As a student, I've ordered from here countless times through delivery apps and have dined once in person. What keeps me coming back every time is the service. I've found that no matter where I order from, it's always the owner who delivers. He know right where to go (there's almost always confusion with other deliveries on campus), and he is ALWAYS ahead of schedule, and sends a picture of where he drops off the food if he doesn't hand it to you directly. These people are HUSTLING, and yet they don't compromise consistently good food. Of course, it's not the best sushi in the world, but it's perfect for college students to get a quick meal in between studying. Now for my in-person experience. Honestly, if I had seen the restaurant before having eaten food from here, it would have caused some hesitation. It doesn't give the vibe of being very sanitary and the woman working wasn't quite as friendly as I had expected based off of their delivery service. Fusion Roll (White tuna, salmon and avocado with spicy tuna, half seaweed and half kani AKA imitation crab) $10.95. 2. Crazy Tuna Roll (Spicy tuna and avocado inside topped with fresh tuna, white tuna and spicy mayo) $12.95. Was I crazy about the crazy tuna? Yes. It was my favorite roll. 3. Valentine Roll (Salmon, crab meat and avocado rolled up with spicy tuna and crunch) $10.95. I liked this better than the snow princess roll because it had more flavor. 4. Snow Princess Roll (Spicy crunchy scallop topped with white tuna and caviar) $11.95. I love a whimsical specialty sushi name. The cost of each roll for the quantity was standard. Four rolls feed 2-2.5 people. I was full before finishing 2 rolls. As you can see from my ordering pattern, I love specialty rolls and I love spicy tuna. If you spend over $40, you get a free seaweed salad. There are other deals if you spend lesser amounts as well. Their hours are great! They open 11AM-1AM so this place is perfect for those who crave sushi at unconventional hours (like myself). The most impressive thing about my order was that it came in 15 minutes. I have come here a few times in the past and while they don't particularly excel at anything, they also don't fail at anything either. The service is actually pretty good and the prices are on point for the area. Usually when I come here I get teriyaki and that comes with a miso soup. It's a pretty good miso, it's not the best I've had, but it's not bad at all. The teriyaki is always pretty tasty no matter what my meat choice is. Last time I came my friend got sushi and she said it was pretty good as well. They also work with local delivery companies as well. So if you feel like just sitting at home relaxing, you can have your food brought right to you. All in all, not a bad place. read more

The Valentine roll is amazing, the yakisoba noodles are delicious, and we always love the dinner bento box. It's a great combo that comes with and entree, side of soup or salad, and potstickers. I'm writing this from my bed because I have some type of food poisoning from a $30 sushi I made last night with a friend. I've eaten from here before and it's been adequate but you can see that they don't care about their customers if you read about the service and their attitude towards reconciling with customers. I was up all night and had to call off of work this morning. I've been trying to hydrate all day but everyone knows the nausea feeling you have after eating a TERRIBLE meal. They're only in business because there isn't a ton of sushi options on SU campus for a decent price and taste. M Kaiten is disgusting, BM is basically $20 a roll. They're demanding a doctor's note from me before refunding my order. With America's healthcare in the state that it is, you should know that most don't have insurance. I will never use them for Grubhub ever again. Do not get the Spicy combo. Tasteless, not fresh, and will make you sick. If they're willing to pay for my doctor's visit, I'll get them a note. Worst service I have ever received. Sent me the wrong sushi so I requested a refund on just one roll which was about $8 on a $40 order. I ordered again a week later, didn't get sent my order for an hour and a half so I called on the phone and asked politely if it was going to come. I proceeded to get screamed at by a woman saying that I lied about getting the wrong roll last week (I didn't) and to never order there again. My partner and I ordered takeout. Miso soup: this was the best part of the meal. Very tasty and exactly what you expect Edamame: it's difficult to be impressed by edamame as it is typically the same everywhere you go. It maybe could've used some salt. Vegetable tempura: tempura was extremely soggy. When I bit into the broccoli it was almost the consistency of apple sauce. It's like they put batter on wet vegetables and didn't fry it long enough. The tempura dipping sauce was flavorless. I do not recommend you order this. Seaweed salad: this was pretty good. It was fresh and the perfect temperature. Shrimp tempura roll: I was not impressed with this roll. In all fairness, I wouldn't typically order this but I am pregnant and was attempting to satisfy a sushi craving. The menu does not say they use eel sauce but they doused this roll in it. I couldn't eat very much because you're not supposed to eat eel sauces when you're pregnant. It took a lot of work to try to clean it off. This should be specified on the menu. Valentine roll: my boyfriend said he really liked the spice level and flavor on this roll. The salmon seemed to be fresh. I was unable to partake so I cannot provide my own feedback. Sauces: the side of spicy mayo was perfect. The side of ponzu was not good and didn't really taste like ponzu. Perhaps that is why this is not offered on their menu? This review is from my experience dining there on 4/17/15. This place was basically okay. I thought it was pricey considering what you get. In full disclosure it was not my idea to go there, as I was dragged there by a date. Sushi is not my number one choice. I don't know if the students up there have many other choices for sushi? New Japanese restaurant near the Syracuse University. All the usual items - maki, over rice dishes, and noodle dishes. Low to medium quality of fish. About a dozen vegetarian maki choices along with about twenty fancier maki. Lunch specials look like a good deal - $7.95 for two rolls and $9.95 or three rolls. Took forever for dinner to show up - but it looked like the place had only one sushi chef and lots and lots of pick up and delivery orders. I have gone in to eat here at least 5 times and 4 of those times the waiter has made a mistake by giving us the wrong food, charging us for more then what we ordered, not following the price on the menu and when we tell them it is incorrect the waiter will argue with us and when we ask to speak to the manager she backs him up. An example would be the first time we ordered ice cream Mochi we chose three flavors. The second time we ordered three flavors and he gave us 3 plates so triple the cost. There were times we would leave if we saw the same waiter working and eat at blue monkey. But the last time I ate there was too ridiculous. But basically we ordered a maki combo but instead of a California roll another spicy tuna because my friend is allergic. He told us it was ok asked us soup or salad. Then brought an extra spicy tuna, a California roll, and no soup. We politely told him this isn't what we ordered yadda yadda yadda the manager and the waiter refused to give us the correct order and charged us extra and we refuse to give them any more of our time and business. I work in the hospital, and order from this place all the time, whether it be for delivery or pick-up. Their chicken udon is excellent - plenty of lean white meat, clean broth, and a large portion size. Their chicken and beef teriyakis are excellent too - plenty of good quality meat, tasty sauce, and good serving size. Their sushis are fresh too. Prices are reasonable, and we usually pick up a free soda or something else when the order exceeds certain pricing thresholds, like $20. I have ordered from them around 20 times now, and I don't see any problems at all. I highly recommend them, and I just ordered from them again! read more

Really poor food. Their miso soup tastes worst than the powdered kind I have in my room, and their curry chicken katsu don was awful. The curry tastes like bad American gravy and the katsu don was depressing. Usually katsu don will come with onions and vegetables and other delicious things all cooked in with the chicken and rice, this was just a side of rice and chicken katsu... the only redeeming factor was the Thai tea, which was actually quite delicious and why I'm leaving more than just one star. I have visited this location three times. I bought a dragon roll to go during my first trip. I paid 11/12 $ for the roll. I thought it was expensive initially. Later when I returned home I compared the menu to other sushi restaurants and found 12 for a specialty roll pretty standard. I also found Oishi's menu contains nice lunch specials... 3 rolls for 11$ is what caught my eye. I was convinced to return again. Trip number two went smooth. I ordered three rolls. I can't recall them all, however I remember enjoying the yellowtail jalapeño roll in particular. I believe the word jalapeño was mispelled on the menu, don't let that discourage you! My third trip, I was back for the lunch special. They really had me with their three roll lunch combo. Did I mention you also get a soup or salad with lunch? I chose miso both times, I liked it. Although the soup was good, my serving was mostly broth. Out of my three rolls, the stand out roll was called an oshinki roll. It stood out moslty in a poor way. I was kinda taking a shot in the dark with this roll as there is no discription of the rolls next to the lunch menu. It seemed to be some sort of picked vegetable roll. My guess would be a radish. A Daikon radish perhaps. The oshinki roll tasted fine, but the wrap quality was below standard. The sushi fell apart In my chopsticks. This place is the worst sushi place I've ever been to. Today I came in there for the first time to have lunch. I ordered the Chirashi Don, which came with a salad. The food: - The lettuce was really wet, diluting the dressing, which looked unappetizing (because of the color) and tasted worse than the ginger dressing I had at other sushi restaurants. - The Chirashi Don was done wrong: fish placed next to plain steamed rice, instead of on top of it; rice should be seasoned with vinegar, salt, and sugar. But the worst part is that the fish were not fresh. Two pieces of tuna were turning dark red, not a good sign. When I bit into them, they tasted fishy, so I left them aside. The surf clam was really thinly cut, and looked kinda sad. I ate the other pieces of fish that seemed okay, but I'm worried about getting food poisoning. The service: - This place is owned by Chinese, so I didn't expect authenticity or good service. The cashier/server girl was efficient, and friendly enough. However, during the time I was eating there, the owner's family were just standing around and talking in the dining room, in front of customers. It looked very unprofessional. The atmosphere: - The place is dingy and does not look very clean. Supplies such as cups, utensil, napkins are only display in front of the sushi counter. I didn't use the restroom there, but I don't think I would want to find out. Obviously, I will never come back to this place. Komachi nearby (owned by Koreans) is much better, both food-wise and hygiene-wise. I regretted giving Oishi Sushi a try. read more

Oishi Sushi is the first place where I tried my first sushi. My experience was awesome. I am an anime lover who is always excited about Japanese culture and cuisine. I tried Shin Ramen ($10) for the first time (after watching Naruto) and been going to the place now frequently. The taste never disappointed me. There's lots of meat, all kinds viz. pork, beef and shrimp. The quantity is huge. Yakitori, miso soup (free with the meal) and green tea (free) after your meal are worth trying. Try the chicken rolls and tuna rolls. Note: This is my experience visiting only one sushi joint and I haven't tried the food at other sushi restaurants. read more

I just moved to Syracuse from Los Angeles, and the first thing I wanted was some sushi and quality Asian cuisine. Despite the mediocre reviews, I decided to give this place a shot, especially considering the lunch specials ($8 for a sushi lunch or bento box!) are a deal and a half. Now, I'll admit, I'm a sucker for anything with eel in it or on it, so my first lunch choice was the Unagi Don, a plate of rice with eel on top. It was SO good. The eel was flavorful, tender, and the rice was sticky without having a strong taste of vinegar. It could have used some more vegetables for balance, but that was my only complaint. My dining partner had a tonkatsu box (crispy fried pork cutlet with gyoza, rice, sushi, and a bowl of miso soup) and it was perfect, the gyoza were delectably crispy, and the katsu was comparable to what we had in LA. So good! And at a great price, we felt we had found our Japanese spot in our new home. The second time we went back, about a week later, I tried a sushi combo for lunch and my partner had the chicken katsu (when you find a good thing, why deviate? especially since we've read such horrible things about their udon...) I had the eel/cucumber roll and the spicy tuna. The eel was good, but I wish they had put some fatter pieces in the sushi. The cucumber was crisp and balanced the eel well. The sushi was rolled OK, not expertly, but it doesn't make a difference to me either way, I'm there to eat it, not look at it; I don't really care if it looks picture perfect or not. And twelve pieces of sushi plus a bowl of miso for $8? That's not too bad, in my opinion. My biggest complaint, which was enough for me not to give it the extra 4th star, is a health concern. I went to use the bathroom on our second visit and got in there to find no toilet paper. Not even in the cabinet above the toilet. When I went to the paper towel dispenser, I found a little post it note taped to the front: "Out of Paper." Are you kidding me? When I looked inside, I saw that there was, indeed, a whole roll of paper towel, it just wouldn't come out because the thing was broken. The fact that there was a sign on the thing signified to me that they just didn't care to fix it and were basically telling me "deal with it." Also, I'm concerned that a place that serves food, and RAW FISH, for that matter, doesn't have the bathroom adequately equipped to wash hands or, you know, do your business. So, that is a huge concern of mine, and I really hope there's a staff bathroom somewhere in the back. So, B+ for food. D for potential hygiene problems. read more

Not good. My first visit was for lunch. The restaurant smelled of stale cleaning supplies and something else subtly unpleasant but unidentifiable. The waitress was basically competent but disinterested and unhelpful. The sushi-chef was inexperienced. The chicken udon was okay, with dry, chewy meat and an uninteresting but not unpleasant broth. Our sushi and sashimi were not fresh, not well made--and probably made me sick later that night (always hard to know for sure, but the timing was right). So I ordered the valentine roll and chicken teriyaki with white rice, this was some of the blandest Asian food I have ever had. Everything I tasted had no flavor. Thank god I have a well stocked kitchen and I could add seasoning to my food, but if I wanted to season and cook I would have done that from the start and never ordered food. While writing a term paper, hunger struck me. So, I ordered a Philadelphia roll and a Spicy Tuna roll, and both were excellent. And massive. The delivery got here in maybe 40 minutes, much faster than their estimated 55-65 minute wait time; made even more amazing by the fact that I'm about 2.5 miles from their location in a confusing part of town. The driver found my house with no problem and called when he was outside as requested so my dog wouldn't freak out from an "invader" on the porch. Recently had lunch delivered to my office. Order included: Gyoza $4.50- not cooked to my liking, but still good. Could have been pan fried a little longer. Peanut Avocado Roll $3.75- Love this one. Name says it all. Tastes great if you dip it into spicy mayo for an extra 50 cents. Spicy Tuna Roll $5.95- had crunch in it already even though some places charge extra for that feature. Tuna was OK, but still worth the price. Kirin Roll $9.95- AMAZING!!! Very Americanized sushi but amazing! Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, rolled with BBQ eel and sauce on top. Not really sure what the fuss is about. They have very good sushi. I'm not gonna vouch for their other food, but I've been consistently getting sushi from them and they've never disappointed. Delivery is fast. Food is very good. What else do you need? I highly recommend the Diablo and the Godzilla rolls. They're a bit pricey, but they're worth it if you're ordering with friends. They even have coupons on seamless that gets your a FREE California roll. My recommendation is to add a side of spicy mayo/eel sauce and jazz up your simple California Roll. read more
