awesome speakeasy bar, limited seating, be prepared to put your name down and wait. We ordered mostly off menu and everything was delicious, well balanced and diluted properly. Very solid cocktails read more

If you love a speakeasy, this is a must visit in NW DC! Its hidden, but not too hidden and has such a cool vibe inside (including bathrooms hidden behind a bookcase! The atmosphere is intimate but not stuffy - we felt comfortable leaning over and chatting with the table next to us, but also quiet and romantic moments. Also a great place to take people to impress- makes you feel like you're "in the know". The bartenders here are experts and the menu changes every day, which makes coming back here a fun experience every time! They can also fashion you something based on your tastes if you don't see something on the menu that you like. Seating is limited and they don't take reservations - so I suggest going early or utilizing their online waitlist (you can find on their website) if you want to go a little later. read more

I really love speakeasies and this one has become easily one of my favorites. Of course it is hard to find. Just look for a dentist office. I ended up getting two drinks the penicillin and Paloma. Both are excellent. Great presentation. Service was beautiful and I had no issues whatsoever. The bathroom setup is a big confusing but the waitress was able to help me out with that. Prices pretty high given the quality of the drinks I won't complain too much. There is street parking. If I was in the area again and in the mood for a cocktail I would definitely come back read more

Great drinks and atmosphere! It's small but they turn tables quite quickly and you get texted when a table is ready. It's cool without it being pretentious so I've gone multiple times and always find a cocktail I like. I end up making friends with tables next to us or get pulled into convos by other guests so it's cool, because it's intimate but still social. There was one unfortunate incident where this table next to us just pulled us in to a convo b/c they wanted to pay us a compliment on our outfits, and then made a joke that all 5 of us laughed at, apparently laughed too loudly that this blonde female staff member ran over and very loudly told us to be quiet lol the funny thing is she was louder than the 5 of us laughing b/c the surrounding tables turned around in horror and gave us looks like "wtf!?! Was that" It made us uncomfortable and embarrassed the table next to us (made up of older women) I told them not to sweat it, that it was unnecessary and apologized on her behalf. It was a total vibe killer. It came off snobby, mean and pretentious. Anyways it must've been obvious that telling your guests to shut up is pretty rude, b/c not too long after the bartender or maybe manager sent over a round of free drinks to both tables, with an apology. So I appreciate that they righted their wrong and I've never had a bad incident prior or since, I just mention it as feedback, bars can be intimidating especially for women, and I wouldn't want their welcoming vibe to dissipate. I would still recommend this bar time and time again, the bartenders are talented in their craft and could find a drink for everyone! read more

OKPB is by far my favorite bar in DC. Amazing servers who are knowledgeable about all the different drinks and exceptional bartenders. They have happy hour from 5-7 weekdays where you can get Moscow mules, Fitzgeralds, manhattans, and martinis half off ($8 per drink). The vibe of the inside is wonderful-- pretty small though, biggest party they can host at a given time is 6. Definitely recommend getting there before they open at 5, otherwise you could end up waiting for ~2 hours (especially Friday/sat nights). It's located above the dentist office, just ring the doorbell and they'll come get you to seat you upstairs. 10/10 read more

Each time I come to OKPB, I have a wonderful experience. It's the bar I recommend to any guests I have in DC looking for a chill place to have a good cocktail. I would argue OKPB has the best cocktails in the city and for a great price. I always have my specific order and each time the bartenders experiment and create a delicious drink. I'm impressed that I love all their drinks even those I typically dislike at other cocktail bars. The service is topnotch. From the host/ess, to the waiter/ess, to the bartenders: all staff display respect, kindness and enthusiasm for the establishment and its patrons. I'll continue to come to OKPB no matter the wait in line. A tip is to put your name on the list, get dinner around Mt Pleasant or Columbia heights which have many great options, and return upon your text. The wait is so worth it. read more

OKPB - Manhattans on happy hour - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

This is a neighborhood gem. I've visited a couple of times now on Friday evenings (expect a wait), and love the atmosphere for a date night cocktail or double date with friends. I've tried both drinks from the rotating menu and happy hour drinks and they've been excellent. The hh moscow mule is the best i've ever had (ginger lovers will rejoice). This is everything I'd want in a cocktail bar :) read more

OKPB - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

This place is a true gem! Imagine if your hip and talented mixologist friend opened a classy bar in their basement library for you and your mutual friends. That's the OKPB vibe in a nutshell. Very cool, yet laid back and unpretentious, which is rare for a space like this, and especially in this town. When I visited for the first time a few weeks ago, our small group of 3 arrived at 7 pm, thinking we'd be early enough to beat the rush (they don't take reservations). A sign posted on the door said they were closing at 9 for a private party that night. Still, we thought we'd take a chance and see if we could squeeze in for a drink or two. At the door, the hostess regrettably informed us that, alas, they couldn't accommodate us. We walked away dispirited (pun intended), when not 20 seconds later, the hostess chased/called after us up the street to let us know that they would be able to fit us in after all. It was an early sign of the hospitality and friendliness exuded by all the staff. Inside, we were seated along a separate bar off the main, where we could soak in the charming ambiance. The short, handwritten list of house $14 cocktails intrigued, though our server/bartender helpfully offered to create any classics for us as well. The French 75 and Negronis we ordered off menu were perfectly made. OKPB is an absolutely delightful addition to Mt. Pleasant and, more broadly, to the elite roster of speakeasies in DC. read more

Now this place is a gem. The ambiance is so wonderfully. The drinks are top tier and the staff is knowledgeable and can make you a speciality cocktail. I can't wait to go again read more

All the fun of a speakeasy without any pretentiousness. Get a table by walking up - if they don't have availability immediately they'll take your number and text you when a table is ready. You then have ten minutes to get over there. The staff are friendly and the bartenders are excellent. Even though they truly have a constantly rotating menu of excellent drinks, you can't go wrong with the bartender's choice - just give them some cues about what you like. Happy hour is Monday through Friday 5-7pm when they have some standard drinks for $7, which is half price. Great deal and the drinks are stellar - the mule tastes like it has fresh crushed ginger! The space is small and dim, and the most they can accommodate is six people at the one big table they have. But really best enjoyed with just one or two other people anyways. There's only nuts available if you want snacks so plan accordingly. You have to check out the bathrooms while you're there! read more

4.25 stars. I don't really expend a ton of energy going to cocktail bars at this point in my life and certainly not those with a secret entrance. I feel that was so ten years ago. That said, if you don't mind the faux secretive nature of this place, you will walk upstairs, find an artfully decorated tiny space with dim lighting, and a written cocktail menu with minimal choices. Naturally, we eschewed from the menu and essentially ordered a bartender's choice which in this case ended up being a frothy mezcal number with some latent heat. The cocktails ended up being delicious and I didn't really notice the wait time between order and enjoyment, or at least it was an afterthought once I indulged in the actual drink. I believe there is a tiny food menu here as well. I only got to stick around for a single drink but this is a place that I'd seek out if it was in my neighborhood and I was in the mood to dramatically lower my stress level using an alcoholic means. read more

A fabulous little speakeasy with amazing cocktails. I went with the bartender's choice and was not disappointed! I love that they created off menu cocktails for us just based on a small prompt (like bourbon and citrus). Highly recommend! read more

OKPB - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I arrived with a group of 5 people on a Tuesday night and we had taken an Uber to get here. When we arrived and someone finally came to the door, we mentioned that we would have some friends who would be coming shortly later. The guy said he couldn't seat us because there just wasn't enough space. We mentioned that they could be a separate party (we didn't need to all sit together or anything) and the guy still said he didn't have capacity, even though he mentioned there were 24 seats. To be clear, he wasn't saying it would be a long wait, he was literally denying service and doing so with a really pretentious tone. This kind of behavior is unacceptable no matter how good the drinks are (per other reviews), so I hope people avoid going here. Overall between this issue and how long it took for them to answer the door, it came across like the type of place where employees have the attitude that "our drinks are too good for you." Life is too short to pay money or spend time to get treated poorly. read more

Great place to get drinks! Might be a wait. Ring the doorbell downstairs when you get there and someone will come down. They encourage ordering off the menu. I had a drink called Maravilla with chocolate bitters & Mezcal, which was fantastic. read more

I went here with 2 friends after a yum dinner at Purple Patch. My friend recommended this place for an after dinner drink, so after a quick search for their secret-ish door, the maitre'd told us it would be an hour wait -- at 7:52pm while the sun was still out! This definitely raised our expectations for how good this place would be... In the interim we went to a nearby casual French cafe called Elle which ironically had an incredibly skilled bartender who made my girl friend a custom hot tea with whiskey and honey and she loved it! ~ End interim ~ Sometime around 8:52pm we stroll into OKPB with a fine Friday buzz ready for some skilled cocktails. After taking our seats at the bar, a suspender-clad bartender confidently informed us that while the menu drinks were great, if it was our first time (which it was) we should try out some classics - "because we're better at them than everyone else". Round 1: I ordered a Bee's Knees, one friend had an Old Fashioned, and the other had a French 75. (1) The bee's knees was great, I would say a 5/5 and the honey flavor definitely came through. (2) The old fashioned tasted great, but for such a fancy bar there was no Luxardo maraschino cherry What's more, they have shelves inches from the bar with industrial size canisters of Luxardo cherries ‍ (3) The French 75 was the most curious -- we kind of missed the bartender making the drink, but we couldn't taste any evidence of bubbles or sugar. The result was a very lemony and nondescript cocktail, nothing close to French 75, and could only be rated as a 1/5. Round 2 : I ordered something from the specialty menu that I thought was quite good! Our other order, determined to give them another chance at the classics, was a Sazerac. We saw the bartender looking up the recipe right after Upon tasting it, we were pretty sure he left out any hint of absinthe. The saving grace was that he used Wild Turkey 101 Rye, a personal fave. Ultimately, everyone we interacted with was super nice and service was 5/5. Despite not living up to the their sky high Yelp rating, we had an enjoyable time and desperately hope this review doesn't deter anyone from visiting. P.S. Also, this place is very couple oriented. As the the 3rd wheel, I ended up standing most of the time until we rotated out. However, I did a stint in the Navy one time so it was no problem ‍ read more

Beautiful little speakeasy, good drink deals! Tired a Fitzgerald for the first time and wasn't disappointed.

OKPB is very unassuming at first. Located behind an unmarked door above a dentist's office, I wouldn't have known where to find it had I not gone with a friend who had already been. Our group stopped by on a Friday for happy hour, which runs from 5-7PM M-F. As a group of five, we got there early (around 4:45) to get in line as there is only one table that can accommodate groups. It was definitely worth the wait though. The bar showcases $8 cocktails for their happy hour, including manhattans, martinis, Fitzgeralds and mules. The cocktails were delicious, service was great and the ambience was spectacular. Definitely recommend! read more

The waiter felt extremely microaggesive and racist. kept rushing me out the establishment and made me feel very unwelcomed/uncomfortable. if you're a person of color don't come here tbh. read more

Love this hole in the wall bar. The cocktail list is shorter than most but has unique and fun drinks that you can't get anywhere else. Ask the bartender for their recommendations! read more

This was my first time at this establishment. Once you enter, the floor plan is an elongated rectangle. The sitting/waiting area was a bit oddly placed as well disconnected from the rest of restaurant. Since there are limited tables, I highly encourage others to try the bar (unless if you do not want to converse with anyone). Absolutely delicious and a welcoming environment. read more

Cool trendy spot. Lots of cocktails and the servers extremely knowledgeable and can make any drink with the spirit of your choice and whatever is in your head they make it on the spot. I tested this and was pleasantly surprised. Love to come back! read more

Finally, a DC Speakeasy that doesn't take itself too seriously (but is serious about their cocktails)! Unlike other places in this category, I appreciated the lack of stuffiness here as well as the diversity of the patrons (on a recent Thursday night, it was a very international crowd). The service here is on-point - attentive without hovering and feeling rushed, and the bartender brought his yummy concoctions right to us and invited us to tell him which spirits/flavors that we liked in case we wanted something off menu (we accepted the invite and weren't disappointed). I like that the cocktail menu changes daily, which speaks to their penchant for innovation and creativity. And the decor really does make you feel like you've been transported to a fancy 1920s illegal saloon. That said, it is crowded, cozy, and loud! A great place for friends but less so for an intimate conversation or first date. read more

Very expensive Dixie Cup-sized, watered down cocktails in a fabulous intimate environment.

This is by far the best place I've been for drinks in DC. I would highly recommend going for the bartender's choice when selecting a cocktail since the bartenders and waiters there know all the right questions to ask to make you something you'll really enjoy. I tried 4 different cocktails there over the course of a number of hours and each one was delicious, unique, and a standout on its own, but the best drink I had all night was when I gave the waiter and the bartender no direction and just asked them to make me whatever they wanted at the end of the night. The staff there are endlessly creative and took into account each drink I had when crafting the next. The space is small and there's a limited number of seats/tables, but that only adds to the personalization and intimacy of the whole experience. Couldn't recommend this place enough and suggest letting the people work there guide your experience. read more

Best bar in metropolitan area Great service nice people I wished it was more space but it's a wonderful experience. Thank you owners

The drinks are fine, the prices are not. The only thing missing to round out the failed attempt at a vibe would be walking into a fake laundry machine on the ground level to enter the venue. This one was a let down - Mt. Pleasant has much better to offer. read more
