My mom and I stopped in to Wave Fish & Chips today and were pleasantly surprised - prices were good and there were plenty of interesting menu options. They offered traditional English style fish and chips as well as panko breaded, and also crab stuffed mushrooms and jalapenos, which is something you don't usually see at your typical fish and chips joint. I got the #3 fillet burger and my mom got the #1 fish and chips, and boy were these some huge portions. The burger had TWO fillets on it and the fish and chips look like they could feed 2 people. The roast beef was tender, the ham was perfect and not dry at all, the Mac'n'Cheese had delicious little crumbly bits on top, mashed potatoes were seasoned perfectly and the cheesy broccoli was the best. I've tried to make cheesy broccoli many times and failed so I was extremely pleased to have such fresh crisp broccoli and creamy cheese sauce. My favorite is the panko crusted but the beer battered fish is terrific too! The "rockstar" appetizer is amazing! Four huge prawns with a big scoop of crab salad, all breaded & lightly deep fried. Not too greasy. You've also gotta try the clam chowder. It's creamy, chunky, flavorful with loads of clams. My wife and I stopped into Wave Fish & Chips about two weeks ago for dinner. I saw the great reviews on Yelp and every time we drove by it was crowded. My wife ordered the traditional Fish & Chips and I ordered the Crab Stuffed Shrimp with a side of fries. The Fish & Chips my wife ordered, which I tried as well, was bot very good. The chef used way too much batter and the fish was not seasoned. The french fries were also over cooked and had no flavor. The cashier was very nice and even offered us samples of their chips and fried mushrooms which were amazing! As other reviewers have noted we were treated to a free plate each containing a "fire exit" (deep-fried crab-stuffed Jalapeño), a "yummy yummy" (deep-fried crab-stuffed mushroom) and a "rock star" (deep-fried crab-stuffed shrimp). Great new place to dine in Carmichael. This spot is a little gem, located on Fair Oaks, in a tiny strip mall. The owner is great, as is the delicious food. My favorite is the grilled Salmon which is served with a salad and fried apple slices. I've also tried the fish and chips which are hot and crispy and you are served quite a large portion. The tilapia was yummy...I didn't want the pico de gallo so the owner offered me pesto sauce which I loved. The owner is very accommodating and serves complimentary appetizer samples, including the crab stuffed mushrooms and jalapeños, and housemade potato chips. We had beer battered fish and half zucchini fries and half sweet potato fries. I loved the orange sauce. We also had their shrimp tacos which were stuffed full and the shrimp were big and tasty. That space has been a multitude of eateries that haven't seemed to last very long. However I do hope that this one stays for a long time. I have passed by Wave Fish & Chips and its catchy signs on Fair Oaks many times and finally decided to try it out. The place is in a hole in the wall strip mall, but don't let that put you off. First, the service is awesome. Very friendly. We were even given some samples of their appetizers while we waited for our order. The fish is fresh. The oil is not old and funky tasting. The portions are large. In addition, they provide some housemate sauces in addition to tar tar sauce. I have had both the beer battered fish and the breaded fish and chips plate. Each plate can easily be shared with another person... probably order some appetizers if you go this route.
