It pains me to write this as I hate writing bad reviews. I bought the wings, beer battered fish, stuffed mushrooms, & fish tacos. Everything was terrible. The fish was chewy, the wings were completely unseasoned and the stuffed mushrooms tasted terrible nor did it have crab. The garlic fries were the best thing and even that was a 5/10. It takes a lot for me to not like food and this was just bad food.. I really wanted to like this place but I won't be returning unfortunately. Prices were very affordable. read more

Unless you have a stomach made of steel, DO NOT go here. First impressions are everything and these people do not care about their business. I'll start off by pointing out the windows covered in cobwebs and dead flies and other bugs. The pricing outside that's completely different from the prices inside and whoever is taking the orders has an entirely different menu priced out in his head and that one is way more expensive. The cod was dry and looked like frozen packaged food from the grocery store, they fool you with the French fries and make it seem like they stuffed the box but they put paper underneath the box so they don't put too much. The next morning was a nightmare and still is till this moment. Your stomachs will be hurting hours later. Somebody needs to call for an inspection on this place. That kitchen is probably terrible. They don't care about this business at all. Please don't go here. I wish I can give NO STARS. Terrible terrible horrible no good Hershey squirts. read more

This restaurant is very clean and has a friendly atmosphere. My kids love fish and since we had to wait for a nearby business to open, we tried Wave. The owner/cashier chatted with my kids while I looked over the menu. After I ordered, this extremely friendly gentleman brought my kids and I samples of their chips and fried jalapeño and mushrooms. Everything was delicious! I would eat here over and over again if I lived closer. Definitely two thumbs up! read more

I love coming here for my lunches! Although the line is usually long and you have to wait about 15 minutes before your order comes out, the customer service is amazing. They always serve you little sample trays of their delicious jalapeño stuffed crab and homemade potato chips. The owner is so nice and has previous restaurant history, so he really knows what he's doing. As far as the food itself, no other fish and chips place in town can compare. Lucky to have this little gem nearby in Carmichael. I've enjoyed the crispy chicken sandwiches and fries many times. I've recently brought my wife and she ordered the fish tacos. Air Conditioning not working. Fan is. Owner out front and wife in kitchen. Interesting "sample". Watch out for the jalapeno deep fried. Fish and chips portion enormous BUT disgustingly greasy and fish smelling. Too many fries that were also dripping grease. When grease for frying is not hot enough this is what happens. Peeled off all the crust and ate the fish-Salad was ok. Lots of sauce choices but none are refrigerated and some are milk and or cheese based. Sticky malt vinegar bottles on the table-same for salt and pepper. For folks that know fish and chips, this is not the place to go. read more

YO! YO! YO! This place is crazy good! I came in on a recommendation from my sister (she hates everything lol) and was not disappointed. I ordered the salmon, they were out of that, so I ordered the fish tacos and I'm so happy I did. The fish in the tacos was hot and fresh big enough portions to make me feel like I was getting more than my money's worth. I think it will take a min for them to realize how much product they need to keep things like salmon on hand I was not upset or disappointed I couldn't get it, they are newly opened after all. The fish tacos were off the chain, I highly recommend the orange sauce if you try the fish tacos it was an awesome addition! Fish was super fresh and hot, they even gave a samples while we waited for our dinner. I am coming back for sure loved the service and food was excellent! This place had fantastic fish! The sea bass is their best but the chips are also delicious. Is that a hint of sugar or what??? The fish tacos are good too and have a nice balance kick too them. This place can be hard to find off of busy Fair Oaks blvd but it is quite a find. The customer service is superb. When I arrive the owner (I think it was the owner) was helping a customer who had car trouble. I got a free sample of chips & stuff jalapeños & crab. I went to the wave last night with my son, his wife and my 8 year old grandson (picky eater). My daughter-in-law had the sword fish and was not impressed. My son order a combo appetizer plate and the Brussel sprouts. We all tasted and all was delicious. He especially like the Brussel sprouts. My grandson order the salmon and french fries. Amazingly he ate almost all of the salmon, so he liked it quite a bit. The fries were also good. I ordered the salmon and a salad. I could do without the corn in the salad, but it was delicious (spinach and romaine lettuce with more goodies on top). The salmon was perfectly cooked and was delicious. Been meaning to check this place out, finally did after recommendations from family. Ordered the fish (#1) and the fried shrimp stuffed with crab (#8?). Was surprised with the quality of the shrimp, I'm a huge fan of it having just enough crab for flavor without feeling like I'm eating stuffing. The fish was flakey, and fell apart appropriately as fresh fish should, also had a nice crunchy batter seasoned about where I like it (not too salty). Seems like a few of the low reviews on here may not have experience with quality seafood or may have been expecting a firm fish, which this is not intended to be. Great first experience for us, we'll be rotating this place into our schedule for sure. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised! We ordered the #2 Tidal which is grilled salmon with a salad, #1a Surf which is crispy breaded cod and fries (you choose between regular fries, sweet potato fries and steak fries). We also ordered fried calamari. There are a generous variety of sauce and dressing choices. Our favorites were the spicy ketchup and the cocktail sauce. The young woman at the counter immediately brought us some samples of the fried crab stuffed mushroom, crab stuffed jalapeño, and the sweet potato chips which are thin cut sweet potato slices fried like a potato chip. All three were delicious and had an added treat (for me) of not including dairy. Our food arrived quickly. It was hot and appealing. Nothing was over or under cooked. The highlight of our meal was definitely the fish -as it should be in my opinion. It was so delicious! I look forward to trying the cod grilled because it was so flavorful on its own. The salad was not ordinary. It has avocado, strawberries, corn, cranberries, spinach, and greens. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The fried calamari was good, and a generous portion. I think the quality of the food is what really counts here. The fried items do not taste as though they've been cooked in the same oil-even if they had, it doesn't taste that way. The fish was clean and fresh tasting. And the prepared items such as the crab stuffed mushrooms and jalapeños appeared to have been made fresh and not frozen. I appreciate that in the future, when we return, we have several healthy options that are not deep fried. We will return! read more

This was our first visit to Wave Fish & Chips and we were very impressed. The gentleman who served us was very friendly and accommodating while we waited for our to go order. He gave us some fresh made chips to sample some of the many sauces they had. Their cod is incredible and very fresh. They also give you a huge meaty slice. Their fries are obviously hand made, and their plate presentation is very neat for a fish & chips joint. I love the lemon strawberry infused water too! I will definitely return to have more. My only suggestion would be and ala carte option for the fish and maybe some deep fried prawns to add to the menu as well. I can tell by the seasoning and breading from the cod that these guys would make some KILLER fried prawns. 5 stars, guys! We were regular customers under the previous owners always having a good meal. Tonight my wife had the breaded fish with fries and I had beer battered. We both had coleslaw with our meal. My beer batter fish was frozen battered fish simply heated up. It was horrid. I couldn't eat it. Besides being doughy, it was too salty to eat. Fries were also way over salted making them unpalatable as well. My wife found her fish, although previously frozen, not that bad. Hers was too salty as well. All in all, very disappointing. Sadly we won't be going back there. We'll be sticking with Tug Boat Fish and Chips. They are delicious. read more

I've eaten and it was decent but the third time was truly awful. The cod is served in large chunk which is difficult to maintain the crispness and it's difficult to dip into the many sauces they offer. I loved this little hole in the wall. Not only was the Fish Tacos delicious, (3 good sized Tacos) filled with battered fish and other goodies and the batter was light and airy. They had a huge water container with fresh lemon and berry water that was so cool and refreshing. They served me up some yummy appetizers while I waited of homemade potato chips, deep fried mushrooms, and Jalapenos. Had fish and chips and it was pretty good.. but also pretty expensive. Was $15 for fish, fries and a soda. Loved the custom sauces. The fish was unfortunately one gigantic file that had to be broken in half to attempt to eat which resulted in half of it falling out of the breading. They definitely should follow suit with most other fish and chips places and cut it down prior to breading and frying. It was quite good, still. The owner is clearly passionate about his food which makes me want to return soon. I do wish they offered a meal with chicken strips too, however. read more

We have been twice now. The fish is very fresh, they have it delivered daily! However, I do suggest asking for it "extra crispy". Their standard is a bit under fried for us. The first time it was good, but seemed a little soggy. We went back and asked them to fry it all a little longer and the owner said "oh; you want it extra crispy?". Yes! That did the trick!
