I went in for a simple oil change last summer but was surprised by how the guys who worked there tried to rip me off and sell me stuff I didn't need. Basically, after doing a routine check on my car, they told me that I needed to replace several fluids or else damage the engine (this would have cost me at least $100 more). I only did the oil change. When I took my car into the Lexus dealership a few months later for another service I asked them to check the fluids that the Oil Changers employees wanted me to replace. As it turns out, the fluids were fine and my car's engine is in excellent shape. I am a young woman with a limited knowledge of mechanics. I'm disappointed with and still angry at Oil Changers since I feel the mechanics lied to take advantage of me and sell me services that my car didn't need. read more

I took my car to Oil Changers three times for oil changes over the last year and a half or so. Just went to another oil change place for the first time and they said that they didn't want to mess with my car because the drain plug was cross-threaded and leaking -- no point in changing oil if it will just drip out. I went back to Oil Changers to ask them why my drain plug was cross-threaded and leaking. They looked up their records, found my previous visit, and pointed out that they had made a note that the threads were "stripped/damaged on arrival" and that it was clearly not their fault. Can't blame them, right? Then I went home, found my receipt for the visit before that -- the last three changes were all at that Oil Changers -- and lo and behold, no mention of stripped/damaged threads on the report (or on the first report from Oil Changers). So, magically, my drain plug threads became stripped and damaged sometime between the second and third visit to Oil Changers, without anyone anywhere else ever touching the drain plug. I guess that is possible. Or, more likely, one of the untalented people at Oil Changers mangled my plug when they put it on and they have been trying their best either to ignore it or hope that they can pin it on someone else. Either way, its at least $100 for a new oil pan and no way I'll ever take my car back to these guys. read more

Great crew--very friendly, professional and they made sure my car was in good shape.

Great customer service. Quick work. And you can stay in your car the whole time. This is definitely my go to oil change spot now!

I have been coming to this location for 5 years and always get great service from Alton, who is extremely friendly and helpful. I can call him to see how busy they are, and he always tells me the truth and gets me right in. I now have 3 kids who drive cars, and the whole family uses Alton at Oil Changers Berkeley exclusively. I can always trust him when he advises me of mechanical issues I need to look for. I am very pleased with his service. read more

Guys here are really great. Friendly. Knowledgeable. No BS. They do free topups, check for things like weird air filters, and never push things you don't need. Can't go wrong here. read more

Took my truck in to this place because it it is closer to my job than the place I normally go to in El Cerrito. Paid a bit more for the same quality of oil & filter than I normally assuming the extra $18 would be worth it. Not worth it, & now very much regret it. Also, the service charge included window cleaning which was not performed. I did take my car back this past Sunday and the guy with the glasses was cool in rolling up his sleeves to clean my windows he said "I am sorry we owe it to you", so I am happy with him. The "other guy" that took the complaint did not do a good job, typical mechanic full of BS. I explained and showed him pics & he tried to tell me was not their fault then focused on the spill coming from the filter area. Who is he fooling, spill came from pan area and messy technician! He was bs'ing me so heavy I just tuned him out and in my head swore never to go back and to warn all my friends and coworkers. Now I as soon as I have time have to find a car wash service to wash the underside of my truck. Folks, save your money, drive an extra 20 miles away to a place that will not short change (they will forget to do something& you'll then have to spend gas & time to complain to get it done) you, and will be careful with your vehicle. read more

These guys are great! They are friendly, personable, and most importantly honest. I felt like they were honest with what my car needed, told me if there was anything out of the ordinary, and weren't pushy about anything! If you want great service, knowledgeable crew, and convenience... you need to go here! read more

I'll open this review by saying that I am a person who in a former life prided myself on doing all my own auto maintenance. Ever changed a starter motor in a parking lot? Drained and flushed your differential? How about rebuilt your distributor on the side of the interstate? I have. Needless to say, I am highly critical of auto mechanics, especially fast-food style auto mechanics. Despite all my reservations, I have to give these guys props. They seem very professional, are reasonably fast, and get the job done for about the same price as it would cost for me to buy the oil and filter and do it myself. The last time I was there, they even gave me a discount on my air filter, making it about 25% cheaper than the auto parts store. And I got to sit in my car and surf my smartphone like the yuppie that I've become. Any time you have work done on your vehicle you should verify said work yourself when you get home - check your oil drain plug (so you don't end up like that guy with the bad review), the oil level, look around under the hood, etc. That said, it's been so far so good with Oil Changers, and I'll probably be going back for a transmission flush soon. They're just cheaper and easier than doing it myself. read more

I've been a regular for a little under a year and every single time I've had good service. Both the quality of the product and workers are above average. Being a young woman that doesn't know jack about cars the workers always give me their patience and energy to answer all of my questions. Usually getting an oil change is a drag to take out of your day. But knowing I go here doesn't make it half bad. read more

I drove in, I drove out. 1985 Mercedes 300D. The quote was baseline 60 bucks for the oil change and then they started rattling off the other charges they'd pile on top of that--until I stopped them. "I'm gonna go now." Nice guys. Wrong place for me. read more

I have never been to this specific location but I figured they're all the same. Today's visit took an hour.. an hour. Although they were very nice, I was surprised to find them slow. OC is normally fast so I was getting annoyed they wouldn't focus on my car when it was my turn. They would go to other cars and attend to them. It was frustrating to see 2 cars that came after me, leave before me! Another interesting thing was I was sold something that I have never been offered before at my normal location. Initially I was confused as to why he was removing this particular part out of my car, then I saw he opened a new package, so I assumed I was getting something fixed complimentary. Then he put the new and old side-by-side to show why he highly suggested why I needed to buy this new part. After realizing it's a sales ploy, the fact he already removed the part and opened a new package, I just agreed as its been 50 minutes and I was over it. Even after this, he was taking his time installing it. My normal oil changers location has always been amazing so I had to wonder why the sudden change? At one point I actually started to think if they were treating me different because I was female. It was disappointing as its not what I expected. We had somewhere to be and since it took so long it really affected our mood negatively. read more

I have been getting all my oil changes here for a couple of years now. Great affordable price. The staff is really awesome in recommending discounts or group on. Always Great Customer service. In and out very quickly. Friendly Staff. read more

Worst. Nobody came to talk to me and I waited 45 min. Then when I asked how much longer, they quoted 15 more min. The most UN speedy service. Would never come here. read more

It was my second time back here today, and these guys were just as awesome as the first time. In fact, they even told me I didn't need an oil change. I thought I was due for my Corolla's usual 5000 mile interval, but I still had 2000 more miles to go. So instead, they were nice enough to just wash my windows and check my tire pressure! So honest, so friendly. read more

Great service and Shawn Hamilton was wonderful. A wealth of knowledge, super friendly and efficient. Much appreciated for everything!

The guys that work here are, hands down, the nicest mechanics I've ever interacted with. I drove up on a Saturday morning at 9:30am, no wait, left 15 minutes later with new oil, air in my tires, new transmission fluid, and clean windows. Will be back in 6 months! read more

YOU WILL WAIT FOREVER. Beware! They claim an oil change is 10 minutes but they do lots of services beyond oil changes that are way more than 10 minutes. I got stuck behind someone getting a full transmission fluid change and I waited for 45 minutes. At no time did anyone ever tell me it was going to be a longer than expected wait. When I asked someone they told me it would be " a few minutes ". They basically don't care about customer service. There are so many other oil change places that you can rely on that you should SKIP OIL CHANGERS. read more

Friendly guys working there, normal prices. I'll be back. Seems like I always get hit up for extra services when I get an oil change, but that's probably because I go too long between changes. My fault. The oil system cleaning was cheaper than I've paid in the past though which was a plus. read more

I am very disappointed in the service I received from this oil changers location. I would not suggest anyone to shop with this corporation anywhere. I arrived to oil changers on March/14/2020 to get only my vehicle a oil change. When I arrived to oil changers there was no issues with my vehicle. The young employee started to assist me so I let him know "I came for a oil change". He began to get more information about the car that he was in need of and let me know the price. I then gave the employee the cash for the oil change while the other After the employees did there task and what it was that they did I was given a receipt. Then was told I had one head or back light that needed replacement. I was not aware of a "Major oil leak" and it was not brought to my attention by none of the employees. So on April 15 2020 as I am on my way home my car stop in the middle of traffic. I get it to the side of the road and see there is no motor oil inside of my engine. My vehicle had to stay there over and I call the oil changer location on April 16 to notify them of the situation. When the oil changers employee come from his location to see my vehicle. He let me know the oil filter was not fully tight as it was supposed to be. He look at other things around the engine then gives me his opinion about the motor oil being empty. I ask him "why is there no oil stains outside of my house if there was a major leak". He then notice there was not even oil outside anywhere in my parking area. So he then say "the motor oil may have burnt or it maybe is a small leak". So I point out the fact of "there has not been a oil drop on the ground the whole time he been here". Then the only thing he can really tell me is to tow it to a shop because. I told him I did not want to drive it and make it any worse than it is already. he just kept telling me I have to go to the shop or he really can't tell me anything else. Now I can't drive my vehicle anywhere not even to the store. Why was my oil filter not tight all the way as it should be what else did you people mess up???????!! read more

Oil Changers - Oil Change Stations Near Me - Berkeley, California

These guys are awesome! If you need to get an oil change done these are your people; super friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy with your vehicle/ time. I brought in my 2010 Prius and after the oil change they noticed my air filter needed to be replaced and they had one at the shop. Couldn't have been an easier situation. I will always bring my Prius here living in Berkeley! read more

Ricky and Marco saved my rear end! I had to get the oil changed for a client and jiffy lube shut down before the time specified on the internet(they hadn't had a car for three hours so management makes them shut down early on account of wanting to save money! Aka they don't want to pay people to sit on the clock.) Oil changers still had customers when I called and they said I could squeeze in. I was only 4 blocks away so I made it by 7:03. Apparently everyone closes at 7pm in the oil changing business of Alameda county. Anyways! I was done in 15 minutes, signed onto yelp, got $5 off, drove out of there paying $36.84! I can't remember the last time I paid that little. These guys are profesional, affordable, courteous and definitely went out of their way for me. read more

This place was very efficient. You just drive up, and you don't even have to get out of the car while they change your oil. They also seemed like honest people telling me what I needed and what I didn't need. I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me a lot of extra. Good experience. read more

Oil Changers in West Berkeley gets 5 stars from me because I got exactly what I wanted: an oil change. It's not the hardest service to mess up (and I can't speak beyond the oil change) but they came through on their business promise: an oil change in about 15 minutes. I'm not even sure if it took 15 minutes even! It is first-come, first-serve and I didn't have to wait (but I also went midday on a weekday.) The staff was friendly and very polite. They did not try to up-sell me on services which I appreciate. I found a coupon on their website for $4 off an oil change and they also had a pay full price for 3 oils changes, get the 4th free deal as another option. I believe synthetic oil change is about $75 and regular oil change is about $45. They were quick, efficient and courteous. I'll go back for my next oil change. read more

This was my first visit and I went based on Yelp reviews. I was extremely pleased to have no wait and super quick service. I hadn't been to a place where you remain in your car as the service is performed, and driving into the service bay with open floor unnerved me slightly, but the crew inspired my confidence. They were cheery and seemed to operate as a team. I am very like to return to this shop. Here are the reasons I rated it 4 stars instead of 5, which I'm offering as suggestions for providing even better service. 1) I would have liked to understand the pricing and options a little better. I was only offered synthetic oil, which is a good choice, but is a little more expensive than alternatives. I don't think I would have made a different choice, just appreciate having choices. 2) They made a point of showing me the dipstick and the air filter (condition was fine) before the service, but didn't show me any afters, including used oil filter. However, I realize I wouldn't have expected those things if the pre-service demos hadn't been done. 3) When I asked whether they had topped off the fluids, including windshield washer fluid, and after a few back and forths among them, they added it. It was a bit disconcerting that it hadn't been done. 4) They wanted me to start the car after the completion of the service to make sure everything was intact and there were no oil leaks, but neither they nor I could get the engine going because the car is a hybrid and only the electric motor kicked in. Given how many hybrids are on our streets, seems like they should have figured out how to manage this. 5) Finally, they tried to advise me on how to turn off the maintenance required alert, referring to some written instructions they had. With their help I navigated to the place to do it, but they suggested I reset all the alerts, which didn't seem like the right approach, so I didn't do it and need to use the owner's manual to figure it out. read more

Had an issue where my we put the wrong oil in the car. It was running bad. We hoped the solution was an oil change and not something major. Three guys working on a Saturday got right on it. They flushed it out and changed the oil and our car ran perfectly. Thanks guys! read more

Do NOT have the mechanic Chris work on your car. If they assign him to you ask for someone else. I just left there and he had spilled power steering fluid all over the inside of my engine! They were doing a flush and it I guess was supposed to be on vacuum? It made a huge mess!!!! He's an idiot! And he was flushing the fuel system and didn't realize the canister was empty, someone named Nguyen had to come help him do everything! He's useless! Other than that, the other guy was nice. This review is only for Chris! I'll not be coming back :/. Back to 9-minute lube in Palo Alto by my work. At least there everyone knows what they're doing! read more

I was running late to work on a Saturday, but I was in need of an oil change. I had about 15 minutes to get an oil change and I knew these guys were fast. After pulling into the bay I mentioned to them that I didn't have much time, but really needed an oil change. The guy said he would take care of it. 8 minutes later I was pulling out of the bay and I ended up making it to work early. But what was most surprising was that they also were able to clean my windows, fill my coolant, fill my washer fluid, and do an overall inspection. They are a solid team with exceptional customer service and I would recommend them to anyone! read more

I've been coming here for some time now. This morning was probably my 6th oil change and 2nd car they've worked on. But this time, I realized how thorough these guys are. They top off all of your fluids - even the transmission oil, if necessary - check the filters, tire pressure, lights, etc and they're friendly AND quick. Another Yelp reviewer said they're prices are slightly higher than other places. I disagree. I've called at least 8 other places in the Berkeley area to ask about the prices of a synthetic oil change. This place is the cheapest By FAR! I can't vouch for the prices of their other services, since I haven't bothered to shop around and compare the prices for those things. read more

I just had the best experience at this Oil Changers. My oil light had come on, when it was way to soon so I drove there quite flustered. The guys really went the extra mile for me.
