Last time I came to Olive Tree I ordered flatbread (read: pizza) --- LAME. It was good, but kind of boring Last night I went back, this time with my family, and ordered a kofta wrap and it was fantastic! The kofta was great, the greens inside matched nicely, and the aioli was bomb. Everyone else liked their food, too, save my aunt who didn't appear to love her tikka masala bowl, claiming that it was pretty dry. On the downside, the cashiers seemed a little confused when answering questions about the menu. Several of the sodas at the fountain were out. The lights were mostly off, even though it was getting dark, until another customer complained. There were dozens and dozens of dishes heaped on top of the garbage can; based on the slow speed of customer traffic, I'm guessing they'd been there since lunch. Even though we obviously arrived as a group and sat together, our food came out spaced way apart. First my boyfriend got his. 5 minutes later I got mine. 5 minutes later, my mom and aunt's bowls came out. 8 or 9 minutes later, my dad's bowl came out. My final, and relatively minor, beef with service at The Olive Tree is that ketchup is portioned individually into plastic condiment cups. I had to ask for the first one and there was maybe a teaspoon inside. Then I had to go to the counter for more. Why didn't they trust me with the entire bottle, hmmm? I had been the one to suggest The Olive Tree and was feeling a little nervous due to the service, disrepair of the soda fountain, lights, and mess, but almost everyone was so happy with their food that those things became almost a non-issue. I have been here many times. The food is always outstanding! Be adventurous! Everything from simple salads to the falafel wrap, to the bowls, to the tikka masala and other Indian-influenced dishes are so flavorful and always on point. Food is prepared fresh per order, so don't expect to be in and out in 20 min. It's definitely a proper sit-down place, with a bistro-casual ambiance. When I organize events, I often have The Olive Tree cater. They're priced so fairly and we always get lots of compliments on the food! The owner, Aziz, is so kind, generous, and engaging. Ended up ordering the family meal with gyro meat, pittas, Greek salad and tzatziki. Absolutely amazing. We four of us ate till we couldn't eat anymore and there was plenty left for the next day. My first time at this restaurant. Not having been there before, we were confused as to the process, not knowing whether or not there was table service, or whether or not to seat ourselves. We were visibly hesitant, and the wait staff delivering food to a table did their best to ignore us and avoid eye contact, despite our obvious confusion. When we asserted ourselves for some guidance, the wait staff indifferently told us we needed to figure out our own seating arrangement. We sat. She passed by us again, and told us we'd better go to the counter if we wanted food. Okie dokie. Hubby went up to the front to ask if there were menus, as we were reluctant to leave our table since it was the only open table at the time. The wait staff up there eventually noticed him and gave him some menus he could take back to the table. Our food took an hour to arrive. Nothing we ordered could possibly explain such an absurd wait time... especially in a cafe-environment where you order at the counter and they deliver it when it's ready. I wondered if it was because we arrived on an unusually busy day, but as I'm looking at other reviews, I'm realizing it's the norm. Next time I should read the reviews first, so stuff like this wouldn't surprise me as much when it happened. The restaurant was filled as tightly as possible with tables. Personally, I think they should've scaled back the quantity of tables and perhaps they would not have been taking up to an hour per table just to serve them. My next thought: Start offering table service. Then the patrons wouldn't assume that it was a cafe environment and might be less annoyed by the slow food delivery. Additionally, maybe the wait staff would actually care since they'd be working for tips. When patrons left, the wait staff would clean the tables... sort of. Really not that clean, but usable... And as for the chairs, dust off the rice yourself unless you want rice on your pant bottoms. Also make sure you wear decent shoes, but not the type you mind getting rice stuck to the bottom of them. If you wear flip-flops, you may leave with rice on your toes... but not your own rice. There was rice all over the floor (in the walkways, under the tables, everywhere) and there was no effort to clean it up. I'm pretty sure they wait until the end of the day to bother cleaning up the rice. So anyway... the only reason this place still gets some stars is that my food tasted good. But it did need salt. But to that note, my husband told me that his chicken was charred and dry. He said he likes it that way. Pretty sure he's the only person on the planet who would think that, but if you're like him, make sure you order the chicken kebabs. Otherwise, steer clear. He was really disappointed the food did not come with any bread. It screamed for bread... ANY KIND of bread... a pita... a roll, a slice of bread... a mismatched tortilla? He commented that for all the places he'd had similar food it had never been without some bread... Anyway... my best advice: Order ahead... Like maybe an hour before you want your food to be ready. My first time going, My wife and I were checking restaurants to cater our wedding, I believe I had the butternut squash pasta, I don't recall what she had. We both loved it, so much so that we had Olive Tree cater our wedding. At the wedding, the guests RAVED about the food. My dad and I are HUGE fans of gyro's. I'll start by saying I really love the informality of the restaurant. It's really comfortable to have lunch at no matter what kind of attire you wear. I got a classic gyro and rice on the side. The gyro wasn't anything to absolutely rave about, it was kind of boring. But I had a bite of the gyro wrap that my parents got and THAT was worth raving about. Get the wrap, not the classic. Also, the rice had AMAZING flavor. I can't wait to go back and try something new. What a find! Delish Mediterranean in the QC - I couldn't have asked for a better discovery during my recent visit. The Olive Tree is a super cute cafe that offers a bevy of options made with high quality ingredients at reasonable prices. My sister opted for the salmon panini, which she proceeded to rave about; my mom ordered the cranberry and goat cheese salad with the roast beef panini ("tell Yelp I loved it," she said); and I opted for the falafel sammich - which included hot falafel, creamy hummus, balsamic vinegar (I think), tomatoes and lettuce wrapped up in soft flatbread. I left pleasantly full and happy. The owner (at least he seemed to be the owner) walked around to each table to make sure everyone was satisfied with their food. I have been here a few times and everytime, I feel more of a nuisance to their time than a valued customer. Tried this based on some good reviews and found the exact opposite. Poor, slow service and mediocre food. Nothing seemed fresh. After we had ordered and waited 10 minutes our server informed us that part of our order (rice) would be another 20 minutes. The only other person working spent more time crying on the phone about how someone quit than making out order. I understand that being short-staffed is problematic, but alerting us up front about limitations and apologizing for the wait when delivering our food would have gone a long way. read more

The cashier who took my order was NOT helpful. She acted like she hated her job and I was inconvenience ing her. I ordered take out and was my first time. I actually wanted to eat in but 5 minutes after I got my water was told it would be 25 minutes to even get my food. So I got it to go. I'd say this place is just average - not bad, not great. I came here for lunch on a Friday with a friend who works nearby. It is a tucked away location, but parking and seating were plentiful. The menu seemed inflated to me - the kind of menu that lists the same thing 5 different ways - chicken caesar wrap, chicken caesar panini, chicken caesar flatbread, etc. I ended up going with just the regular gyro, which was actually pretty good. The fries were good also, but I swear they drive down the street to McDonald's for them - they are thin, crispy and salty just like McD's fries (my favorite) but they were also COLD. With all of the restaurants to try in the area, I'm not sure I'd come back to this one, but all in all, it was a decent lunch. read more

Try the Sampler Platter, with gyro, salad, hummus & pita bread and grape leaves. SERIOUSLY don't overlook the couscous! Lost one star because their "tzaziki" is crap. Well, I was in Quad cities on business and Yelp-ed for a place to grab lunch and this place popped up. I have always been a fan of greek food from souvlaki to gyros to oysters, so I decided to check it out. They had a selection of Panini's, salads, souvlaki, and of course, gyros amongst other things. I'll say that there are certainly better Greek style restaurants out there in the world, but in Bettendorf, IA? I'd say there is a slim chance of that. Lunch was filling and delicious(I had the gyro and my business partner had the turkey and rosemary panini). The fixins for the meal were a little lacking. The gyro had no feta or lettuce or anything else in there... The atmosphere was quiet and the decor tastefully done with a nice hand-painted mural on the wall of an olive tree. The service was very good, the blond girl was more than helpful in suggesting the most popular items. I'll come back here, three stars is based off the other places I've had Greek food... keep it in perspective. read more

Amazing value. Excellent Mediterranean food, at excellent prices. Nice selection of Greek and med standards, and about 10 bucks a head is a value that can't be beet. I will start off by saying I'm not very experienced with Mediterranean food. That being said, I think the food here is fantastic. The gyro wrap is one of my favorite lunch items in the QCA. Other items on the menu have also been very impressive to me including their Hummus! Where the issue comes is with the staff. Clearly there needs to be a new process for ordering/preparing/serving the food. The staff, although always the same, doesn't seem to have any sense of urgency or care at all during lunch times. The service is really a shame because the rest of the atmosphere is rather pleasant inside the restaurant, just very very poor service. I have continued to go back due to the food but I now call in and order my food in advance and cross my fingers it is ready when I get there. Overall, great food, terrible staff, worth checking out and hoping your experience isn't like the norm as far as service goes, otherwise plan for an hour long lunch best case scenario. read more
