    Bar and pool table
    Is S.

I haven't been to Old Nicks Pub since late 2019, and I'm glad they're open. It's hard to find an open pub near Arcadia. Old Nick's is in a small shopping center and because it's fairly new, it's not divey. Everything is clean and in its place. Because Old Nick's doesn't serve food, North Carolina requires a membership. That's $5 at the door, and a member can bring two guests. They appear to allow you to bring your own food, which is a nice touch. The bar is staffed by a couple of nice girls who can get you what you want. Very easy going. They have three pool tables, which are free to play for paying customers. On the other side is a nice lineup of dart boards. Also, on Friday nights they have karaoke. Old Nick's is an easy going place to chill out and socialize.

The plan was to hit this spot for some karaoke, but when we arrived at 7 we were told karaoke doesn't start on Saturdays until 10pm. So that was a bit disappointing The space felt a bit Smokey, I suppose from years pst, but they do allow vaping inside which I wasn't a big fan of. It definitely draws an eclectic crowd, big age range and a lot of diversity in the ethnicity of the crowd as well Drinks are a bit pricey and they do not offer any food, though you are welcome to bring your own or have it delivered.

The "dive-bar" doesn't take long to get jam-packed (if it isn't already upon arrival), so if its applause and/or interaction with others from various walks of life is what you seek then look no more because Gatsby's delivers and then some! From rowdy college students to the fully-grown and mature, this "hole-in-the-wall" attracts them ALL every single weekend (Fridays & Saturdays). From the well-seasoned singers & crooners to the silly, drunken socialites just up for laughs, the karaoke microphone within Gatsby's never disappoints amusement!! But don't take my word for it! Come on down to this downtown hot spot to enjoy cutting loose with an always embracing, diverse crowd without breaking your wallet. There's no admission, the drinks are always affordable, the staff remains cool and collected, and even the security remains social! Parking can be a bit of a chore, depending on when you arrive... but I promise you once you're inside Gatsby's it'll all be worth the visit.

This is very much a neighborhood pub, and if you are not a regular, nobody knows your name or probably cares to. This place opened in 2006 in a down town area that was more than a little rough, but it took off, building a faithful following. COVID hit the spot hard, and the original owner closed the place in 2021. It reopened in 3022 under new management and seemed headed in the right direction. But recently things have turned very messy, with unpaid wages and vendor invoices, The State has several investigations going on at present, and survival seems a long shot. I have eaten here a handful of times and found the food and service to be rather good. The Fish and Chips (comes in small or large), the Celtic Chili, the Corned Beef and Cabbage, the Reuben, and the Bangers and Mash were are worth a shot. I don't sense these spot will be open much longer. A shame really.

Service was really slow, even though our server was really nice. No real atmosphere even though it got busier as the evening went by. Big blow when we were told they didn't have bangers to go with the mash. Disappointing. We went with the fish and chips and got a side of the garlic mashed potatoes. Also tried the scotch eggs. The eggs were actually really good and nice and hot. Served with a Dijon mustard they were probably the best part of the evening. Nice crunchy coating of breadcrumbs and sausage. Good app. The fish and chips were ok. Lots more batter than actual fish inside. Very greasy. Chips were not the steak fries thick cut like they use to do awhile back. We asked for curry sauce several times before we actually got it. As this is a must anytime you have fish and chips. They should just serve it with it. The mashed potatoes were awesome. Very rich and buttery. We ordered another side as it was the best thing on our table. We also had a round of vodka sodas. Standard good bar drink. I really hoped this would be the great pub experience for my friend but it wasn't what I expected. Hopefully next time round will be better. Hope the get some bangers in soon !!
