Small casual place with fresh sushi. Note portions are very small, however the quality is there. Service and ambiance are meh. May or may not return if in the area. .

We were in town and we wanted to go to one of our favorite sushi place . They had open tables , I had checked the website for availability and it was open for dinner. Didn't know how our time was going so I didn't make a reservation. They require a credit card. No problem when we arrived there was free street parking a block away. So lucky. We arrived and were seated right away. There were two of us and I was glad she didn't stick us in the window seats. We were in the middle of the place. The place had about 3 tables taken up so not bad. The chefs greeted us as we walked by. The place is clean and nice neighborhood look. There were specials on the wall and the menu had a lot my wife wanted to try and of course stuff we already knew were good. She of course loves the Agedashi tofu here. It her favorite. Next we got the Ika Karaage which was nice and yummy with extra crispy. The Beef Sukiyaki was big and everything nice and fresh. Loved it. Really full. The Gindara Misoyaki was the bomb. It was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. Lastly the Kakuni , pork belly yummy. . We were so stuffed that we had to take most of the Sukiyaki home. The service was great and the food excellent. I loved it all. I wish this place was closer or in town we would eat here every week. Funny, we had so much food and it was cheaper than our regular Sushi place in town. Kind of sad since this is a Michelin Guide location. Our place at home is not. Oh well SF is a unique city and has so much great food. I always recommend this place to others. You won't be disappointed. Till the next time

Spectacular sushi restaurant. One of the only sushi restaurants in sf with a bib gourmand. Meaning it has good quality and good value! The staff is welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. They have real, properly trained sushi chefs. They have an immense Japanese sake selection-- many of which are unavailable anywhere else in America. The fish quality and variety is impressive. Most of the fish is overnighted from Japanese waters. They also have seasonal fish which I've never tried before.

Solid spot for sushi, very fresh fish, good ambiance and great service. Price is slightly on the higher end but they do accept Inkind. Here's what we ordered: - edamame - beef sukiyaki (4/5): came with raw egg to dip, slightly on the saltier side but rice helped - 4 omakase hand rolls (5/5): favorite of the night, all 4 were different and incredibly tasty (and beautiful!) - rainbow roll (4/5): for $27 I'd expect something more than artificial crab meat stuffed inside, pretty good otherwise - roppongi roll (4/5): very fresh and unique, light. Went well against the saltier sukiyaki Next time we're back we would order more hand rolls and try some nigiris.

As a big fan of Omakase next door, Okane is an everyday answer to the same high quality sushi. They cut from the same fish as next door, and have a more budget-friendly chef's counter omakase! It's not a big place inside, and they get very crowded, so I'd avoid going at peak times for more personalized service and to secure a seat. Their signature roll with A5 Wagyu is out of this world, with the right balance of salt and richness, all the small plates and drinks I've tried have been great, and you can never go wrong with a good omakase.

After a fun coding competition, my daughter was seriously craving sushi. The event food was mini muffins for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch, she needed something way better. Thankfully, my brother (who comes here often) made reservations for us, and it did not disappoint. Service was great from start to finish -- friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. Here's what we ordered: * Kakuni - So flavorful and the pork was incredibly tender, practically falling apart. One of my favorites of the night. * Tonkatsu - The pork was good but not great. It came with miso soup, which was solid, though we've had better elsewhere. * Hamachi Belly - Very good. Fresh and buttery. * Beni Toro - Also very good. Rich, melt-in-your-mouth texture. * Townsend Roll - Good overall, but my daughter wasn't a fan of the shiso leaf on it. * Dragon Roll - Good and nicely balanced. * Kaisen Don - Not sure of the full variety of fish included, but it was pretty good. What stood out most was the rice -- perfectly seasoned and delicious. I found myself finishing the rice even after the sashimi was gone. * Oysters (chef's style) - Topped with uni, quail egg, ponzu, green onion, and caviar. Absolutely amazing. This was a standout. We were also lucky enough to find parking right across the street, which feels rare in SF! Staff was very friendly, service was smooth, and overall it was a great experience. Definitely will be back again.

Despite the last experience, we decided to give this place a second chance, and it was amazing! The nigiri we ordered were all very high quality, treated with care and delicious. The shrimp nigiri even came with a fried head and that head was amazing, highly recommended! Kakuni was tender and flavorful, udon was also pretty good. They have a wide selection of rolls and they all seem pretty unique. Servers were pretty attentive, atmosphere was casual but cozy. And most importantly....easy parking!! Definitely will be back:)

Came here for my birthday dinner! Everything was incredible. We talked to the sushi chefs while waiting for our food and they were so happy to answer all our questions. Started with the crispy rice and hamachi crudo, which were sublime. Otoro sashimi was melt in your mouth. Sashimi set was so fresh and buttery. Roppongi was super unique it had no rice and was wrapped in cucumber. Rainbow spider roll was really crunchy and so pretty too. Finished with the saba shioyake (grilled mackerel) which came with miso soup! So happy and so full Service was fast at the beginning then slowed down when it started to get busy. Perfect lighting and loved the traditional modernesque decor of the whole place. Loved being able to watch the sushi chefs in action at the counter.

Hand rolls (chutoro and eel)

Walking in, I was seated at the bar near the entrance. Further into the restaurant there are a lot more tables for larger parties, but I went for dinner by myself. It was a bit awkward that they handed me a Happy Anniversary card. I had forgotten that I had put down my ex and my anniversary for the day after I came here so... I was a bit confused initially. But I guess they were trying to be nice. The chef's style oysters were delicious! Super fresh oyster with uni and quail egg and caviar and a little bit of a spicy sauce that lingers in the mouth afterwards. The omakase nigiri had select pieces that were quite delicious but 2 pieces I remember thinking, this is kind of chewy or had a bit of tendon on it. I don't care for eel, but the chutoro and eel temaki hand rolls were delicious. I think it's reasonably priced (at least compared to its sister restaurant next door) if you don't feel like spending $300 pp on omakase.

This place is absolutely mind-blowing... Wow! This review took me a minute to write because I honestly didn't want to gatekeep something this good! If you're visiting San Francisco, this spot is 100% worth the trip! No matter where you're coming from. The service? Next-level. The ambiance.. amazing! Huge shoutout to Uri, Kelly, Robert, and Jeff for making our experience unforgettable!! not once... but TWICE. This place has officially earned a permanent spot on our travel itinerary. If you go (and trust me, you should), do not miss the chef's counter omakase, it's pure magic. And my absolute favorite dish? The hamachi, negi, cucumber, and A5 wagyu topped with caviar and literal SPARKLING GLITTER!!! (Sorry, Marissa... but the secret's out now). Run, don't walk.

Sushi that is part of Omakase. Very fresh and delicious.

The sushi and sashimi was fresh and well prepared. The sushi rice and side rice with hot dishes were cooked perfectly. The only dish we did not like is the miso eggplant since it was very salty. Other than that, all other dishes were well executed. Service was attentive and friendly as well.

Avril L.

The food at Okane was very good, the fish was really fresh and came out in a timely manner. The ribeye beef skewers were not good, the meat was tough. The chicken karage was also not very good - it wasn't crispy and didn't have much flavor. The miso black cod was delicious, very flaky and seasoned very well. We ordered 2 types of toro, and a variety of sashimi, and multiple handrolls (also very good.) Service was very attentive, the waiters refilled our waters multiple times. The ambiance felt casual but good. I came here for my birthday and while I was glad to have dined here, I don't believe I would return.

Had a great valentines experience here. We went for the prix fixe menu and every course was delicious. The service was lovely, they were understanding that the traffic caused us to be a little bit late, and they have a cocktail menu which isn't as common in SF at sushi restaurants. It's small but nicely designed inside and feels cosy. The only thing I would have liked would have been if they'd wiped the tables between courses.

Is Okane aware of what has gluten and what does not on their menu? Many rice vinegars, ponzu and soy sauces have gluten (wheat/barley-based ingredients). Or does the menu denote GF?…

Our waitress made some great suggestions and got the amount of food right for our party. I would recommend going out of your way to try this place. You won't be disappointed.

I stopped by here on a Saturday around 7 and it was packed but the wait wasn't too long yet thankfully. The menu had a nice assortment of appetizers, skewers, ramen, and an extensive drinks menu. For two people, we tried the corn ribs, black tofu, 7 course skewer set and the duck duck udon carbonara. I wasn't too hungry so there was a bit of food leftover. The corn ribs were very flavorful and perfectly done. The udon was a bit too spicy for my liking but still very creamy. I enjoyed the duck but my friend said it was too fatty. All of the skewers were cooked well and I liked the shrimp the most. At the end, we were given a free hojicha panna cotta with fruit and that was a really pleasant addition. The staff was nice and the decor with the lanterns and art made me feel like I was in Japan. The music was also an interesting mix of Asian songs. Would come back to try other things or the drinks!

Granted, we came in around 9 PM, about an hour before closing, so we understood that the kitchen was getting toward the end of the night. We ordered a few dishes to share and there were actually some highlights. The scallops: These were great! Easily one of the better dishes we ordered. The karaage chicken: The chicken itself had great flavor, but the creamy sauce on top was extremely rich and ended up overpowering the chicken. I think with less sauce, this could have been a really good dish. Now, the ramen: This is where I was genuinely left speechless. I don't think I've ever had ramen with absolutely no umami. Like, none. It was one of the strangest things I've ever tasted. I was biting into something, there were textures in my mouth, it smelled great... but that was it. No depth. No richness. No umami. The broth, meat, and even the noodles somehow had almost no flavor. The only thing that really came through was the greasy chili oil that lingered on your tongue afterward. After a couple of bites, we looked at each other and decided to leave. At that point, most of the food was still sitting on the table practically untouched. Maybe we caught the kitchen on an off night, especially coming in later in the evening. The scallops showed us that there's definitely potential here, but unfortunately, the ramen was such a miss that it overshadowed the rest of the meal for us.
