I visited Old Chicago in Columbia, SC on Friday at approximately 4:30 PM with my wife and sister. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience we've had here, which was especially disappointing because we've visited multiple times in the past and always recommended this restaurant to others. When we arrived, we were told the pizza oven was down. That wasn't a huge issue, so I specifically asked our waitress if it would affect anything else on the menu. She initially told us it would not. After we were seated and ordered our appetizer, we were then informed that the Spinach & Artichoke Dip couldn't be made because the pizza oven was down. That directly contradicted what we had just been told. If other menu items were unavailable, we should have been informed before ordering. My wife ordered an Irish Mule, and it was poorly made. We've ordered drinks here before without any issues, so this was surprising and disappointing. I ordered the French Dip, and it was one of the worst I've ever been served. The sandwich arrived already completely soaked through with au jus, making the bread soggy and falling apart before I even picked it up. The au jus itself was unusually thick and slimy instead of being a light dipping sauce. The presentation looked rushed and careless, as if no attention had been paid to plating. The service only got worse from there. After our food was delivered, no one came back to check on us, ask how everything was, or offer refills. We eventually had to flag someone down just to get our check. I also think the wait staff could benefit from better training in professionalism and guest interaction. The overall service felt awkward and inattentive. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that my wife and I have always enjoyed coming here. We brought my sister because we genuinely believed she'd have a great experience based on our previous visits. Instead, it was honestly embarrassing. Being from New York City and Boston, we've eaten at plenty of restaurants, and this visit simply didn't meet even basic expectations. We spent $93.47, and unfortunately, it felt like money wasted. This wasn't just a mediocre meal--it was an experience that made me feel embarrassed for recommending the restaurant in the first place. I sincerely hope this was just an off day because Old Chicago has been a great establishment in the past. However, based on this visit, I can't recommend it until the food quality, communication, and service improve. read more

The restaurant was casual. Unfortunately, the air conditioner was out and it was a hot May evening in South Carolina. They only had one fan going and it just wasn't enough. The servers here were so attentive and hilarious in our side conversations. The place was expansive inside and I feel like this could be a spot to get a brewsky and kick it during a home game if you don't want to fight everyone trying to get to one of the stadiums. We had a new guy. He was nice. We went as a work group. Many pizzas were ordered. We had salad and f drinks also. I had a few slices of the farmer, daughter pizza and two Long Island ICs. The Long Island seeds were not made very strong, they were what was expected. I've had some coworkers at my table that had margaritas, they forgot the soul in the first one and two were strawberry margaritas. I heard that those were made with a nice kick. The pizza was OK, I wish the sun-dried tomatoes weren't burned to unrecognition. First & foremost, great menu with a reasonable amount of options. I'll be honest I did not have a Pizza but what I did have was some GREAT wings and a surprisingly great batch of the Nachos which when I think of a Pizza joint I wouldn't think the nachos would be phenomenal but I was wrong. Huge shoutout to the bartender Brooke who was customer service forward, timely with checking in to see if I need another beer, or anymore food. No complaints with the employees here at all. The craft beer selection on tap & in bottles/cans was impressive! Highly recommend. Only complaint is the bathrooms need some repair work & love. Also I'd highly recommend re-sealing that bar top. The texture makes you think you're stuck to a piece of duct tape when you pickup your elbows off the bar. Overall 4 out of 5 stars & will recommend Old Chicago! read more

I used to love Old Chicago Pizza and Tap when I was in college. It was a staple in the Midwest. Good pizza, beer and sporting events. We stopped in for a quick dinner before my daughter headed out to some college party. Overall just not impressed with the pizza, drinks or ambiance. I used to love coming here for their lunch special! Today, my service was great, so no complaints there. However, the a/c was broken. It was so warm that I thought I would pass-out several times. I keep my house at 78 or 79 degrees in the summer, so I like a warm restaurant. The fact that it was hot to me says it was HOT. There was no sign or anyone letting us know prior to seating us. Then, I found out they unfortunately no longer do the lunch special. So me and three kids drinking water had a bill of $80 after tip, with everyone complaining about how hot it was. read more

Took the family to grab some dinner after going to Edventure (which was great). We walked in and we're seated promptly. A little snug for the size of our family (9). We ordered a large thin crust, a large, deep dish, and a garden salad. We ordered the food and it came pretty quickly about 10 minutes later. The food was average. Old Chicago was alright, I wouldn't say that there was anything wrong with it, but nothing that really stood out as exceptional either. I got the mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders to eat (don't judge me I had pizza the night before,) and a margarita to drink. The mozzarella sticks were not very good, and the tenders and fries were pretty average. The margarita wasn't great either. In addition, the restaurant was pretty dark, and most of the TVs were broken and malfunctioning. All-in-all, I may or may not stop by again, but I would definitely classify it as a "mediocre" pizza restaurant. read more

On a trip to Columbia my friend and I decided to try a different style pizza restaurant for lunch, one that offered many options however again I forgot to take a photo of the menu. When we entered it was pretty quiet with many empty seats. Our server, Jojo greeted us promptly and stated she would be back to get our drink order. Given how quiet the restaurant was we were surprised she didn't take our drink order right away. She was slow to return but eventually we placed our order for drinks and appetizer. Again, the appetizer was slow to come, however when it did arrive it was piping hot. The mozzarella sticks were lightly breaded and had the best cheese pull. The Italian nachos were also good along with the Sicilian pepperoni rolls. We decided to have an individual hand tossed pizza with garlic cream sauce as the base, chicken, bacon and mozzarella cheese. The pizza could have used more sauce. My friend had the Italian sandwich with a veggie side. Again the food took a bit of time to arrive, but yet again it was piping hot and so delicious. The marina sauce here is absolutely amazing. The quantity of food was so plentiful we took lots home. The prices were good too...all this for $48. Although Jojo appeared to be tied up when we were initially seated she definitely redeemed herself checking on us frequently and even bringing an order of fries because she had heard me mention that to my friend. Parking was also easy given the location of the restaurant although I suspect this could change when the college students return. Overall good food at very affordable pricing. read more

I visited here on Labor Day. I took my family out for something special while we were trying to make the most of my unexpected day off. I cannot say enough good about how amazing their specialty pizzas are here!! The Farmer's Daughter on a gluten free crust was amazing!! My wife loved her pizza also! The waiter said she picked their best seller, but I can't remember what it was since I'm writing this review 2 days later (shame on me). But that's the impact this place had. I was so impressed with our food, the atmosphere (3rd time here, first time eating outside), and our WAITER- Scott- was epic. He took such great care of my family! It has been an extremely long time since we received service that extraordinary. He knew all about the menu, answered our questions flawlessly, was VERY attentive to our table, and the beverages never ran low. On top of that he interacted with my kids, made them laugh, and even surprised our youngest for his birthday. We WILL be back. We love this place. And I HIGHLY suggest you check it out if you haven't. They have delicious gluten free options and a ton of great menu items overall. You will not go hungry here! Being that they serve Chicago and Detroit style pizza you can guess that their pies (even the thin crust) come with a lot of dough. Nevertheless, it was some of the freshest dough I've tasted. We came in on what was a cold and rainy New Years Eve afternoon and yet they still had a fairly steady flow of patrons, which for me was a very good sign. We don't eat deep dish pizza hardly ever and we made the mistake of ordering too much food. We easily could have shared two, maybe three. However, they were all very good. My husband and I loved the Buffalo Chicken Detroit deep dish. Amazing flavors! If I'm splitting hairs, one of the pizzas was a little overcooked, it took a while for our one of our appetizers and our pizzas to come out, and the veggies on mine were overwhelming because they were cut too big, in my opinion. But if you come in and have a drink while waiting, they have lots of TV's with sports on that make it a fun atmosphere to just sit in. Everything we ate had great flavor though, and it was hot and fresh. Nothing tasted bland or reheated. If I ever find myself in Columbia, SC, I would definitely want to come back here. read more

Despite it being a Texas-based hospitality conglomerate, drove 45 min. Bad all the way around. 3 beers/ciders on the website and in-restaurant menu - Out. 3 happy hour apps - Out. Thin crust pizza - Out (huh?). Salad greens old. Beer glasses dirty. Pizza toppings burned. Service unfamiliar with menu, slow, inattentive, and overly apologetic without any making up for the misses. Washrooms smelly, dirty, and broken. The pizza was decent. Not bad, but not the best I've ever had. We got the kids fries and Mac and cheese. I would skip the fries next time, mediocre at best. Service was okay, I think our guy was relatively new. I ordered one drink but got something different. They didn't actually have what I ordered (from the menu). He also didn't come back to refill drinks but he did refill them when we left (which was good because it all was a little salty). Ambiance is fine... Couple of high and low lights 1- music bingo...super fun. Definitely a cute idea. We missed the directions but still had a great time even though we were making up the rules as we went along. 2. The dry lemon wings were noteworthy. They were probably the best wings I had in 2023. Huge portions are available and we enjoyed them throughly. 3. The service was mediocre at best. They were really slow and hardly anyone was there but food and service still look a long time. Our server was training someone so that is also a different dynamic. My SO is diabetic and only drinks unsweet tea with Splenda. Because it is a more unique order we are used to having to remind wait staff. This team really never got it. We had to ask for everything, more napkins, wipe, straws, even silverware. They just didn't seem to have a lot of empathy for the diner experience. Bottom line: would be we go back? I'm a white male doctor in my mid sixties. My wife and I visited the bar and were surprised to find out that they didn't have a single bottle of wine. We laughed it off and ordered pizza and beer. About a half hour later the manager came to our table and informed us that they would not serve us anything. These liberal women are an embarrassment even in Columbia. My wait time was estimated at 15 min; at 17 min I took the 3 min walk to pick them up, only half my order was ready (FYI, the place was so dead they were only seating people in half the place and zero people were sitting at the bar); 10 min later I had my order. The wings were overcooked, dry, cold, and utterly flavorless. This place must be great on Saturday night when college kids can't find anything else but, crap, they could put at least a slight bit of effort into off nights; currently they do not. Decided to give it another shot this week and hope that things had improved, but unfortunately the service is still very much lacking. Our waitress was sweet but everything took forever, starting from when it took probably 10 minutes to be asked for our drink orders. We were in South Carolina visiting family and we wanted some pizza. This place is great! It's in an old building so the inside is rustic and homey with a sports bar-like atmosphere. I ordered the cauli=crust Chicago 7 pie and it was generously topped and tasted great!...and I'm a New Yorker! The cauli crust is a NY-style thin crust, with a good taste and texture. The server was very nice and always had a smile. She made sure our drinks were always topped off. She had one mix-up but made it better quickly and with an apology. I ordered a gluten-reduced Stne D-IPA, and she brought a normal Stone IPA. I brought it to her attention, as even though it could have made me sick, I was able to easily identify that it was not correct and bring it to her attention. I would have paid for that one, but no one else in my party likes beer. The server forgot to remove it from the bill, and she quickly corrected it with a smile when I brought it to her attention. Overall a great experience and plan to hit this spot before we leave for some more tasty food and a great atmosphere. read more

Terrible restaurant management. As a family of 4, we walked in around 4pm, on a Saturday. To a restaurant with one table full, and were told it would be 20 minutes before we could be seated. We questioned why, due to the amount of empty seats. We were told because the kitchen is going through shift change. I asked if we could be seated and order drinks. we were told No, only at the bar (we had kids that couldn't sit st the bar). This is poor management and a great way to turn customers away. Really poor service during lunch. It was slow and I think our waitress had two tables at the most. Waited forever to get our pizza. When it came out she warned me about the hot pan but it wasn't. The pan was Luke warm and the pizza was cold. Disappeared so no complaining and tried to get another server just standing there to help and said was not our waiter so couldn't help me then went back to the kitchen where all the staff was hiding. I have been at night and service was not great but at least brought food out hot. Just don't go during lunch we barely made it out in an hour. Expect 1.5 hours to get your food and your bill. A friend and I went to Old Chicago last night for a bite to eat. It wasn't crowded at all. We went to the bar and found it to be very dark. It Was also very cold in the establishment. The bartender was freezing. The food was subpar we got the nachos and the toppings were not sticking to the chips some of the chips were soggy. Service wasn't bad but it took a while for my pizza to come out. I got the the Thai pie it was drenched and some kind of sauce that made the pizza soggy as well. Servers and bartenders have always been good. Kitchen has always been terrible, entirely too long to get anything done. Consistently over 3-5 visits it's been an hour and a half to get some chicken strips. With 4 tables, realistically how long should it take to deep fry chicken strips and fries? My friends and I have began playing a game on how long it will be before receiving the order. This place has got to do something about this, it makes customers tip less to the servers & bartenders who deserve a good tip. read more
