Wow! I did not know the Portuguese loved garlic so much. From the moment when you walk in you know you are in for a garlic delight. I tried the garlic soup as I've never seen this on a menu anywhere. And it did not disappoint. Very smooth and mellow garlic and egg in a milk based broth. My entree was a delightful combination of veal and seafood all swimming around a bowl of tasty sauce. Served with a side of yellow rice. The portion size was large enough that I had to take some home. But trust me it probably won't last past midnight. While on the way home, our travels took us to Farmingham, NY. Its a hidden gem (to us) on Long Island. This gem is in a small strip mall with reasonable parking. It's a smallish place with a lot of charm with good food. We were seated and given the specials by our server. The interesting thing was we tried to look at the board to see the specials again, they were in Portugese! Obviously, we had the server repeat the specials since we are not able to interpret the list. First item placed on your table are olives. Then a basket of bread with pats of butter. I am not an olive person, usually. However, these are by far the tastiest little morsels I've had the pleasure of eating. I don't know how they prepare them, but they are delicious. Then we ordered dinner. Be prepared to be overwhelmed. I order the Mariscada com Molho Verde (seafood in green sauce). Not sure what I was getting or what's in the sauce, but it's only one meal. Take a leap of faith. It was more than I could have expected. This was one of the best meals to get if you like seafood. Shrimp, mussels, scallops, and half a lobster. It arrives in a large cast iron casserole dish doused in a sauce full of flavor albiet green. Green Schmeen it was delectable. You won't leave hungry! SO ordered Mariscada a "Ole"; seafood in a red sauce. There had to be at least a half pound of shrimp plus another half pound of scallops with mussels, then the half lobster. Use that bread to dip in the sauce. Yes, this gem is well worth visiting. TV shows the news in Portugese. Servers were pleasant gentlemen who enjoyed chatting with the regulars. This eatery is literally divided into two parts a bar sectioned off by a door and a restaurant. The restaurant is homey and well lit. There were eight of us and there was no problem accommodating us with space on all sides. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and I relied on our waiter for my entree choice. He was spot on. I ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer and the paelha marinheira with the spaghetti on the side. IF - and I hope you can - overcome how the calamari look when brought to the table, you will be in for a gastronomic treat! My suggestion, close your eyes and let your tastebuds decide! As for the entire, there is only one thing to say: EXQUISITE. My wife did like her spaghetti but considering the entire is to be served with rice, I would not complain at all. I tasted flan for the first time and if all flan tasted this good, I am sorry I missed out for so many years! This eatery will become our go to place for Portoghese food. Take Aways 1. Last weekend my BF and I decided we wanted to try a local Portuguese restaurant. I had seen excellent reviews for Ole on Horse Block Road in Farmingville so that is where we went. We were blown away. What an amazing gem turned out to be. On the table, to start, they put some delicious bread and a plate full of yummy garlicky olives. For our entrées my BF got Lagosta con Champagne, which was described as lobster cooked in a casserole with shrimp, scallops and clams. I ordered Paelha Marinheira which was lobster clams, scallops, shrimp, mussels, and rice also in a casserole pot. The first thing we couldn't get over is the unbelievable amount of seafood in each one of these pots. My dish was $27 and his was $38. With the amount of seafood in these dishes, I easily would've expected it to be almost double. Both of our dishes were absolutely delicious. It was almost amusing to to see us eat our dinners with the amount of happy noises, smiles, laughs, and endless compliments about the food. When we were done, we had eaten a ridiculous amount of food and yet we each took home enough to have another meal. In fact, he asked for an additional tuperware like container for the sauce that was in his dish. It end up filling two of containers. He is going to use that sauce to cook some seafood at home. We finished off the dinner by sharing a delicious chocolate mousse. The staff was so lovely and welcoming. They talked to us about Portugal and about what the various paintings in the room represented. It was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long time and I go out to dinner a lot lol. What a wonderful little neighborhood gem of a restaurant! Visiting on a work trip, we stumbled on Ole for dinner. We do not have any Portuguese restaurants where I live out west, so this was a treat. We were warmly welcomed and taken care of. Water, bread and some savory olives arrived at our table to start. Ole provided a pleasant evening for me and my wife, just a walk away from where we live. The establishment was a bit dated, so I'm in agreement with others who have commented on this detail. Yet the food and service was spot on. The taste was excellent and the prices reasonable. If you check out my pics, I had the Beef Ole and had to leave the restaurant on a stretcher 'cuz I couldn't walk afterwards. My wife had the pork loin special, which was quite delicious! I tasted it and it made me wish I had two stomachs. Although, my wife did find it to be just a tad salty. I thought it was perfect, personally; it truly is a matter of taste. The waiter was great and there when you needed him. And, actually, one great aspect about the establishment is that because it is a relatively small size in the dining area (there is a second "walk-in/bar" component to this restaurant right next to the dining area) service is lighting fast! Anywho... yes, I totally recommend this place for you and yours. I only took out a star because the ambiance wasn't exactly "chic;" they could dig into this component of the business to make dining more of an enjoyable experience. One of my favorite go to restaurants for pick up when I am craving a home-cooked meal but don't feel like cooking. Their steak (we get extra mushrooms) is so delicious and big enough to split! We love the potatoes and veggies for sides but the rice is also great. We got bread, which was also tasty. Prices are very reasonable. $20 for a delicious steak dinner for two is a treat. I came here in a Monday evening for an early dinner with my co-workers (6 of us). We ended up staying for about 2 hours but the food was so worth the wait and there was so much of it that we all ended up sharing like family style. I got some kind of seafood soup with rice. It literally has half a lobster in it and tons of clams and shrimp and scallops and meat! The sauce was so flavorful that even after the meat was gone and rice was gone, we all dipped our bread to soak up what we could. This restaurant has been around for a long time in Farmingville NY, we live in the area but it's only in the last couple of years that we have eaten there, what a mistake of now having gone sooner. They have a bar area and a dining room that needs a little more atmosphere but the food is so delicious you forget about it and just enjoy what you have ordered. As soon as you sit, they bring nice crusty Portuguese bread and marinated olives, so yummy. I usually order pork and clams, my favorite, chunks of pork in a garlic sauce with the most incredulous fried cubes of potatoes, again yummy. My husband this time ordered spaghetti with beef stew, again lots of beef in a light tomato stew sauce. Portions are large, enough for two meals more at home. Sangria, red, full flavored red wine and lots of fruit. Check the menu and you will not regret going there. Service is professional and he let us take our time eating. This restaurant was fantastic! The food is super fresh and a a huge variety, it is reasonably priced and the service impeccable. Also, the portions are massive, an appetizer was entree size. I went with my family this evening, there are four of us. My husband had the mussels followed by Portuguese beef for a main, I had octopus plus the grilled shrimp. Everything was excellent, most of the dishes are grilled so the natural flavour comes through the food, everything is served with dries or vegetables, rice and bread. The food is very well made and nearly as good as what I ate in Lisbon and Cascais. The veal and seafood stew was nice; the veal was like butter. The service was fast and friendly, the paella I ordered was problem most different I've ever had, the flavors were on point and it was not short of a medley of yummy seafood including lobster. Walked into this place and found it filled with family and smiles. Sat down and was served olives and bread. The olives are small but tasty. I like mine a little bigger though. The hubby got seafood soup and it was not great. It kinda tastes like chicken soup but instead of chicken there was seafood. We got the muscles in red sauce and clams in green sauce. I thought the muscles were okay. My husband enjoyed the clams but they were a little bitter for my taste. Still fun appetizers to eat before dinner. I got the seafood casserole and it was popping!
