BACKGROUND: We wanted bookshelves installed above a built-in cabinet unit in our living room. I sent Jitendra a sketch and described what we wanted. From my chicken-scratch sketch, he created a design and mock-up, then measured our space. While measuring, he flagged all existing flaws in the space (uneven/slanted walls) so that we were aware of all inconsistencies upfront. He has amazing attention to detail! RESULTS: We were simply blown away by how well he was able to match the custom shelves to our existing unit; all of the wood looks like it was manufactured at the same time! It truly looks like it was all constructed as one piece from the very beginning, which is exactly what we wanted. In addition, we really appreciate that he took initiative to incorporate crown molding/extra detail on the top of the shelving unit. This is something that I would never have thought to do. WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE HIM: There's good reason why the word "artisan" is in the name of this business. After multiple (failed in many ways) attempts by them, Jesus came in and finished off the cabinet. We were pleased, so we commissioned him to build a display stand for the top of that cabinet. Again, gorgeous. Finally, I needed a stand for a Javanese mask my brother sent me from Thailand. Jesus had some leftover Ipe from another job and from that he constructed the perfect stand for it, a dark, lustrous wood that matched the color of the mask. The cost was very reasonable, though not cheap. He's easy to work w/ and his work is excellent.

We were doing a full remodel and I really wanted the look of a sleek floating vanity cabinet - after looking everywhere, I knew I had to have one custom made. Of course I was worried about the price. Well, I got lucky. After almost going with home depot, I found Jesus and the price was actually comparable. All I had for a plan was a drawing of a floating rectangle with some drawers, and some pictures I had from the internet. I met Jesus at his shop - which, well, isn't in the best neighborhood - but whatever - it's a wood-shop. (made me feel all edgy driving into Richmond :) The point is that Jesus was very welcoming and easy to work with. Gave me full control of whatever wood choice I wanted. Initially I was thinking of some other type of wood, I forget the name, but then I saw a slab of walnut laying against one of the walls and fell in love with it. I asked if I could change my mind and go with the walnut, and he was just like, "sure, whatever you want." I then also asked if he could build some floating shelves and a tub curtain out of the same wood, and again, his response was just as easy going and positive. He actually ended making the tub curtain out of the exact piece of walnut that I initially fell in love with - which has an awesome pattern. Anyway, he's a great guy. does great work. product looks great and is very solid. He even came to my house after the vanity was installed to drill the holes and put in the handles himself.
