    Classic Hawaiian Poke
    Mary B.

I am excited to see this place opened. I've tried poke in southern Maine and my boyfriend has had it several times in Hawaii so he had high standards. We both enjoyed our bowls and the price was exceptional for the amount of fresh fish (sourced from Portland) and produce. One bowl was enough for two meals so for $18 bucks I found it to be a great deal.

Highly recommend! I went in for the first time last night and the two people working could not have been more friendly. The person making my bowls helped me decide, gave recommendations and explained how some things were prepared. He highly suggested the bulgogi beef! I had the spicy tuna bowl myself and it was fantastic and well worth the price. I loved it so much that I am going back today.

Sorry, fellas. This sushi is extremely average at best. Had to get the sushi "yacht" for two. But the nigiri was kind of weird. The rice tasted warm. Not like, perfect temperature from the hands of the itamae, but weird tepid lukewarm sitting around rice. The sashimi didn't seem so fresh to me, and sushi grade quality was questionable. The roll also seemed to be at an odd temperature. Overall I was rather disappointed. The best part for me was the sake. But my date (outside of her comfort zone) did seem to like it overall. I don't want to be negative, but this is definitely a "won't visit again" for me.

My wife and I shared three maki: vegetable tempura, inari (sweet marinated tofu), and avocado dream. We would love to return to try some of their many other vegetarian options. The vegetable tempura roll, which contained broccoli, green bean, sweet potato, onion tempura, and sweet brown glaze, was probably my favorite. This roll was huge, so open wide! The avocado dream was a close second, with sweet potato, avocado, and cream cheese. It's tempura fried with a truffle mayo on top, which gave it a really unique flavor! Though not as fancy as the two specialty maki, the inari maki was delicious too. The service was prompt and the kitchen was efficient, so we had plenty of time to get to our next destination without worrying. I'd love to return if I'm ever back in Brunswick!

Their last day of service is 8/31/25 announced recently on their social media accounts. My wife and I knew we needed to make one more trip here and glad to say we got one more visit in! The vibes have been similar over the past couple years during our visits. They have a tropical/island vibe with Asian inspired menu items along with some late night bites. They also do a phenomenal job with cocktails, and I would add mocktails as well which my wife and I each tried one tonight. Looks wise you would not even be able to tell it was non-alcoholic and the flavors were great too. I got their Platonic Best Friend which had a good spice to it, while my wife got the Lack of Meow that she loved. Food wise we each got a Double Patty Burger and split an order of the house fries. Both were just as good as all our other visits and the fries were even more seasoned than normal. We will miss both burgers and fries and especially the dipping sauce that comes with the fries. Lastly we had never tried their dessert and the Maine Blueberry Cake they had sounded so tempting, my wife's favorite fruit is blueberries. Every bite was amazing and my wife even said it was the fastest she has ever eaten a dessert. Was the perfect end cap to our final visit to Paper Tiger! We will miss this being a late night spot for us to grab a burger while people watching the madness of Fore Street bars closing. Service was fantastic with no complaints. The only negative I could mention is that talking to our server about being sad about them closing and they let us know the staff only found out about it one day before the social media post went out. Leaving them with minimal time to find another job. Hope they all can find a new job right away. If you have the chance before they close get over here for one last drink or bite!

They lean heavy into the Tiger theme here. The place is totally decked out in knick knacks, artwork, and more. It's cozy but chic, with huge booths on the other side of the bar, good for big drunken outings I imagine, considering how they are known for their late night scene. We chose the small but comfy wicker chairs at the bar and got glasses of wine - $2 off on happy hour! Our bartender was super sweet and helped us with our order. We got the double smash burger and Szechuan wings with Thai chili sauce on the side. Food came out hella quick. The wings were little but they were so *crispy* and the Szechuan seasoning was tasty and not too overpowering. It was rated as 3 chili peppers on the menu but I didn't really detect any spice. Thai chili was sweet, tangy, solid. Our burger was good. I imagine it's modeled after a Big Mac - had all similar ingredients - just better beef, pickles, etc. It went down easy. I think I was just missing more flavor, maybe a little greasier, something cravable. But hey, if you've been out drinking and you need a late night snack, I guarantee that puppy will hit the spot. Their cocktail menu is an attraction in and of itself. The more you read through it, the more hilarious and charming it is. We will definitely be back to try some of them, especially one of their "party" bowls meant for multiple guests. Love the innovation and playfulness here! Can't wait to return!

We all got combos. The General Tso's chicken was the nicest surprise - nice quality chicken breast meat. I enjoyed my Thai Fried rice, however the flavors were a bit dull, however, I still enjoyed it. The Vegetable Gyoza was nice and flavorful. The dumplings were plump and delicious. Inside, was dark and didn't look like the dining area was open. When we walked in, we were acknowledged our order was processed and we were on our way. It was a very transactional experience. it's nice there was a parking lot. I might visit again, if someone is unable to eat MSG.

I'm not paying $25 for old spinach that you're calling wilted. We saw a little farmers market thing going on in a little park on the walk over to Joshua's but it had ended by the time we realized our mistake and tried to walk back. Then we spot this little hole in the wall. It looked like it was once a gas station Asian food restaurant. The front of the building read: Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. We like all of those things so we headed over and took a chance. They no longer offer table service, but there was a sign that said you're welcome to eat your food inside, so we did. The menu was like any other Asian restaurant, all the staples were there, the lunch specials that include your eggroll and soup, choice of fried rice or white rice. So we ordered a couple lunch specials. And two are surprised it was insanely good. It wasn't like fine dining Asian food, it was more like comfort Asian food. My pad Thai was real pad Thai, it was sweet and it was sour, it was the spice level I asked for! It did not taste like spicy dried peanut butter rubbed all over rice noodles. There was a fantastic sauce to it. The miso soup I ordered was light and refreshing, yet comforting, like something your mom would make. The outside of this building looks like it's going to make you sick, ignore that part and go inside.

Salmon, tuna, yellowtail. Oh, and yes, you get the miso soup and salad on top of that. I'm always surprised when I go in to find that every seat is not filled at this spot. One of the biggest changes has been the complete turnover of the staff. All of the original people who made the place welcoming and enjoyable seem to be gone, and the difference has absolutely shown in both the service and overall experience. The food quality has become inconsistent and, at times, marginal compared to what originally brought us in. We've also dealt with repeated order mistakes, inattentive service, and an overall lack of attention to detail during several recent visits. Everyone understands that restaurants can have an off night, but this has become a pattern rather than an exception. What was especially disappointing was that we took the time to privately contact ownership about these concerns and never received any response at all. We weren't looking for compensation or special treatment, just acknowledgment and some indication that customer feedback mattered. Kume had a lot of promise when it first opened, which makes this frustrating to write. Unfortunately, based on our recent experiences, the quality control, consistency, and customer service are no longer close to where they once were.
