When you first get to Tennessee you know that you are by law required to try moonshine somewhere. It doesn't really matter where it takes place; as long as it happens. I'm pretty sure you get deported back to your own state if you violate said law. In the spirit of not violating the law I of course figured one of my first tastings of moonshine should be at Old Forge Distillery. It is a family owned place making the moonshine taste that much better. Many places have a requirement (I believe it depends on the county) that you have to pay for the tasting. Not here! With the tasting you get a total of 8 different flavors (6 different moonshines and 2 cocktails). Oh and by the way Amanda, our bartender for tastings was amazing. My tiny communion cup was almost never empty! When it comes to the flavors my top two were Banana's Foster and Oatmeal Cookie...definitely have to try those and maybe take home a bottle...or two...or 6. You know. How much of a loan do you need to take out to bring these delicious babies home?! After the tasting my wife and I found a rum cream tasting too. It also did not disappoint. My favorite was the Haystack which had coconut and chocolate in it. Can't wait to spike my coffee with this! The inside had merch and product prominently displayed and it could be difficult to find something only because the area was so large and so much to look at. There is also a bar in the area in case you need a drink while you shop but you can't take them off of the porch due to state law. Overall would highly recommend coming here to check trying genuine Tennessee moonshine off of your list so you don't get deported! read more

ok moonshine isn't my reg drink .. but let me explain .. i saved a year to take my 85 yr old mom anywhere and do anything she wanted for a week. She picks Gatlinburg Pigeon forge area .. so we get down here and she doesn't have anything in mind that sounds good. hmmm and EVERYTHING i try or suggest ... she hates like im inflicting something on her. grrr. So we did lot of moonshine tasting stops .. everytime she was rude to me or someone else .. or got on my nerves .. she did the moonshine. Frankly i was pissed .. my brother did nothing for her birthday and he was the one that got the gold star for calling the day after her birthday .. thats all he did. She was so rude and grouchy to me and random strangers .. it was just a train wreck. She didn't want to shop, hike, swim .. do a show ..helicopter ride. We did the ride up the mountain . thought she'd like that .. we get on the ski lift thing and are heading up only to find out she thinks it s terrifying vs lovely. so moonshine got me through it. read more

he prices here compared to the other distilleries are a bit pricey but they do have quite a bit more different flavors. They also have a delicious bourbon flavor syrup. We get that every time we come. read more

I had never been in a moonshine distillery prior to today, and I would go as far as to say I don't anticipate that I would go into many more in the future. So, I'm going with a 3 star review, because it was really just not my thing. If it had been a brewery it was a good concept and they had their products prominently displayed and had merch to sell and promote the produce line. All things I'm good with. So the main issue for me was the smell. It really just wasn't pleasant and would have made it hard for me to buy anything here. Now, that being said, there are several distilleries in the area and they had the exact same smell as you walked past, so this isn't something specific to this location. If you are a fan of moonshine, they have plenty of product available here and in a very large variety of flavors. If you like moonshine, there is a good chance you will enjoy stopping in to check these guys out. Just wasn't really my thing. read more

This was an awesome experience. Even during COVID they are trying their best to take precautions. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful to decide what to buy. We were able to save about $60 on our purchase because they were so helpful letting us know specials they had going on. Very fun place and would recommend for first time comers to enjoy a few hours in this area. read more

Once you've seen on distillery, you've seem them all, right? Well, not quite. They have the standard flavors of moonshine, but this place also has some interesting flavors like oatmeal cookie and bananas foster. The also have rum creams in flavors like peaches and cream and root beer float. They also have a working bar, so you can drink while you shop. read more

Must do! So much fun tasting all of the moonshine! They're all pretty delicious (especially the oatmeal cookie) and there's a lot of variety for you to try and bring home. The shop is also quite unique, with nice souvenirs. The little area around has a bunch of cool shops and restaurants. You could easily spend the better part of your day in this quaint little part of town. read more

This was the moonshine place I was most excited to try because I'm a fan of their whiskey, and the moonshine is a little harder to find in KY than some of the others. The moonshine samples are free. You can try the whiskey, gin, rum, or Rock n Rye for 2 bucks a piece. The Rock n rye was what surprised me the most. I wasn't aware they made it. I tried the peach habanero flavor and it was great, but definitely left a burn in the back of my throat. The Honey Fennel was good as well. As far as creativity with their moonshine flavors, the place gets an A+. Bananas Foster, French Toast, and the one I eventually took home, the oatmeal cookie flavor were all fantastic. When sampling, one thing I noticed is that the bartender was not "putting on a show" like the other moonshine places we went to. It was just "which ones do you want?" and pouring them in a cup. No cocktail suggestions or banter. That's the only part I wasn't a fan of. The prices are the same as the other moonshine places. There's not one that's necessarily cheaper than the other. read more

Stumbled upon this little gem while walking to a restaurant nearby. Tasting was free and 8 options from their list--all of which were really decent. Staff on site were extremely friendly and helpful. The biggest bonus, though, was the plate of Moonshine Cake samples. There was clearly a sign that said one per customer but I'm certain we broke that rule. A short time later, we left with a loaf of cake and a jar of shine. Don't pass this shop by! read more

Rob was amazing!!! They are located in a shopping area in a cute little cove called The District in Pigeon Forge. Easy to find, easy to park. They had a band that was playing out front on a Saturday. So good! Rob served us some of the neatest concoctions and mixes of moonshine we've ever tasted. He was entertaining and really cool. There's no charge for the tasting so we tipped generously. Loved it! Don't waste your time down on the Gatlinburg strip. Old forge is a 10/10. read more

This distillery is far more expensive than others in the area, but the merch is much higher quality in my opinion. Dry fit shirts and Legacy caps. My absolute favorite caps that I gladly be pay for. The "moonshine" is comparable flavor to all the others. It is a nice shop with a lot of options for gifts. Staff was very friendly. read more

I visited this establishment on my vacation with my mother. I had previously visited four years earlier and fell in love with their blackberry moonshine. They have since upgraded there area to include a small but cozy lounge to enjoy a cocktail. I believe this moonshine is crafted with experience and with a skilled hand. I always recommend this distillery. Our visit included a visit each night we were there. Jessie the ran the tasting the first night we were there and her knowledge and ability to answer questions on how to pair and drink the moonshine was exceptional. Bethany the manager went above and beyond to help me rectify a purchase I made in haste before the tasting. I cannot remember the bartender in the lounge whom was as well knowledgeable in all the products. I cannot express how much the establishment and the people in there made our trip worthwhile. You could tell that the staff enjoyed working and selling a product that they fully endorsed. read more

I don't feel like this place gets enough recognition for how awesome the sampling experience is. You got 12-14 samples I think and you pretty much get to pick what you want so you aren't stuck with one predetermined "lineup" of samples. Did I mention it's free? read more

Even during the mayhem of the July Fourth festivities, we were warmly welcomed and treated to a tasting of 10 different flavors of Moonshine, the right amount of humorous service and no pushy sales attempts. The atmosphere was fun and lively and the Moonshine bottles (Mason jars) with cool labels make a great gifts for those back home. Recommended by our moonshine pouring specialist: Remove the moonshine-soaked cherries from the chocolate cherry moonshine and dip or drizzle them in chocolate (dark, milk or white chocolate). We started our visit with the free samples of moonshine, the peach was delicious! Then we moved on into their new bar where Shane the bartender was amazing! He created unique drinks using their brand of alcohol for my husband and I, both to our specific tastes. He was fun and we sit, drank, and chatted for a little while. Word to the wise: if you're waiting 60+ minutes for dinner at Old Mill, scooting over here for free samples of moonshine and rum cream on an empty stomach will quickly sneak up on you! Cocktail bartender was happy to whip up an off menu creation with coffee moonshine and coconut chocolate rum cream, so delicious. read more

This is the best distillery in the area. Hands down. We come to the area every year and nothing tops this one. Also, its whiskey..so if you like liquor that doesn't taste like CORN..this is your place. Pre virus they actually had a small "bar" making craft beverages. Today in the virus times, we got 10 tastes for just a tip. We did $10 for the 2 of us but he said 10 tastes was about FOUR shots. So happy hour priced cocktails basically. We didn't try everything. I think they had about 15 flavors. French toast is INCREDIBLE, if you like fruity the Key Lime and Pineapple were very tasty. They also have a seperate cream bar where we tried about 6 more rum based cream liquors including peanut butter, root beer float and watermelon. Wonderful gift shop full of cocktail treasures and friendly staff. Go there first then walk around the old mill area and Patriot park loop and burn it off . Free parking can't be beat. read more

Did someone say moonshine tasting.... oh man did they have lots of moonshine, in all different flavors. (The oatmeal was awesome, and the vanilla bean and the coffee.). This place also has there own rum, vodka, and 9 year old whiskey. Friendly staff, lots of moonshine, lots of souvenir type stuff in a good quality, check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Had to find a server and ask for one. - the outdoor area we sat at is enclosed & gated. A door separates this outdoor area from the inside dining room. In spite of this, 10 minutes after being seated, a separate employee came out and simply said "do yall have leashes?" 1- of course we do, you saw us walk them in. 2- no greeting or "hey, I'm blah blah"... cold & impersonal. 3- why bother with the cost of a gated enclosure if pets have to be leashed anyway? We've been to many pet-friendly restaurants. You are NOT pet-friendly. You happily took our money for the meal, and added a 20% gratuity yourselves (which was not earned btw), but you barely did enough to accommodate our pups, let alone be considered "friendly". We didn't feel they were welcome, and certainly no "friendly" environment experienced. We won't be back. See how Calhouns defines "pet friendly". Y'all might learn something. To diners with pups: You want "pet friendly"? Skip this place.

We purchased TSW Chocolate Cream, Rocky Red Flat and Pigeon Forge Blush. Our tour also included a moonshine operation demo by one of the bartenders. It was educational of course. We sampled 14 varieties of Moonshine and one specialty vodka sample. Everything was tasty, the pickle one was a bit weird, but still pretty good. Your sampling wristband earns you a $5 discount off merchandise purchases but not everything in the store. The wristbands are stackable, with no limit, so if you have people in your group who don't want to buy anything be sure to ask them for their wristbands to help discount purchased for others who are purchasing something at the store. They also provide additional discounting on top of the wristband discount to Military/Veterans. The store is organized, clean, has a lot of great merchandise, varieties of Moonshine, and other adult beverages. They also have a cocktail bar and a small stage where live music is scheduled throughout the day. We purchased 3 different types of Moonshine - a Cherry Limeade, a Chocolate Coffee Cream Liqueur, and the Banana Pudding. All three are delicious and I would definitely buy them again next go-around. All-in-all, it's a great spot to have a little fun at an affordable cost while visiting Gatlinburg, TN. I recommend them if you are shopping in the area.
