I don't know why this place only has 3.5 stars. Every time I've been here the ingredients are fresh. The place is clean and the employees are quick and friendly. I usually get a taco salad. But today I got a chicken taco. I wasn't that hungry and needed something to get me through until dinner. It was early in the day and they were prepping. The place was pristine and the food was carefully being prepared. The plus is their open late too. read more

I've stopped by 3 times now and haven't had a single bad experience; safe to say, ole ole burrito express has solidified itself as one of my go to spots in the immediate uptown area. For the price, the portions are very very generous. Usually when a spot has generous portions there's a lot of filler but not at ole ole burrito express. All three burritos I had were filled with protein and they were big hefty burritos. Not to mention your order will come with tortilla chips as well. While I will admit the burritos themselves don't have much flavor, the salsa provided makes up for it. Also sometimes I'm just looking for something simple that I can eat more regularly so ole ole burrito express fulfills that role for me. The ingredients always taste fresh and the burritos are really hot to the touch. The burritos I got were the VIP breakfast burrito, super surf and turf burrito, and chicken al pastor regular burrito. The staff have always been friendly towards me but I also see them being friendly to other customers as well as just regular people who stop by to ask question. I feel very welcome in the space. read more

Craving a breakfast burrito, we stopped by around 11 AM and were happy to find no line. We ordered the California burrito and the egg and carne asada burrito--both were delicious. The portions are generous and easily shareable for two. The person working on Tuesday morning (4/7) was super friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

There are kiosks here. If there is a large line to order with the humans, you can use machines instead. You don't have to worry about a person standing in front of you while you decide whether you want to leave a tip. It's pretty easy to get a tip from me. If the person taking my order sounds friendly, I'll tip. I almost hope they're not friendly so I don't feel obliged to tip. I'll also tip out of fear. If the person taking my order is saying, "how are you", but their eyes are saying, " I couldn't care less about your existence", I'll tip. I'll tip in hopes they don't do anything bad to my food. I think that's why Chipotle is so popular, you can see them make your food. Don't need to worry about any foul play. Anyway, I ordered the veggie burrito from the kiosk. It was pretty good. read more

The philly cheesesteak is not a common order for me.. But if I told you this is the way I eat all the time I'd totally have this a few times a month. It was good but its sooooo rich and heavy... I regretted having it but it was good. The ambiance is sorta sketchy cuz its lightweight in a ghetto area.. I paid on the touch screen which is okay.. Not the best but it is easy when u dont want to deal with people... I just hope the cooks change their aprons because they look superrrrrr dirty! read more

VEGAN REVIEW Thanks to my Yelp buddy John for flagging this totally random & amazingly delicious Mexican spot! Around the corner from the New Parkway. Great separate vegan menu. I had a burrito with vegan carne asada & it was INCREDIBLE!!!! Total hole in the wall ambiance-- like all the best burrito spots Order at kiosks. The staff are friendly if you have questions or special requests. read more

I recently discovered Ole Ole and was so happy to see an entire vegan menu! I've gone there several times and the vegan menu is really good and the portions are pretty big! Thank you for having so many delicious vegan options :) My favorite remains Rico Rico Vegano, but Ole Ole is my second favorite and is really dope for if you need a meal later at night! I think the only thing lacking would be a vegan flan :D read more

These are what I would call "emergency tacos"--you need something to eat and it's nearby and cheap. Otherwise all the meats are wet and soggy, or very dry. Sometimes dry, yet soggy with whatever juice/sauce it's in. No pork. First time I've ever seen BBQ beef as an option. The service is fine and fairly quick. Atmosphere is utilitarian. They don't offer dining in as an option so you end up with lots of packaging that gets tossed. read more

Horrible customer service. During ordering I asked if they serve red cubed chicken. I was told yes. I started ordering a burrito and said let me the classic without beans but with cheese and sour cream. I get home and my burrito is missing chicken and cheese. I called and said the burrito is missing the meat and cheese. He says you ordered the classic which doesn't come with meat. The regular burrito comes with meat. I said why didn't clarify after I said classic burrito that it doesn't come with meat since I inquired about the type of chicken you served. I said who names a burrito a classic burrito if it doesn't come with meat. He said I'm not a psychic I can't read your mind... I was pissed off to say the least. That's why your at the register and will forever be there because you're lazy as hell. Not getting my money again! read more

Been coming to this location for years. And I go here once or twice a week! The new management is good and some of the changes in the menu is interesting (I still miss the pork though). The prices had gone up, and I am cool with that. But today the size of my Super burrito is dramatically smaller! If I am spending almost 15 dollars for a burrito, I want to see a bit of heft. I hate to say it but if I see the same person ( will not name or describe) making burrito, i'll just walk out. Or maybe I'll just pizza across the street. read more

It's great. I love the chile verde tacos very much. They were really nice when I accidentally made a mistake and wanted to change it half of the way. The looks of the restaurant may be average but they still had a good workplace that delighted me when I sat down. read more

Not the worst Mexican food I've had but it's up (down?) there. It's what the kids are calling "mid". Probably good after a night out if nothing else is open. We did order off DoorDash so maybe the food is better fresh. Leaving 2 stars because I didn't get sick from the food, and they have extensive vegan options. I personally will not rate a place under 2 stars if they meet these standards. The vegan Thai tea was good Flautas were burnt af and they were skimping on the lettuce and sour cream Super quesadilla was genuinely just a grilled burrito. i hated it. it just tasted really bland and oily. like gas station food. my partner ate it all, she is less picky than me. i asked her and she said she'd rate the food a 3.5/5 stars. read more

Vegan burrito: they warm up the tortilla on the same grille where they cook regular meat, the jack fruit bbq tasted sour and no flavor, very little amount in burrito, too much onion was used in cooking. The worst burrito I have ever had, and sadly, I've had a lot of mediocre burritos up and down California since COVID. The meat was barely cooked, and tasted both unflavored and old. To be fair, the taco I ordered was okay, but I'm pleasantly surprised I didn't wake up with food poisoning. I am not exaggerating. Could have just been a bad night, and I get that restaurants are struggling since the pandemic with costs ant quality ingredient sourcing, but good lord, there are public school lunches with more flavor and less feeling of risking continuing to eat. read more

Ok first off, the manager is super cool. Today was my first day coming here and guess what.. THEY HAVE MULTIPLE VEGAN OPTIONS! The manager allowed me to try some of the vegan meet before I made my final decision. I decided to order the vegan steak was amazing as well as a jackfruit taco and a side of rice. (You can ask for a crunchy shell or soft tortilla). Some of these options are soy based though so I would definitely ask first. I ended up dining in. The atmosphere is pretty cool. Jackfruit taco - 5/5 loved the seasoning Steak - 5/5 can't go wrong with vegan steak. Very flavorful Rice - 4/5 it was kind bland read more

I was craving some Mexican and saw this option on doordash. It was a bit on the pricier end so I was expecting it to be a big serving. Although, it was delivered quick, I was honestly really disappointed. For a $16 super burrito, I expected it to be bigger and tastier. I finished it without struggling (usually I have to push myself to finish a super burrito). I got the al pastor and carne asada super burrito and it came a bit dry. Barely any sour cream, no guac (just avocado bits lol?), no cheese if any. No salsa included. Flavor was definitely lacking. I've had much better for much cheaper. read more

Consistent quality service and food. Friendly and efficient. Ordered with Snackpass kiosk. So simple and straightforward. Easy to navigate and less likely to get orders incorrect. High quality steak with great flavor. Beautiful open face presentation. Service is five star here always. Never a bad experience - all the people working here are pleasant and hard working. Building itself has high ceilings and plain interior - the food does the talking not some bright or kitchy cute decor. A few oil paintings on the wall. Dining room may or may not be open. Ole Ole has an extensive vegan menu, but to be honest, I usually end up ordering their vegan rice & beans. I think their rice is SO good I don't want anything else getting in the way of its flavor or texture. While friends have enjoyed their vegan nachos, tacos, & burritos I am always happy with my rice & beans. Or just the rice! Easy to order when you're in the restaurant at one of their machines or at the counter. Inside there are plenty of tables to choose from. Bright lights & clean interior as well. If you want to take it to go, that option is always available. read more

Honestly, this place has some of the best food in the entire area. If you like vegan options or a plant-based diet, I highly recommend it. I'm mostly plant based, so I go here quite often. Pencilstache at the cash register is rude as hell. Like bro, I gotta repeat how many times that I don't want cilantro? Also considering I've come here for years, it's..... odd. Like almost every single time, it's been known no cilantro. I literally have a track record of loathing it, and requesting it not be added. Bruh. I could've handled him hearing me say multiple times no cilantro, since maybe he didn't hear me from my mask, but even clarifying "Nah, no cilantro, I freaking hate cilantro, man haha" somehow didn't get through to him. Nope. Bro was about to ring me up like "Three steak tacos, rice, cilantro and hot sauce." Somehow he heard "onions" from... "I hate cilantro".... Then he got super fed up and huffy at me, like damn near seething. As if I'm the one who made a mistake? Then the nerve to make remarks about me to the (cute) cook as well, right in front of me? Like bro I've been nice to you. Sorry to come in late for an order, but just say no more orders, or something. Oh no, how oppressed you are, needing to click the 'add rice' button 3 times, then 'no cilantro' once on your little register. I've worked food service, and actively still do, and dude was just mad weird. I probably would've just written it off as a rough day or just wanting to get home, but I already got disrespected enough times in a 24 hour period and the last thing I needed was being treated rudely and stupid. And then after that, bro seemed all too eager to try to race off after handing me the bag. Not even trying to offer me sauces/limes or nothing, and then intentionally ignoring my request for limes as he tried to walk off again... VERY annoying. I didn't forget the time he stared at my rack before either. Bruh. read more

Lots of good ingredients, but lacks flavor. I ordered super Nachos w/ Carnitas and a Super Taco w/ Steak. They were loaded with great ingredients, but they lacked flavor or taste. I added my own salt, and got a little better. Not sure what the problem is. Maybe it's frozen meat, who knows. Even the sour cream didn't taste right. Anyway, they offered free delivery today, but they won't get repeat business. Looks good, doesn't taste good. read more

Yelp really needs to fix their search function. I Yelped "Vegan Breakfast Burrito" using Oakland as the location. This was the 60th fucking suggestion. Yes, 60th! That gives me little trust in Yelp when I know for a fact it's not only #1, it's nearly the ONLY 1. Taqueria Venganza might make a really great breakfast burrito when they're open, but really when is that? I'm not really aware of any other "complete" breakfast burritos in the area. Probably have to cross the bridge to visit Taco Boys if you want something similar to what they offer here. The breakfast burrito has everything you could want in it. Choice of meat, beans, eggs, avocado, etc. The best part? It's freaking huge! You should probably share it, but it's so god damned good, I can't get myself to do that. The habanero salsa they give you in little thimbles is delicious. You're gonna need at least two of these and a green if you love dousing your burrito as you go. There's really nothing like it for many miles around. In fact, only thing that comes close is when I'm whippin' up a copycat in the backyard on the Blackstone. You know what they say, "if you want it done right..." The rest of the fully Vegan menu is outstanding as well. It's pretty much the same menu as 'da Boys is serving and it's just as good, if not better. You really can't go wrong but everyone will eventually find a favorite that they stick to. Also since it's originally not a Vegan place, there's the other menu too in case you come here with friends or coworkers that have animals as pets but still haven't made the connection read more

Ole Ole Burrito Express is a no-frills, inexpensive Mexican spot that has a ton of labeled vegan options (albeit laid out in a confusing way). Note that, as of November 2021, only the Telegraph location in Oakland has vegan options. They offer Beyond Meat and Taiwanese vegan meats. They use Violife for their vegan cheese. The guacamole and chips ($8) and side salsas were all excellent: fresh, light and savory. I think they may have used epazote (an alternative to cilantro) in the guacamole, giving it an extra oomph. I got 6 "vegan protein tacos" which can be made with whatever protein you want ($3.65 each). All of them looked the same, with an oily, double-layered store-bought tortilla that failed to impress; the meats were mostly too soft, chewy or odd-tasting. The jackfruit was too sweet (mostly because of the marinade) but I liked the parsley chik'n, the smoked steak and the soyrizo. Take a pass on the jackfruit and seitan. I skipped all the Beyond Meat proteins, because those are dime-a-dozen and boring. The vegan breakfast burrito ($12) was bland and starchy with an excess of refried beans, potatoes and flavorless Just Egg. The vegan mozzarella didn't taste great (they should have used cheddar instead). Ole Ole also has vegan desserts, which is cool. All told, Ole Ole is fine, but not amazing. I'd much rather go to Flacos Tacos in Berkeley, which serves arguably the best vegan Mexican food in the United States and also makes its own tortillas. For their vegan meats, they offer both Beyond Meat read more

Well, I like this spot. They came through in the clutch during COVID. Burritos are pretty tasty especially with their mild sauce. My gf has officially ruled them out of our places to dine claiming the burritos are too dry - I beg to differ. However, we agree that the nachos weren't up to snuff. They use the wrong tortilla chips in my opinion. They should go ahead and use the complimentary chips, which are crispier and thinner. Just sayin. Give them a try. I'm sure you'll have mixed reviews as I do. At the end of the day, their food has yet to give me tummy ache and that's always a good sign. Also, the employees are always polite. Ole Ole Burrito Express - Nachos - Mexican Near Me - Oakland, California

East bay burrito #19 Initial bite 5/7 Beans 5/7 Meat 4/7 Rice 4/7 Cheese 4/7 Avocado 3/7 French fries 3/7 Tortilla 6/7 Overall 4/7 rounded down. As you may have guessed I had the California burrito. Of which I am a big fan but have yet a good one in the Bay Area. No exception here. An ok effort but is missing some zing. The fries are a bit big, so they are more mush than crunch. Smaller fries would be better. The avocado is a tad underripe and therefore not an ideal texture or flavor. read more

So Ole Ole Burrito Express has lost big time points with me. I ordered vegan nacho fries without a meat texture. When ordering seemed straightforward enough but I received a carton of fries, with rice, beans, salsa and avocado. Literally the first time I've ever had a nacho of any kind without cheese number one, and with rice number two. Nachos with rice and no cheese really? What since does that make? After asking about my weird, fake, not nacho fries I was told it was for hardcore vegans. Vegans that don't tolerate products on their nacho fries. A simple fix would've been to offer and make an actual nacho most humans would expect. Instead I get into a bout over what a nacho should be. What idiot decided that nachos shouldn't have cheese? How does not wanting vegan meat texture mean you don't want cheese on your nachos but rice instead? The stupidity and lack of creativity is irritating. The menu should clearly say what their version of a vegan meatless nacho is or the checker should be clear about what the order is before charging people. I bet I could ask 1000 random people what goes on nachos and I'm sure a 1000 people will mention cheese as a main ingredient. read more

Took 25 minutes (which I wouldn't consider "express"). They only had 1 person cooking and 3 people standing there putting food in bags (at a very slow pace). I got a shrimp taco and steak taco which both turned to slop because the juice from the shrimp got on everything. The chicken super burrito was bad/ flavorless, and each bite was like 70% beans and barely any chicken. Definitely not coming back. read more

Been coming here for years. Not as often because the food and the service is going down hill fast. Attempted to get vegan food (vegan nachos) because there aren't many restraints that serve vegan food or have anything vegan on the menu. Asked if they could put it in a reusable container I brought, as I have done before here. Someone who claimed to be the owner of the restaurant and have an "8 hour chef certificate" claimed it was illegal. I informed him state law "ab 619" allows it, even showed it to him. He still refused. There are many options to the problem of massive plastic waste from fast food. Plate transfer is one option other restaurants have used. Just refusing to reduce plastic waste is polluting the planet directly in the global south where most US waste is discarded and directly affecting climate change. I wanted a reason to continue coming to this restaurant, but I can no longer. Too many problems with rude staff, food quality declining and now refusal to offer an alternative to the plastic waste, even if I offer a solution. read more

Came in for a chicken burrito bowl and asked for the contents to be poured into a bigger bowl bc the contents were spilling over; I was told that she could not bc it was against the Manager's orders. I wasn't asking for a bigger serving, only simply a bigger bowl but she insisted that she couldn't accommodate my request after I literally just paid almost $13 for a burrito bowl. The lady preparing my bowl poured more beans than chicken and when I asked for lettuce, I was met with major attitude "anything else?!" and after giving it some thought, I asked for cilantro, onions, and tomatoes and her response was "the pico has all three ingredients" so in other words, no. The lack of customer service here is mind-boggling and you're better off going to Whole Foods Market Cocina or Chipotle. So much for trying to support a local business. read more
