I called in my order for pick up. The lady was very friendly when she answered and she was very informative. As soon as I got there within five minutes, my order was ready. The cashier was super friendly and smiley. And just good vibes overall. The inside is very cute and very much gives the title as soon as I received my food. It was piping hot fresh. I took it home and it was still hot. The fish was amazing. Very crispy crunchy the batter tasted well seasoned, and it went perfectly with the hot sauce and the tartar sauce. The onion rings were off the charts amazing. I wish they gave me more. I would say the chicken tasted like a basic cafeteria chicken like it was frozen before and it wasn't homemade, but the fish definitely made up for it. The tartar sauce was delicious and the ranch! I would definitely give this place a 9.5 out of 10 just because the chicken wasn't that good but the fish was perfectly made and for the price I will definitely go back. read more

It was a Lent Friday and I needed my fish fix. I was in the area and happened upon this place via Yelp and happy that I did! Probably the best fish & chips I've had in Sacramento! I ordered the fish and prawns and it was cooked to order fresh and hot. The fish was flakey inside and the exterior was crisp. Prawns were big and succulent. The chips were on point and it even was topped with two onion rings... a ton of food! I would be remiss to not mention their amazing sauces. The cocktail sauce had a great tang with the right kick of horseradish! The tartar sauce was outstanding with a hint of garlic. The place was clean and the couple running it gave great service. When I used to live down here in the Sac area, I used to have fish and chips all the time, but now I live way up in the north end of the valley and we don't have many places that are dedicated fish and chips restaurants. Tugboat is a small chain in the Sac area and has some of the best fish and chips around. The prices have gone up some since I last ate here. I got a 3 piece fish and chips order for around $15. Gone are the days of the $8.00 3 piece order! The fish was hot and crispy like I remembered .Not really greasy at all. I like to come get fish and chips when I visit the area now. I was craving Tugboat fish in chips. I was not craving just any fish & chips... It had to be Tugboat! They have a unique batter with a unique tarter sauce that I have always ALWAYS crave! Today, I went into this cozy little spot and ordered two 3 piece fish lunches that come with fries and tarter sauce, and they top it with an onion ring or two. Since I had my sister and baby with me, I let her know I would be waiting in the car and would be back in to get our order. There is outdoor seating available. It's too tight to eat inside. When our order was finished, the nice woman brought it out to the car for me! She didn't have to, but I was so appreciative since our baby was being a little fussy. She added a special treat of 2 pieces of deep-fried banana drizzled with chocolate.... be sure to let those cool off! They were absolutely delicious. I drove 25 minutes to this location even though there are a lot of closer ones based off the reviews and I am so glad that I did. Brought my dad and daughter with me they also loved it. (If not sorry for the assumption) they got a nice outdoor setting that is well shaded for the heat and there is also indoor seating in the store itself ! From the out side it looks small but you really need to check out this location ! AMAZING ! The food is so crispy and tasty ! I am from the Bay Area and never really was drawn to fish and chip till I moved here and the first place I tried was here and WOWED. 10/10 and I would say I have petty high standards when it comes to food as a Bay Area person. The food is really good - it isn't too greasy, fried just right where it's crispy and isn't dry. The service is great - never been here before but the food is brought out to your car. Was given a bit of extras plus fried banana to try, definitely delicious on all of the items I have ordered: Fish & Chicken and Krabby cake. The fries were crispy as well! Our go to fish & chips place! They are closed on Mondays & Sundays. Very friendly family business. The cook aka the dad is always smiling and respectful. His smile always makes you feel happy and appreciated. Service is always on point and very attentive. There is indoor seating and also outdoor seating. The restaurant is always looking clean. We mostly order to go. They will bring your food to your car if your food is ready. Sometimes I will find a little tray of complimentary fried bananas with my order. It's very tasty! After reading the reviews I was a bit surprised when I pulled into the parking lot. The girls and I enjoyed all the seaworthy decor. The cashier while friendly, seemed overwhelmed with 5 orders, he even came to our table for more money saying he forgot to charge me for a fish and chips. I proceeded to ask about the missing calamari, he replied: You didn't order any. A couple minutes later the calamari arrives. He apologized and offered free fried bananas for the inconvenience. I would rate the food we received @ 2.5 stars overall . The fish is a bit greasy (leaving a film in our mouths) and the fries weren't hot or greasy. The cocktail sauce tastes like a mixture of ketchup and malt vinegar (no horseradish). The girls enjoyed the fried bananas. Overall: Not great- not terrible. read more

I wish I could give this place more stars for the Carmichael location!!! We ordered to go during New Year's Eve and my boyfriend forgot his wallet at home. The Owner was nice enough to give us our meal and told my boyfriend to pay him back whenever he could. Who does that anymore??? We were so grateful! I've been going to Tugboat Fish and Chips for years. Their food is always great, but their "chips"/fries left a lot to be desired. I'm happy to report that I got dinner there last night and they have switched it up to some amazing big steak fries which are deliciously crispy on the outside and delightfully soft in the inside and such an improvement over what they used to have.
