We had been wanting to try Community Q for literally years and were so disappointed by the quality of the food. The Mac n cheese seems to have such rave reviews but it was honestly almost inedible. It was SO oily and didn't taste like mac n cheese at all. The two meats were fine, nothing to write home about. The brisket had a smoke ring but no Smokey flavor. This bbq spot has been in Decatur for a while now. Depending upon who you ask they get mixed reviews. The regulars seem to like it, and some folks don't. Well, I've been here enough times to form an honest opinion and let's just say I will not be a regular, if I even come back. I will start off saying that the mac and cheese is the star of the show. That, the did get right. Each time I have checked out this place the ribs were an epic fail. On this particular day they were tough and old tasting, the potato salad was nothing but potatoes and heavy Mayo, with no thought of an actual recipe, but instead just thrown together. The brisket was decent, but not great. As people came in other patrons were advising them not to get the pulled pork, that it wasn't good that day. If I ever go back it would be for the Mac and cheese alone. I've had better bbq and do not recommend this establishment. read more

**BLACK PERSON REVIEW** My husband and I were at the DeKalb Farmers Market and decided to try out some BBQ places over here. We settled on Community Q and honestly, we didn't make a bad decision. Let's run it down: We both got the same thing: Rib sandwich with sausage and potato salad but I got an order of the baked beans with mine (pictured). Sausage: phenomenal. No, really. It was firm and flavorful and crusty and had a firm bite. I could have stopped there. Bread: toasted well. Crusty but not burned on one side and soft on the other just the way I like it Ribs: fantastic. Smokey, flavorful. I judge ribs on whether or not I need sauce or extra sauce. 4 out of 5. No extra sauce needed. The sauce they come with is plenty. Tangy and thick. Clings to the meat. Doesn't overpower the meat. If the sausage is the star the ribs are best supporting actor Potato salad: I hate it when places don't tell us the potato salad is red potato salad. That's a different flavor profile and important to know ahead of time. It's not my preference. I also prefer a thicker potato salad - ice cream scoop-able. This was loose. The big chunks of potatoes and boiled eggs were a big plus. No salad cubes or relish though so it wasn't sweet enough. Baked beans:. They were way too sweet which I didn't enjoy.. They added rosemary which enjoyed. They were a bit too firm with some of the brand not being cooked though which told me that they at least weren't doctored canned brands. Go for the meats. So it had been a while since we had barbecue and parking was plentiful on a Friday evening! My hand and I shared a full rack of St Louis earrings which were fantastic! I remember ordering them once in advance for a Super Bowl party but think I did not really get to enjoy a lot that time. I tried the vinegar based sauce in the yellow container at our table which I liked. My husband used the thicker bbq sauce in the red containers. We demolished the ribs and none were leftover. I had the Mac and cheese because it is my favorite in the city. My husband had blacke eyed peas. I also ordered banana pudding for dessert which is always a winner in my book! This is our go-to BBQ spot and have been countless times. Whether you're dining in or getting your order to go, the food is always delicious. And they always get the order right. The ribs are perfectly cooked and not too fatty. The macaroni and cheese is probably one of the best I've ever had and highly recommend trying it. Every serving has a little of the baked cheese on top! The brisket sandwich is a pretty big serving (served with bbq sauce on the side) and I usually always have leftovers. The collard greens and banana pudding are also excellent. We've always receive great service here too. We usually go in and get our order to-go, and we've never waited for more than 5 min for our food. The wait can be a little longer if you're dining in. The inside is decorated with old sports team banners and flags, and lots of pig decorations and drawings. The bathrooms could use a little more attention but they aren't the dirtiest I've seen. You know it always pays to listen to your elders. Last week I was walking past going to a nearby restaurant. However I saw this spot and decided to stop and read their menu. Now as I'm doing so a little elderly man is approaching the door. He says if you never eaten here it's some of the best. Well today I came back. The service was quick fast and simple.I settled on the slice brisket and chose 2 sides collard greens and Brunswick stew. I took a seat.The food soon arrived. From my first bites of the collard greens and Brunswick stew ,I was hooked. The collard were full of flavor. The Brunswick stew seemed to be just a tomato based corn mixture. I've passed by this place quite a few times and finally decided to check it out. I ordered a classic pulled pork sandwich and fries, which is a staple for BBQ restaurants. It had a ton of pork, but the pork wasn't flavorful at all, which is weird because I smelled like smoke walking out of the place, but none of the smoke flavor was in the pork. We got a couple of different items and no one was really that impressed by anything. The fries were good and had a nice seasoning, but they weren't really that crispy. My very favorite bbq restaurant in Atlanta. Their pork is always lean, the sauce is great, I can never choose which sides to get because they're all so good. I think my favorite is the sweet potatoes and kale. I could eat it EVERY day. The fries are always crispy and very well seasoned. Their Mac n cheese is awesome--love those fat noodles. It's always super quick service and they're accommodating like if you want to split a sandwich they'll cut it in half for you! Very clean and the employees are extremely nice. I recently heard they donate their leftovers at the end of the day when they have some which made me love them even more. My only negative comments are they're a little expensive (but worth every cent) and they're not open every day. Never fails I need some bbq on Monday. read more

Take out dinner for 2 We could smell the barbecue as soon as we walked in the restaurant. As we approached the front counter, we were greeted warmly. In fact, all the staff we came in contact with were very friendly. We reviewed  the menu, which offered a wide selection, including various sides. While the prices appeared somewhat on the expensive side, we hoped the taste would justify the cost. Wifey ordered the Pulled Chicken Sandwich with a side of coleslaw, and I opted for the Half Rack of Baby Back Ribs with coleslaw. The lady who took our order advised us to arrive early for dessert as they tend to sell out by 5 PM. While waiting for our food, I couldn't help but notice the spacious indoor dining room, which was relatively empty, with only a few tables occupied by patrons.  The whole restaurant itself was very clean, including the restroom.  I don't remember it taking very long before we were told that our food was ready.  We packed everything up and headed home, and by the time we arrived, our meals were still warm. Wifey thoroughly enjoyed her sandwich, and I loved my ribs, which were tender and practically falling off the bone with excellent flavor. I come here from time to time to get a 1/2 bbq chicken. They have 2 slices of toast that comes with the chicken. They will actually ask you if you want it. I'm paying for it and it's part of the meal why wouldn't I want it? I also got Mac and cheese yesterday. They asked me did I want plastic wear to. I definitely do. I can't eat Mac and cheese with my hands. Also I can use the plastic wear for my meal at home or take it to work for lunch. I asked for the sweet sauce and vinegar sauce. I got the sweet sauce before and the vinegar sauce. I don't know whether I received the vinegar sauce this time. Before they put it in the plastic pouch it was not this spicy at all. Staff is always great, and on this visit they were actually well overstaffed, which is something that you don't see these days. I made a meal of the sides tonight; a cup of Brunswick stew, pickled beets, black eyed peas and collard greens. The black eyed peas and collards are both really delicious. *Experience during Covid-19* This was my first time visiting Community Q BBQ and I was super excited to try it out since my mom and sister rave about it and make it point to visit here when they're visiting the Atlanta area. We stopped in for a late lunch and since we were visiting from out of town were a little disappointed to see that because of the pandemic they are not offering dine-in services, you must carry out. They have a few tables set-up outside the restaurant...you can't eat there either. This left us in a bit of a pickle since we drove about an hour to eat lunch there and didn't want have the food sit for an hour to get it back to the hotel. The staff recommended we should google a nearby park to eat at or sit in our car when we inquired about their outdoor tables....oooookay. Look, I get it. These are very strange times we're living in but We didn't appreciate the sarcastic reply from staff. Fortunately, the restaurant that's a few spaces down from Community Q told us we could use their outdoor tables to eat lunch so HUGE thanks to that staff. :) I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese and Brunswick stew on the side. The stew wasn't my favorite so after a bite I ditched it, but the pulled pork sandwich was a hearty serving. You're going to definitely wanna put some sauce on that bad boy because it was a bit dry but the sauce definitely helps. They offered two sauces to choose from. The mac and cheese was delicious and of the three items was my favorite. On another note, I went back in the restaurant while I dined outside to refill my drink and I got some funny looks from the staff, which was off-putting since if I was able to eat my food there like normal no one would have given me a second look. Between my boyfriend and I, we got some ribs, brisket, pulled pork, mac n cheese, and collards and a lemonade for myself. Staff was really nice and food was out fast, but the food itself was slightly below average for bbq that I've had. The lemonade had a strange bitter aftertaste, the ribs were so dry, and the pulled pork was flavorless. I did like the brisket, Mac n cheese, and collards, but they weren't enough to bring up the rest of the meal. I ordered the brisket sandwich. The meat was very tender. And portion size for the sandwich exceeded my expectations. The bread held up nicely. My friend got pulled pork. No complaints about his dish except he thought the lemonade was very tart. We both had fries. They were ok. I'd like to try other sides next time.
