I had to split it with my companion, because while her Salmon Fish Cakes were good, they were no Fish Pie. As an American, I of course had to have ketchup with my chips, and laughed at the big red tomato bottle they brought to the table as I shamelessly doused my fried potatoes in ketchup. We were unable to get a booking Saturday as they were completely booked out days in advance. We decided to get takeaway oysters and smoked salmon, and ate them outside on the picnic tables. Wellllllll the oysters were so good we asked to book lunch the next day. They fortunately had an opening. We came back today and were blown away by the selection and the quality of the food. Again we had 6 fresh oysters, and also the hand dived Shetland scallops with the a black pudding on the side (it is Scottish sausage and I don't eat meat, but the husband does). We also indulged in the Loch Fyne Langoustines. I enjoyed a glass of extra brut Cremant BdB from France. Nice and dry bubbly. Hoooo weeee that was a great lunch! Everything came out quickly and was a nice presentation. The langoustines were served with a side of garlic butter and chips (fries). The food we selected was perfect for two people. If you are in Scotland and you like seafood, make sure to put this place on your list. Best oysters I've ever had. They also have a very nice deli attached with some local gifts. The first night we were a bit tired from the drive and didn't feel like cooking, so we visited the restaurant. It's nice and bright with great views of the Loch. Service was very friendly. We had the Goat's Cheese Salad (Grilled Goat's cheese served with roasted peppers, salad leaves, soda bread and raspberry balsamic dressing) and the Haggis Bon Bons (Crispy Haggis balls set on roasted tomato and chili chutney served with salad garnish) for a starter. Both equally good, but especially the Bon Bons were a pleasant surprise, good tasting Haggis! For the mains we had the Salmon with veggies and potatoes (daily special) and the Traditional Fish & Chips (haddock served in a beer batter served with chunky chips, peas and Tartar sauce). Both fish tasted very fresh and tender. Hot and crispy chips. With that we had a bottle of White wine, a Sauvignon Blanc Panul from the Lontué Valley, Chile. Fresh, fruity and crisp. Just 18£. We really had a great dinner. Good, fresh food for very fair prices, especially given the fantastic location. If you just come for dinner without staying here, the way back on the one-way street might be a bit dark. Luckily our way home was just a few steps :)

I ordered, waiting alongside the families, who each got their meals and took them away. A line formed, I continued to wait, people in the line got their meals and left, while I stood there in the over air-conditioned ordering area, watching all the small fish being served to others. I wasn't sure if there was a reason she didn't give me the fish and after 20 minutes I stepped in front and she served me. I was a bit annoyed that despite being stood there, I was forgotten about. Once we finally got the suppers, they were fine, decent portion - but nothing unique about them from any other fish 'n chip shop anywhere else in Scotland or the UK. I enjoyed it, my partner didn't like the chips at all. Though they were average chippy chips to me, he felt they tasted 'dirty' from the fryer, with black bits on them. It's one of the few obvious quick takeaways on Balloch Road, and it's right across from a wee park, which is why it is, and will continue to be popular. It's a fine chippy, but it's the location more than anything else, that makes it worth getting.
