Had such a delicious dinner from a friends recommendation. We got a LOT of food- fish chowder, truffle fries, mussels, hake, grilled plaice, and Innis and Gun beer. Drove up to Callendar today and stopped for a bite to eat. Chose Mhor Fish because we've been to their bigger restaurant at Balquhidder! Fantastic fish chowder and some of the best chips we've had. Crisp, hot and try their garlic ones. Well worth the stop!!! read more

One of the things I love about Scotland is that tucked away in the most remote places are wonderful businesses producing the best for the rest of the world. Brewdog, Bruichladdich and Mhor Fish Sometimes the Scots are the last to know. Callander is not a big place but somehow they got this. The Lewis siblings got together and decided to create the best fish and chip shop on the planet. Completely non-veggie friendly, they use beef fat for their frying oil. In fact, everything is chosen to provide the best food experience for the patrons. But the main thing is - IT IS A BLOODY CHIPPIE. How cool is that? What if there was a little pub in Northern Scotland that decided to become the best Belgian beer purveyor. All of the locals are sipping Le Chouffe and fabulous Krieks. This place does make more sense. Belgium is a bit of trek, but Mhor Fish is stupidly close to some stunning fresh fish right out of the sea - hours from water to lips. So get yourself to Callander, you probably already go. Go to the takeaway window or walk into the cafe. Have the best fish supper of your life and then walk around the town. And then think to yourself Scotland - it is not a bad place to be. read more

Oh, holy mother of fish and chips; Mhor Fish is certainly serving up a tasty rendition of the British classic! We chose to stop in for some fish and chips whilst in Callander and were so very glad we did. With some interesting specials and funky twists on traditional British chippy dishes, the majority of just couldn't stray from a helping of battered haddock and chips. Decor-wise, this is far swisher than your average chippy and makes for a pleasant place to sit in and dine, as we did. We were welcomed warmly and it wasn't long till we ordered and waited in anticipation; the salt and vinegar aroma teasing us by the minute. Piping hot and as fresh as fresh can be, I was presented with a glorious haddock supper and chips. One which I scoffed down with great speed. - It. Was. Delicious! The fish batter was plump and well-seasoned and the chips were perfectly fluffy, refusing to fall into the dreaded 'dry chip' syndrome which so many chippy chips sadly fall victim to. All so delicious, not overly greasy, and just what we were looking for in Callander come dinner-time with rumbling bellies. Portion-wise, it wasn't overly generous, just enough to make you feel satisfied, perhaps craving a little bit more. Price-wise, it was a little on the high side. But it is a gourmet fish and chip parlour and the quality and freshness of ingredients reflects this. I think I'd find myself craving a Mhor fish supper when I'm next in Callander. And I recommend you wander that way too! read more

What a brilliant wee fish bar. We stopped in Callander on our way camping last month, and the smell of salt and vinegar coming from the crowd of people enjoying the sunshine in the town square got our bellies rumbling. When we found Mohr fish we learned a few things about Callander, namely that everyone seems to know everyone else and if you're an unfamiliar face, people are extra lovely and like to offer up suggestions and/or chat before sending you on your way. While we waited for our fish, we were treated to excellent chat from both the locals and the staff behind the counter. All fish is fried to order, which makes the wait a little longer but the taste is absolutely worth it. The fish was perfectly cooked and went down an absolute treat enjoyed on a bench in the sunshine. A brilliant stop on our trip and one we would absolutely make again. read more

Great fresh fish fried in dripping. Beats the Tail End's pants off (with the new owner, old tail end was better). However £3.30 addition to make a single fish into a supper when you sit in??? Chips are just a £1 to when you get takeaway and the portion you get when you sit in is tiny. Don't skimp on the chips! THIS IS FISH AND CHIPS 101 Regardless of that little annoyance this place is top notch. Pies are excellent and oysters fresh and sweet. Callander doesn't quite know how lucky it is to have this on the high street. If the Michelin guide rated this it would be 3 stars and worthy of a detour. This is how chippies used to be. read more

This is a great chippy that is also a restaurant. It has a fantastic selection of fish and daily specials on as well. The menu is the most varied I've seen at a chippy! Food always good, and I always tend to visit here when I'm in Callander. I recommend the crab soup when they have it, and the squid! regular fish is nice too. Food extremely fresh and simply cooked. They sometimes have interesting things you can buy in the takeaway counter as well, like beetroot and mackerel pate. As someone else has noted, they fry in beef fat. It's tasty, but it's not veggie friendly. read more

Jut went too the take away window (not the main restaurant) for fake away fish and chips. They were made fresh and the batter was crispy and light. The tarter sauce was good with a citrusy taste. The chips were great and seasoned well. The whole meal cost me about 9 pounds and I split it with my husband as it was pretty large. We had fish and chips almost daily while in Scotland and whole not the best, there were definitely Up there! read more

In one line: the best fish and chips I have ever had. I have tried them in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, but this ones are the best. If you are in this beautiful town, this is the best place to eat this traditional English dish. read more

We stopped here during our Hairy Coo Highlands tour, and while I've had my fair share of fish and chips, this is the best I've had yet. We had a Plaice single and a Hake supper (meaning it comes with chips), and it was the perfect amount of food for two people at a great price. We heard that they don't pre-cook the food but rather wait until you order, so it is always fresh and delicious. The staff were very friendly and talkative, which added to the nice, relaxed atmosphere. It was a great experience, and I hope to return here later this year! read more

Amazing monk fish suppers. Fresh, meaty, delicious! Went here for the first time after visiting the mhor bakery every time we pass through Callander. Mohr Fish...fantastic! Staying in the area (at Westerton B&B) on a two week trip to the UK from America. Our hosts recommended Mohr Fish and we loved it. The best fish and chips we had on our trip...and the tarter sauce...absolutely the best I have ever had. We ate in the café and our server was very attentive and helpful. If you go to Callander, definitely eat at this wonderful place. read more
