Beer Battered Cod Fish ~ $10 each
    Jean S.

Oh Bento is a fairly new, local casual restaurant that serves a variety of fish and chips, grilled seafood, and other like eats. It replaced the former Wave Fish and Chips just a little over a year ago. It is a fast casual eatery located off a busy street in the city of Carmichael. We actually came here looking for Wave Fish and Chips and discovered it had changed to Oh Bento. The owner was very welcoming and even honored a coupon we had for the prior establishment. We got 2 orders of the beer battered cod fish, one with Parmesan garlic fries and one with fresh skin on sweet potato fries. Each order was $10. For dips, we chose the tartar sauce and the roasted garlic aioli. We decided to dine outside as they had a few tables set up and a very warm heat lamp. On a cold December night, the heat lamp felt awesome. When the food came out, we tried the fried fish and really enjoyed them with the dipping sauces. The tartar sauce was great for the fried fish, but the garlic aioli was surprisingly amazing! I was really impressed and used it for the fries and some of the fish. We noticed they accidentally gave us regular French fries instead of parmesan garlic, but we were okay with it. The fries were good and the sweet potato fries were even better. The owner was super nice and made sure we really enjoyed our meal. He provided really good customer service. We definitely enjoyed dining out at this new local restaurant. I would definitely recommend Oh Bento if you are in the mood for fish and chips or other fried or grilled seafood. The prices are reasonable, portions are good (great for fries), and it's great to support small businesses during these times. They have takeout and provide sanitizer.

"Garlic fries" - just disgusting fried chunks of garlic

Wow... So not sure if they sold to someone else or just cratered in the quality of their food. I came here late night months and months ago. Never finished the review, but had been excited to come back. It was a four star review that started like this: "Rare for there to be places that just tick the boxes with a smile. The food, delicious, unpretentious. Got the beer battered shrimp and Buffalo wings. " I remember the proprietor was friendly and the food was delicious. Fast forward to today...Wth? The food was just gross. The worst fried food, thick coating, stale tasting chicken with a fetid green/black color, popcorn shrimp was hard and reheated...I could keep going on and on. It's just really hard to believe this is the same place. It's a travesty that this location gets to keep up the old photos. Just tragic. Update- chicken wasn't just stale, that was left out, I just ended up throwing up several times.

Ordered thru DoorDash for their fish & chips. First time I've ordered was better. Second time, it was alright. Kinda bland. I still prefer Tugboat's fish & chips. The size of the fish was pretty good tho. I think next time I would want to try their shrimp tacos and Parmesan garlic wings.

My first time here by the reviews it seemed like a pretty good place decided to drive down 15 min and give it a try on my lunch break. Placed an order online 30 mins before it opened which I didn't realize they open at 11:30. Pretty disappointed. I ordered the cod fish and fries and my fries aren't fresh they are old fries.

What a delightful find in the previous waves seafood storefront. The food was extremely fresh tasting and my fish and chips were cooked to perfection - not oily or heavy with batter so the cod flavor really came through. My daughter had the terryaki chickens wings with sweet potato fries and they were quite good with loads of umami flavor. We took our food to go because it was cold and rainy and sat in the car at Ancil Hoffman park watching the birds play in the rain puddles and rivulets. A nice break from the endless ho hum of work at home world.

Burnt onion rings and grocery store frozen fish! For $12.99! Bullshit!

Don't eat here! Rip off! $12.99 for this bullshit! Burnt onion rings and grocery store frozen fish!

Love this place. Its a great hole in the wall with amazing food. It doesn't look impressive and you should be prepared to wait. Its small family owned. Its worth it. The cauliflower is the best I've ever had. I never knew it could taste like that. The wings, spring rolls, fish and chips were all incredible. Our vegan daughter loves this place for their vegan quesadilla and the cauliflower. Just tell them you want vegan. We are hooked. Prices are very reasonable.

The cauliflower popcorn is so yummy!

Went in against better judgment. Fish and chips seemed like day old and microwaved. Took one bite and tossed it.

Do they have halibut fish & chips?

I have never seen Halibut on the menu it's Cod and Salmon. However the menu does change seasonally so perhaps in the future it may be.

So, I hate to be the food crank, but just thought I would ask if he serves any food that is not breaded (wheat allergy here)? That is besides the salad :)

I've had "The Ripple" (grilled tilapia on a salad with mixed beans, corn, and salsa) and I'm fairly certain the whole thing was wheat-free (though I'd ask about the dressing just in case). They also have "The Tidal" (grilled salmon with either… Read more

From the parking lot it doesn't look like much, even from the inside it doesn't look like much. But the food, the food was the star! That said, the pastrami sandwich was really good. I was hoping the fried zucchini sticks were made from scratch. Unfortunately, they weren't, but this was just a first time seeing and trying experience. I'm new to the area. The Pepsi was sparkling fresh. Plus+ Plus+ in my book! The restaurant was clean. The cashier was really super nice. I appreciated that. All in all the food was delicious. What might have made the visit better: Being acknowledge through a greeting when I walked up; I stood there waiting for about 3 minutes- ready to order. The owner was standing in front of the cash register looking at a piece of equipment (a headset), but I think this prevented the cashier from taking my order, until he finished what he was doing, which didn't have anything to do with her taking my order. I'm only mentioning it because I could tell the cashier wanted to take my order, but she wasn't able to. It's just a nice acknowledgement to patrons. I KNOW he didn't do this on purpose. He was just preoccupied. Also 1/4 of my pastrami sandwich bun had no pastrami. BUT having said that, they buttered and grilled the bread, and the flavor and crispiness was PERFECT! So it kind of made up for that. I'm thinking the empty 1/4 bun was probably just oversight. As you could tell the way they prepared the food, they do a really great job in flavor and also packaging. So I definitely think it was not intentional. I spent a total of approx $26 on my visit for a combo meal plus adding on an extra large Pepsi and zucchini stick. The zucchini stick at $5.99 is a bit pricey IMO for the amount in the bag. I think it's about 8 sticks the size of a mozzarella stick. The soda $3.45 was a good price for the sparkling fresh fizz! The combo meal price at $17 upgraded was decent. I'd like to do comparison experience for pastrami and zucchini. I'm new to the area. I appreciate they gave me 3 banana peppers with my pastrami. I'd like to come back and try their cheeseburgers next time with a large Pepsi. The Pepsi rocks! You should definitely try this place. I'd suggest sticking with fries in the combo though if you're a zucchini fan like me.

Totally different from the Seoul sandwich. We got it with sausage. Scrumptious. The eggs were fluffy and the sandwich was made to perfection. To be honest. It's casual, but still has way more vibe than you'd expect from a spot tucked inside the mall. The owner was super friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcomed right away. Food came out fast, portions were huge, and the flavors were even bigger. We tried the gator bites, smokehouse burger, and pastrami sandwich. The smokehouse burger was insane. Juicy, loaded, messy in the best way, and made with quality ingredients you can actually taste. If you're craving a real-deal, fatty, satisfying burger, this is the spot. The pastrami sandwich was stacked, flavorful, and super filling. The garlic fries were AMAZING!! Best ones we've had, hands down. Super garlicky and the fries were crispy without getting soggy. The gator bites were fun to try too, especially because their menu is so different from your average burger place. They also have exotic meats like elk, bison, venison, and wild boar, which makes it feel like a spot you can keep going back to and still try something new.
