Steak pie with chips and root vegetables

Around 4:30 on a Wednesday we stopped for an early dinner before driving into the Highlands. Not our first choice, or even second. The choice we made, based on the outside menu display was The Old Bank on the main highway. Odd time to dine so our expectations were low. The soups looked intriguing and both indulged in Potato chicken with leek soup, a thick purée with large chunks of potato and smaller pieces of chicken. The leeks added flavor only. Our eye lite up at the first bite. Someone in the kitchen knew how to make tasty soup. The artisan bread pared well with the soup. Next a steak pie with lighter than air crust and roasted root vegetables did not disappoint. Well flavored and seasoned meat, tender and moist. The last main was the Welsh rabbit, a melted cheddar cheese over that artesian bread. A few purple marinated onions for garnish once gain made this dish visually appealing. Tasted great. Maybe they used local cheese . Could only eat one slice and asked for a take away box, as these food were too good to leave behind. Good service, great chef in a homey atmosphere. Don't let the Old Bank be anything other than your first choice. Save room for the cakes.

We were driving and needed some lunch.Callander looked like a nice town so we stopped and walked around. We were able to find off street parking and choose the Old Bank for some lunch. The waitress was very helpful and we really enjoyed our lunch.

Oh my gosh!!!!!! WhT acute town!! Driving back to the airport from a beautiful drive around Loch Lomond and stumbled into the gem of a restaurant. Had the seafood chowder which was delish with a garlic aioli to die for. Wife had squash risotto which was also great. Sticky toffee pudding almost put me on my knees!!!!

Cheese and Chutney sandwich on wheat.

Staff friendly and service good but needs a refurbishment and food average. Quiet too.

Previous experience on two separate days taught me that you book the Lochside Venachar if you want…read moreto eat there at the weekend. So I did, and the next day we drove up to Loch Venachar, dowsed ourselves in iced loch water (for the Ice Bucket Challenge) before parking up and running for the warmth. Funnily enough it was busy but not rammed this time, and there was parking easily available, so I guess the moral is book if it's UK school summer holiday time, otherwise you might get away with it. Lochside Venachar has a café overlooking the loch of the same name in the Trossachs. Next to it is a boat and fishing hire place if you fancy a wee sail. The café is small but bright with huge windows and a sun terrace onto the loch. The menu is very much a restaurant menu, with fish being the speciality. I went for the scallops to start and the chicken for a main. The food came quickly, and I would say the scallops were pretty damn good. Nicely seared, professionally presented, and with accompaniments that complimented the dish really well. I expected I would be less keen on the chicken and I was right. Again it came beautifully presented with well-cooked accompanying veg, but the chicken was just ever-so-slightly dry and the dish didn't wow me. To be honest it was almost a five but that fact and the front-of-house not collecting my payment make it a high four.

Unbeatable setting and well worth the detour. Dining room overlooks the loch. We had coffee,…read morescones, and a light lunch, which were all excellent.
