Was craving sushi and yelped a place close to home. I love giving local businesses a chance because we need them to stay in our neighborhoods. This place is cute and serves fresh ingredients including their fish. We started with their Age Tofu & fried oysters. I wasn't expecting the tofu to come out as nuggets but nevertheless the presentation is key to make something so simple appetizing. The fried oysters in the menu said 3 but we got 5! I ordered the rainbow roll and my niece had the dragon roll actual I'm not sure but it has eel & snow crab...both fresh and delicious We had leftovers ...good to have a snack for later I would definitely be back to try their other rolls. read more

I would have given this place 5 stars if it my review was solely based on the food. However I don't think it's acceptable when you usually order from this place a lot and each time the delivery is more than 1 hour late. I called the restaurant for an update and they were just making my food at the time I called. Food wise - the food is delicious which is what kept me going back. I always order any of the sushi rolls specifically the ones that have tuna in them. The spicy edamame, the Gyoza dumplings all very delicious. I've been to this place in person pre-Covid and the service was always wonderful. I am not sure how they are during Covid since I haven't dined in during Covid times. read more

Just moved to the area and trying out new sushi places. The one I enjoy the most is closed on Monday.. I did a little research and found Oishi. This is my first and last order from them. Delivery was prompt and on time. However I had a few issues with my order. I got the spicy tuna gyoza which lived up to the hype and saved this review from being 1 or 2 stars. Amazing. Recommended. Here's where it went downhill quick. I also got two rolls. Alaska and Toyko roll. Instead of Alaska roll I got sent a Philadelphia roll. I ended up unrolling the sushi, and removing the cream cheese (yuck and also I'm sensitive to dairy!), but it still wasn't the same. Smoked salmon definitely has a very distinct flavor that I'm not necessarily fond of, and I was really missing that nice buttery creamy salmon/avocado combo. The Tokyo roll seemed alright at first piece, but it made my mouth burn a little. "Is there something spicy in there?" I thought.. eat another piece and BAM it hits me! It was so SALTY for some reason. Like they picked the shrimp right out of the ocean and didn't clean it at all. I ended up throwing it out. 100% will not order from here again. read more

Im very picky with sushi, since it can be dangerous if not prepared correctly and if the fish is not fresh, therefore I don't eat it just anywhere. Now, The taste of the sushi here it's soooo good! It's so fresh, and the "spicy" in the food it's appropriate. I personally do not like spicy food, but their spicy tuna and their spicy salmon is DELICIOUS! The fish used in the sushi is so fresh compared to other sushi spots and it makes a huge difference especially since I order the simpler rolls, like the salmon avocado and spicy yellowtail. The two rolls for $10 lunch special is a great value for the quality plus you get to choose a side of salad, soup or water with your meal. Truly good sushi is hard to find. However, when one finds a place that serves nothing but great quality sushi, it is an honor to the taste buds, especially if sushi is your thing. The flavors at Oyishi Sushi are deep and complex, the presentation is beautifully arranged, and the quality of the ingredients as a whole is top notch. I have eaten at Oyishi Sushi several times in the past and all I have to say is that each experience is different but equally satisfying. My favorite rolls are, the spicy crab, the California rolls (of course), the avocado rolls, the shrimp tempura and the dragon roll. Each time I go for a bite to eat I just have him pick something in the menu. Today, I had the rock shrimp and words could not explain the pleasure it left in the senses. I came here for lunch yesterday with my mother and was truly impressed! For a small sushi restaurant, the food was really great! I was hesitant at first since i had never been to a sushi place in Hackensack but was very happy with my decision. We ordered a tuna pizza to share, which wasn't the best that I've ever had, but was still pretty good. The fish was fresh and tasty but i wish it wasn't on a cracker. I also ordered the 2 rolls special as my meal with spicy tuna and shrimp tempura and again, the fish was fresh and the meal was filling. My mom got the shrimp fried rice. Ok so if I could I would give 2.5 stars but I cant so here is why. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Gyoza and Blue Crab Fajita which were very good, flavorful, and creative appetizers. The Amazing Tuna, Philly, and Spicy tuna rolls were average neither good nor bad but here is the problem I also had the basic Tuna and avocado roll which thank god I ate last because it was just so chewy and tough that it really just turned me off. Needless to say whatever was left went in the garbage. The Tuna that was in the Tuna/Avocado roll was just such poor quality that it was simply not edible. read more

Came here last night "Valentine" if you make a reservation and have to wait, It's worth it. My date and I enjoyed ever single item we ordered, beyond delicious we paired our rolls with white wine because it is byob. We had their special "aged chicken" which is paired with their specialty mango salsa. The chicken was so good we ordered 2 more to go "Demon roll"was my favorite out of the 5 rolls we ordered. I feel like the quality has lessened. Still better than most, but tonight was the lowest quality from Oishi Sushi. Shrimp Tempura had mushy iceberg lettuce in the roll. The rolls were loose and fell apart when you picked up a piece. Hoping it was an off night. I'll update the next time we order but iceberg lettuce in rolls is not normal. read more

I've gone to Oyishi several times for lunch since they first opened (or re-opened) and it was actually not bad. The fish was fresh and they seemed to have put in some effort in terms of presentation (of both restaurant and the food). I've gone a few times after since I work in the area. I went today with a few co-workers and I will never go again. First off, I'm not sure if they had a change in management or if they had changed their staff. The servers that were usually there are no longer there. There is one server and one chef, and I'm guessing the owner/manager at the back. The chef had to work the sushi bar and the kitchen so the wait was unreasonable. We had to wait 45 minutes for everyone at the table to receive their food. One patron, after waiting for 30 minutes, cancelled his order and left. Before, they used to have those paper place mats and a menu for you to order from. Now, they hand you their to-go/takeout menus for you to look at. As for the menu selection, they seem to have added a lot more items which I think doesn't make sense if you only have one chef there to make all of it. Not very efficient, I would think. As for the food, I ordered the shrimp & veg tempura udon and by far it was the worst I've ever had. I took my first bite of the noodles, and thought "did they soak this in saltwater???". It was SO salty - I tried to suck it up and just eat it but I couldn't because it was "very, very, VERY salty" and asked the server to add more hot water to the soup. She topped off the bowl with hot water and it was STILL salty. It was as if I could literally taste sea salt in my mouth. The tempura was not good either. I never thought you could go this wrong with udon.... They forgot my manager's California roll too. The meal was $12.50 before tax&tip ($11 for the udon and $1.50 for the hot tea they charged me for) and I'm still hungry... and I eat small portions. Entered on a Friday night at 8pm to a restaurant with only one other table for two being served. That should've been my warning to leave but I was hungry and haven't had sushi & sashimi in a while. Gf and I ordered off the AYCE menu which looks like a great deal because it includes many of the specialty rolls, but sadly the sushi chef, the quality of the cuts on the fish, and assembly of the food items fell very short. The proportion of the sushi filling to rice was inconsistent in the rolls (some had a lot of filling while others had too much rice, the fish thickness on the nigiri varied dramatically from piece to piece, and the concept of the Oishi Roll sounds tasty except for the fact that the batter wasn't good enough after frying to maintain it's structure and the plating was similar to an egg dropped on the floor. Pay the extra premium for Minados if you want decent AYCE quality. If you're in the neighborhood, opt for Choripan Rodizio across the street instead. 1 star for being overly ambitious with their AYCE menu at their price point and failing extraordinarily. For $3 less per person I'd be tempted to give 2 stars. read more

This review is for takeout service! I placed an order through Grubhub and the prep time was around 20 minutes. The storefront is pretty small, yet easy enough to find. There's a good amount of street parking in the area, but the seating is limited in the restaurant itself. As soon as I walked in and to the counter, they let me know my order was ready and brought it out right around the 20 minute mark, so that was a huge plus. I ordered the Chicken Ramen for $11 and It was simple and tasty with 2 diff kinds of mushrooms, spinach, seaweed, broccoli, snap peas, lean chicken breast strips & an egg on top. Yum!! I so love this place.. Fresh sushis and rolls while they prepare it infront of you. Me , my BFF and hub decided to dine here after having lunch at a Vietnamese and cafe at a French shop to end the nite with all you can eat Japanese food. To my amazement this was an excellent place in spite of a rainy wet day last nite we travelled to come here and it was indeed a wonderful experience. The place is small but good enough for the place.. Neat, very tidy and actually a cute place to dine with. The staff are friendly and excellent. Awesome people and I give them that credit. The food wow.. I'm Speechless with their rolls & entree.. It was tasty, a lot and a real Japanese food.. The " salmon and their sushis are all fresh " a place I would go back to with my family & friends. Parking .. Metered parking across the street. I was in the area and did a quick Yelp search for some sushi. I didn't read any of the reviews but I saw it was highly rated so I ventured in. All I have to say is WOW, talk about fresh fish. I didn't realize it was AYCE until the waitress told us that because they recently opened they are running a AYCE special for $21. On one side the menu has a number of apps and basic rolls. The other side had specialty rolls, the waitress told us the AYCE was the entire menu so we ordered a bunch of specialty rolls and not one were a disappointment. My favorite rolls were the Red Dragon, Fire Island and shrimp tempura with crab on top. I used to always go to Sushi X in Ridgewood for AYCE sushi but this will be my new spot. The restaurant is small so I probably wouldn't go with more than a group of 4. I also usually stay away from new establishments until they work all their kinks out but Oyishi Sushi had great service and ran very smoothly. read more
