Nice rustic atmosphere where we were seated nearly immediately. The beer selection was decent and had a great local variety to choose from food was delicious. Everyone else got a different version of burger while I ordered the pound and a half of baby back ribs. Everything was cooked exactly as ordered all while our server never wrote a single thing down. I'm not sure if anything will bring us back to that area but if it does, we will definitely be back.

When seated I had no problem that I wasn't seen until 5 minutes passed, or that I was not handed a drink menu until I asked for one. What I do have a problem with however is being treated differently to other patrons for no apparent reason. Visiting this town as a person of Latino descent has been a joy so far but at the Black Horse Tavern I finally understood why I was warned about coming to Bridgton. After the hostess sat us down, we waited about 5 minutes to see hour waitress, as she approached our table she immediately asked if we wanted drinks or appetizers, my boyfriend asked for a drink menu which seemed to bother her. After receiving the drink menu we waited another 5 minutes to then be met with another waitress because our original one passed us off to someone else who ended up taking our drink and entree orders. The original waitress did eventually return with our said beverages she slammed them down in front of my boyfriend and I. The only reason I know the waitress's name is Shannon is because I heard her greet another table and because it was on my receipt. We carried on and made the best of our situation as we enjoyed what we could of our dinner but even as she returned with the bill, she slammed it in front of my boyfriend yet again and continued having pleasant conversations with another group of people. As we left we didn't even get a "thanks for coming" or a "goodnight" as we left the restaurant.

The waitress was fantastic. I swear she was alone and she had the entire place happy She was great. Nicely decorated for Halloween too. She said Christmas they go all out too! We tried the fried cheese curds for a starter followed by the AMAZING Rueben and chef salad and the chicken sandwich with pesto. Onion rings were made in house and were delicious. Food was excellent and served piping hot. Only suggestion would be to ensure fries have a nice mix of sizes (vs all ends as the bag empties) but the fries were perfectly cooked and having malt vinegar was great. Outside area would be a lot of fun on a warm day especially with a band! Will definitely return when in the area!

A nice cozy setting with comfort food, to boot. We were seated in the back room, with a great view of the mountains. They took the time to add a little diagram of which ones you were looking at. {See Pictures}. Many years ago, I worked at a very waspy/blue blood Country Club, where the food resembled the menu. Old American standards that stood the test of time. However, at Oxford House, they aren't afraid to experiment with ingredients outside of the norm. Like Charred Grilled Octopus and Pan Seared Scallops over Crispy Potato Cakes; which were our appetizers. For entrees, we had Filet Mignon and Roasted Chicken. (See photos for complete description). The bread basket was a nice added bonus. We were quite full but had to try, and split, one dessert. Maine Blueberry Pie À la Mode. Which was the right choice. As we watched the sun go down, it was a perfect end to our vacation. Next time, I'll try and get a table on the large front porch. Honorable Mention: They pour a nice glass of wine (4 Fingers)

This place was recommended by an older local couple that we love to visit every time we come to the area First of all, GENEROUS wine pours. I was happily shocked and buzzed after one glass of Malbec. Second, the servings of food are not small. We noticed other tables taking their leftovers in to-go containers. Baby, we're not in Kansas anymore (NYC). And lastly, the food is so fresh and delicious--the menu changes seasonally and is sourced from local farms, of course! Apps: Pan seared scallops over homemade crisp potato cakes, fresh corn puree, and a red pepper coulis--divine. Charred grilled octopus with heirloom tomatoes, cannellini beans, sweet red peppers, castelvetrano olives, and grilled lemon--an absolutely elevated cephalopod. Entrees: Roasted statler chicken with Yukon gold mashed potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, and cipollini onions surrounded by a garlic white wine pan jus--very mild bird and excellent sauce And my favorite... Filet mignon seared perfectly rare, with mashed potatoes mixed with blue cheese crumbles, wilted greens, more caramelized cipollinis, all topped with a red wine demi glaze We were so well taken care of--the meal, the service, the view!!! We'll happily take another 6 hour drive just to return and do it again. Cheers!
