We have had John to our home twice in 8 years. I was amazed to find such an honest, skilled, dependable HVAC expert. His ethics match what my father taught me many years ago -- so unusual these days. There are so many HVAC companies which don't even TRY to repair AC systems -- they just tell you it has to be replaced (for thousands of dollars). John, unlike his competition, actually diagnoses what is right and wrong about your HVAC. He always prefers repairing instead of replacing; think "savings". In our case, he found a bad condensor in our AC compressor and replaced it, while also, at my request, explaining everything he was doing. He also showed me how to clean the compressor radiator, so I could easily maintain it in the future. His bill was quite reasonable. Although unusual, 4 months later the new condensor failed. I was referred to John by a friend. I explained my situation and the urgency of the service. Initially I left a VM and I was happy that he called me back the next day. He squeezed his schedule and came out to work on my HVAC. I had a new thermostat installed but it was not wired correctly. John was able to spot that quickly and fixed that. He cleaned up the HVAC unit completely and told me that it never got any maintenance or service for 40 years. He fixed the fan under the staircase. It was a very difficult job as he had to work on the parts/unit upside down with very little space. Then the motor turned out to be dead when we tested it. He replaced a brand new one for me. We both thought it would be a quick fix- at most 2 hours. But it turned out to be a very difficult job with such an old equipment and parts were reaching the end of the life. I debated on even writing this review because if John gets too busy then he won't have time for little folks like me... but he's as genuine as they come and I want my neighbors to know about him too. Like many other reviews on here, John was the hero who gave my wife and kids heat again without me having to sign my life savings away. John came out during likely one of his busiest weeks when everyone is starting to turn their heaters on and realizing they didn't work. I was told the heater was old and needed to be replaced by other companies in the past and thought my furnace was on it's last legs. His response was, "as long as the core heating elements are still intact I can almost guarantee I can fix it." He fixed it. If you are looking for folks to get quotes from because your heater/AC busted and you are being told it needs to be replaced I highly recommend you call John at Core Heating first. He's authentic, easy to talk to, quick to diagnose problems, and doesn't have a salesman vibe. My house was John's 6th call for the day before 3PM. He's a 1-person, veteran owned business, and someone who takes immense pride in his 30 years of experience. He said he does both residential and commercial properties. When our heating system failed, we called multiple companies, including Bragg, only to be met with questionable practices and exorbitant quotes. Bragg's technician dismantled our furnace, and insisted on a $22,000 replacement with a 9% interest rate. We were even told to replace a new AC system barely two years old. Enter Johnny. He came to our rescue, revealing the scam and fixing our furnace that Bragg's had taken apart. There was nothing wrong with it! He showed us why it kept shutting off - two of our vents were closed. Don't know why I waited so long to fix my summertime problem of an overheated upstairs office and bedrooms but visiting a neighborhood open house I noticed something I've not seen before, a whole house fan. Realtor told me how wonderfully they draw the cool air from outside and exhaust it out through the attic. I searched for these fans and realized this was not a DIY job for me so I started searching and calling around for a contractor. Made 3 calls and left messages. John from Core called me back the same day from a job site and said he could drop by at the end of his day and take a look at what I wanted to have done. He stopped by and spent about 1/2 hour checking out my attic and electrical system. We also talked about the fans I'd sourced. He gave me a price and suggested I purchase the fan myself and call him when it arrived to schedule an install date. With the heat of June upon me I ordered one from Home Depot with WiFi controls the same day. It arrived a week later and I called John to set up a date. We settled on a morning two days later. Wow! I was so pleased because we were expecting 90+ degree weather the coming weekend. John showed up on time at 8:30 and started working. He brought an assistant to help. This 24" fan has to be mounted on the 2nd floor ceiling in the hallway and set in the attic by removing a ceiling joist and building a frame for the fan to sit on. Then it requires wiring to a 120 Volt circuit and then to the WiFi hub box. The installation hit a couple of snags along the way but John easily worked through them and 3 hours from start to finish the fan was operating like a charm. I'm now able to turn it on to one of two speeds that automatically opens the shutter that covers the opening in the ceiling. John was truly a pleasure to have here getting this job done. He knows his stuff and pays great attention to detail. A bit of a perfectionist I think as he left the house as clean as it was when he came. The price was right. I am adding a couple pictures to this page of the job. I definitely recommend Core and will definitely call them again if I need anything done around the house that involves heating, A/C, electrical or mechanical. read more

John did us a solid a couple days ago when my attempt to install a nest thermostat didn't go all that well. We started to panic with the heating not working properly, extremely cold weather, and a newborn at home. Almost every other service we called were days if not weeks out. John came to our place that same day and looked over our whole system, fixed existing wiring issues, made sure everything was working properly and installed the nest properly all within an hour and even managed to teach me a few things and how to maintain things myself. Freaking fantastic!!!! John is the nicest and most honest guy I have ever hired. He found the issue with my furnace and ordered the part I needed. We liked him so much, we referred him to a friend who was quoted $8-10k for a new furnace. They said hers was unfixable. John fixed it and her A/C for a few hundred buck and tuned them up. The others guys didn't even quote her for the A//C that was a different issue. All I can say is that it restores my faith in my fellow man when I meet people like John. As good as it gets. I called John around 3 pm today hoping to schedule a service call for our central AC thinking at least a week or so due to the high temps. He had an immediate opening due to a cancelation and was at our house less than 30 minutes later. Quickly and efficiently diagnosed our problem and found several other significant issues from previous work done. Two hours later as I sit here and write this review our AC system is running better than it has in the last three years and our house is cold! Expect just about anything when Core Heating arrives at your home. True, this man knows his trade (it took him less than 5 minutes to diagnosis the problem with my HVAC system, and fewer than 10 minutes to complete the actual repairs). Evidently, Core thinks highly of his acquired skills; I say "evidently" because my own acquired skills in diagnosing others has taught me to be cautious when face to face with behavjiors misaligned with conventional norms). Evidently, Core, the man, is (or emulates the actions of) a deeply preoccupied man. Money is not one of his issues, or so he says; however, Core's clarion call forimmediate, positive feedback appears to over-shadow, overwhelm and bring to mind the marketplace savvy contained in the words "caveat emptor". During the 90 minutes of heighten drama inside and outside of my home, Core managed to walk my dog, paint, snap tik-tok videos of himself, and speak at length about a trove of nameless others plotting against his business success. Turns out that the builders of our home had not hooked up the wires correctly in our air conditioning unit so the dual zone system was not functioning properly. My heater started to make a dripping sound, and the company that had installed it and the A/C unit did a very poor job so I did not want to call them to come back out to check it out. We had used John for a couple of jobs at Moga Transport in Petaluma and knew that he does a fantastic job, responds quickly and charges a fair rate. I think everyone should call John, especially if you want it done right. He came out the next day, fixed my issue, which was a very poor drain install, he took it out and reinstalled it and is does not make the noise anymore, he also made a suggestion on the best filter to buy for the unit and checked everything to make sure it was running great before he left.
