To get seated took 10-15 mi utes while restaurant was not busy. Once we put in our order the waitress did not know the menu and did offer options. When we received food the sirloin was a big piece of fat. Waitress dropped our bill before all parties we done eating. Felt as though we were intruding on her time. Well this used to be the place we went to for a guaranteed good meal and it overall great experience. We have now had three terrible visits. I understand that Covid causes chaos with staffing and restaurants are struggling but tonight it had to do with simply bad choices for staff. We arrived and told the host we wanted either lounge or dining room. We were told there was a party ahead. We waited by the door for the lounge as a table was paying their bill. Party #1 gets seated and then another party comes in and says hi to the staff and goes through the bar and around to be seated. Then another couple who came in after us gets seated. Spoke with the host who said he forgot about us. We were three feet away! Then the table be comes avail but the patrons are saving it for their friends!!!! I protested and we were allowed to sit but the "friends" were given menus and drinks and our table was still dirty. We were there an hour and no service. This was our last ditch effort to try to recapture previous experiences but between the poor service, unappealing food (lAst visit) and long waits it will be a long time before going back. A shame cause it cannot all be Covid. You can't push your friends to the front of the line and expect waiting customers to be happy. read more

Reading the review of the people who walked out of Olde Mill Tavern made us laugh and decide to exit our own review. We also experienced the hostess who never stopped rolling silverware. We celebrate her tenacity at multi-tasking. I guess people fron the big city of Portland dont have an understanding of how hard it is to find good food on a Monday or Tuesday. My wife and I were excited to avoid black Friday craziness and go here for lunch. We ordered drinks and realized nearly everyone still had their jackets on to fend off the cold. Great atmosphere, but instead of ordering lunch we ordered the hot crab dip ( which was very good btw), finished our 1 drink and left. Ended up at Gary's in Naples. A couple minutes before leaving the waitress turned on the pellet stove and commented that she had strict limits on how high she could set the thermostat. There's no way that pellet stove is going to warm up the big space. Maybe we'll go back in the spring and explore the menu further. read more

we've been going to The Olde Mill for about 15 years. We frequent for dinner a couple of times each summer and 1-2 times in the "off season". My recent visit was a little disappointing. The dining room was quiet, much quieter than I remember. Our server was nice and attentive. The food was "ordinary". The meals came out of the kitchen almost instantly causing us to wonder if the food had just been sitting under warmers waiting for someone to order it. Did not seem made to order. The price and value for the meals were not aligned with the food it self. We paid a lot for Haddock stuffed with crab meat. My companion found it to be "ok", not worth $24.00 I had the meatloaf, I love meatloaf. The pieces I was served seemed to have been in the oven too long, overly crispy and borderline burnt. The flavor again was ordinary and the gravy quite salty. I don't like to write negative reviews, but this used to be a go to spot for us and I am not sure that we will go back again, especially since we drove almost an hour to get there. Went here tonight for the first time in decades... and it was excellent. Had the wings (50 cent wings on Wednesday nights) and onion rings. Both excellent. My wife had the meatloaf, with fresh mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. The meatloaf had finely chopped green peppers in it, which she wasn't told about, but luckily liked. My husband and I eat out frequently, especially him because he travels for work, and this was by far the worst meal we have had in a long time. We should have left after having the shrimp cocktail appetizer. The shrimp didn't taste fresh and the cocktail sauce just had a weird flavor. They swordfish special that I ordered didn't taste fresh either and was undercooked. The accompanying veggies were smothered in butter and the sweet potatoes tasted like a tin can. My husband's burrito, for 16.99, had barely any chicken and was smothered in this horrible tasting sauce that tasted like it came straight from a can like my side dish. The food was fantastic. Unfortunately the young waitress decided her friends at the bar were much more import than her customers. The apps and salad plates came out with the dinner, well salad plates after dinner but hey who's counting. We as a party of 8 had to flag her from the bar to ask for drink refills. Never asked about the food * which was fantastic I might add!!!! Kudos to the kitchen staff you rocked!!! If I owned the place I'd fire the entire wait staff keep the kitchen and rock it. To begin, yes the prices are high for this area and that may put people off. The atmosphere is great and the drinks are always perfect. The food has always been delicious in my experience and I eat here pretty regularly. I don't eat seafood but everyone I bring here that does absolutely raves about how good the mussels are. Had a real disappointing night here. Have eaten here before and liked the food . Tonight it seemed the kitchen had a melt down . After approx 45 min we still did not get our meal and were told it would be another 30min plus.. in their defense it was a busy night but it seemed that everything was out of order as tables were being served that recently arrived .. we were only a party of four.. ended up leaving as we felt 70 min was more then enough time ..... and the best outlook was another 30 - an hour.. may give it another shot hoping it was just a bad night or mixup...... read more

Awful experience. After ordering our meals, we were informed approximately 30 minutes later that some of the dishes were no longer available. Upon finally receiving our food, one member of our party had to wait an additional 10 minutes to receive their dish. When that dish finally came, the server spilled half of the dish on the table and offered only an "oops". We will not be returning. read more

Robin and Bob were awesome, such wonderful hospitality, WOW you guys treat bands like kings! The Food was out of this world........my band mate had the pan seared scallops ... mouth watering.....my other band mate had the beef tips.....it looked like 3 filets mignon's with a flavor out of this world...cooked to perfection (medium rare).....I had a turkey club for after the gig.......the herbed mayo and all natural turkey was awesome!!!! Everything about this place was horrible! The waitress was rude and kept spilling things, the bathroom was filthy, our table was dirty, the room was freezing cold and the menus were sticking together. I ordered a bottled beer and the bottle was sticky and the beer (Amstel) tasted like it was ancient. My kids both ordered off the kids menu which stated a meal, drink & a dessert. I ordered steak tips 'in their signature old mille sauce' which arrived over cooked, cold and completely tasteless. I honestly don't think it even had salt or pepper on it! Both my kids (who are decent eaters) complained that the food tasted strange. The waitress came over and told us she would get the check, but I asked for dessert as the kids were both looking forward to it. She looked at me like I had 100 heads and responded that there was no dessert they would like. (I'm not sure how she knows what my children like to eat, hmmm) When I inquired about the kids menu dessert, she said they were all out. The bill came and it was $7 for the kids meal, plus $2 for the drink which I think was steep for a kids portion of pasta with butter, small milk & no dessert but there was no price on the kids menu so I wasn't going to debate it. If there were any other restaurants in the area I would have gone there instead of this shit hole. The nice atmosphere did little to lighten the 1 hour wait for my overpriced and undercooked steaktips. Staring at crooked pictures on the wall as the waiter growled and sexual assaulted the people I was with while he filled our waters for a second time did nothing to shorten the time. A friend with a gluton allergy had a hard time determining whether or not the facetious waiter was joking around or being serious about her order and was forced not to eat out of fear of having an allergic reaction. I go every time I am in the area. In fairness, the food over the years has varied but this past weekend it was terrific. I ate at the bar, where the bartender offered the complete menu in a friendly way. The people with whom I conversed were wonderful, open. The pre-dinner martini was perfectly made and generous. The salmon was moist and cooked perfectly. The salad was fresh and crisp. The only thing that could use improvement was the bread basket. It needs some imagination. On Vacation camping and we decided we wanted to eat out our last night so We didn't have to cook. There were eight of us, four adults and four kids. When we got there we were greeted by the hostess warmly and she told us it would be about a 25 minute wait because they had an unexpected party of 30 and the kitchen was seriously backed up and then It would probably take a long time to get our food. We said that was fine and would wait the 25 minutes and then we noticed that the tavern had some tables open and asked if we could sit there. We were told by the hostess yes but it would still be a while before we got served and the food would still take a while but we can order drinks. So we decided to do that. We got our drinks pretty promptly our menus and our silverware. Hailey was one of the servers who is training and was very pleasant and helpful. We did wait a very long time to order and it took about an hour to get our food. We weren't complaining about any of that because we were told and we understood that the kitchen was understaffed. My only concern about that is it's the summer with lots of vacationers so I would think that the restaurant would be able to handle a full restaurant. They clearly could not. We ordered food and had two chowders and a salad which we assumed would come out before the meal but they came out with the meal. We didn't complain but I just thought it was interesting since two small cups of chowder and a salad could be made by anybody there and delivered to the table pretty quickly. The food in my opinion was not very good. I ordered the lobster casserole for $26 it came with a small skillet of about four very small, maybe 3 inch pieces of lobster probably knuckles maybe claws, with a lobster Newberg Cracker topping. It was just OK and not worth the money and I would've paid $35-$40 for a decent size portion with an appropriate amount of lobster meat. It was served with about 2 cups of cold, dry tasteless potatoes and some vegetables which were not bad. However, I could've ordered 4 pound and a quarter lobsters for about $30-$40 and had 10 Times or more the amount of lobster. Pretty disappointing. The chowder that My friend and I had was terrible and it really tasted like it came out of a can. Kids meals seemed fine, lasagna I was told was just OK, the seafood casserole my friend said was decent but again not a huge portion for $28 and our other friend said his steak tips were good. The other waitress we believe ran the bar area was clearly stressed out but no one was penalized for the slow service because we knew in advance that we were going to wait. We tipped 20% regardless of the service and the fact that some of the food and some of the portion sizes were not great. I would not go back because it just wasn't worth having to wait that long again for just mediocre to poor food. Hopefully they can get it together and staff appropriately so more people aren't turned off. read more

The Olde Mill is in a very interesting building, and the restaurant has odd things on its walls--farm implements, stuffed animals, things like that. It replaces a much less ambitious restaurant (the Cracked Platter?) and offers pretty good food. You can have a nice evening there, but watch out for the surprisingly high prices on some dishes--when we ate there last summer, my friend ordered a steak that cost $32! He couldn't eat it all, so he had it put in a doggie bag and actually fed it to the dogs when we got home. The service is fine, and other dishes aren't so expensive, but they are a little high for rural Maine. read more

Coming from Southern NE, we gave the restaurant a try and were very pleased! In particular we enjoyed the French Onion and lobster corn soups. The salmon and sweet potato fries were great also. Prices on entrees were reasonable for us, and we returned several times after. If looking for an area of improvement: brighten up the place-better lighting is needed especially on a dark rainy day!
