Their loss (we found another chum who was delighted to step in). This was an exceptional meal on all counts, from the tasty bread at the start right through to the perfect souffle dessert. In between each course we were presented with a 'palate cleanser' morsel of something - we hadn't asked for these and I can't actually remember what they were. All I can recall is that they were very considerate of my lactose aversion and made sure that my dishes were as dairy-free as possible. The menu didn't have a lot of vegan options, but I felt sure they would cater for any taste if given advance notice. I can't tell you exactly what was in each course, but the main course was north sea cod with mussels, black garlic, in a frothy sauce, with some intriguing black roll that looked like a length of liquorice - I think it was some sort of pasta with squid ink? Each bite was a different taste sensation. For dessert, I was presented with a very-near dairy free souffle with some ginger jam on top, and the souffle was absolutely perfect. We managed to get through two bottles of a rather nice Portuguese wine that I hadn't tried before, and the service was excellent on all fronts.
