Was excited to go to old fields. But i have to say we all were very disappointed with our meals. My burger was dry and my bacon was burned. It was over cooked and only had a small piece of bacon that didn't cover the burger. My friend also ordered a burger medium and was dry and well done. Also my other friend ordered the fish and chips and it was over breaded and greasy. The cod was tasteless. Our bill wasn't cheap. It was overpriced and not worth it. However when we said the cod was disappointing she didn't offer anything to compensate. We will never return read more

We placed our order for our sit down dinner and added a take out dish to bring home to a family member who was working late. We asked for a check when we were finished with dinner and when the waitress brought it she didn't bring the take out we had ordered with everything else. We paid for everything then sat and waited 1/2 hour for the take out to come. Waitress kept saying the kitchen was backed up but I believe she never submitted the order. Very, very disappointing to be paid up and ready to go and have to wait 1/2 hour for the rest. read more

I recently came here for a birthday dinner. There were 9 of us. Our bill came to roughly $500. As our dinner was finishing and we were sitting around talking before we were getting ready to leave, we pretty much got kicked out of the restaurant. They asked us to leave. I just spent $500 and you're asking me to leave? They needed the table. While I get that it is a restaurant and you're making money, I'm also a paying customer. We've been here before and it's been good. But after this, they don't deserve my business. I'll gladly spend $500 somewhere else where I won't be rushed. read more

Oldfield's is so awesome! I've lived in this area forever but can't believe I only started coming here just in the last few years. Service is always great and I love the atmosphere. Went here for the first time today for dinner. The atmosphere was nice, lighting was dimmed with some cool old portraits in the wall. We started off with the spinach dip which came with pita bread and it was excellent ! Well seasoned and tasted fresh. They had some local beers which was cool. One of the best burgers I've had was there. Not too greasy and it came on a sesame bun. I ordered the Greenlawn burger which has cheese, bacon and onion rings on it. I had to add the fried egg on top because ever since I tried eggs on a burger I can't have it any other way!!!The potato wedges were tasty and crispy. The tables had tic taco toe to play while waiting. They also had some other game with numbers and dice but I had no clue what it was so if anyone knows what it is please let me know! Only complaint I had was that we had to wait a while each time we needed to order a drink or needed something from the waiter. Great place though! read more

Pro: Food was amazing! I had the breaded chicken and waffles & Mac n cheese. The chicken was crispy and salty on the outside and smooth and juicy on the inside. It was so yummy that it didn't even need to be dipped in sauce! The Mac n cheese came steaming in a skillet and was fabulous as well! This is an amazing restaurant. I've been here several times and the food is always wonderful. Everything from the shrimp and grits to a veggie burger has been awesome. Cocktails are wonderful too. Food was average but a little overpriced for such small portions. The best part were the fries. I ordered the Caesar salad and it was giant leaves of lettuce which is just a pet peeve of mine. No one wants to sit there with a steak knife and cut their lettuce. Food took a very long time to come out and we also barely saw our server. I've wanted to come here for quite some time, what better moment than my birthday? We were seated in a very crowded area by the bar. It was comfortable enough, just people leaning over us due to the crowded bar was annoying. We had the spinach dip to start, which was very good. Unlike most, it was not overly greasy. The vegetable was married well with the cheese. Tasty pita slices too. I had the duck french dip, and it was quite good, except the duck was not really the standout part of it that I was hoping it would be. I had the brown sugar pie for dessert, thinking it would be similar to the Momofuku Milk bar crack pie that I like. It was good, but didn't match up. Old Fields repackaged as Ella's. Nice trick, and I was fooled. Never understood the lure of Old Fields, and this place is the same garbage. Don't be fooled by the crowds that clearly have zero palette. Go to Wendy's or McDonalds....seriously. The burgers take you back to summer camp days...with a flat burger sitting in water. Chicken that is mostly breading. Succotash is what the side was called, not sure what it was other than corn niblets and Lima beans (but was admittedly better than the main meal). Limited bar....like when you ask for Stoli or Bombay and they don't carry that. It was a $100 bill wasted. read more

I love the atmosphere of this place. It's right near the train tracks which is oddly cozy. Inside is a beautiful fire place and cozy wood booths. The service was fast and friendly. They give complementary corn bread with a honey butter glaze which is amazing. I got the goat cheese and beet salad with steak. It was tasty, the steak was good. We had dinner last night. The restaurant is very quaint and the roaring fireplace gave it a very cozy feel. The staff was very friendly. I had the skirt steak that was very good. It came with mashed red potatoes and roasted asparagus. Husband had the roasted chicken. He enjoyed it but would have ratcheted a fish meal. The only fish wax a fried fish and chips and crab cakes. Salmon would have been good to have on the menu. I was very disappointed in the lobster bisque soup. It was nothing more than a fish broth. It was not the typical bisque soup. I told the server there must be a mistake as it was only a broth with literally two very tiny pieces of what I assumed was lobster meat, smaller than the size of my pinky finger nail, I was told, no that is the bisque, it's "puréed" lobster bisque. It was not thick it was more a broth. He must have detected my disappointment as he returned with a thimble of lobster meat. I guess he tried to do the right thing. A little pricey. Great local eatery. The service is always top notch, they make you feel like no matter how many other patrons are in the restaurant, that you are their top priority. I loved their Beef and Guinness stew, which has since disappeared from the menu (hoping for a comeback). Their steak is fantastic; my favorite is the skirt steak, which is also available as part of the Sunday brunch with eggs. A new favorite is their fish and chips; the fish is expertly beer battered and perfectly crunchy...my only gripe is that for $17 i'm only getting 2 pieces of fish. They don't take reservations for small parties so that can lead to serious wait times on friday/saturday evenings, so plan in advance to go before 7 or wait. read more

We came here for date night on Friday night and it was extremely crowded. We were told 30 minutes for our table, however, due to this wait, the hostess Logan treated us to complimentary drinks! We were seated after 20 minutes at a nice table. We ordered the fried calamari and honey truffle ricotta for appetizers. Both were delicious. Tonight was a total disappointment compared to my last meal there. Sat out again - in the back this time. Some cushions on the benches would have been welcome. Service this time was just awful. "Confused" our table # and waited forever so simple order of burgers. And we ordered as soon as we sat down so we could eat and not get too cold. Waited an hour for 2 burgers - multiple BS excuses - other folks sat after us and got their meals before us!! Made no sense at all. Different waiter/waitress each time - fiasco - and this time burgers were not even cooked as requested! No soda refills - just was not what we expected since last time was truly excellent - wouldn't even tell manager to come out as we asked for. Just terrible!! read more

Chef Jovani is masterful at BBQ. His house-made BBQ sauce is a staple, a must have!!! Keep an eye out for his house specials. He is creative and accommodating. All sauces are made in-house, he orders prime steak cuts, all under Jovani's guidance. The cuisine is just delicious. The manager, Mike, is well versed in his knowledge of whiskey, his suggestions are always on point. Make sure you work with Angela (server), she will make sure your experience at Old Fields is classic and enjoyable. A fantastic world class steak house. Currently operating as a brick oven pop up called ellas. Incredible food. They have tables for the regulars who absolutely can't live without it. The pizzAs are amazing. The salad literally roughy tears to my eyes. Roasted tomatoes on fresh greens that are obviously so local the greens haven't realized they've been picked yet. While we don't have any steak houses in Centerport, Greenlawn provides us with one of the best. I love the ambiance of this place! From the delicious food to the great beer, Old Fields has everything I need to satisfy my appetite. Although I always enjoy dining at Old Fields, eating here in the winter is my favorite. Old Fields is always great. The atmosphere is warm, and has lots of old pictures of Greenlawn and how things used to be. Always interesting to look at. We usually sit at the bar and have drinks and dinner. The beer is good and the cocktails are great, tons of options. They are known for their steaks, and live up to their reputation. The burgers are also a great option as well. If you're ever in Greenlawn, I would definitely check out Old Fields. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Old Fields for some years now and this place just keeps getting better and better! The food is always excellent and the staff are friendly and attentive. It's a pretty popular spot, so be prepared to hang out at the bar for 30-45 mins on a Friday or Saturday night whilst a table becomes free. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars in this review is down to the space limitations of this place while waiting to be seated - the bar is relatively small, there's not much room to stand around and it can get cramped quickly. My hubby particularly likes the filet mignon they do there and of course the rotating beer selection. As for me I just LOVE their risotto and the spinach artichoke dip is to die for. Overall a great place to go but try to get there early ahead of the dinner crowd. I recommend Old Fields - try it once and you'll love it! read more

Have been to both locations port jeff and green lawn and with both they are a Wonderful experience over all! The staff is super friendly and well trained. The managers always stop by your table to see how you are doing. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Great for a date, friends, family and more! The food is to die for. What they've done to the ole' tried and true Old Fields has been great... Love the happy hour oysters....there was a very nice little happy hour bar menu, with beer and drink specials ...wish the other happy hour menu had continued...but it's not in effect now...maybe again? The steaks and burgers are a nice solid choice...good steak fries...and the service is tip-top... Had the striped bass special the other night...while it was very tasty, the portion was about half what I'd expect...luckily, my girlfriend didn't finish her steak, so I didn't leave hungry. ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE! How could this place be voted top 10 in Newsday....who is buying off who? Last few times food has been slipping, burgers not being cooked too right temp.....little if any marinade. Bad ispwich clams, but this time will be the last for good. Order apps, decent, dirty plates sit in front of us for an hour.....while we waited for dinner. Took an hour in between. Dinner arrives, Red Snapper Special and Filet Mignon Medium....Snapper was Tuna cooked to death well done.....you advertise Red Snapper and we are served tuna. Really? Top ten and we don't know the difference between Tuna and Snapper? Filet Medium, was BLACK N BLUE! Stone cold and raw in the middle. Top ten and you're known for steaks and you cant cook it to a proper medium. No patience for the lack of care to tention to detail. The Tuna/Snapper was probably older tuna that the house needed to get rid of before it went bad, hey lets season it up, put some sliced vegetables on top and we will call it Red Snapper.....who will know? Doesn't the chef make the specials and set the menu? How does he/she not know that they are using tuna instead of snapper? The filet there is NO excuse for. But hey the're top ten......manager was apologetic but at that point too many mistakes made. Never Again! read more

My first review. I never planned on writing a review for this place, but my last visit left me empty and I need to get this off my chest. First let me say that I am NOT a picky eater. I want to support a local restaurant like this, but they need to really improve their game before I go back. One star is for the waiter who was very nice, and the other star is for the beer selection. My wife and I went here a few days ago for dinner. Our past experiences were mixed, and I know that this place has been trying to re-invent itself since its remodeling a few years ago. We were reluctant to go back, but we had a gift certificate to use so we went. Service was fine, and I give them more stars than this review for their beer selection and the $8 23oz. offer on some very fine beers. The problem was the food. My salad hardly resembled the description of "fresh garden vegetables". What I got was a plate with a handful of frisee and other lawn clippings with about a quarter inch of a carrot sliced thinly. The dressing was flat. YAWNSVILLE DADDY-O! Big disappointment. It's a freaking salad! The easiest thing to make nicely. Appetizer of macaroni and cheese...again another yawner. They really need to work on that. I think they should model this dish on the Beechers M&C recipe. For $9 I got maybe a cup and a half of thinly flavored M&C. They try to make it fancy by serving it in a small cast iron skillet. Dinner...I ordered the roasted chicken. It was served in yet a larger cast iron skillet that just didn't match the meal. I will give them kudos for boning the half chicken which makes it nicer to eat. The chicken flavor was just OK. They take the time to brown the skin nicely, then ruin it by simmering it in liquid which of course turns the skin into rubber. Why bother??? Barely any rice and the rest was forgettable. Very thin on flavor. My wife...not being too confident in the menu played it safe and went with a burger and onion rings. Her plate was filled with fried onions, and not onion rings, so I think they need to look at a photo of onion rings to see what they really look like. She said her burger was good, BUT...she went to pick up some onions and found a foot long hair fried in with them..YUCK and real downer that only solidified our skiddish opinion of this restaurant. Needless to say my wife is done with this place. Not wanting to make any scene, I quietly told the waiter what we found and he offered a replacement which we declined. He removed the charge from the bill..kudos. So...I will not be going back any time soon for food, but I still have part of a gift card to use so perhaps I will have a beer or two at the bar some day. I really hope that someone from the restaurant sees this and takes a critical look at their offerings. I want to like this place, but they make it tough to keep coming back. read more
