I have found the best Chinese food I have eaten has always been outside of the United States. Located in London's. Chinatown, this is one of the spots open late (until 3:30am) and the food is delicious! Small seating space downstairs but there is also an upstairs area. They have a ton of options, we had the wonton soup which was pipping hot and super delicious, the sweet and sour chicken which was incredible and the star for me was the beef with noodles (essentially beef chow fun but it was called something else) .

The food came out lightning quick and our group devoured everything almost just as quick -- a testament to how good the food was. The star of the show was most definitely the LSE fried rice, which was topped with a decadent, savory egg sauce that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Think egg drop soup meets beef fried rice in the most delicious way imaginable. We also enjoyed the stir fried green beans with salted egg yolk sauce, which packed a nice crunch with an interesting mix of sweet and savory notes from the salted egg. Mapo tofu: savory minced meat mixed in with succulent cubes of tofu. Beef ho fun: good but standard. Won't let you down but won't blow your mind. Overall, you probably can't go wrong with closing your eyes and pick a random item on the menu here. But definitely try the LSE fried rice.

    Mongolian Beef -- skip

(Super busy and I see why!) London Chinatown was a must visit for us as there are so many eateries- bakeries for pastry items, restaurants from family-style to small bites cafés, and surprisingly a good handful of milk tea shops haha I caught a cold (darn you, Rainy London) so my immediate go-to was a Hong Kong café and Yelp helped us locate Old Town 97~ (SO wanted to find a place that offered BBQ duck too) Old Town 97 offers individual entrée items (combo items including a side of white rice) and Chinese family-style dishes too, which offered plenty of items for me and SO to try SO wanted to eat all the BBQ duck he could haha so he opt for one their popular items -- BBQ duck + white rice, while I opt for the Wonton with Rice Noodle Soup and we shared a Mongolian Beef BBQ duck + white rice: SO liked it, was a good meal to start off the trip, rice was plentiful and duck was good Wonton with Rice Noodle Soup: plenty of wontons and broth was pippin' hot , I had to finish my noodles quickly before they became soggy haha definitely helped my cold, only wish there were more veggies heh Mongolian Beef: our least favorite dish, it was on the sweet side + a lot tomato flavor (very different than the standard USA one) we couldn't put a finger on it but in the end, we were unable to finish the dish so I'd say skip Overall, I definitely recommend here for Chinese food-- I'm a bit biased since I feel I'd be able to bring my parents, and they would enjoy it too, haha!

If you don't get the duck, you'll regret it. It was amazing, we ordered second helping also. Spicy dumplings were also really good. Second time coming to this place in the past couple years and there is always a line to get in, so not sure why some of the reviews are not great, but it's always been good food.

We were in a rush to get dinner and randomly picked this place. We got the fish congee, shrimp toast, and morning glory with garlic. The food came amazingly fast. Congee was fine with plenty of fish and heavy on the ginger. The shrimp toast was greasy as expected. The morning glory was quite tender and flavorful although a bit on the salty side. Overall food was good/typical. Service was surprisingly outstanding. As I mentioned, we were in a bit of a rush. I think we got in, ordered, ate, and paid, all within 20 minutes. The team here does not mess around and are super nice and on top of things!

Home away from home! Comfort food! Price: £13.60 for the Hainan Chicken, £15.40 for the Duck (Half). Tina's Tip: - Ran out of the duck during the Christmas eve while we were there :( But who wouldn't want the roasted duck! - Crowded at times and cash only!

Food is great! Exactly what you expect from a place in the middle of China town, they're quick, we came here around 1130 and they were still open. Had a line outside but only took us a few minutes to be seated upstairs. Quick service? Fresh and quick food.

When you're in Chinatown late at night and need a quick snack before heading back home, Old Town 97 may be one of the only options you have on a weeknight. My friends and I were craving some egg noodles and that is exactly what we got to quell our cravings. This place feels like a bustling Hong Kong Cafe opened late and ready to serve some quick Cantonese food. You've got plenty of options from soup noodles to congee, to westernized rice dishes. Every plate was priced at around £7-£10 so it isn't the cheapest spot, but you're in the heart of London so that's to be expected. At first we thought there would be no seating until they took us upstairs. The three of us ordered wonton noodles and boba (yes, that is what I call this amazing beverage). Our noodles took a bit longer than we thought to arrive given how easy they are to prepare. Each bowl contained four wontons and a helping of noodles in broth. Did it get the job done? Yes. Was it absolutely amazing? Not quite... but still okay. For a quick fix, this is the place to go. However, I imagine there would be better Cantonese food elsewhere in the area if they were open late. Be careful as they have a £10 minimum when it comes to credit cards, so you may as well order a drink with your meal to meet that requirement.

    Peking duck
    Haylee M.

This is by far the best place to have Peking Duck. I've been here on 3 different occasions on trips to London, and it has never disappointed on the duck order. The meat is perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crisp. The combination with the hoisin sauce, veggies and pancakes is unbeatable. Pancakes are always cooked perfectly. I tried 2 of the spicy Curry options on the menu once, and they were not spicy at all! There was practically no flavor to those dishes, so that's why I dropped a star. Would most definitely go back on every trip for the duck though.

Vegetable noodles, Malaysian rice, spring rolls, Japanese dumplings, chicken balls.

Me and my friend were trying to find a place to eat after working late and THIS was a hidden gem. Before entering I looked at the reviews but since all of them were 5 to 7 years old and mostly negative, we still decided to go in and try it and I must say, it was the BEST decision we took. They are EXTREMELY quick and super friendly. I saw someone in the reviews said they weren't given a receipt but we have and they even split the bill for us. I saw someone also said cash only however we ended up paying in card. I guess this place has had a lot of changes for the better. The food was banging. Idk what else people want considering the prices were honest and reasonable. I would specifically say something, the staff working upstairs deserve a 10/10 alone. They were very friendly, funny and lively. Amazing service honestly.

Is it a restaurant?????????????????????????????????? Is there any a really fking waiter? Fking unacceptable attitude from staffs Salty soup and beef tripe No English food name in the bill. How can a foreigner know how to calculate the bill again? Stupid manager keep laughing about a "new" fking waiter. Fking stupid service from manager to staffs. How is just a fking steamed rice difficult to understand? Once forever? Definitely yes If you are hungry and late in China town in London, you should go home and eat instant noodles instead of eating at this "restaurant".

It's definitely a young crowd/scene haha plenty of people on Friday evening and luckily were able to get seating upstairs Beautifully decorated but it'll be hard to hold a conversation since it's pretty noisy lol Pretty good variety of menu items, lots of Asian fusion dishes SO and I opt for their Crispy Aromatic Duck, Prawn and Chinese Chive Dumplings and Scallop Siu Mai Their Crispy Aromatic Duck was 5/5 -- crispy and not overly fried, great flavor too, SO and I really enjoyed it, funnily they bring it to you for display... then take it to the back to deconstruct, and then bring it back to you for grubbing afterwards haha Scallop Siu Mai and Prawn with Chinese Chive Dumplings were great too, a good filler for dinner, wishing it came with 4pc vs 3pc but I get it haha A pretty penny (or rather, pound heh) but it's London Worth a try if you like Crispy Duck!

Duck & Rice, Soho, London, England -- April 5…read more Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 made our way to Duck & Rice after walking through the Chinatown area, which was absolutely packed and fun to explore, and we were looking for something lively with shareable dishes, and the overall experience felt energetic with some real highs and a few misses. Arrival and First Impressions The space has a strong personality with a mix of pub and restaurant energy and it felt busy from the moment we walked in, matching the chaos outside in Soho, but still relatively well controlled with a steady flow of service and a constant buzz that made it feel like a place always in motion. The Highlights Food came out quickly and leaned into that comfort style Chinese menu with a mix of dumplings and larger plates, and the soup dumplings were the clear favorite for the table with both kids fully on board which is always a win. The crispy duck with pancakes was also solid and more in line with what we expected, and overall the variety kept everyone engaged even if the kids stayed mostly in their comfort zone. The Challenges Portion sizes were a bit tricky for a family of four with several dishes coming in sets of three which meant ordering extra just to share evenly, and a few items missed the mark including shu mai that felt a bit dry. The duck and rice being served closer to room temperature was intentional to keep it tender but still felt a little off from expectation, and surprisingly there were no chili oil or similar condiments for the dumplings which would have helped quite a bit. The overall noise and energy level can also be a lot after a full day out. Final Thoughts This is a lively spot that fits right into the Soho and Chinatown energy and works well if you are looking for a fun fast paced meal with shareable dishes, but it is not without a few quirks and inconsistencies. We are glad we tried it and there are definitely things worth ordering, but with so many strong options nearby we would probably explore elsewhere next time, making it worth it for the experience but not a must return.

If you're sensitive to spice, I'd recommend staying away from the Sichuan soup. Individual dishes are ordered via iPad. We got a large selection of meats, veggies, noodles, and some more unusual delicacies like beef cheek and colon(?). There are self serve stations for sauce making, and some small sides and desserts/fruits. I LOVED the seaweed salad there and got three helpings... not sure what goes into this but it was so yummy. Tissue boxes at the table are a nice touch for runny noses with the spicy broth! There's a bit of a show that comes with ordered hand pulled noodles!
