SAE TO SAY GOODBYE - been going here since the 90s - so have my friends. got there about 11am when they open. my friends scrambled eggs werent scrambled but they were cold - like from last night. her sauseges were like rocks. She asked for extra butter - it never came. She asked for coffee and they had to make a pot. Had to go ask 2nd time for juice-she said"oh it is on the counter but we got busy". there were 2 people for take out and one sad mentally ill person at a table. later on another unwell person walked in with a parrot on his shoulder and bird poop running down the guys arm. He ordered nothing. We told the staff that was disgusting in a restaurant & their answer was "people come in here w/ their dogs". Hamburger was so sad with zero flavor, chicken gyro w fries didn't even have onions on it and was just chicken w lettuce and tomato and ZERO flavor. The pita it came with was stale also. This place used to be so awesome and consistent with flavorful food and now it's not. Sadly, I won't be back. The cooks are not set up for success, bottom line. I've been to Venus many times and can say without a doubt it is my fav Greek restaurant in NY. Maybe anywhere?! The menu is extensive and everything is delicious. My favorites are the pork souvlaki, the avgolemono soup, and the spanakopita. Delicious and large Greek salads too. I LOVE their tzatziki - idk what crack they put in it but I could drink the stuff. The Venus Greek Restaurant has been around a long time in a popular shopping center on Fort Salonga Road, which is Route 25A. We go there for breakfast on Sunday mornings. It is a quieter spot than many others in the area. There was no wait for a table, and we are always warmly welcomed. We ordered the breakfast special of 2 eggs, bacon, toast and home fries...the juice and coffee is included. The price was $11.45. The noise level is low. I heard about Venus from a Greek coworker a long time ago and today was the day I finally ordered. I will definitely be going back. I ate the gyro platter all 11 pounds of it lol my only complaint is that there was more vegetables than rice. I would of preferred of a more perfect combination. The lamb and chicken were both Perfectly cooked with their juices seeping down into the rice creating a perfect au jus for dipping the pita bread into. They also give plenty of tzatziki, so don't bother asking for extra. I couldn't tell you how the salad was maybe tomorrow after lunch I'll update my post. The ambience in this place is that of a basic family restaurant but don't be fooled- this is world class Greek food! Their gyro meat is *to die for* and their grilled pita manages to taste like a darned doughnut without the calories. I don't normally eat desserts but their rice pudding is not to be missed- it's the best I've ever had and they serve you a mountain of it in an ice cream sundae dish. After re-visiting venus on many different occasions - choosing different food every time, I have found a new love for them :) The chicken kebab is seasoned wonderfully and is never overcooked or underdone. I was so disappointed with my recent Oder from Venus. I have recommended this restaurant to many people and I will no longer do so. I ordered the luncheon moussaka and it was horrible. They used to put the salad separately today it was in the pan with the smallest piece of moussaka I ever saw. They also included under cooked potatoes which tasted so bad. I have ordered this before and it was delicious - this time the food was inedible. We also ordered a hamburger deluxe with everything lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle and cole slaw - well when we got home it was just a plain hamburger with nothing on it but they did include fries. I am so disappointed with the food today. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants but I doubt if I will go back there for a long while. read more

The food was so delicious. Everything tasted homemade. They had the most incredible soups. The chick pea soup and lentil soup was incredible. As was their spinach casserole. VENUS IS MY FOREVER JAM. If I could have inserted 'clapping' emojies after each of those words, I would have. I've been coming to Venus since I was a kid. I don't live in the area anymore, but whenever I am passing through I ALWAYS stop by for the essentials: giant Greek salad topped with more feta than your cholesterol would like and the dressing (which is homemade and wildly better than any other Greek dressing I've had), fried pita, tzatziki sauce, and lemon rice soup. Lemon rice is my favorite, but their chicken orzo and lentil are equally incredible. Honestly, much of the wait staff have been there for several years and they are always delightful, cheery and quick with service. 10/10 recommend 365 days a year read more

I'm too a little perplexed by negative reviews. I mean they have stayed in business forever. It's bigger inside than I thought from seeing it from the outside. When I walked in I waited at the counter to be seated there was a young girl by the register who was ignoring me, a couple came in behind me and sat down so I did too, I guess it's seat yourself, OK. The waitress who helped me was very friendly. I just wanted a quick lunch so I ordered the chicken soup with rice, egg, & lemon. It was a bowl rather than cup and a generous size portion. The soup was creamy, lemony and quite delish!!!! I loved it! Got my check went back to the counter to pay and the same young girl was at the register she asked without looking at me in a tone of voice that didn't seem to care "how was everything?" I guess I didn't answer quick enough so now she said it again and glared at me...what? I told her it was good, paid and left. That was the only negative. I've been here 4 times and like a previous reviewer said, This place is spotless clean..Now for the food..Great Greek salads, Gyros, Pastitsio is all wonderful. The salads are packed with stuffed grape leaves (which I love). I never tried the Hamburgers, but this guy next to me commented at the counter how awesome it was.I don't know how a burger can be that great but I thought it was worth noting here because someone here Yelped her burger tasted like an old shoe, which can't be true. Kind of a mean spirited thing to say too. As far as service, I think the counter woman are great. Always super friendly and funny. I met the owner one evening and we got to chatting while I was waiting for my takeout and he just gave me two big portions of rice pudding for free. (and it was really good). Without question the most underrated burger in the area. The burgers from this place are unbelievable. They are huge and taste great. I take this over almost any other burger in te area (Rockin' Fish being the best). The fries are great as well. The staff is very nice, and the turnaround is very quick.
