We went for lunch. I ordered beef ribs, I got the shredded beef. It's okay, little dry because I don't like the sauce to put it on. The service was something to be desired. Got wrong on my drink order. My favorite was the sweet potato soufflé. The ambience is very family vibes. I think I will try for the breakfast next time.

Fast service during the lunch hour. Great flavor from old school bbq. They have been in business for decades and have get it down perfect.

My favorite barbecue - I grew up on it when it was all over the place. Now there's only one left so I have to plan my trip to come by. The Brunswick stew is the star, followed by the beef, pork, and ribs. ( I've never had the chicken.) Love their garlic bread and breakfast, not necessarily together, but it does sound good Put some south in your mouth!

Finally got to try Old Hickory House in Tucker, GA, after my friends Beth & Luis hyped it up. Got there right as they opened, and the parking lot was already semi-full. (Don't worry, there's extra parking on the side!) This place has strong old-school diner vibes, with great service, a massive menu, and tasty food at a great price. I tried: Barbecue Omelet with Beef: Loaded with beef and paired with thick, non-watery grits - perfection. Short Stack with Bacon: Pancakes were tasty, but I wish they had some crisp edges. The bacon was thick, crispy, and just right. Country Chicken & Gravy Biscuit Platter: The real MVP here! Perfectly battered chicken with flavorful gravy on a biscuit that's crunchy on the outside, buttery on the inside, and doesn't fall apart. All this for just $5! The atmosphere is lively with families, and there's a bar-style seating option if you're dining solo. Nikki, my server, was amazing and made sure my drink never hit the bottom. Highly recommend for a solid breakfast experience. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

We took my aunt here the Sunday before Christmas. She loves veggies and they serve different delicious ones daily on the board. The BBQ pork I had was still great after all these years along with the best Brunswick stew in Ga. Inmho. Ambiance is casual with old pictures on the wall. There are tv's but no music so conversation is encouraged. Service was good even though the after church crowd had the place packed. Bottom line Old Hickory House never disappoints.

Old school BBQ and hospitality at its finest. I'd been wanting to check this last remaining location of a once prolific chain out for years since rewatching Smokey and the Bandit, but never have had any reason to be over on the east side of Atlanta until recently. I couldn't wait to try it out. Not only is it a nearly identical example of the long gone Forest Park location used in the movie, but at nearly half a century old, it's a step back to a simpler time with BBQ the way it was before the word "craft" was introduced, classic dishes the way grandma made, plenty of sweet tea and peach cobbler. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is just so classic and comforting. Ever since Texas bbq has exploded everywhere, I had forgotten what old south bbq was like. Finely chopped pork and ribs cooked over an open pit. And you won't need to take out a second mortgage to pay the bill either! I had to try the diablo sandwich, of course. It's not on the menu but you can just ask for it. Even with all the hot sauce, I could still taste that smokey pork. And their brunswick stew is the best you'll eat. Love all the old folks. I love this place!

I used to frequent the old Hickory house in Charlotte up until they closed. Is this the same group that used to have the places in North Carolina?

I had high hopes for 1910 Public House, especially after a trusted friend raved about their…read moreexperience there. Unfortunately, my recent Sunday visit for a takeout order left me thoroughly disappointed, and nearly $50 lighter with very little to show for it. The Food: I ordered two items: the pimento cheese fritters and the shrimp and grits. The pimento cheese fritters were, in a word, average. They looked and tasted like standard fried cheese balls--nothing visually impressive, nothing exciting about the flavor, and at $16 (or $4 a piece), I expected something with a little more creativity or punch especially at entree pricing for an appetizer. It was just pimento cheese, deep fried. That's it. Just as literal as could be. The shrimp and grits was the bigger disappointment. At $26, I expected a hearty, well-portioned dish. What I got was four average-sized shrimp and barely any andouille sausage--and I mean barely. It was just one thin slice of smoked sausage, cut in half, and placed in the entire dish. That was it. The portion felt light the moment I picked up the bag, and once I got to my friend'd and opened it, that feeling was confirmed. I will say, as an avid Yelp user I did my homework before ordering. I looked through photos on their page and noticed that their Shrimp & Grits looked completely different across three separate photos. When I asked the staff about it when I arrived, they mentioned the menu rotates every twelve weeks, which is fine, but the inconsistency made it hard to know what I was actually ordering. Atmosphere: I didn't dine in, but from what I could see, the space seemed nice. It's located in a charming, up-and-coming part of Lilburn, and the staff I interacted with were friendly and pleasant. So there's that. Final Thoughts: This meal was definitely not worth $50. It wasn't worth the drive, and honestly, it wasn't worth the effort. The food was underwhelming, the portions were stingy for the price, and the value just wasn't there. My friend loved the place, so maybe they caught a good day, but based on my experience, I don't know if I'll personally be returning. If I'm being honest, if I wasn't so tired then and it wasn't as far as it was, I would've just driven back, returned the food, and gotten a refund.

The cornbread and bread or biscuit was good, but not extraordinary. Those were quite dense and heavy paired with the other food. I loved the banana pudding. Couldn't have been happier with our choice. Reviews I'd seen online mentioned parking is a bit limited and that the restaurant is frequently busy. So we were prepared for that even though we were going on a Thursday mid morning. I think there was an influx of people celebrating graduations because it was in fact very busy. However we got very lucky with parking and happened to come in right as someone was leaving. I was sure we would have a wait for a table, which of course would have been fine, but actually we were seated immediately! Which was super nice and unexpected. The atmosphere is bustling but not in a bad way. The restaurant itself is adorable and has a lot of character. It feels like you're having breakfast at an old friend's house. The service was great and our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. I ordered a specialty coffee, I believe it was the almond joy cold brew, and it was delicious. Strong, which is how I like it and not overly sweet. I ordered the chicken biscuit on the waiter's recommendation and it was absolutely the best fried chicken I've ever had. Juicy and crispy. My husband ordered the pimento cheese omelette and was very happy with it, the bacon was thick cut and smoky and flavorful. The pimento cheese grits that came on the side for me were also a stand out, such great flavor. The biscuits are fantastic and the blueberry basil jam that came with my husband's meal was such a nice touch. We will absolutely make a point to come back to Buttermilk Kitchen next time we visit the Atlanta area.

First things first: the Chicken Biscuit. Buttermilk Kitchen's biscuit is on the crunchy, honey-flavored side. I personally prefer fluffier, more buttery biscuits, so this one wasn't my favorite. That aside, the chicken was crispy and well-seasoned and paired well with the cheese grits. If you ever wanted a dry, crunchy version of Homegrown's Comfy Chicken Biscuit, come give this a shot. I also tried the Hash Bowl, which was a bit underwhelming. It was a *lot* of potatoes compared to the eggs and bacon bits, and there wasn't a lot of seasoning other than the bacon. Would rather recommend one of the other options if you end up visiting. The drinks are good as well, would recommend the matcha latte (not too sweet!) and the French Press coffee.
