over Sunglass Hut, especially when you end up with a frame you won't find anywhere else. The guy knows what he's doing. read more

Paul is incredibly helpful in all aspects, from finding just the style I wanted (and being tolerant of my indecisive nature), to being very thorough with the prescription and fit, is extremely prompt with the turn around, and even followed up to make sure they were just right the next time I dropped in. One is hard pressed to find good old whole-hearted business in New York these days, and Paul really goes above and beyond. I just picked up my new L.A. Eyeworks frames with progressive lens'. They look great and were finished and on my face in about a week. Go here. Buy your glasses here. You'll be very happy. That's all you really need to know. First, if you're a prescription glasses wearer, the odds are good that you've tried Warby Parker. And been just kind of disappointed. The frames are cute, but when it comes to the lenses (you know, the actual reason you're wearing glasses), they're just not that good. Especially the progressives. Yes, they're cheap, but you get what you pay for. Heavy lenses, serious distortion, etc. So now that you've got WP out of your system, and you actually want to get a really, really great pair of lenses in some very stylish frames, this is your place. Paul is incredibly passionate and knowledgable about everything related to glasses, and he will bend over backwards to get you exactly what you need. He has an amazing stock of frames and will order anything you want. (He picked up the phone and ordered the frames I wanted when I was in the store.) Even better (for me, at least), he makes the progressive lenses himself, and they're really, really great quality (my normal peripheral vision is back!), and the price is totally reasonable (for progressives). So now I can see better, I have my new go-to glasses store, and I'm already getting compliments. read more
