First time at Olde Towne Cobbler. Very knowledgeable, welcoming, friendly! A new purse's strap (crossbody) was lacking enough holes for the buckle to fit how I like. I was prepared to leave my purse there for whatever time would be needed. Instead, the woman helping me went in back to grab her tool & created the holes right there & then! WOW! I've been here a couple times and both times they were able to help me and did great work. The most recent time I had a sandal that had a strap tear off - it seemed almost impossible to repair but he took it back and repaired it plus didn't charge me since he wasn't sure it would stick. Great service here! I think the prices are fair and the timing is fine if you're not in a rush. Good hours, including Saturdays. The work they did on 2 pairs of sandals took about 4 weeks and was $35 to glue some things that was preventing me from wearing them. I had another pair that they were beyond repair - he explained what the issue was with them and why they wouldn't be safe to wear even if he did repair them (they needed an entirely new sole). Unfortunately my experience with this business was not positive. I dropped off a pair of boots for repair and for over 6 weeks I patiently waited for them to be fixed. Since I had not heard anything from the company regarding the status for nearly two months, I decided to go back to the store to ask if my boots were ready. The owner of the company told me that they couldn't repair the sole. If that were the case, I would have expected them to proactively contact me about this issue. Instead, they said nothing. Had I not taken the initiative to go back to the store to ask about the status, I suspect that the company would have never contacted me. Additionally, there were other things I asked for: to clean the boots and to fix the zipper. Even if the soles could not be repaired, they could have addressed the other issues. Nonetheless, it seems that they simply didn't want to do business with me. I took my boots back, disappointed by the indifference expressed by the owner. I have nothing but good to say about this shop. I highly recommend this shop for your shoe repairs. I brought in five single shoes that needed to be resoled because of a drop foot. Yeah...that smell...DEFINITELY stale cigar smoke. Not only has it not aired out, it's gotten worse because the stench penetrated both the leather and the fabric lining inside. Even after polishing the shoe twice, it still smells and it's almost a week later! Don't take leather shoes here unless you want them to STINK! ****Update....someone suggested to fill a sock with baking soda, insert into shoe and leave in a bag for few days. I tried it for a week and went through 2 servings of baking soda. The smell is better, but still there. I really don't know how this place could funk up a shoe so thoroughly in less than a week. Maybe they used it as an ashtray? Regardless, stay AWAY from this place! read more

I brought an older pair of Rockports in recently as the sole had become detached from the shoe. The clerk behind the counter just wanted to deal with the one shoe this was happening on, and when I commented that she should perhaps at least examine the other shoe, to make sure there isn't an issue looming, she seemed annoyed. She said the other shoe should be fine and only wanted the one shoe with the problem. I've never seen this before. I can't really wear one shoe, and it seemed odd to me to send me home with one shoe. Anyway, I left the one shoe with them and while the glue has held where it was applied, I now have a hole directly on the other side of the shoe. Clearly, this repair was done as cheaply, and as carelessly as possible. And the repair was $20. I really thought that was expensive when I went to pick them up (You can buy a new pair for $60-100), but I paid it as I like them, and I know there is life left in them, if they were repaired correctly. I definitely would not recommend this place. While this is a single experience, they did not do a decent repair. If you have your ball joints replaced on your car, they look at both sides of the vehicle, because if one is in need of repair, the other may need replacing very soon. The same principal should apply here. They glued the one spot on the shoe with the issue and neglected the rest of the shoe. I paid $20 to have the shoe repaired, and it looks like that got me a 1 inch strip of glue, in one area. I'm kind of surprised that for $20, they could not have gone around the whole shoe for that. read more

I just brought in a pair of boots for new heels. They did a great job, called when the work was done (only took about a week), shined them up real pretty, and we're very friendly. For $20 I feel like got a whole new pair of boots. In addition they have a nice selection of high quality comfort shoes (Dansko, Birkenstock, etc). They worked with my husband to fit his Birkes perfectly when he bought them here including punching a new hole for one of the straps. This is an old school neighborhood establishment worthy of your spending dollars. read more

Since one review is about politics and another is just downright confusing, I thought I would just write a quick review. Olde Towne cobbler fixed my boot super fast and for $8. They were friendly and the shop is on an adorable street in Tosa where you can get a pizza or a great cup of coffee (among other things). Don't be put off by other reviews. If you need a shoe or boot repaired they will do a professional job. And my boot smelled the same going in as coming out. read more

Took in a pair of nice Allen Edmonds and had requested a combo heel as that's what the shoe originally had. The owner said no problem. When the clerk was writing up the ticket I specifically mentioned that I wanted the combo heel not a full rubber heel again. Two weeks later when I picked up the shoe it had a full rubber heel on it. I mentioned to the ownerand he stated that they only have full rubber heels. At this point for the price I didn't say anything paid the bill and left. I will never go back. (I was going to have four pairs of Allen Edmonds completely redone) Like the previous commenter my shoes smelled horrible too boot. read more

They carry Earth, Dansko, and Keen... Today I overheard a loud exchange from the management. The older gentleman (owner?) was loudly declaring over and over what idiots Democrats and President Obama are. He used more than one expletive to highlight his position. I am all for freedom of expression, but as a Democrat, I would rather not hear how stupid the management thinks I am when I am in the process of handing over a fistful of cash. They beautifully repaired two pairs of nice boots that were in very rough shape. My shoes look like new, I'm so excited I don't have buy new ones! It took longer than other places I've gone (more than 2 weeks) so I wouldn't go here if you need anything really fast. I recently went to Old Towne Cobbler to get a patches done on a leather vest for one of my customers at my cleaners. He tried to charge me 12.50 each patch, which I thought was a little steep. So, I asked him if he could cut me a deal since I'm getting 26 patch sewed on the vest, plus I send you all my customers your way. In the past I sent many customers his way from my cleaners, even the women working in the front desk knew that soon as I met her and told her what store I was from. He responded by telling me "absolutely no, it's my time, my money" " I don't care if you send me customers, my time and my money is valuable." He was a complete jerk about. I guess he don't like the business I sending him. I understand it you money and time but at least try to work with me instead of being a complete jerk. I would never ever send my customers to him because I'm afraid he might rip them off or treat them like jerks. My support for this store has been ongoing for several years but lately after getting really high quotes for shoe repair service I had to take my business else where and no longer patronize this shop anymore. Too bad cause I really liked the friendly staff and got to know them well. Example of repair estimate to replace (6) eyelets on a pair of men's rockport leather boots was over 25. For one boot or 45. For both, but After going to several places I found a local shoe repair guy close by that did same job on both boots for a total of 9.50 including tax!!! Similar incident wanting to buy tongue pads for shoes / sandals they wanted 4.00 for (1) pair of tongue pads. I went online and bought (10) pair for 14. Shipped. Another example I purchased (2) pair of orthotic shoe inserts 50. Each and wore them a few times in my Sandals only to have sore arches cause they didn't provide any support and are worthless to me now. I was told by sales person no way Trevor would take them back, my answer No way I'll ever spend money at this shop anymore . Unfortunate but the reality is I can't afford the high prices for services this store charges. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I dropped a pair of my cousin's dress shoes off at open and stressed to the worker that I needed to pick them up in the 2pm hour. She appeared confused by the request but I confirmed that they could be buffed before that and would be ready in time for me to put him on a 3:30 bus for his residency interview that night in Madison. He had first arrived at 9 the night before from out of town, so that was our first opportunity to drop them off. We showed up at 2:30 pm to see a locked door and a sign that said "ran to the bank, back at 3:15." We panicked- he would miss his 3:30 downtown bus and his interview. After 20 minutes, the shop next door, who is also the landlord, contacted the shop owner for permission to enter for the shoes. When we entered, we found a very startled cobbler - headphones on, looked like he had been napping. Explains why no one heard our knocking and banging on the windows. He charged us for the subpar buff while explaining it wasn't his "job" to deal with customers. We hurried off to make his bus. I dealt with the missing shop worker on my way back and got the response I expected - defensive and argumentative. The owner called me later after I contacted the other location seeking him. He said he "wouldn't have charged me" if he had been there (but offered no refund). Altogether, an epic fail that almost cost my med school cousin a prestigious interview at UW Madison. I absolutely love having a good cobbler on hand to help me get the most life out of my boots and shoes, especially with these harsh winters. I was hopeful when I found this shop a few months ago, but unfortunately don't think I'll be back. The shoe shine service has been great - boots and pumps look good and stay sharp for awhile. However, the heel cap replacement didn't last a week. I had to get my shoes fixed urgently while traveling after the cap snapped off in the middle of Boston. I also have had the soles repaired on a few pairs, and that work has held up okay but not as well as some shops I've been to before. Also, I'm all about supporting a cute local shop, but I found the transaction and customer service side of things to be bizarre. The gentleman doing the work was kind but confusing to work with and didn't seem to have a system in place. I had to ask for quotes, tags, and a timeline. He offered to take my shoes home with him, though unclear why, and then settled on doing the work at the store. I appreciated the call when they were ready for pick up but again confusing, didn't identify himself as being from this shop, and seemed to hold different hours than the actual shoe store. The other store staff also appeared confused and apologetic about the whole process as they looked on. I think this place has potential but needs to step it to with service and quality consistency. read more

I went into this place today with 3 pairs of shoes/boots and a small purse to fix. The lady at the counter was totally rude. When I seemed surprised that the winter boots would be ready before the summer sandals that I need now, she got even worse. Her manner was very coarse. I don't know if she is one of the owners or what but she is definitely hindering business. I scooped up my stuff and got out of there. For me to take the time and trouble to find another cobbler, I have to be pretty pissed off. I took another reviewer's advice and went to Cobbler Corner West in Elm Grove. He's definitely lost a good customer in me. I don't care what his politics are but if he isn't smart enough to know that many of his customers are not of the same mind I too have no interest in supporting his interests.
