We went for lunch. I ordered beef ribs, I got the shredded beef. It's okay, little dry because I don't like the sauce to put it on. The service was something to be desired. Got wrong on my drink order. My favorite was the sweet potato soufflé. The ambience is very family vibes. I think I will try for the breakfast next time.

Fast service during the lunch hour. Great flavor from old school bbq. They have been in business for decades and have get it down perfect.

My favorite barbecue - I grew up on it when it was all over the place. Now there's only one left so I have to plan my trip to come by. The Brunswick stew is the star, followed by the beef, pork, and ribs. ( I've never had the chicken.) Love their garlic bread and breakfast, not necessarily together, but it does sound good Put some south in your mouth!

Finally got to try Old Hickory House in Tucker, GA, after my friends Beth & Luis hyped it up. Got there right as they opened, and the parking lot was already semi-full. (Don't worry, there's extra parking on the side!) This place has strong old-school diner vibes, with great service, a massive menu, and tasty food at a great price. I tried: Barbecue Omelet with Beef: Loaded with beef and paired with thick, non-watery grits - perfection. Short Stack with Bacon: Pancakes were tasty, but I wish they had some crisp edges. The bacon was thick, crispy, and just right. Country Chicken & Gravy Biscuit Platter: The real MVP here! Perfectly battered chicken with flavorful gravy on a biscuit that's crunchy on the outside, buttery on the inside, and doesn't fall apart. All this for just $5! The atmosphere is lively with families, and there's a bar-style seating option if you're dining solo. Nikki, my server, was amazing and made sure my drink never hit the bottom. Highly recommend for a solid breakfast experience. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

We took my aunt here the Sunday before Christmas. She loves veggies and they serve different delicious ones daily on the board. The BBQ pork I had was still great after all these years along with the best Brunswick stew in Ga. Inmho. Ambiance is casual with old pictures on the wall. There are tv's but no music so conversation is encouraged. Service was good even though the after church crowd had the place packed. Bottom line Old Hickory House never disappoints.

Wow! So glad we chose this place on the way home from a road trip this weekend! Some of the best BBQ I've ever had! We ordered online and the 30 min wait was worth it! The place was packed on a Sat. The chopped chicken was perfect in my opinion; not too sauced up so you can be healthy if you want. The thick BBQ on the side was so thick I wasn't sure if it was a side of baked beans at first! Collards were just what I expect from a side of southern greens but my favorite side was tbe potatoes salad! More potatoes than I normally get in each side and a great slightly sweet slightly tangy flavor! Large portion of chicken and not one but TWO delicious cornbread muffins ! I will be back to sit in next time. Staff was friendly and had a southern charm in the air. My dogs in the parking lot loved the smells

Ask the Community - Old Hickory House

I used to frequent the old Hickory house in Charlotte up until they closed. Is this the same group that used to have the places in North Carolina?

A decent size parking lot, a round-robin of customers & I spoke to a few who are repeats- they love it! The restaurant is clean & organized- booths & tables. Charging stations (plugs) available as well. Walk up counter, place order, wait for your number to be called. Do not be in a rush- made-to-order!! Worth the wait!!! If you are not starving- split a meal with a friend- portions are huge & truly DELICIOUS!!! Ask for sauces, if you want. They have tartare, cocktail & homemade hot sauces. Fresh lemons too. Pepsi products, sweet/unsweetened tea... NO ALCOHOL! Outstanding employees! All so nice! Big menu- ask for one if needed, they have scrolling screens & it is hard to figure out. They have fresh & fried options. Here are pics of our meals. All left with to-go's. Note, meals are served in to-go containers, not actual plates. The music is fun but WAY WAY WAY too loud. Heads up. It's located right in the heart of downtown Tucker, with plenty of parking on the side and a spacious interior, including a private dining room for large parties. We came around 2:30 PM, after the lunch rush, so it wasn't too busy. The setup is cafeteria-style -- you grab a tray, walk down the line, and let the servers know what you'd like. Everything is à la carte, with entrées around $6-$8 and sides about $2.50-$3, so you're looking at roughly $15 per person for a full meal -- not bad at all. Everyday they have a different set menu of what they serve so you get a mixture. We ordered a bit of everything. I'm a big meatloaf fan, so I had to try it -- but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my hopes. It didn't look very appetizing and the texture was overly ground and slightly gritty because it was a bit dry. It comes with your choice of gravy or marinara sauce, but honestly, I would've preferred some classic ketchup on top instead. The fried fish was mostly batter with very thin fillets, so there wasn't much substance there either. The country fried chicken, however, was the highlight -- large portion, well-cooked, and flavorful. Just note that once you add the gravy, it loses that crispy texture and becomes soggy. The sides were decent but nothing memorable, and the bread and hush puppies were pretty dry. Since everything is counter-service, there isn't much staff interaction. You pay upfront, find your own seat, and when you're done, you just leave your tray -- there aren't any trash cans to clear your own table. Overall, the experience was just okay. It's a neat place with history and friendly vibes, but the food didn't quite hit the "soul" level I was hoping for. There are definitely other country-style spots I'd try before coming back.

I wanted to also make sure management was there. An older caucasian woman greets me well we have a cordial conversation about my previous experience and my embarrassment at such a nice looking restaurant She was unable to believe this happened at her restaurant. Just plain disbelief and raved about the kitchen and pride that goes into her food to later having to eat those words Again, limited menu what is up with the 4-5 items to chose from. I donot eat steak fries So I just ordered the burger - medium well - not burned and it had no venison mixed or blended meat added The burger came out with old brown tarnished lettuce I sent it back for fresh lettuce . She brought it back they added thousand island dressing when I specially asked for mayo on the side which was also provided. What is going on in the kitchen I took a bittersweet bite anyways and spat it out. Took my utensils which looks like a switch blade in a fairly nice restaurant. bad esthetics decisions I knifed out The center of the uncooked raw meat of the burger and waited patiently for the nice lady to find her way back over to me I offered to just pay and leave. Couldn't have been happier with our choice. Reviews I'd seen online mentioned parking is a bit limited and that the restaurant is frequently busy. So we were prepared for that even though we were going on a Thursday mid morning. I think there was an influx of people celebrating graduations because it was in fact very busy. However we got very lucky with parking and happened to come in right as someone was leaving. I was sure we would have a wait for a table, which of course would have been fine, but actually we were seated immediately! Which was super nice and unexpected. The atmosphere is bustling but not in a bad way. The restaurant itself is adorable and has a lot of character. It feels like you're having breakfast at an old friend's house. The service was great and our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time. I ordered a specialty coffee, I believe it was the almond joy cold brew, and it was delicious. Strong, which is how I like it and not overly sweet. I ordered the chicken biscuit on the waiter's recommendation and it was absolutely the best fried chicken I've ever had. Juicy and crispy. My husband ordered the pimento cheese omelette and was very happy with it, the bacon was thick cut and smoky and flavorful. The pimento cheese grits that came on the side for me were also a stand out, such great flavor. The biscuits are fantastic and the blueberry basil jam that came with my husband's meal was such a nice touch. We will absolutely make a point to come back to Buttermilk Kitchen next time we visit the Atlanta area.

First things first: the Chicken Biscuit. Buttermilk Kitchen's biscuit is on the crunchy, honey-flavored side. I personally prefer fluffier, more buttery biscuits, so this one wasn't my favorite. That aside, the chicken was crispy and well-seasoned and paired well with the cheese grits. If you ever wanted a dry, crunchy version of Homegrown's Comfy Chicken Biscuit, come give this a shot. I also tried the Hash Bowl, which was a bit underwhelming. It was a *lot* of potatoes compared to the eggs and bacon bits, and there wasn't a lot of seasoning other than the bacon. Would rather recommend one of the other options if you end up visiting. The drinks are good as well, would recommend the matcha latte (not too sweet!) and the French Press coffee.
