"Garlic fries" - just disgusting fried chunks of garlic

Wow... So not sure if they sold to someone else or just cratered in the quality of their food. I came here late night months and months ago. Never finished the review, but had been excited to come back. It was a four star review that started like this: "Rare for there to be places that just tick the boxes with a smile. The food, delicious, unpretentious. Got the beer battered shrimp and Buffalo wings. " I remember the proprietor was friendly and the food was delicious. Fast forward to today...Wth? The food was just gross. The worst fried food, thick coating, stale tasting chicken with a fetid green/black color, popcorn shrimp was hard and reheated...I could keep going on and on. It's just really hard to believe this is the same place. It's a travesty that this location gets to keep up the old photos. Just tragic. Update- chicken wasn't just stale, that was left out, I just ended up throwing up several times.

Ordered thru DoorDash for their fish & chips. First time I've ordered was better. Second time, it was alright. Kinda bland. I still prefer Tugboat's fish & chips. The size of the fish was pretty good tho. I think next time I would want to try their shrimp tacos and Parmesan garlic wings.

My first time here by the reviews it seemed like a pretty good place decided to drive down 15 min and give it a try on my lunch break. Placed an order online 30 mins before it opened which I didn't realize they open at 11:30. Pretty disappointed. I ordered the cod fish and fries and my fries aren't fresh they are old fries.

What a delightful find in the previous waves seafood storefront. The food was extremely fresh tasting and my fish and chips were cooked to perfection - not oily or heavy with batter so the cod flavor really came through. My daughter had the terryaki chickens wings with sweet potato fries and they were quite good with loads of umami flavor. We took our food to go because it was cold and rainy and sat in the car at Ancil Hoffman park watching the birds play in the rain puddles and rivulets. A nice break from the endless ho hum of work at home world.

Love this place. Its a great hole in the wall with amazing food. It doesn't look impressive and you should be prepared to wait. Its small family owned. Its worth it. The cauliflower is the best I've ever had. I never knew it could taste like that. The wings, spring rolls, fish and chips were all incredible. Our vegan daughter loves this place for their vegan quesadilla and the cauliflower. Just tell them you want vegan. We are hooked. Prices are very reasonable.

I decided to stop in for take out after hearing lots of good reviews. Little bit of a wait but the food was very fresh. They gave me fresh chips and a jalapeño with crab in it that was amazing. I prefer smaller pieces of fish but for those that like large pieces of fish this is a great meal. It's huge so could easily feed two people. read more

This is a good place to bring someone that doesn't like fishy tastes. I got the fish and chips (London Style) and I wasn't disappointed. Even my wife liked it and she doesn't like fishy tastes. She told me to order 2 of them next time so we don't have to share one. read more

Just got a to go order from here tonight. Super impressed and super yummy. Owner was very nice and gave out some free samples. Bonus! The portions are very generous and well priced. The house made sauces are excellent, especially the tartar and orange. Definetly recommend the crab stuffed shrimp. Outstanding! It's going to be hard to stay on a diet eating there, so I'll have to balance that, but I will definitely be coming back. read more

First time in Wave, won't be the last. There are several options on the menu that are not fried, including grilled salmon, tilapia, cod and shrimp. I had a delicious grilled salmon on a fresh salad. The fish is all fresh only and there are several house-made dressings. Good variety, ample serving size, and multiple options of fried food that tastes fresh with no oily aftertaste. Service was very good and prompt; I visited during a quiet time. They also deliver. This is in a plain, small suite in a glass front on Fair Oaks Blvd. Ambiance is the only reason I can't give a 5; I would rate it a 4.5 if I could. I will return, they are open 7 days a week including sundays!! read more

Ordered from Door Dash due to the high ratings. Door Dash was late but the owner called to verify I did in fact order and he was ready to find a new driver so I'd get my food. Luckily Door Dash had just alerted me that they were on the way so that wasn't necessary. I honk they did make me a new order so I'd get a hot meal however. This first impression however gave me high hopes. The food was excellent upon arrival. Still hot and crunchy fish and the fries were nice as well. I got all the sauces and had fun trying them all. All were good. The Orange was my favorite. Already passed the word on to friends this place is one to frequent! read more

Sooooooo good! Food is crazy fresh, which is obvious when you start eating. We had the Tsunami (fish and chips enough easily for 2) and the fish tacos. Tacos come with 3 big ones topped with a fresh cabbage and fresh salsa topping. They also have a good selection of house made sauces to try, and a couple of non-fish dishes. Very friendly, great service. Stop by if you like fish and chips, you won't be disappointed. read more

Fresh fish fried to order and hand cut fries. You really can't ask for much more than that. Not only is the food great but the owner is an incredibly nice man. He made recommendations for which sauce he would pair with each item ordered. He also ran to the back to get bowls of water for a couple of dogs for another customer whose dogs were outside with her on a hot day. Good food and great service. Visited this small new business yesterday. It was quite a delight. The food was tasty and fresh. All homemade sauces are available to apply onto your food for an extra burst of flavor. I tried this place for the first time last week and it was really good. The guy gave me and my buddy some samples of other things on the menu and it was all delicious. I recommend this place if you haven't tried it yet. I got the fish n chips and it came with a side salad. Very good service and food. read more

I enjoy a traditional fish and chips since I'm from the Midwest! This was place was definitely comparable but needs a little improving. I like the option to have malt vinegar or target sauce available with my fish. Overall it was a good experience though. read more

Tried on the basis of other reviews. Ordered plain fish and chips, the clerk offered me an order that hadn't been picked up..I shouldn't have said yes! Generous piece of fish with a soggy coating; ho-hum fries, everything over salted. Nobody offered any sauces..did I miss them somewhere? read more

This local fish and chips restaurant deserves 5 stars! I ordered their #1A, something bread crumbed fish and chips haha, forgot the name. But it was REALLY GOOD! I read some posts that said their fish was bland and I would disagree. It's plenty flavorful, their sauces are tasty, and lemon juice from a lemon slice topped it off PERFECTLY! My fries were just ok, but I'm a fry fanatic and I like 'em salty, so it's hard for me to give an unbiased opinion on fries. The fish was good and that's what I came for! Will come back again for sure! read more

Place is well decorated and clean. guy behind the counter was nice and welcoming. I ordered fish and chips.when i got home to eat it. Pulled apart the fried fish in and began to eat it the fish smelled like ammonia. The fries were good, not overly seasoned or greasy. This place is off the "hook" fresh!!! We ordered an appetizer and my husband had the Tsumami ... this fish was hugs and the seasoning is perfect!! There are nine (9) different sauces! On the recommendation from my nephew who said it was the best fish and chips ever, my husband and I decided to give it a go. The owner greeted us very enthusiastically and was very helpful in getting us to the best selections for us. He also brought us out some samples. The thing is, though, we were told that the fish in the Tsunami fish and chips was cod and it looked and tasted like tilapia. I am not fond of tilapia. Great little hole in the wall fish and chips restaurant. The owner was very nice even giving us samples of fried yams. The fish tacos were very yummy. This is an excellent venue. The food was delicious, the venue was very clean, the owner is great, and the fish and chips, coleslaw and crab filled jalapeños was scrumptious! I tried the fish tacos the other day. They were very good, and the fish tasted nice and fresh. The batter seemed light and fluffy. They were served 3 on a plate with a flavorful fresh salsa mix on the top with shredded cabbage beneath. Lots of choices on the help-yourself sauce bar, my favorite was the garlic aioli. There's plenty of seating indoors with high chairs available if needed. Prices are very reasonable especially for the amount they give you. We opted for a 3 piece fish and chips, two extra fish, and a cup of clam chowder. The food came out relatively quick and piping hot. I was surprised with the quantity of fish they gave us and they even added a fried zucchini and onion, yum! The soup and fries were yummy but it was the fish that really stood out to me. The pieces were big and juicy with not too much batter. The batter was perfectly crispy on the outside. My husband, toddler, and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The service was friendly and wonderful too. We will definitely be back!

Unlike most Hawaiian eateries, this one has table service. The menu has the standards from Hawaiian lunch plate menu. They also offer loco moco katsu curry, fried rice and saimin, and malasadas. We've tried a range of items: kalua pork and cabbage - good flavor; short ribs - tasty delicious; chicken katsu - very crispy good; katsu curry - brings back Hawaiian memories; loco moco - meh; fried saimin - could use more seasoning. One thing is certain about DQ Hawaiian, the portions are big. The mini katsu curry can feed two. I got 3 meals from one fried saimin order. I added the sauce for the BBQ beef to the saimin and it was great. We did try the malasadas. They are made fresh to order and come out blazing hot coated in sugar. They are pretty good hot. But with 10 pieces to an order, it was too much for the two of us to eat in a sitting. It would be great if they'd offered a filled kind in the future. We'll definitely be back for more Hawaiian BBQ.

My waitress was very kind, I believe her name was Tayla(Taylor?) and she truly amplified the dining experience. When I placed my order she asked if I wanted any additional dipping sauces and even made suggestions when I asked her for her opinion. I remember this place from last year when my mom had gotten me takeout and the fried fish she brought home to me smelled of ammonia. I wrote a honest review about it and the owner got mad at me and replied back throwing insults at me for attacking his food. Lol way to go about acting like a professional business owner. He thought I was lying and complaining when I legit never go back to restaurants and get a refund or ever complain about my food. Instead when I wrote my review last year of my fish smelling like ammonia which means it's starting to go bad and decay, the owner got offended and took it as a personal slight like I was attacking his ego. Seriously dude calm down and act like a professional business owner and apologize that the piece of fish I got had received had gone bad and smelled, but instead of apologizing, the owner attacked me the customer. The owner gave excuses of course as to why his food would never go bad. I didn't care what he said, all I knew was that my meal smelled bad and didn't taste fresh. I didn't even take one bite and ended up throwing it all in the trash. Waste of $14 down the drain on ammonia smelling fish. The owner could of offered to replace my meal with a new one, apologized or offered me a refund, but instead he decided to get offended and throw insults at a customer. FYI buddy mistakes still happen in the kitchen buddy and your food was mediocre at best and the fried battered fish I got smelled bad. If you don't believe me, I'll have my white parents come into your store and confront you in person about it if you want to keep on arguing and insulting me on here. Your food isn't anything special and the owner acts like I've just shunned his great ancestors. Lol what is it with asian men who get offended so easily and get bruised egos so easily. First time trying this restaurant and it was wonderful. I had the grilled tilapia served on a bed of lettuce with organic garbanzo and red kidney beans and corn. The fried stuffed mushroom with crab (Yum Yum) are delicious and the fish and chips were lightly battered and not greasy and heavy like some places. Nice variety of drinks. While we waited for our dinner we were treated to fried mushrooms with crab, fried jalapeño with crab and chips while we waited. Everything was reasonably priced. read more

My wife and I decided to try this place since we like to eat locally. It was neat and clean and smelled delightful, and the menu was wonderful, I ordered the Tsunami and it was probably the best fish and chips I ever had. My wife had the Ripple and absolutely loved it. This place is fantastic! Best fried fish I have ever had anywhere. I have had some trouble getting past the Salmon (sooooo tasty!) but on a recent visit I had the cod and it was equally delicious. Nice touches are the homemade aioli and other dressings and they fact that they offer a nice little spring mix side salad instead of coleslaw. Definitely a spot to try! read more

Went for the first time last week. I had the Cod and it's hands down the best fish I have ever eaten. My friend had the Salmon and loved it as well. Huge portions and the sauces are awesome! This Wave Fish and Chips have best fresh fish I can taste the freshness of fish. I bought fish tacos and it was very tasty. Other thing is that they have 9 kind of sauce. Orange sauce, garlic sauce and Tartar sauce is very good. They give you sample for free. read more
