We've been sleeping on this restaurant! I have had it a few times over the years, and it's always been a decent experience. This week we decided to order dinner through Grub Hub, and we were seriously impressed with how the menu has evolved! I've been tossing around the idea of moving back to Iowa, but the only way I'd ever do it is if I can move to an area that has a good falafel spot. The Olive Tree definitely delivers. This falafel bowl was loaded with leafy greens, rice, salad, hummus, and baba ganoush. There were even some olives in there too. The falafel was crisp on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. This is an incredible meal (vegan without feta) that will only cost you about $8.50 before tax. The menu is massive, and you're sure to find something you like whether you're well versed or new to Mediterranean cuisine. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They will answer any questions you may have and recommend good dishes based on your preferences. The lighting is pretty dim though and its kind of hard to see the food. Thats really the only negative thing I can say. This place is awesome read more

I was very impressed with not only the food at Olive Tree but the service as well. Staff are very accommodating to allergies and dietary restrictions. They help you navigate the menu and answer all your questions. I had ordered a salad due to a gluten allergy I have and the chef brought me a bowl of other gluten free food in addition to my salad so I could try it. Today was the first day of me joining a new team. My old manager wanted to order me doordash for lunch to celebrate me having been on the team for the past 1.5 years. They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions since they make many dishes from scratch. While one of my orders had something I couldn't eat, the owner was able to fix that by giving me another dish. It was very nice and generous of them. When I went to pick it up, he was extremely friendly, kind, and apologetic for the mix up. He even decided to add a few extra things in there to make the dish taste good. Honestly, he reminded me of my dad, who owns a small vegetarian restaurant in Atlanta. Extremely hardworking, dedicated, and kind to customers. Aside from this, I am really happy with the dish! The cauliflower rice with eggplant, butternut squash, asparagus, roasted bell peppers, mushroom, and fried egg taste great! I really enjoyed it. When I moved to the QC in 2016, I tried Olive Tree a couple of times and was severely disappointed as where I had moved from, Peoria, has several very good Mediterranean restaurants. I recently decided to give them another shot, June 2021. Have been 3 times here recently, and have had mixed results. The falafel has vastly improved since 2016, which is a major highlight, as it's the only place in the QC doing falafel of any type, that I can find. The Gyro is passable, it's like they need to brown/crisp it on the flat top more, gyro meat needs to be a little bit browned to really make the flavors pop, otherwise it's just really one note and kinda greasy. The chicken shawarma is decent, but suffers from the same thing as the gyro. It's really saucy, with no browning at all. The kofta shawarma is good, but the sauce that is on it is weirdly sweet, and it would be better without it. Kofta really shouldn't need a sauce, it's supposed to be well seasoned. Their menu seems a little strange though. They have a "specials menu" which is mainly pita sandwiches and or wraps. A panini menu, which is exactly what you'd expect, pressed sandwiches. Then a bowls menu, which is basically instead of a pita or a wrap, it's the contents of the sandwich on a bed of rice. Then they have a platters menu, which seem to be the bowls menu, except you get more condiments. Every other place that I have gotten a "gyro platter" it's the basically a build your own gyro sandwiches: gyro meat, onion, tomato, tzatziki, usually served with a side (rice, hummus, fries, or other), and a couple of pitas. If that's what you're expecting, don't order the platter. Because you basically get the gyro bowl with diced tomato and onions for an upcharge. read more

Fresh, fresh, fresh.... Everything was wonderful!!! I've always been a fan of spanakopita, but even more so now; best I've ever had. I know they CUT hours due to lack of employees during COVID, but I just tried again today and same results. Extremely slow serves. If you're only given an hour window for lunch, anticipate being late if you plan on eating here during your break. Walked in at 12:15 waited in line until about 12:25 to place my order. It's now 1:10 and I still haven't received my food. There is there bike delivery guy here that looks like he's been waiting just as long as I have to delivery a customer's food. I doubt the bike delivery guy will get much of a tip. Went for lunch with the family. We ordered 2 gyros and 2 salads. We waited for 25 minutes and still no food. The couple that ordered just before me got thier food, ate, and left.. while we still didn't receive our food for another 3 minutes and that is no stretch of the imagination. I was in the area and came across what seemed like a promising med restaurant in Iowa (which are hard to come by) but after calling them 5 times in the span of 30mins to get takeout, my calls went unanswered. I appreciated the options, though, and thoroughly enjoyed my "pick two" choice with Tomato Basil Soup and the Classic Mix Salad, which came with warm pita slices. The highlight of our meal was the hummus appetizer, which we ordered with the red pepper, onion and feta topping. Yum! The service was acceptable, although the dirty dish container (you clear your own items) was overflowing nearly to the point of spilling. I love this business. The food is amazing, healthy, and very filling. The Mediterranean bowl is my favorite and I get it pretty often. They never disappoint! Stopped here for lunch on the way back to Iowa City from Chicago. The location isn't too far off the interstate which made it a fairly convenient location to eat. It's in a small strip mall across the street from a gas station. There is ample parking and they had a few tables outside as well, but to be honest I think you'd be better off sitting inside unless you really like views of parking lots. It's a fairly small space inside. You order at the counter and your food gets brought out to your table. It's not the quickest service, but not particularly slow either. I probably wouldn't eat here on a time crunch but we were probably here less than an hour total so it wasn't bad. The menu is pretty large and they have salads, wraps, sandwiches, gyros, etc which are pretty reasonably priced for the size. I got the chicken pesto panini which was about $9 but for lunch could've probably fed two people. My only complaint is that it could have used a little more time in the panini press but it was still a delicious sandwich. The chicken was nicely seasoned and the vegetables were fresh.
