We really wanted to go with a heat pump, but due to some circumstances that are unique to our house, we decided to go with a gas furnace replacement. We didn't make a decision right away, and Richard would check in with us on occasion, but wasn't pushy at all. Then, when our furnace gave out completely (in the middle of a cold snap in December), he was able to revise our quote quickly. We took three other bids; Castle's was the best on price and we liked their maintenance program, which we plan on purchasing. We also appreciated the time taken with us to answer questions and commit to a timely install. Key to decision was their proposal to a required change in furnace configuration and redesign / alteration of the ductwork. Even though we were in the midst of the holiday season, Castle committed to get the job done before Christmas, and did just that. Lucas spent a lot of time with us, explaining various things we asked about. Unexpectedly, he really helped us out by installing a new laundry room fan we had picked up to replace the old one that had fallen from the ceiling. Helpfully, Lucas pointed out that our attic has no fan to pump out excess heat (and it gets hot in the summer!!) He promised to send a quote immediately. With both, a unexperienced office person answered and both could not give me the estimate I was looking for. Both required a technician to physically check the unit at a cost. It seemed I had no choice but make an appointment with each. Frustrated on knowing I'm going to be paying someone for not fixing the furnace, I contacted Adams Heating to see what they had to offer. Right away, I got a response from the owner in directing me to his tech (Josh). After discussing my situation with him, I cancelled my previous two appointments and made one with Adams. What was the difference??? Simply put ...Integrity and old school values! Josh was honest in his communication and gave me what I exactly wanted, that of an estimate. The problem turned out to be the capacitor and was replaced quickly at a very reasonable price. Throughout the replacement, Josh gave me an quick oversite of the furnace itself which was educating. Shout out to John Green specifically. The quote was not the cheapest but nearly, and it was the system that I felt had the best value. Did everything go exactly as planned? Of course not, but that's the nature of things, especially with old houses like mine, and more importantly John and co. made sure everything was right in the end. When we got the system tested for permitting and rebates the technician commented that it passed with flying colors, well beyond the minimum specs.
