This no frills gyro place is one of my favorites in the quad cities. The food is consistently great , and I believe they have the best steak fries in the area. The service is always on point and friendly. The restaurant is always clean and under the watchful eye of the owner. Visited Uncle Pete's based upon QC recommendations and I was pleasantly surprised. Immediately upon entering I was promptly greeted and saw a menu with a plethora of options. I choose the chicken gyro which was delicious and well seasoned. In a space like this I'd usually ask for extra crispy fries but I wasn't able to modify the fries so I wasn't too thrilled by that. I also got a side of the cheese sauce for the fries too and it would have been so much better if the fries were more crispy but since they weren't it was kinda meh. The chicken gyro itself was great, if order it with extra tzatziki sauce next time as it's really delicious. Overall I'd come back no issues and would recommend them. read more

Fast becoming a QC institution. The things that stand out are: 1. Cleanliness. Clearly keeping things clean is a priority here, and it's noticeable. Something that's not usually present in larger places and chains. I can think of only one other family owned place that is as consistently clean, but they've changed ownership. The kitchen area is visible and spotless. People really appreciate this, even if they may not notice at the time. 2. Good, reasonably priced food. While their gyros can't be beat and are made just right, the menu features a range of other items and they're all good, particularly their grilled burgers. The gyros are delicious and something I crave from time to time. Meat perfectly seasoned and done on the rotisserie and sliced thin and fresh, tomatoes, onion, soft and delicious pita, and my favorite, the tzatziki sauce with cucumber, greek yogurt, garlic and spices. Pairs so great with the gyro. Chris the owner is a great manager, his staff moves fast and does a great job and unlike other places, actually seem happy to be there. They have a friendly attitude and are on the ball. Wait times are very small. I've been enjoying Uncle Pete's since they were at the mall and they've done things right all along. Uncle Pete was a comforting fixture at the strip mall location, holding down the back table, and every time I went he was talking to a friend or customer. I just witnessed some phenomenal service at Uncle Pete's, today. Carissa took my order, and I was struck by how friendly and helpful she was with me, but what really impressed me was her above and beyond actions with another customer. He accidentally threw his keys in the trash (I think he had them on his tray when he dumped it). She handled the gross situation with grace and a smile and literally dumpster dived to retrieve them for him (and the trash was over half full of garbage ). Then she had the forethought to not only wash his keys, but to be mindful of not getting his remote wet while doing so. People like to pick on our youngest generation for their lack of social skills, but here was a young Millennial showing what awesome customer service looks like! Fairly decent Greek food for the Quad Cities. Uncle Petes has been around for quite some time and my grandfather wanted to try it from an article he read in the newspaper about the restaurant. It's a fast-casual type place where you order at the counter and they call out a number for you to come pick up your food. Cheap prices! Plenty of food for each dish/meal. A definite place to visit if you're looking for gyros. I got their regular gyro. It was well seasoned and very large. They sell a larger version, which I can't even imagine how big that would be! I wish they had a smaller version (and lower priced) so I could have gotten one of their sides or possibly the baklava. So I'm from out of town visiting family and stopped here for a quick lunch. Wow this place is bad, I wasn't expecting to be blown away but I don't get how this place is even open. I just got a normal gyro meal that was super bland. The meat is definitely frozen store bought shit, which I understand for the price point; but the tzatziki sauce is just terrible. The owners of this place need to eat at a real Greek place in Chicago and see how to make something worth eating. I am born and raised in the Quad Cities, in all fairness many people I know rave about Uncle Pete's, however, it seems to always be subpar to me. However, this review isn't for the food, in fact, this review should be solely viewed as a professional review of the unprofessionalism I witnessed this evening by an employee of this establishment. I was hungry tonight but couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted to eat, and then I thought... Uncle Pete's, as it had been a while since I had went there. Mind you, I had no clue on their hours, but I strolled in at 7:45pm, they close at 8pm. I walk up to the counter and the nice woman behind the counter asks me for my order and all is going smoothly. Then, during me making the payment, the nice lady asks, "will you be dining in or take out?" To which I reply, "It doesn't matter, I suppose I can eat here." (Mind you- I still don't know they close at 8pm)... then she suddenly realized it was close to 8pm and loudly asks the "crew" are we still allowing people to dine in, and abruptly a man with dark hair turns around and says, "No." Now, in this moment I realize that they must be closing soon and say, "oh, that's fine, didn't know when you guys closed." And the man just looked at me like yeah- your taking it to go buddy. This was "weird and somewhat unprofessional" in and of itself... but it wasn't until I was about to leave that this man's personality really made me see that he isn't acting in a professional manner- so, as I am leaving the phone rings- it must be like 7:55pm and the nice lady answers the phone and it's someone wanting to place an order... immediately that man, while this customer is on the phone says, No, we are done for the night. Now, in my professional opinion, customer service goes a very long way... and given that I was standing in front of them they could have said, sure- you can eat here as our guests and then told everyone no more dine-in... also, they could have taken that last phone call and said no more call in orders afterwords.... But they didn't, each time it was done in a whats best for an employee trying to get off work as soon as possible manner and ultimately leaving me to feel awkward in the midst of the situation and at least 1 customer who wanted to eat their food left not being able to- even though the order was being placed before they close. Long story short... go the extra mile for the customer because that's what creates a lasting impression across a community and residual customers long term. I think it should be said that this behavior I witnessed may not be a daily occurrence ... but it was certainly blatant enough for me to take 5 minutes to write the review. read more

The Gyro meat is cooked on a spit as it should be. Then they put it in a pan. I was there last night and my Gyro was all dried out. I called the store and the girl that answered didn't want to admit that the Gyro Meat( There Namesake after all} was microwaved. So after it's cooked they recook the gyro meat in the microwave. I have had hundreds of Gyro sandwiches none were microwaved meat when it is cut off the spit. When I commented about dried-out gyro meat, her comment was that they are too busy to serve it off the spit. FYI this was at 7:00 PM ....3 customers in the store. So even when they are not busy, they do not care to serve their gyro meat when it is at its best! I was shocked to this lack of care in their namesake product. read more

When I lived in the QCs years ago, we would come here for lunch every now and then. Recently I was back in the area for business and when I was naming off the lunch options nearby, a colleague chose Uncle Pete's. I was excited as I remembered how good it was years ago. The building looks different as they expanded. You order at the counter and then they call your number. I'm a rebel and always get a cheeseburger basket. The gyros are great, I just love their burgers! They are grilled, which means they aren't soaked in grease when you get them. The food is always fresh, and the steak fries are legit! Wait time is usually no more than 10 min, and you can call ahead for both dine in and carry out. The staff is usually very nice. I'd completely forgotten about Uncle Pete's. My parents got the family takeout from Uncle Pete's for the better part of two decades when we lived in the Quad Cities. With our longtime loyalty in mind, I felt like a traitor the first time I got a gyro somewhere else. And I'll take the Benedict Arnold thing one step further: after trying many more gyros from many different establishments, I can't fall back on Uncle Pete's as my go-to Greek place. The meat seemed overdone more often than not. Prices were always good, though, and the steak fries were excellent. I also got a kick out of watching the family working behind the counter there. I am new to the Quad Cities and have made it my mission to get more places reviewed on yelp. Seriously city - we are like four years behind the times here. Anyways, on a coworkers recommendation I checked out Uncle Petes. It is A-OK with me. The prices are reasonable and the gyro was delicious. For I think $7 and change you get about 10 lbs of food- good fries, another side, and the gryo. The only comment I will make (and it's a personal preference) they put a lot of sauce on the gyro. ALOT. Oh and I think I read something online that was negative regarding the owner and counter help. I can only report everyone was polite and respectful - the 'to go' small soda that the owner threw in gratis was appreciated. It made the car ride home bearable. read more

20 years ago, we lived in the quad cities while I was attending college and we discovered Uncle Pete's gyros. We came from the Detroit area and we were used to eating Greek food very regularly, but when we arrived in the quad cities we found that Greek food was hard to come by. Thank God we discovered Uncle Pete's wayback then and this great place turned into a regular place for us. I remember Pete sitting in one of the booths and the restaurant always greetings you when you walked in the door and watching to make sure that you were enjoying the food. He was a very, very nice man. Well, today we found ourselves in the quad cities while traveling Westward and we got the idea to see if Uncle Pete's was still around. I was so happy to not only see that it was still around, but that they had built a new location since the last time we ate there back in 2003 and that it was rocking out the same great food. We actually met Pete's son, who runs this great place and had a great conversation with this very nice man. The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree! The gyros where big, moist, and delicious and they still have those beautiful, great big french fries that they had years ago. I have been going to Pete's for well over 20 years and it the best place for my buddies to get a gyro. The staff is always great and serves them up hot and delicious. I've even had a chance to have a gyro at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens and it had nothing on Pete's. read more

Where is it? Avenue of the Cities in Moline, IL. Across the street from the King Plaza in its own new dedicated building. Built within the last 2 years. Moved from their location further down the avenue that was across from Hy-Vee. The Decor. The new restaurant features generous seating with a neutral colored decor and brand new tables, chairs... well everything - lol. The food is made just down the counter from where you order and the smell of gyros fills the place. Authors note: I miss the little restaurant they had that seemed to have a unique "feel" to it. Maybe this new one will win me over. Staff. Pete's son Chris runs this Greek family establishment and is very hands on. You'll see him taking orders or making food from time to time. The staff has always been pretty friendly and in the new location you might find yourself waiting in line to get an order in, but are always met by a pleasant smile. Food. Greek. I recommend the Greek Salad for those wanting something light but filling. Otherwise you'd better order yourself a Gyro. Lots of sauce and onions to keep your mouth happy. I've had gyros up in Chicago and these get pretty darn close. Do the basket and get a side of steak fries and you'll be good to go and full when you leave. Gryos not your thing? They've got other sandwiches too including hamburgers and such so bound to be something you'll like. Cleanliness. New store, very clean. What can we say. I will admit that the old store did have a "lived in" feel to it with aging paneling and furniture. This new store is fresh and clean and if the small size of the old Pete's kept you from going back, the new place is roomier and well kept up. Pricing: Slowly but surely prices at Pete's have been rising. I think a gyro basket these days goes for $8.50. There are other gyro shops in the Quad Cities but for some reason Pete's gives you a lot more meat and dresses their gyro well. Worth the slightly higher price you'd pay at a competitor. Overall. Until we moved our store to Davenport, I enjoyed regular meals from Pete's in Moline. The restaurant is clean. The service is good. The gyros are great. You can eat under $10. Steak fries- 3 out of 5 Gyro Meat- 4 out of 5 Italian Beef Sandwich - negative 14 out of 5 I know, it might sound silly to say, but don't order anything other than the Gyro here. Everything else is pretty tasteless. I added hot sauce, salt and pepper, and dunked it in the au jus like crazy.. still not taste. Was rough, couldn't finish it. I did have their tenderloin a couple times. Not too bad, still, not very flavorful. Steak fries are THICK cut, sometimes too mushy for me. I like my steak fries a little more crisp. (I get it.. they are supposed to be thick and mushy. I am just weird.) The meat in the gyros is inconsistent, I've found. At times it is very flavorful, other times not at all. I heard this place used to be amazing 5-10 years ago, but after the son took over that it has gone down hill. read more
