Not bad for east coast sushi. We were seated at the bar, it's a pretty small restaurant. Unfortunately, we were on the end of the bar, near the window, so farthest away from any servers or bartenders. Service was ok, nothing super special. But the sushi was fresh and they had good options for traditional types of nigiri or other makis and appetizer dishes. All the food was tasty and I enjoyed the sushi, the prices were pretty typical for what I've seen here on the east coast.

We had the omakase sashimi which included local uni and tuna, delicious. Cool drinks, fabulous atmosphere and staff.

Fantastic sushi. Service was outstanding. Small and cozy setting. Great cocktails. Street parking. Make a reservation!

One of the best sushi restaurants in Portland Maine! Decided to check this place out with my husband during our visit and thoroughly enjoyed their sushi amongst all other food :) server was also very generous and made our date night special. We were also sitting by the sushi counter, which was entertaining to watch the chefs in action! Overall, would definitely come back here again and try some of their other menu items during our next visit in town.

I eat a lot of sushi...more than a person needs honestly. This was my first time dining at Miyake, and I can confidently say that this my favorite sushi spot in Portland, Maine! First off, try to make reservations as early as you can. We got lucky with a last minute reservation, but this is a small, intimate dining room. There are tables and bar seats available, and I highly recommend the bar seating so you can watch the sushi chefs at work. Secondly, all of the food is incredible. When we asked our server for tips on the menu, we were impressed when she basically named everything they serve. It turns out she was completely right. We shared the super toro roll, saba gari roll, duck nikuman buns, and a bottle of orion lager. This was the perfect amount of food for two hungry people. More importantly, the quality of the food went above and beyond other sushi spots in the area (even my other favorite restaurants). Each roll looked beautiful and my picture does not do it justice. They were beautifully plated and I enjoyed every bite of both rolls. I also cannot speak highly enough of the duck buns. They were savory and warm, making them a start to our dinner on a chilly day. Miyake is incredible and I only wish I had known about this place sooner. If you're on the fence about coming here, just come try it out for yourself.

Make reservation ahead because the restaurant is a small seating restaurant. They just reopened on December 1st, 2022 after closed for few years. Simple tight menus so easy to navigate. I will recommend the omakashe hashun ( appetizers) $35 for a bunch of small apps that super tasty. The winner is the duck. Yummy and juicy I ordered Saba gari roll. Totally recommended. The roll size is generous so 1 roll is actually quite filling not like many other Japanese restaurant in portland who serve skinny roll and charged like crazy. Between omakase sushi or sashimi, I will definitely go for sashimi. It's obviously cost more but since it come in 2 Pcs or 3 pcs ( u can upgrade for more $$$) u can share with friends while obviously u can't share the sushi The Kamameshi is the weakest point from the meal that I ordered. The rice need to be slightly more crispy but it's not much an issue

By far the best high-end Japanese restaurant in Portland (and dare I say Maine!), Miyake offers an upscale dining experience for those with a refined palette and a love of world-class sushi. Although dining at Miyake will cost you a pretty penny, it's worth every cent. The quality of the fish and inventiveness of the dishes are next level. I thoroughly enjoyed the lobster egg drop soup, nasu nibi tashi (an eggplant dish), and chirashi (pictured below). Anything omakase (chef's choice) is a must! Excellent service, quiet ambience, 5/5!

A MAZE ING. Perfect flavors and textures. The service and time it took to get the food made were both incredible.

Quick update: I highly recommend Miyake as a place to stop in for lunch, too! It's a quieter vibe than dinner, so perfect for grabbing a seat at the sushi bar. There are bento box lunch specials and chef's choice sushi and sashimi, or you can order rolls from the lunch menu; I had a wonderful red snapper ceviche roll and of course, their wonderful miso soup!

One of the biggest changes has been the complete turnover of the staff. All of the original people who made the place welcoming and enjoyable seem to be gone, and the difference has absolutely shown in both the service and overall experience. The food quality has become inconsistent and, at times, marginal compared to what originally brought us in. We've also dealt with repeated order mistakes, inattentive service, and an overall lack of attention to detail during several recent visits. Everyone understands that restaurants can have an off night, but this has become a pattern rather than an exception. What was especially disappointing was that we took the time to privately contact ownership about these concerns and never received any response at all. We weren't looking for compensation or special treatment, just acknowledgment and some indication that customer feedback mattered. Kume had a lot of promise when it first opened, which makes this frustrating to write. Unfortunately, based on our recent experiences, the quality control, consistency, and customer service are no longer close to where they once were.

Maybe the lights were a little harshly bright, but otherwise a fine place to dine. We didn't get too many things, as we stopped in more for a finisher for the evening than full meal (we'd come from a party with small foods). We ordered a shoyu ramen and a dragon roll. Interesting note on the dragon roll, it has a sweet potato interior. This led to a distinct flavor from other rolls I've had in the past, and a smooshier texture, but a good roll nonetheless. The ramen was mostly a delight. Sumptuous broth, the egg was not too hard nor soft, and almost all the ingredients were perfect. Which I usually avoid that word because it's too subjective, but it seems to fit here. Major exception is the chashu pork. It was overcooked to the extreme. No other word for it, these dried out circles of meat were thick and chewy, and soaking them in the broth couldn't save them. Sad. Otherwise, some of the best ramen I've had since leaving Japan. The only other note I'd have is I just wanted some tea, and had to order a weird tea concoction to get it. Sometimes you'd just like an oolong tea, nothing fancy. I recommend this restaurant, overall, and hope you enjoy it too.

You could easily sip a glass of sake (the dreamy clouds was...dreamy) while eating a toro maki roll and marveling at the tourists waiting in a two hour Eventide line. But we ordered the lemongrass fried tofu salad, salmon toro sashimi and 3 maki rolls, including the green crab special. Everything tasted fresh and excellent with only Yosaku in the same league for Old Port sushi. Of course Yosaku is much more authentic Japanese than Mr. Tuna, though Mr. Tuna is more fun. We showed up with a small line waiting to get in/pick up orders. Once inside we waited a little bit for the staff to arrive to greet us, once they did we were told it would be a wait for a table or could sit at the kitchen bar right away. We snagged the two furthest bar seats with a slight peak into the kitchen watching food being prepared. They had QR codes around for you to scan to pull up the menu. Overall it's a small space as well as being a thin and narrow space. Be ready for a possible wait for a spot to open up. To start off we grabbed some cocktails, my wife got their Shiso Lucky (Roku Gin, shiso, lime) and I got Kochi Sunset (Shochu, yuzu, blood orange). Also for a starter we decided to have the Lobster Buns. Cocktails were great and well made. The lobster buns were a fantastic unique way of enjoying lobster. My wife did find the texture of the bun to be not ideal but overall enjoyed it. Entree wise we both decided on the duck ramen. We both enjoyed it very much, my wife could have done without the menma (fermented bamboo shoots). I wish it had more duck in it honestly. The duck was extremely tasty in both the normal meat and meatball. For our return eventually we will both likely try a different ramen to branch out. Overall a pretty solid overall experience. Some small changes could make me change it to a five star from my current four. It certainly fulfilled the ramen craving and I could see this being a no -brainer for stopping at during the brutal winters Maine has.
