Great as always. Our go to restaurants. Service was good even though it was fathers day weekend.

PHENOMENAL--truly special. We had reservations for 7 but were happily seated when we arrived early. The service was top-notch. We started with raw oysters topped with crème fraîche and caviar, along with the tuna tartare. For our mains, we had the filet medallions cooked perfectly medium rare, topped with equally perfect scallops and hollandaise. My husband ordered the asparagus, which I wasn't expecting much from, but it was surprisingly tender and full of flavor. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse--absolutely incredible. I could've eaten an entire tub of it. A truly memorable meal to celebrate my husband's birthday and our first outing to Southport. Chef's kiss! read more

Food is a 4-star. Very good--especially for Southport, which is mostly your tourist fare. But, to the owners, PLEASE consider being like the vast majority of the rest of the hospitality industry across the country and STOP with the need for reservations to sit at the bar. I can tell you as a local that you're not only losing us as customers but any NEW customers. Many people go out 'on the fly', a last minute, impulsive decision. Every time we try, we're told sorry, but you need to make reservations (referring to bar seats). VERY FEW restaurants do this, even in major metro areas like Charlotte, ATL, and NYC. I say to you as I used to tell my kids: "go figure it out". Very frustrating. VERY. read more

Our first visit to Mr. P's was so good, we secured another reservation before finishing our dinner. The soft shell crabs were fried perfectly in a light cornmeal coating, the best we have found in southeast North Carolina. The crab stuffed lobster was phenomenal. We also enjoyed oysters three ways... raw, Rockefeller and Bienville. All were delicious and perfectly shucked, no shells. We wind up spending a good bit of time at Oak Island due to family living there, and other family taking an annual vacation there, and whenever we need a more upscale, special evening dinner, Mr. P's Bistro in Southport is always the choice! Certainly upscale, but also relaxed, I have never had a bad experience at Mr. P's, just great service and even better food. Their seafood options are always fresh and if there is a certain preparation you do not see for the fish you are thinking of ordering, let the server know and more than likely they can make something work for you! My favorites are probably the crab stuffed fish de jour, or either of the two tuna options. Underground (an asian dish) and the blackened tuna both are wonderful and can be ordered as an appetizer or an entree! Overall, if you are in Southport, or nearby, you cannot go wrong with a dinner at Mr. P's! Before or after dinner, stroll around Southport and grab a drink or do some shopping, they have a great little downtown! read more

Menu said crab cakes sautéed with a lemon sauce. They came fried, on the plate. No sauce. Not much crab. Had to ask for sauce. Came in a thimble, not hot. Asked for asparagus as a side, with a side of hollindase sauce. Again a thimble of glop. Not hot. Jumbo shrimp cocktail were at best large shrimp. Nowhere near jumbo. Last time I dined there, I order a salad with a piece of fish. Fish was done perfectly. I tossed my fork to the bottom of my salad to find a hair. Not mine Service is good. Prices are high for not so good food. I won't go back. read more

One of the best meals I've had. We had oysters bienville and rockefeller and they were done very well, our blackened grouper Oscar was excellent. Our waitress was great and friendly and the vibe was upscale but relaxed. Definitely plan to be back! read more

Food- my prime rib was blackened. My hubby's prime rib was lacking taste and kinda tough even if cooked on medium. Free bread and butter- kind dry rolls. Butter had no herb or flavor in it. My goat cheese with squash was lovely combo! I enjoyed the grits as it was a scoop full- not a syrupy mess you get at breakfast. The French onion soup for me wasn't salty enough. Key lime pie- all desserts made on premise. Although was yummy, it had a very sharpppp lime bite to it. For me that was too overpowering. Didn't care for the "whip cream". Not sweet enough. I preferred the version done at Provisional Company instead, but that's just us. Service-excellent! I gave a 20% tip coz it was just great. Atmosphere- called in our 4:30p Saturday reservation the day before. For us it was very warm , need to crank up the a/c to make it cooler. So being uncomfortable made me not want to stay too long. Our friends called 4 weeks ahead to snag a table on a recent Saturday Night. Glad they did. Food, Service and atmosphere are exceptional. Our server was very impressive, reciting the lengthy list of specials that night....and special they were. The local oysters were fresh, briny, simply delicious. The shad roe appetizer, appearing for the first time this year, was outstanding. She crab soup exceptional taste. The fresh Grouper was perfectly seared, tender, succulent, tasty --absolutely delicious. This is clearly the best restaurant in Southport. Some minor nits: - Reservations required. - Short wine list, not much to choose from. Reasonably priced however. - The place gets busy and consequently very loud - Parking on the street within a block or two. read more

Restaurant was crowded but not noisy. We were seated immediately. Server was with us quickly and got our drink orders. I enjoyed the bread plate after we ordered entrees. I had Smithfield Chicken, my wife had prime rib, and our friend had fried shrimp. All were good, mine especially, and my wife said her prime rib was just right. The waitress, and I'm sorry I have forgotten her name (maybe Rebecca) was wonderful, paying just the right amount of attention to us, and responding to our requests quickly. She made us feel most welcome. I do remember that she was from Columbus, Ohio. I would rate her a five, and the restaurant overall a four. read more

Okay, I know I have reviewed Mr. P's on several occasions but I just can't help myself. We go there every chance we can when in Southport. Unfortunately we have been out of the country for a very long time under unfortunate circumstances and missed seeing everyone. So we went a week ago. Actually twice since we got back. Some new faces, but mostly everyone we already knew and love. Stephen does not change up the menu much if at all and I do giggle a bit when our waitresses recite the specials. I have them memorized. But thats in some ways the charm of Mr. P's. You know what it will be and its always great. These two visits I had the same things...oysters Bienville, scallops, and fried green tomatoes and another vegetable which Im blanking on at the moment, but they're all good. His oysters whether raw or Bienville or Rockefeller are fresh as you will find. The scallops are always simple and cooked to perfection. Never a rubbery scallop nor one still swimming. As for the tomatoes, I make wonderful fried green tomatoes, but as good as mine are, Stephen just knocks it out of the ball park. So just last night I made a batch of his recipe and froze them to extend the green tomato season. BTW, everything from the bar is crafted to perfection. I recommend the aviator. As usual, you won' find better staff, a better co-owner/chef, fresher better food and a relaxing place to de stress. And no they don't pay me to say it, its just that good. Cheers read more

So happy we finally got to try Mr. P's! It came highly recommended and it certainly didn't disappoint. From the absolutely amazing server, Sam to the delicious food and drinks. I had the French Onion soup, it was perfection. My boyfriend had the she crab soup and he gave it 5 stars. For dinner I had the prime rib, medium rare, cooked to perfection with red potatoes and green beans. 5 stars, boyfriend had the blackened grouper with fried green tomatoes and Lima beans, all exquisite. Went to Mr P's for the first time Friday night. I have to say, it absolutely lived up to its reputation. Service was outstanding and our food was excellent. We all had the she crab soup as a starter and it may have been the best I've ever had - filled with large lumps of crab meat and not overly spiced so you could really taste the crab. As a main course, I had the crab stuffed flounder with the house potatoes and collard greens. Amazing! Again, the crab stuffing was not overly spiced, it tasted like crab as it should. My wife had the grouper special and our son, the shrimp scampi. Both also loved their meals. Gotta say, one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a while. read more

No Secret to anyone in Southport or surrounding communities but absolutely the best menu options and the absolute best execution of cooking by MR P! The grouper special was delicate and flavorful and stuffed with a crab stuffing. A very lite sauce/glaze made the entree the best I have had anywhere on south eastern coast of NC. Mr P's went above and beyond from Erica making the most perfect French Martini to customizing a meal for me based on my favorites, with a packed restaurant on a Saturday night chef Stephen went out of his way to create the most phenomenal dish for me. Do yourself a favor make reservations, plan on an experience of a lifetime & do not forget to order the sweet potato brûlée cheesecake which is my now all time favorite dessert! We got a wonderful table by the window in Southport . The service was wonderful , lots of specials and the food was wonderful. Our table had the oyster Rockefellers, blackened Prime Rib, clam chowder, Lobster tails and French dip that my husband said it was the best he had ever had. All was enjoyed by all. Been going here at least once during every vacation to Oak Island: many years we go twice. This year completely screwed the pooch, separate tables, while seating a small party at a large table. I booked a table for 10 on May 1 for a July 29 meal. The back room was near empty, instead we were squeezed in like sardines next to the bar. Pretty pathetic planning, especially when reservations were made well in advance. We also dined at Oliver's, which we do annually, similar menu, I would recommend Oliver's instead, they at least have some foresight, given the same reservation. read more
