Since I moved to Dunoon I've been searching for a takeaway that could rival the quality I grew accustomed to living in the city and finally I've found one that not only meets those standards, it exceeds them. The food from this little fish and chip shop is outstanding, as well as very reasonably priced, and the service is friendly and fast.
Established in 1938, the Queen Street Chip Shop was the first and remains the oldest in Dunoon. It's not big. I'd say that if more than half-a-dozen customers were in there at any one time it would start to feel cramped, but I've never had to queue so it's not a problem. The only criticism I would make is the lack of parking. The road outside is double yellow lines, so you can't just nip in and out unless you're on foot. However, there is a free car park in neighbouring Pilot Street, barely fifty yards away, and in Union Lane just around the corner, so the inconvenience is minor and well worth it for the food provided.
I've yet to explore their full menu, but what I've tasted is of exceptional quality. The chips in particular are crispy and chunky, and a large portion for just £2 is sure to fill you up. As far as takeaways go, you're not going to find better in Dunoon. There are others that are reasonable, some that are good, but this place is by far the best and whenever my wife and I fancy a treat it's definitely the place we'll go. read more
