This absolute gem is hidden away in the beautiful village of Carmunnock just south of Glasgow. I had never heard of it until I started working in East Kilbride and it was one of my team's lunch spots, usually reserved for special occasions. When I put my notice in at work, this was my first choice for a leaving lunch with my team. Bit sad that it'll be the last lunch I'll have here in a while, but I'll just have to make more of an effort to come here for dinner some evening or lunch some weekend!
It's a beautiful little place, really nicely laid out, beautiful interior and a nice relaxed atmosphere. I especially love the irregularly shaped rough wooden tables and the pictures of other Glasgow eateries on the wall - we sat below drawings of the Rogano, Two Fat Ladies and the Queens Cafe today. They have a small conservatory out the back which looks like a lovely place to sit and have a drink on a summer's evening.
They do a two course lunch for £10.95 and the menu is fantastic - this lunchtime we had Thai seafood stew, game casserole, macaroni cheese, haddock fishcakes and chicken burrito for our mains. Everybody was, as always, really happy with their food - it's always lovely, really top quality; I've never had a single thing in six years of coming here that hasn't been totally delicious. The staff are efficient and friendly and they're really easy going - I changed the numbers for lunch twice before we actually arrived and it was no problem.
The only thing about this place is that it's not so easy to get to without a car. The number 31 bus from the city centre to East Kilbride goes via Carmunnock but I'm not sure how often it runs in the evening, especially for getting back into Glasgow. They do have a car park out the back so if you can pile everybody into a car and nominate a driver, it's well worth the trip. read more
