A lovely little diner located in Stirling…read more The diner itself is quite small and I'd reccommend making a booking around peak times. It's definitely not fancy or dressy, it's pretty laid back and the breakfasts are incredibly cheap. Coming in for lunch, we both ordered the specials off the menu- beef with mushroom and cream sauce for me and Thai beef for my pal- both served as sandwiches with fries which we swapped for salad topped with sweet potato without issue. It's very much all about home cooking, which is why i cant understand why breakfasts range between £3-7 and the mains jump to £18-19. For what it was, the food was good. We also ordered coffee and homemade carrot cake which was delightful. The owner of Gabe's was a really friendly man, though he did push the specials quite strongly- we even planned o order the ceasar salad but he continued to push the beef so we just changed out order. Overall a nice place if you're in the area.

Sunday and Brunch go hand in hand. Or at least they should…read more After a busy morning trawling around Garden centres, my brother and I were excited to try eating in Gabe's Diner. Unfortunately, this was not to be. While it was quite busy when we arrived there were visibly still a number of tables free and we were shown to a table within about four minutes. The tables themselves were clean, but the menus on the tables left a greasy feeling on my hands. After being seated we were left sitting for 14 minutes before someone came over to ask us what we wanted. My order was taken fine, but when my brother asked what was in the homemade milkshakes the waiting staff had to go and look it up, after finding out what flavours were available, a second member of staff came over to ask if he could pick something else as it took too long to prepare a milkshake and they were very busy. Now a small diner running out of stock half way through the service is one thing, but to ask a paying customer not to order something because it takes too long to make, seems a little cheeky to me. Giving them the benefit of the doubt my brother ordered a latte he didn't particularly want before going on to order the scrambled eggs, with bacon served on a toasted bagel. And that as they say, is where the straw broke the camels back. They had unfortunately run out of bagels, and rather than asking whether a toast substitute was acceptable just presumed it would be fine and went straight on to offer brown or white bread. We made the executive decision to walk out after this, too many little things just hadn't gone to plan, and add to that the waiting time between being seated and a drinks order being taken, neither of us felt compelled to stay. Perhaps this time just wasn't meant to be, and I'd like to think I'd go back and actually try the food sometime, but this experience was enough to put me off going back for quite a while.
