Such a comforting meal! I absolutely loved the lobster dumplings and the quality of everything we ordered was great. The service was a bit slow, but there was only one person running the upstairs. Incredible dumplings, noodles, and probably the best-tasting smashed cucumber appetizer I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant, which really exceeded my expectations regarding the London dining scene! Highly recommend making a reservation for dinner, since the place fills up quickly and there aren't too many seats/tables. The dan dan noodles had a chewy, bouncy texture with a spicy flavorful sauce, while the lobster dumplings were juicy and had a thin wrapper. But the standout dish for me was the smashed cucumbers - garlicy and tangy, the dish was a perfectly refreshing accompaniment for the dumplings/noodles. Being in London is one thing. Being in China is another. And when you are visiting London you might want to have a dinner in China, or a Chinese dinner at least. And that was on the list. Where to go and what to have. In London you can visit "Chinatown" area not far from the theatre district. It has been there for years and has many options. But this time was different. We checked things out and found a place down a side street not far from the main street we always walk on when in London. It was a location that is easy to pass. There is no huge sign outside. Just a sign on the window and a short menu. You walk inside and think you are in a "take-out" place. But then you ask if you can sit and they say either upstairs or downstairs. This place is small and that is where the seats are. And not many. So, we went downstairs to try it out. Down there was small. Think no more than 20 people there if that. Packed. We got the last table and the waiter brought over the menu. We ordered our water and started to look what we can do. It was some menu to choose from. We also got some insights from the tables next to us. They made recommendations as they are locals who always go here. This is not a tourist place. Very local. It took time but then we ordered what we wanted. It is known for dumplings and the list was long and varied. This was not easy to decide. So, we kept it simple. What e ordered beef dumplings where was 12 dumplings that were freshly made. Soft but firm. Proper taste in the beef. The noodles edge was ideal, with a touch of salt from the pot of boiling water where they are made. This was followed with dumplings (again 12) filled with mashed chicken and fresh corn. It is something we never heard of, but here it is. Once more this is fresh and handmade. It was just made so it was warm and fresh. The flavor was right. And a dip in soy (and chili pepper sauce) was perfect. Next there were seasoned dumplings that are not very common here but in China. They were fresh, spicy, and filled with some vegetables and pork. The seasoning did help make them different than what we had had before. Finally came the bigger items. Starting with the bowl of beef soup, vegetables, bok, and beef ribs. Floating in the warm broth was ideal to improve the seasoning and the flavor itself. There was a bowl of noodles in it as well. All freshly made and substantial for the eaters. And this could fee two people at one time or to share. A specialty they had, and is hard to find, is something I always liked when living in Beijing. This is Mapo Tofu. This is my favorite Chinese soul food, that some places try to make but cannot achieve. This is a super flavorful tofu dish that's stewed in a complex savory sauce with spicy peppers and numbing peppercorns! If you love spicy, ultra-flavorful food, you're going to love this dish! It was perfect, as I have not had this since moving from China. Overall, Xi Home is an ideal place to step into when you find it. I have it locked into my phone info to find it again. The team is great. The manger is ideal. It is like stopping into a local Chinese take-out that I remember even when working in NYC. The price is perfect. The proportion is great. The special thing to nice is that this is true Chinese cooking. It comes from a small region in the Northeast with the main city of Dalian (A place where I did have an office.) On its own, the food is deserving of 5 stars. Everything came out hot, fresh, and super flavorful, especially when you top it with their house made chili oil. I highly recommend ordering any of the soups, as even the vegetarian option had a hearty broth. The score of 4 stars overall is due to the lack of customer service. More like a 4.5 but the dishes that my friend had recommended me were all hits and the dish I voluntarily ordered was not as good, so I want to make a fair judgment by saying that perhaps I just ordered the wrong dish! I also heard that the owner is from my hometown so that gives some nostalgic sentimental value to what I had for dinner today! I ordered the handmade chives, eggs and prawn dumplings (韭菜鸡蛋虾饺), and those are the exact kind that I used to have at home (maybe sometimes without the prawns), so suffice it to say that I got a taste of home! The dumplings were very decent in size and one plate came with 10 dumplings, which was definitely not enough for me as a Manchurian, as opposed to people from southern China. Then I had the pork with fennel dumplings (猪肉茴香饺), which tasted like exactly how I envisioned them! The fennel flavor was very evident and complemented the pork dumplings very well. I would highly recommend both kinds! Then my friend got what she usually got. The first dish was the potato salad (土豆丝), which is a really awkward translation because it's definitely not the southern American potato salad you would have in Mississippi. But then again, this store is in London, so... Anyway, it was delicious! I wished the portion was bigger because we would have a gigantic plate back home, but amazing regardless, with even added bell pepper slices that worked perfectly with the original dish! The second dish was the steamed cold noodles (凉皮), which might've been one of the best I have had anywhere, including in China. The spiciness and the sesame sauces were perfection, and added two layers of flavors to the dish that allowed me to discover how these two flavors coincided with each other and worked together simultaneously. Once again, I wished there were more noodles because at times I definitely felt like there was a lot of sauce and spiciness but not enough pieces of cold noodles to go with them. Regardless, simply outstanding! The dish that I would not recommend was the chive pancakes (韭菜盒), which I grew up eating very frequently as well. For some reason the egg flavor was so evident and the chive flavor was completely missing, which was inconceivable because everyone knows how strong chives are in terms of smell and flavor. As a result, those "pancakes" became more like scrambled egg mixtures with fried flour outside them. Unfortunately they were bland as a result with not enough salt or chive flavor. One major advantage is that I think they are very affordable. My dumplings were only £10.8 and £12.8, respectively, and I was definitely close to full after both plates. The cold appetizers were relatively smaller for their prices in comparison to the dumplings, but I think by themselves without comparison, the prices were more fair. Just the dumplings were super economical, that's for sure. My friend would bring anyone from out of town to this place and if I lived in London I would probably do the same. Another gem hidden in the wall here! Located closely to the tourists attraction, if you are craving about traditional Chinese dumpling after a long day of walk or work, this is your place! Dumpling were freshly handmade and super delicious! So does the fried bun and dumpling. Space might be small but they have three floors. Service might be slow if a large group here. read more

Just ok. Dan Dan noodles were super watery. Fried homemade buns had no flavor. Spring onion, pancakes, taste of cooking oil, and nothing else. Overall everything locked flavor I was just super thick heavy dough. For lunch for three people with no drinks it cost 80 pounds. The cost was too high, and the benefit was too low. We went here on Dec 31, we were starving and my daughter found this place and wanted to give it a try. It was rather easy to find using maps on the iPhone. We ordered spicy dumplings first cause that's usually my daughter's favorite. We also orders the pork chive and prawn, pork and chive, and the beef steamed dumplings . We recorded all but the spicy buns rather quickly and the two pork dishes were fantastic! Loved them. The beef steamed were a soup dumpling and tasty. We received the much anticipated spicy last and they were a let down. They were spicy but the flavor just wasn't there. They had a hard time even eating them. They give sour sauce, vinegar, and chili in oil. Overall we enjoyed the dumplings immensely just wouldn't order the spicy again. read more

If you're looking for good dumplings in London, look no further: Xi Home has it all! I'm from the Bay Area, so we have plenty of dumpling selections around us, and I've gotta say, this place was amazing. We were in a rush to get to the show at Her Majesty's Theatre (just a 10 min walk from this spot), and our waiter said we could be served quickly, so we got a table. He was very attentive, checking on us consistently and making sure our order came on time. We ordered the pork dumplings with chives and prawn, the pork soup bun, the crispy prawn silk rolls, and the pan-fried dumplings. It was the perfect serving for two. Pork dumplings were really yummy, and there were so many of them! (I was expecting 5, but there were many more.) The pork soup bun was HUGE - it came with a straw so we could enjoy the soup in the soup bun, which was perfect. The soup was hot (so be careful!), flavorful, and you would get a taste of bits of pork while "drinking" it. The crispy prawn silk rolls were wrapped in a very thin layer of noodles (I think) and, true to their name, were gently crispy and flaky. Pan-fried dumplings were really cool - they were joined together by what looked like a thin layer of crispy egg, though I could be wrong. Regardless, it was delicious. None of the dishes were oily, not even the soup of the pork soup bun. Would definitely visit again to try noodle/other dishes if I'm in London! read more

I lived in China for 2 years and really love Chinese food. The dumplings, noodle soup and cold dishes looked authentic and nice, but I wish they were half as good as advertised, I'm sorry it's utterly unhygienic and the price does not match the quality either. First, they left the order ticket in the wonton noodle soup and they undercooked our dumplings. I saw almost all of their order tickets were placed on top of the food soaked with oil and soup before they were removed and delivered to us! I appreciate that they are busy and wish not to make any mistakes but this is revolting! Went downstairs to the toilet and saw staff using a small washing machine to drain minced vegetables. I saw greenish water coming out, I suspect that they won't clean it again. The minced meat was placed in a white plastic bag on the floor near the stairs and left wide open, the meat looked dark and sticky and no doubt it was not fresh! We spent over £20 for one plate or 10 pcs of jade dumplings, and they came with raw meat inside, felt like the dumplings were frozen and weren't cooked properly. Are they really freshly hand-made as advertised? We waited half an hour for undercooked dumplings and had to send the order back. It took them another 30 mins for them to fix the order, and the dumplings came semi-cold, hard and one of them was broken, and seemed to be microwaved. We didn't dare to ask them again, finished everything and left. They charged us over £10 services fee and their customer service is non-existent! Not that their food and service are very expensive but nothing matches the price. We could've spent £45 to 50 per person anywhere else rather than waiting over an hour for undercooked and unhygienic junk! I also saw them use bare hands to grab cooked dumplings and the exact person was wiping the table using a dirty cloth after that. I am not sure if all restaurants are like this but all these kinds of stuff I mentioned were done blatantly, wondering what else is even more revolting that we couldn't see? read more
