I was not impressed with this place. The atmosphere was good....but it had more rules than any restaurant should "no loud kids" "no children allowed to have salad bar" "20% tip added if none left on receipt." "No wet bathing suits." Really? This is a beach bar, stop being so snobby and have fun! I only went there because it has superb reviews on here. 3 out of the 4 people I dined with couldn't eat their meals because it was gross. Flat as can be crab cakes, teeny tiny shrimp, and burned chicken fingers. Only saving grace was the soft shell crab sandwich with coleslaw. Skip this place, I'm sure you can find something better somewhere else. read more

Great location to walk from our hotel. Service was fine, considering the bartender was our server. The place was recommended by a customer who had been coming to the beach for over 30 years. Oysters were the suggestion, however they were out of them. We opted for shrimp and a couple of appetizers. The shrimp were plump and fried perfectly. The seasoning was subtle, but added nicely. Refills were a bit difficult, as the place became busy for just the bartender. A group of ten came in, and the noise level jumped. We opted for a refill to go, and skipped dessert. We will visit again, if only to try the fried oysters. read more

I'll eat at Olde Salty on my next trip to Carolina Beach in a week or two, but they already get five stars from me for their "No Screaming Kids!" sign. It's about time! Other restaurants need to follow suit - immediately!! read more

I was staying next door at the Marriott an was starving. I walked into Olde Salty's an was greeted by a Salty older woman. The tone an energy of the place really went down hill after I walked in an just asked for a menu. I'm not sure if it was me or if she was just having a bad day but it made me loose any appetite I may have had at the time. I walked up the boardwalk an found a nice place with kind people working. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING. I can care less how good your food is if the attitude of the staff is bad it reflects on the restaurant. I'll never go in that place again an plan on sharing my story with everyone. Hope your day's get brighter Olde Salties! \m/ read more

Unfortunately we were 5 adults and a 1 year old and our timing was off. Old salty had seats, so that should have been a clue. The service was slow. The waitress was sweating and disheveled. It took forever to get our food. She brought 7 salads, their were only 5 adults there. Took a long time to get food and orders did not come out together. I ordered soft shells, one of my favorites. Under cooked I sent them back. Steamed shrimp over cooked. Tuna steak not cooked properly. So we basicly ate baked potatoes....my daughter ordered fries got baked potatoes. My dinner should have been comped. Charged me $7.50 do potato and salad. We agreed this was the worst meal ever. At least we could kinda laughed about it. read more

Walked in and it took forever to be greeted.The bartender finally told us we could find our seat.However,there is no sign notifying a customer to do so.We sat down and was never greeted with a menu,our drink order taken,or anything for a while.There may have been five other tables with guests.The bartender finally made her way to the table and gave us two menus. While waiting,we never saw any other employees besides the bartender.I am not sure if she was the only employee there or not,but to have staff shortage on a Saturday in the summertime is not good for business. Due to not being pleased with our initial interactions and impression,we decided to leave. read more

Food is okay. Drinks are better. Full bar if you need a drink while visiting the boardwalk. There are better places to eat but few with a better location than Olde Salty. Right on the boardwalk, facing the beach. Disclaimer, you can't see the beach due to the dunes but it is right off the beach. One odd note. There is no sink in the restrooms. You do your business then walk out and wash your hands at a sink that faces half of the restaurant. Yes, you get to see people washing their hands while you eat your meal. Kind of weird to me. At least you can see if the cook or waitress washed their hands. read more

15 mins to get our drinks and have been waiting 25 mins to get our appetizers... and 35 mins and it is still not here. The frustrating part is the place isn't even busy. Food is finally here and is bad. I am not a picky eater but this is ridiculous. The crab dip doesn't have crab in it. It does have a couple baby shrimps however and the shrimp poppers taste like the cheep jalapeno poppers you buy from a grocery store with a popcorn shrimp added. Look at my other reviews. You will find out how infrequently I leave negative reviews. This one was well deserved read more

Below average food. Wait staff minus one was overly rude and would walk away when being addressed. 3 children (all under 10)and 2 adults . Paid 25% gratuity. Which was ridiculous. Will not return and will spread the word. Children. Shouldn't be included in party size for gratuity. read more

Great hole in the wall place! I ordered the flounder sandwich with fries. Delicious sandwich! The flounder was lightly breaded but still had a nice crunch. The prices were very reasonable. I washed it down with a Bloody Mary. The barmaid made me a killer drink! A little spicy and perfect! They also offer a kids menu. My boys had the chicken tenders with fries. They have outdoor patio seating with a nice view of the area. Overall I'd say they're a winner. I'll be back! read more

I was not super excited about the reviews on their stance on screaming children as we have a 3 month old who sometimes puts on his cranky pants and decides to have a lovely cry. Parking is a nightmare around this part and it is somewhat hard to navigate your way back to the restaurant itself. We ordered a crab cake sandwich and a soft shell crab sandwich. Both were really yummy. The service was just fine. Our child did lose it and I immediately felt the need to snatch him up and take him outside so we wouldn't get yelled at. The crowd is an eclectic mix of locals. I don't think we'd come back again. read more

First impression is EVERYTHING..and while I was very optimistic about Olde Salty's move to Lake Park Blvd, our experience was short and not promising. We walked in (with a relatively large group) and stood there aimlessly looking around, waiting to be seated or trying to figure out if we should seat ourselves. We were never greeted by anyone. We finally decided to pick out a table ourselves and sit. It wasn't busy at all - maybe three or four tables full in the huge place. No music playing...very quiet and just strange. However, even that proved to be a problem. The majority of the tables were dirty and still had food from previous diners on them. No one was cleaning them. Several employees saw us walk in...and still didn't greet us when we sat down. It's not something we do often - but we walked out and promptly went to the mexican place below where we were treated as guests should be immediately. I want this place to succeed, as it's a long standing business on the island, but giving your guests a once-over and ignoring them when they walk in the door is NOT the way to do that. read more

The nice thing, the food is cheap after that it is all down hill from there. Tthe crotchety old lady behind the bar needs to retire. She has no concept of customer service. She got upset when our daughter got locked in the bathroom and when our friends son sat at the bar. I would stay as far away from this place if possible if u have kids or taste buds. read more

Walked in at 8:00 pm stood by the door for a few minutes the worker just stared at me didn't greet me, Felt very backward. Never said a word to me until I actually went up to them and kindly asked if it was self seating or not. First reply was we just took in our last two customers. And half the place was empty. They do not close til 10:30 pm. If you enjoy places that treat you fairly and good customer service this is not the place!!! read more

You have to give Olde Salty props for location. You can walk right across to the beach without having to wind through any of the other shops on the boardwalk. The atmosphere inside is charming. I found myself scooting around in my chair to see all the things hanging on the walls and behind the bar. Nice wine and beer specials. Nothing too over-the-top, but all the standards are there. As far as food, the expected menu of sandwiches and seafood dishes are available. The fries are frozen crinkle cut, but not bad. I enjoyed that there were both fried and boiled/steamed fish options on the menu (although I got the chick fillet sandwich since we were there at lunchtime). Hubby had the fried shrimp sandwich and he said it was good. For beach convenience, they can't be beat. Pretty basic menu, but good. And there are a few picnic tables with umbrellas outside for customers only so if you want to sit outside and watch all the beach-goers, it's the perfect spot. read more

This was a solid restaurant next to the beach and boardwalk. My family and I had the fried seafood platter, old salty burger, grilled cheese, and onion rings. All food was very tasty and fresh. The seafood was even better than a seafood restaurant we went to. The service was great too. The waitress was friendly and willing to chat with my brother about the area! Highly recommended!! read more

The restaurant is on the second floor of a 2-story commercial building on the other side of the main road near the boardwalk. When you go in, it feels pretty dated which didn't bother me, as many places in CB are a bit dated and could use a bit of refreshing. However, this place needs a bit more than that to get up to par with some other seafood options in CB. The people are nice and friendly and the food is pretty good. But the overall experience is just sub-par relatively speaking. We enjoyed watching some older folks (and a couple of grandkids, most likely) dancing to music on the dance-floor. I think it is a good spot for the older generation (maybe 55+), but for younger than that, I would recommend other options on the beach. read more

Jim the bartender and personal friend has the best personality and makes the best drinks on the island. read more

Looked for a good local place to eat and we found it. I had broiled tuna and shrimp and it was great! Good size portion for the money. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic! My boyfriend had a boil with oysters and crab legs. He was also pleased with the portion. While it's nothing fancy, it is good and our waitress was very good. read more

I don't get this place. I want to love it here so badly since I live on the island and the food is pretty good (usually). The service though, can be good or can be really really really bad. I wish they practiced consistency because they could have a great establishment! If they are busy, usually the service is great. But if it's slow, god help you ... you'll probably be there all night. For every one good experience I have with the service here, I have 3 bad experiences. Will sadly have to give up my liking for this place. :( read more

Three of us walked into a nearly empty restaurant. We passed a waitress on our way through the door. We asked if we needed to wait to be seated or if we could just sit anywhere. She told us to pick a seat and she would be right with us. We sat in a booth, waited, waited, and waited some more. I don't know what the food was like, but it can't be good enough to overcome the bad service. read more

I ordered the combo with grilled shrimp and tuna, sides were fried green beans and side salad. The salad was gritty with dirt, the green beans were canned. The tuna was dry and over cooked, the shrimp was covered in a canon seasoning. After sending it back the manager was going to charge me 9.99 for the 4 shrimp. After i had to tell him it was disgusting and inedible he decided he would comp the 4 shrimp. The beer was cold and good i will not return read more

I visited here with a party of 3 adults (incl. me) and 4 children (ages 11&12) on Friday, july 13. It was approximately 9:00 PM. We ordered the blue plate special, coconut shrimp, chicken tender plate, and other dishes. The food was well prepared. The flounder on the $9.00 blue plate special was probably the best fried flounder I have ever eaten. Other members of our party (including the sometimes picky youth) all liked their food. The vegetables were very good. The broccoli got especially high praise. The sole complaint was that not enough coconut shrimp were included for the price. That said, the staff were all friendly and helpful. The facility though aged looked clean and was well kept. We will definitely go here again. It was great food at a affordable price. We did find them to be family friendly; their "Screaming Children..." sign, notwithstanding. read more

First off, the 'no screaming kids sign' is not a myth; it's very real and if you're an adult looking to have a nice meal without having to endure the ceaseless wailing of some other beach-goer's intolerable brood, you'll get what you're looking for here. The atmosphere is standard beach-sports bar - very comfortable. Staff is very nice, fun to talk to but not chatty or intrusive, willing to accomodate requests. Food is just a little bit more expensive than I'd like to see but only by 5% or so. Food tastes great, we hit the boardwalk on our first night in town to find some famous North Carolina calabash seafood and we left happy. read more

Not bringing up it's old salty demeanor, 6 of 7 of us had completely raw food, one with a frozen steak, and a couple cockroachs cruising across our feet as we choked down our "salmon steaks" which were kindly reworded from raw salmon sprinkled with seasoning. Do not go there, let the business die and someone who cares can put something else in. Probably one of the worst places I've ever eaten- service is close to non-existent. read more

This was a neat little stop for our dinner. Very friendly waitress and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had a salmon salad and it was delicious, as was all of the dressings! My little one had grilled cheese and fries and enjoyed that too! We together shared an appetizer of crab dip and it was delicious! Again, reasonably priced and portions are above adequate! Went for lunch, great beer selection with fair pricing. Wife got the fried shrimp, and I got the soft shell crab sandwich. Both were fantastic and I'd highly recommend upgrading to the onion rings, they were on point! Overall, for being this near the boardwalk, excellent pricing, good selection, and awesome food. read more

A great place to eat!…read more Me and my parents came here for lunch as we heard it was highly rated. Getting there was a little tricky but that was the GPS' fault. It has a nice big parking lot and we were shocked that on a Thursday afternoon, it was packed. When we walked in, we were greeted nicely and seated at a booth. The booth was nice and spacious. The table was clean, silverware was mostly clean, and there was salt, pepper, and I believe paprika shakers already on the table. One thing that impressed me heavily, is that there was a napkin dispenser already on the table. I can't tell you how frustrating it is when you have to ask for more napkins at other restaurants, and your server is nowhere to be found, or when they bring you some, but it's not enough. This is huge for a food critic like myself and this should be the standard at all restaurants. Our server was nice. She was knowledgeable about the menu and honest about what was good and what wasn't as popular. The food was good! I got the swordfish tacos with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of baked mac and cheese. The baked mac and cheese was excellent (it's quite big! You may want to make that your only side or share it with someone). The garlic mashed was good too. The swordfish tacos were good, but would've liked a little more meat in there. Still, flavor was great. My parents both got lobster rolls which they liked and my dad got the crab chowder and he said it was fantastic. Their chowder's is what they are famous for; will try that when I go back. Server was attentive, brought us refills and did an overall great job. Food is reasonable priced too and it looked like the store manager checked up on us a few times which was nice as well. Overall a great seafood restaurant to eat at. I recommend going if you are in the area; would like to go back in the future!

The atmosphere might be nice but set your expectations low when it comes to the mixed drinks…read more I'm convinced the restaurants policy stating no refunds on mixed drinks is because they are that bad. We ordered painkillers and it was missing a key ingredient, the coconut puree. When asking the manager about it and expressing our concerns about the drink not being made correctly, he reiterated the restaurants policy of no refunds on alcohol. When told him the drinks were missing a key ingredient, he brought out shot glasses of coconut puree syrup instead of having the bartender fix them. Not a good service experience.

The food was all great, but we especially loved the goat cheese queso. Service was great as well. We'll be back!
