We decided to check this place out for lunch after a long beautiful day on Bald Head Island. We stopped in the small town of Southport on the way back to oak island to grab a bite to eat. They have a dog friendly patio, as most place do here, and the doggy menu was the cutest. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the lobster roll with slaw and mom ordered the shrimp tacos with slaw. We ordered Ziggy a burger and he wolfed it down. The lobster roll was full of meat and probably the best one I have had. Mom said her shrimp tacos were amazing. The slaw was perfect and such a large serving. Would definitely visit again. Ciao for now. read more

Being spontaneous isn't always the best idea, but we love exploring new places and trying different experiences. We decided on Edgewater 122 because we wanted a romantic evening by the water to watch the sunset. My first piece of advice: it's not worth it. Making a reservation or not. While we were waiting, something happened that left a bad impression. Another couple walked up without a reservation, and I overheard the hostess tell them, "Give me five minutes and we can squeeze you in." That was frustrating because we had already been waiting for a long time without being offered the same accommodation. Once we were finally seated, another couple who had a reservation at the same time as us was also seated. However, the couple who had arrived without a reservation received their food and service before we did. Even our waiter Amanda seemed to realize something wasn't right. After overhearing my boyfriend and me discussing the situation, she came over and apologized. While I appreciated the apology, the experience had already left us feeling overlooked. Another waitress also passed over our table before we were helped. To make matters worse, one of the main reasons we came was to enjoy the sunset over the water. Unfortunately, we couldn't even see it because large plastic coverings around the patio blocked the view. That was incredibly disappointing, especially after waiting so long to be seated. From my perspective, the way we were treated felt unfair, and it left me questioning whether we were treated differently because of the color of our skin. I can't say for certain that was the reason, but that's how the experience made us feel. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a romantic evening ended on a disappointing note. read more

We arrived and were seated on time for our reservation. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the menu. Although she forgot to put our salad in, the food and service were top notch. In and out in less than 75 minutes. Edgewater also has ample parking and beautiful views from just about every table. The only reason for 4 stars is the lack of any type of tap and pay, which is necessary in today's dining climate. Cheers! Ask for Julie! read more

We ate here when visiting last year and enjoyed it so we brought a friend with us this year and we were pleased with our lunch again. The restaurant is located right on the water with great views. Two of us had a draft beer and we all ordered the Black Bean Burger and fries. The sandwich was good and the fries were seasoned shoestring fries that were very good. The service was good as well. We would definitely be back again. read more

What a great place to eat! Beautiful Waterfront view Great food Great drinks Great ambiance Great service We booked a reservation for Thursday during the busy summer season and were pleasantly suprised by the availability the day before our planned outing. The beautiful view was accompanied by wonderfully crafted food. I feel like it's hard to find affordable tasty food with a view like this. We started with the ceviche and bread board which both hit the spot pretty well. The ceviche was fresh and tasty with the perfect amount of sweet/salty and acidity. I think there was some kind of tropical fruit in it that really added another element to the dish. The miso butter bread was very hearty yet light, a perfect pairing with our Caesar salad. Wife ordered the key lime pie martini which was so good I wish I had gotten one and wasn't driving. For mains I got the whole fried fish, which was vermillion snapper paired with edamame fried rice and crispy Brussel sprouts. I'm literally salivating thinking of it right now. No complaints on my end. My wife ordered the mushroom fried rice with steak added and after asking for medium rare received well done steak. The waitress was very understanding and offered to take it back and have it made correctly. Unfortunately it came back medium well and at that point we were ready to just eat, and they offered to comp the rice dish which was nice but my wife was still a little disappointed. I understand these things happen and won't fault them for trying to make it right. But it is a little disappointing to have a "fixed" dish come back unfixed. That being said it was still a great meal and we felt very taken care of by our waitress. Would love to come back and give them another shot. read more

Justin was a great server! He made our lunch entertaining and we were well taken care of. I was disappointed in the lack of seafood options on the menu for lunch. I ended up getting the seafood Cobb salad which came with 5 jumbo shrimp. The portion was large for $18. My fiancé got the fried shrimp with fries. The fries were cooked well and nice and crispy. We didn't have to wait for a table since it was the off season and enjoyed sitting by the water. Overall, I expected more fresh fish options so I might try another place next time. read more

Should be 4.5 stars. Excellent dinner, drinks and service. We sat on the patio area with a nice view of the boat docks and the IWC. Like pretty much everything nowadays, the prices are a bit high, but it was a very enjoyable meal. We had the excellent ceviche to start. It was a decent size bowl of seafood with good flavor. The seared scallops with bok choy and bacon jam was a real winner. Scallops were properly cooked - tasty but still tender. The fresh catch special (tilefish) was another outstanding dish. The salsa Verde and sauted greens worked well. The dish included sauted plantains. These also were very good, but I'm not sure how they fit in with the rest of the dish. Overall a very good experience. read more

Atmosphere - 7/10 Hygiene - 8.8/10 Service - 7.7/10 Food - 9/10 My experience at Edgewater was all in all excellent. My first impressions were skeptical due to the lack of engagement at the hostess stand. My mind was changed instantly, once seated. The restaurants atmosphere was very good. Place was busy but with plenty of seats. Nice bar with lots of interaction from the bartender to the other customers. I enjoyed the lights and the decor inside the restaurant. For me the outside area lacked in decor, however it is on the ocean so that makes up for it. Our waitress was great and very quick with what we needed. Our waitress also made a very good recommendation for a starter being the ceviche which was amazing in itself. The ceviche was very tropical with mangos and tomatoes. The ceviche was also served with blue tortilla chips topped with a tajin type seasoning. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with a coleslaw side. The food did take approximately 20-30 minutes to come out but it was worth the wait. The crab cake tasted fresh and crispy with the sweetness of crab poking through. The bun was fluffy and flavorful and wasn't soggy at all. The BEST crab cake sandwich I've ever had. The coleslaw was also the BEST I've had in my life. Not tart or to soggy unlike other slaws I've had. One complaint I would have about the food/drink in this instance is the coke. It was brought out very flat but upon asking for a new drink it was much better and not flat at all. The restrooms were very good as well. The male restroom was a single person restroom with the choice of urinal or regular toilet. Very clean and smelled well with soap and towels. The only complaint I have for the restroom is the water pressure for the sink was very poor even with both nozzles turned to the highest setting. In conclusion my experience was excellent and I would dine here again for multiple other food items available on the menu. Great for families and tourist alike! read more

The location of this restaurant is amazing, sheltered patio with a nice view over the water. Unfortunately that is the only redeemable quality about this business. From the moment we walked up for our reservation we were greeted with hostility. Our waitress was rude the entire time and didn't bother checking on us. The appetizers were good but the main course is disappointing and you will have to wait a while. Everything considered, the nice views do not make up for sub par food and high cost. read more

Wow just wow! Tried this place for the first time today with my friend. Cute spot overlooking boats on the water. Nathin was our waiter and he was delightful! He checked on us often and made our day even more enjoyable. I had two mojito's that were nice and strong. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, very tasty with bits of crab on the top. I had the salmon sandwich and she had the crab cake sandwich, Parmesan fries were really good. Split a crème brûlée. Made in house and light and tasty. Nathin deserves a big fat raise! He's the best waiter I've had at any restaurant since moving here 1.5 years ago. I eat out at least 6 times a month. We will definitely be back soon. Parking can be tough so get there early. read more

I popped into Edgewater yesterday for an early dinner. While seated promptly and served by a very sweet and professional waitress, the food was abysmal. First, I don't understand how you have a waterfront restaurant without several fresh seafood options. There was one catch of the day but otherwise it was all shrimp, salmon, and crab. I was very disappointed in the choices for fresh seafood. I finally settled on the fried green tomatoes and crab stuffed shrimp. First, the fried green tomatoes were crispy, but beyond salty. They also served them in the dipping sauce so while they started out nice and crisp, they got soggy pretty fast. The description had also said they'd be topped with crab but came with literally a small soup spoon of crab sprinkled over the top. Definitely not what I expected. As for the "crab stuffed" shrimp...I don't have enough words to describe how atrocious these were. First, the dish was served at an insanely hot temperature that I completely burned my mouth and would explain why the shrimp were so overcooked you could barely tell they were shrimp! As for the "stuffing", tiny bits of crab were floating in about 3 sticks of melted butter that otherwise had no flavor. I had to drain some of the butter out of the dish just to try to scoop some crab out, but even then it only tasted of butter and slightly spoiled fish. What a huge disappointment. read more

Beautiful spot, love the oceanside vibes! They sat everyone by the view as best as possible which was nice. All the staff were really friendly and answered all of our questions. I got the shrimp and grits and it was so good! My first time ever having it, however I noticed they cook the grits different, it was more fried. It tasted amazing, especially the shrimp! The only thing was because it was fried it got hard for me to continue eating it since I get acid reflux easily so I was only able to eat one fried grits piece but I did eat all the rest! Would definitely come here again :) read more

It's always been good here. But not tonight--in part. Crab cakes are among the best as always. But the menu for the "1/2 chicken" is literally a 1/4 chicken-- one leg/thigh cut into pieces. THIS WAS NOT a 1/2 chicken, which entails one breast, thigh, drumstick, and wing. SO wrong for Edgewater to do this to customers. Honestly, though I cannot prove it from a few months ago, seemed to be the same issue we had when family came to visit us back around the new year's. Atmosphere is good, as is generally the food, but this is WRONG. Two times is more than a coincidence in our view. We'll think twice about returning anytime soon. We should have spoken up and it's our fault for not having done so! read more

We chose Edgewater in Southport for a waterfront dinner and it did not disappoint! We picked it based on reviews, and the bonus of no wait, and ended up loving everything about it. Really weird experience our first and only time *trying* to try Edgewater 122. We saw this statement on the website - "We are still taking reservations for Dinner, but feel free to just come right in for Brunch or Lunch." But we didn't realize that meant "reservations ONLY". It was around 6:30 PM on a Tuesday and the hostess didn't seem super thrilled to greet us. We asked for a table for 2. She asked if we had a reservation and we did not. But are there any openings later? No, totally booked the whole rest of the night, she says. Unless we wanted to sit at the bar. (We did not.) As soon as we walked away, we looked on Resy and saw open times for the dining room and patio from 7:15 till close! She should have been able to see that, right? So with all this in mind, we were not interested in trying this restaurant anymore. read more

We went for a ladies lunch. Walked around the downtown area and then went for lunch. Food was solid. Service good. View fabulous.

Decided to give it another opportunity after a disappointing experience in the fall. We were greeted and seated right away in the main dining room and met Stephanie our server. She was very attentive and pleasant. The cocktails were very good along with the seared tuna and ceviche apps. We both chose the daily fish special, pan seared snapper in a corn succotash sauce. Everything was fresh, presented nicely and tasted great. My only comment would be the $40 per plate for the main seafood dish was too steep. Great waterfront sunset and servers so I'll compromise. Thank you to the manager who sent me a $25 gift card after the fall experience. Cheers to a terrific 2026! read more

Even with a reservation, the host staff seemed irritated to seat us. Our server was friendly overall, though we did not see him at all until a significant time had passed after we finished our meal. The hot pimento crab dip was decent, but scalding hot...though the reason we came was for the special - a crab and lobster stuffed grouper with zucchini and other veggies. We will admit that the presentation was beautiful, but the dish was just not great. We found less than a quarter sized piece of lobster with the fish after searching, and the dish was a bit oily overall. It was supposed to be cream-based, but was oil-based. The clams were dry, the zucchini was overcooked...etc. - just not the quality you would expect for a $50 dish. This was our second time trying Edgewater 122. We wanted to give it another shot, as we did not enjoy our first experience, but we have decided we will not be back. read more

This was not our first visit to the restaurant. We were seated at the hi-top just as you go thru the door. The built in AC was frigid. That said, the server took our order, two fish specials with potatoes and asparagus. The food came out and presentation was really nice. Thefish was good, but it had a lot of the dark fatty meat. The potatoes were bland. No salt shaker on the table and the server didn't come back to check on us. We were finished eating when she did and ordered desert. I asked if I could get a Cognac and she didn't know what that was. So I asked for brandy. She said we don't have that, but did ask the bartender who confirmed that there was no brandy. I can't believe a restaurant posing as a fine dining establishment, doesn't have any sort of brandy! I think a lot of consideration on our part will occur before we return. read more

This is a follow up review as we have dined here before. Diner was top notch! Caesar was perfectly dressed.(You can tell it's homemade!) The steak was excellent and done right. Everyone knows that the Brussels sprouts are the best in all of the USA! They did not disappoint. They were superior.(seriously amazing). I had the scallops and they were seasoned really well.they were cooked perfectly. I had crisped potatoes and all I have to say is Delicious!! Got homemade Ranch on the side to dip and it was to die for! Topped off with a nice cheesecake drizzled with caramel and fruit to make our dinner spectacular. Our waitress was excellent. She was attentive and very considerate. The atmosphere was very friendly and the sunset over the water made for a beautiful evening. I'm done. We tried twice and both times were complete failures. A myriad of problems including wrong orders, undercooked seafood, poor food quality and slow service.
