Beautiful fish suppers! What you expect a fish supper should be. Grateful to have them in town.

The food from this little fish and chip shop is outstanding, as well as very reasonably priced, and the service is friendly and fast. Established in 1938, the Queen Street Chip Shop was the first and remains the oldest in Dunoon. It's not big. I'd say that if more than half-a-dozen customers were in there at any one time it would start to feel cramped, but I've never had to queue so it's not a problem. The only criticism I would make is the lack of parking. The road outside is double yellow lines, so you can't just nip in and out unless you're on foot. However, there is a free car park in neighbouring Pilot Street, barely fifty yards away, and in Union Lane just around the corner, so the inconvenience is minor and well worth it for the food provided. I've yet to explore their full menu, but what I've tasted is of exceptional quality. The chips in particular are crispy and chunky, and a large portion for just £2 is sure to fill you up. As far as takeaways go, you're not going to find better in Dunoon. There are others that are reasonable, some that are good, but this place is by far the best and whenever my wife and I fancy a treat it's definitely the place we'll go.

Staff seemed nice, however the food was another story. The chips were quite soft, but tasted ok. The haggis with it was very greasy. My business partner had the black pudding which was made to order. He was not impressed with his either. In the end we both dumped most of the food in a bin, having eaten less than half.

Don't judge a book by it's cover as it's not the nicest looking chippy, but there was an older couple behind the counter who were nice and welcoming and reminded us that the fish is as fresh as it comes. We both ordered a fish supper to go and took it just across the street to sit near the water and enjoy. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the chips were some of the better ones I've had from a chippy. We were really happy about our seaside meal and would recommend this chippy if you're looking for a great fish supper. I took a picture of the menus while waiting for our food and as you'll see there's so much you can order here. Lots of locals in and out while we were waiting, all the couple serving us knew by name. It was a great thing.

The fish was perfectly battered and crisp, and simply presented wrapped in paper with a side of chips and mushy peas. All this, along with bread and butter and a cup of tea for around £7! My wife had the fried scampi (shrimp), which was equally delicious and served in a similar manner. For dessert, I ordered a double scoop vanilla ice cream, and my wife ordered the single nougat, which were a perfect cool, refreshing ending to a delicious meal. Totaling less than £20 for everything, Zavaroni's was a delectable bargain, and one that I hope to experience again when I return to Bute.

Except I walked over there and found nothing, just open waterfront. Whoops. Fortunately, I walked right past this other open restaurant that also had fish & chips at a reasonable price, and more importantly, HAGGIS! I can tell you now, they should rename to Fish, Chips, and Haggis. Because this fried haggis sausage is da bomb. I think when they named that one sandwich "da bomb", they were wrong. It's this. Delicious haggis, perfectly deep fried, just the right amount of breading. Classic, timeless, Scotland. The dinner includes plenty of chips, light fried, not dripping with oil - some of the best I've ever had. So get that, not the single. In the end, the only downside is it's takeout-only. No room inside. Great service, great selection, great food. Do stop in when you come to Oban to head out to the wonderful North West isles. (Do all of this. Trust me. It's wonderful here.)

The restaurant is clearly an old place - the vintage decor has been brilliantly preserved and on the Sunday when we visited, the place was buzzing with happy eaters, families, groups of friends - we were lucky to get a table in the sunny area at the back with great views out over the water (don't look down though - the car park below isn't as picturesque). The fish and chips was excellent - portion not too big, perfect. Felt like we had stumbled on a real gem. Lovely bistro menu, great atmosphere. In short - great place.

Mainly boutique style but it beats the old run of the mill stuff. Nice vintage shop and others where I like to do a wee bit of pressie shopping. Any way, while there, we decided to grab a bite in the Cafe Continental - been here before with my wee sis and it is easily wheelchair accessible to the front bar and middle of the cafe part. The raised deck (up a few steps) isn't accessible where the best views of the firth are but still some lovely views from the lower level. The place was very busy and we were asked if we had booked - oops! Thankfully the staff checked the bookings and managed to squeeze the 4 of us in for late lunch - early dinner on proviso we left at 18.30 which was ample time. The table we were seated at was very sticky but the waitress popped over quickly once I had pointed it out. The quality of the grub was good and the dishes could be ordered in half sizes for the kids. I opted for the tapas menu - a Scottish twist on it rather Spanish style with mini haggis etc available - 3 different dishes for £9.95. The chicken wings were delicious and moist rather than crispy so slightly different from the usual fare in a nice way and the sauce was the likely suspect for previous sticky table moment. The front bar was filling up nicely with a good atmosphere and if I hadn't been driving, may have been tempted to stay for a beer or four! In summary - great service, good food and at a reasonable price with flexibility for the kids. Thumbs up.
