My husband and I just wanted a small snack, so we went to Hurricane Alley's because the menu online looked decent for appetizers. We were very confused when we entered because there was a small boy sitting at the host stand with a staff shirt and he didn't say anything at first. We figured he was an employee's kid but there was no adult near him. He eventually asked us if we wanted to sit upstairs or downstairs. We were still confused because of the child acting as the host, so he then explained downstairs is the full menu and upstairs is appetizers only. We wanted appetizers so he gave us a menu and pointed to the stairs. If you choose to sit upstairs, you order at at the bar. The bartender then gives you a number that you put at the table for an employee to deliver your food. We ordered fried pickles and the Southwest eggrolls. The food was good. It's exactly what you'd want for appetizers on the beach. The upper deck has a nice view of the beach and there is a shaded overhang. The breeze helped keep it cool too. Besides thinking the small kid as the host needed to be supervised, I would've liked to see the tables cleaned off better too. I thought they could have used a good scrub in between customers because it felt sticky. Also, incredibly fresh seared ahi tuna board (appetizer). ( Only negative is the smaller portion sizefor the price, both on grouper and appetizer, but I am told I have a 'big stomach' ... ) Beer was also reasonably priced and not marked up just because in touristy spot. And be sure to sit at second level if ya can - awesome views of ocean and great breeze to cool off during hot summer afternoon or evening. Located on the boardwalk Hurricane Alleys is a great stop if you want that true boardwalk experience. Serving some of the best hot dogs ever, how can you go wrong if they have Nathan's ? Fix your dog to your liking and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Service is a walk up window where you place your order, the staff was great answering questions and making suggestions. I ordered a lot of toppings and the guy asks me did you bring your antacids? I dropped a few toppings! A great place to order your food and walk as the waves splash and the alcohol flows. The manager (dark haired shorter white guy) was very rude to staff and to customers. He was a bit of a bully with a server and was a total jerk to a customer who was seated at the bar, took forever to acknowledge her and then had a rude condescending exchange with her. Great service, food, and views! We were strolling through the Carolina Beach Boardwalk area and I remembered Hurricane Alley had a back deck and a great view of the ocean so we popped over. We could sit downstairs (inside) or at the bar upstairs and order drinks and apps. We also could put our name in for the 30 minute wait. We put our name in and gave a phone # and then sat in the porch swings on the boardwalk. True to their word they called when the table was ready. We ordered a hot dog basket with onion rings. The rings were $3 extra and worth it. We ordered bacon cheese fries and they were de.licious. They cut their fries length wise and they were so good. The server was on point with drink refills and checking in with us. If you pay cash there is a 5% discount and if you pay w a card there is a 3% surcharge. I am always for the discount, more to tip the server! We will be back, best views on the boardwalk (well, other then the Ferris Wheel lol;). read more

The view was good, sat upstairs and it had a good view of the ocean. They had some live music there which was a bit too loud but overall fine. The food was pretty good no complaints there. I will say though the service was not the best. We were seated and our server did not come over for at least 10 minutes and when she finally did come over she attended to a table that was sat later. It kind of seemed like she didn't really now what she was doing and might've been new. Was not very attentive at all which may not have been her fault considering I only saw her serving upstairs so they may just need to hire more people. read more

Category 5 crab dip was good. However, the service was horrific. I always tip but this was ridiculous. My servers name was Emma and i can fairly say i was polite when speaking to her but I've never received worse service in my life. Me and my 2 friends ordered our meals and asked to get funnel fries to go. Emma told us they won't be able to get us funnel fries because the kitchen was super busy although the restaurant was not that full. So we're like okay thank you let us know. I called out to her and she literally side eyed me and kept walking then did not even come back to service us after she came back to check on her tables. We then told her we actually had to get everything to go because our parking pass was about to expire and she came and put to go containers on our tables. Now we are not from Wilmington areas however i personally thought she could have asked the kitchen to put our food in a to go containers. Anyways, we get our food, put it away, and we get our bill and all of our items were on the wrong receipt and mixed up. At that point i was like we need to get out of here. As i give her my card, I see the table in front of me literally eating funnel fries. And so i asked her how they got funnel fries and i wanted to still order some, and she was like "um idk we don't do funnel fries to go" like what the hell could u possibly mean that u don't do funnel fries to go? The young man working the hostess stand was extremely proficient and helpful. He accommodated us very well and helped us find our seats. He guided us on how upstairs was bar service only and gave us our menus. He was very sweet and very cute. I would love to come back five stars. Another wonderful place to add on our list at CB. They have recently renovated Hurricane Alleys and the top deck has beautiful views of Carolina Beach. They had live music tonight, karaoke later in the night and great service. We were told it could be a 45 min wait but we were able to be seated much sooner. There is bar seating also on the top deck which do not need reservations (anything without a bucket of menus) We got a variety of food/drink and everyone was pleased! They have a nice drink menu which includes frozen drinks as well! Overall great place, we will be back. read more

We have been coming to this beach for over 10 years and hurricane alleys has always been a "must visit" spot. We even enjoy the off season for the LoTide Run. Truly, we don't leave without going there at least once or twice. We have heard from some of our local friends that it had gone down hill... Unfortunately, today, I got to experience that for myself. When I walked into the downstairs indoor portion of the restaurant there was one table seated and being waited on by a young girl . The " gentleman" behind the bar started ripping into her the moment she stepped behind the bar loud enough that I could hear it, sitting at the bar. 3 more sets of ppl walked in, while he was still fussing at her, the drink machine, the air..... We're just going to assume he was having a bad day at this point. He then went on to wait on a group of wiser adults and beyond rude to them.... "I'm not a computer, that's too fast, you can't order drinks yet, let's finish your food order.... we don't have that- pick something else " His attitude was that he was better than everybody else and how dare they ask him a question. We're at the 10 minute point now, while he still refuses to make eye contact with anyone I put my hand up in the air like a child when he asked who is next to ensure I could finally get waited on. I ordered two alcoholic beverages and one Cherry Coke. His response, "I'm not doing that. That's a 5k fine. " ...10 seconds of silence.... After this lovely staring contest I said, "OK, what can we do? Customer service 101- you tell me what we can do. You don't just shut down​ a patron without options or any attempt to help. This is the south, at least try to be nice. " I was met with more ugliness and still not understanding why I could not order anything. I told the waitress good luck and went to Silver Dollar where when I asked for the same drink order, I was met with patience and kindness, explaining that they can't sell me but once alcoholic beverage without another adult present. 10 seconds of kindness. Updating the review. Place is in a great location, right on the boardwalk in Carolina Beach. Very inviting place to get a drink or bite to eat. They did some remodeling upstairs which is a great place to check out the ocean view and grab a drink. The food is just average. Just know that going in. It's okay, not great. There are better places to eat, but few have the view and location that Hurricane Alleys' has. read more

The atmosphere was nice, has a rooftop bar area that had live music. The staff is friendly, fast and nice to my kids, even closed the doors when fireworks were going off to help with my baby. The burgers were very delicious, peel and eat shrimp was good the cheese quesadilla for the kid was good. The fries were not good since they were overfried or something since there was no potato on the inside leaving a empty shell of steak fires that disappointed us. We stayed at the Courtyard and walked to this restaurant because it was so close. I don't have any complaints. The server/bartender was really nice and immediately greeted my partner and I when we walked through the doors. We ordered crab legs, a chili dog, and barbecue wings. Everything was really good and reasonably priced. Definitely a spot we will visit again. read more

The food was average, seems they have made some changes since our last visit. First time to Carolina Beach, highly recommended this place. Food, atmosphere, staff all A+++. First night I ordered a Classic Smash Burger, hush puppies and funnel cake fries. To my initial disappointment they were out of the funnel cake fries but Warren saved the day and found one last batch just for me. He personally delivered to the table (I swear he was backlit and I heard a theme song playing softly). The burger was cooked perfectly, hush puppies were delicious. The funnel cake fries were beyond words. They also had music entertainment that evening on their upper deck. We came back the next morning and Brittany hooked us up with more fries (complete with caramel and chocolate dipping sauces), piled high nachos and perfect ocean side adult beverages. The several times we've been to Hurricane Alleys, we have truly enjoyed the gorgeous rooftop deck and a variety of cocktails with a ocean view. They have bubbles on tap- so perfect for me. Nice variety of beers on tap and in bottle which makes the hubby happy. We always take our out of town friends here to have a drink and experience the beauty of CB.
