This is a pretty old school bar that is a local favorite. Drinks are decent, beer is cold and the food is actually pretty good. I was not expecting the food to be as good as it was. Decent number of food items for appetizers or even a meal (sandwiches, some steamed seafood). The food was delicious. We shared a brie appetizer and the almonds were toasted perfectly. I love that they added apples for dipping as it is a bar on the boardwalk. We shared a rueben and the kraut was delicious. This spot is perfect for a people watching. It's right on the boardwalk and has a little outdoor seating. The service was great. They even sale t-shirts for a fun souvenir. My friend went here every year as a child, and it still looks similar after ownership changes, so it was fun to visit. read more

The servers did not wear masks. Many people who walked by did not wear masks either. What a disappointment! I have been coming to CB for several years and have family who live here. We hadn't been to Silver Dollar since 2019 because of COVID so we were excited to go back. It was a Thursday night and we went for karaoke that was supposed to start at 9. Place was empty at 730p and still the bar service was slow. We heard it was under new ownership. Drink prices were decent. No draft beers. Small food menu. I guess because of the fireworks the karaoke was not going to start until later but no one told us. In fact, the DJ disappeared at 905p. The owner was quite rude to us and kept coming over to our table taking glasses and bottles away without even a hello or thank you. I felt bad for the bar staff because she was constantly ordering them to do something that took away from the customers. We had a table of 9 and were eating and drinking so we were not just sitting there. So, since there was no karaoke even by 930 and the owner was unbearable, we left. You would've thought they would have appreciated our business. We will not be going back. There is a much better option for a good night out. Go to the Sea Witch!! read more

What the hell, Yelpers? Did I go to a completely different Silver Dollar? I was lured into Silver Dollar on Memorial Day after leaving flip-flops too far down the beach to travel on hot sidewalks. It had glowing reviews (4 stars on 14 reviews) about its good food, friendly service, and low prices. The place looked like a dive bar, but I trusted in Yelp. Issue #1: Suspiciously empty. It was Memorial Day - *the* busiest day of the year. The beach was absolutely cheek-to-jowl packed. Britt's had a line that stretched down the block. But Silver Dollar was almost empty, save for three older gentlemen who each drank alone and heavily at 11:30am. Issue #2: we were asked to sign our first names on a ledger so we could become "members". We ordered food and learned that the membership was their way of trying to skirt smoking laws. So family and I dined in second-hand smoke, which was less than ideal. Issue #3: Burned-out service. Service was unsmiling and curt for us; this did not bother me. What did bother me was the blonde bartender who smoked, ate food while standing at the bar, licked her fingers, applied her lipstick, coughed into her hand, and then retrieved my food. I did not see her in the back, but I highly doubt that she washed her hands. I am not a germaphobe, so I am not worried about getting sick. But it was a figurative flashing neon sign telling to me that she had given up caring about running a bar/restaurant. It was so obvious that there was no way I was going to complain to the one person who clearly didn't give a f**k. Issue #4: Sometimes you can tell a book by its cover. This place looks, smells, sounds, and feels like a dive bar because it is *is* a dive bar. I like dive bars, but I don't think they have to be gross to feel comfortably casual. The re-upholstered cushions could not hide how run down this place was. Everything was either dirty, neglected, or otherwise covered up in such a superficial way as to be comical. Sure, you spray painted the drop ceilings with grey primer, but there is still holes, string, and staples, and cobwebs stuck to them. Look down: the floor is so neglected that the wood is just wet, rotting timbers. If the place wasn't set onto a slab, I would be worried the floor would collapse. There was trash in the corners. Issue #5: The food. Some Yelpers highlighted the seafood. That may be so, but I wouldn't know. I have eaten food cooked with yak dung and no running water, traveled in areas during a civil war, gambled money I couldn't afford, and had unprotected sex in my distant past - but eating seafood here seemed like too much of a gamble. We opted for sandwiches and they ranged from bland (BBQ) to surprisingly ok (the Chicken Caesar wrap, which alone keeps this place from being one star). Each sandwich came with a hand full of Ruffles potato chips and a pickle spear. Issue #6: Cheap? The prices were on par with other places on the boardwalk. I have no doubt that folks come here at night, get their swerve on in the dark, and this place is a perfectly serviceable location to get rowdy. But do not come to this burnt-out dive bar thinking you are getting anything else but a burnt-out dive bar. read more

Stopped in and got a lobster/shrimp sandwich for $15 and got a greasy lobster/shrimp concoction on a soggy hot dog bun with broken ruffles potato chips as a side! As other reviews have indicated, somehow the food here is quite good. If you're out and about, or just staying at one of the hotels or beach houses, this is a great place to stop for a bite or take-out. Soups and sandwiches in particular were extremely good. And everyone else was very excited about the tacos. The egg rolls are a little odd (but not bad), and the crab dip was the only misstep (probably from not properly reduced alcohol... or maybe a cheese issue). The staff is friendly and kind. read more

The DOLLAR is a great space to hang and chill. You can listen to music meet new and Interesting people or just his in a corner. And drink a beer /cocktail. The food is delicious - I recommend every Eggroll on the menu except the one with sauerkraut, I'm not a fan. If you are - I am sure they're delicious! A hidden treasure at the CB boardwalk. Everyone knows "The Dollar" is a great place for drinks and fun. But it is not widely known how amazing the food is. Top of the list, and highly recommended....brie app with apples and toast points (yum:-), if you are hungry, the beef and pinto bean chili and the chicken salad sandwich (with real bacon ) really hits the spot. Without a doubt...the best bar food in CB. But the biggest surprise is the desserts...Dava creates special desserts every night and each is amazing...including almond joy brownies, creamsicle cake, and Italian wedding cake, just to name a few. Oh, and the bar staff, Wendy, Lori and Kelsey, make everyone feel like they just stopped by a friends house. I am a part-time local in Carolina Beach, having moved here in December 2016. When we arrived, we started searching for a local bar to call our own. It didn't take long to find the Dollar and we're now locals here too! First of all, the people are fantastic. The servers (Lori, Wendy, Eva, Julie, Toni) are wonderful and very welcoming. They have great personalities and keep the place a bit lively. Sometime it is very quiet, but you have to find the Dollar's sweet spot to see it when it is very loud and crazy - which is usually on the nights with Karaoke. [Sad note: The best DJ Freddy recently passed away, but the new folks are good too!] When you walk in, it's not a trendy and bright place, but it is friendly and comfortable, albeit small. You can bring in a larger group, but you need to get there a bit early to find seating together on a weekend night. The food options are somewhat limited due to their equipment limitations, but you can get really good seafood (steamed), excellent crab dip, great soups, awesome sandwiches (they will customize anything, just ask), interesting homemade egg rolls (not oriental - just ask, you'll see), and really special homemade desserts (by the owner). My wife and I are now Friday night regulars and we love the place and the people. Come in with an open mind and a great attitude and you'll love it! read more

I brought my two kids in and was a little surprised that this is more bar than restaurant. At 1 pm there only a couple other people here, but definitely would not bring the kids in the evening. We are here mid October, which is near the end of the season for most places, so the town feels kind of empty. What a night. This bar and the one next to it are so much fun! About as Carolina Beach as you can get. They both do karaoke on the weekends. This place was slammed with people when our party of 12 first showed up. But, as the night wore on, it thinned out and we ended up having a really great time. The place is kept really clean and the staff does a good job of keeping the riff-raff out. The bathroom sink is outside the bathroom. Like, there's a men's bathroom and a women's bathroom. And then you walk out of the bathroom into the bar to wash your hands. It's the strangest thing. It's the same way next door. I guess they think people will wash their hands more if they're being watched? read more

My friends and I ate at the Silver Dollar after a long drive to Wilmington and a few hours on the beach. The chicken quesadilla was excellent and very filling! Kinda expensive but was pleased with the taste of the food. Only one guy was working for a semi-full bar and cooking at the same time so we patiently waited a little longer then we would of liked. Absolutely terrible. Went in with a big bachelorette party of women who love karaoke and would have really enjoyed the place...not to mention, would have spent a lot of money. The customers all stared at us like we were completely out of place, and the bar staff completely ignored us. The group of us took up about 1/4 of the bar space and the bartenders seemed to blatantly ignore us. The doorman also told us not to go to the bar next door, because "fights always break out there." We went to the bar next door and everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. We had drinks immediately after walking in the door and were called up to sing within about 10-15 minutes. read more
